We come here often, this time it was for lunch, but we also come regularly for breakfast. Emma is very friendly, always greets us with a smile and is very attentive. We had 3 courses, and all the dishes we had today were very nice.

Kyle is always so accommodating and friendly! He is always polite and welcomes you with a smile! Highly recommended!! Thank you!! ☺️

Can earn loyalty points with Beefeater card. Very noisy when busy. Reduced menu and increased prices with less on individual dishes.Return visit. Pleasant and helpful staff. Good food . Steak had to be recooked which staff sorted out.Return visit in April 2024. Had mixed grill. Meat cooked as requested. Sausage texture and quality could be improved. Staff didn't ask if food was alright during meal as they usually do. Chairs weren't cleaned to usual standard.

Arrived around 3pm on a Wednesday - was very quiet. Served at bar quickly, and the lady serving was very friendly and courteous. Sat outside and food arrived very quickly. Waitress checked in with us a couple of times to ensure all was well. No issues and food was all good.

Went for Mother's Day and unfortunately this review does not reflect the countless other times we've dined at the Highwayman as these have always been positive - we particularly enjoy the breakfasts. We booked for 6pm and ordered drinks and food. The starters arrived fairly quickly and were to a decent quality, however it became clear that the restaurant was just too busy whilst we were waiting for mains, and the serving staff were in a flurry trying to manage their tables. I'm not sure whether there weren't enough staff on that day, or if the kitchen was just at full capacity due to the amount of customers, but the wait time was a lot longer than we'd have liked. I believe the wait time between starters being taken away and mains being brought out was about an hour, as we didn't eat our mains until at least 7.30pm. The food was also not overly hot when it arrived, which made it a little uncomfortable to eat. We'd already been waiting long enough for the food to arrive that I didn't ask for it to be re-warmed as it would further delay other customers receiving their meals. Other customers were also expressing vocal frustrations to the servers which was causing stress. But the flavours of the food were good regardless, which is a positive. Overall I think the staff who were working that day did a decent job trying to control the flow of people, however I think a few more staff should have been working that day or a few less bookings should have been accepted to make it more manageable. I look forward to returning to the Highwayman for their breakfasts though.

Went to this beefeater for a set mothers day meal with my wife and sister in law we all had the sunday roast with deserts we had half roast chicken which was very good value and very tasty and well presented by our waitress autumn we finished off with apple pie and custard which we all enjoyed

I’m struggling to understand why this place has decent reviews. Terrible food, worse service. Absolutely out of control chaos on Mother’s Day. Terrible stock control - by 5pm they had run out of all roasts and half the mains and kids options. Long wait to be greeted or seated, waited again to take the order and the waits between each course got longer and longer. Kids wild with boredom. Dishes promised then told 30 minutes later they were not available. Waitress said “the desserts are on a tray I’ll go and get the kids ice creams myself” then was seen serving two other tables. Items missing from kids meals (no veg served). Halloumi salad was the best veggie option on the menu and was 90% unwashed whole lettuce leaves, a little chopped pepper and cucumber, and one slice of dried out rubbery halloumi which was curled at the edges from sitting for too long. Waiting staff blaming kitchen for delays and saying the kitchen was chaos. Angry diners. Check your receipt! Our bill was wrong three times, the guy bringing the bill (manager?) was confused. Would have asked for money off if we weren’t trying to get out of there as quickly as possible. Never again. Do not recommend!

It’s an older premier inn which could do with an update but the food is decent and the staff are very friendly and helpful

A very modern mix between causal a fancy. Something where clothing isn't to worry about. (Not that I'm like that) ;) Hospitality: 5/5 servic a waiting times was of very good standard. Floor manager loves to socialise with guest. Food 5/5 All around satifaction from my relatives. Garlic flatbread was well balanced in dryness, an oil from the garlic. Burger was another one of great quality. 👍 The Cheescake was good. Would be better if it was a cheesecake of the day kind of thing. Layout 4.5/5 The main dining room had a cosy inviting decor, while presenting details of fine taste. (Already described the rest)

Best meal I've had in ages. The ribs were amazing. Service could be better. Getting our meal was fine, but we had to attract attention to get a pudding. Staff very polite and friendly though. Have now been again, food equally good and overall atmosphere was really pleasant and relaxed. The staff were very friendly.

Situated in a lovely countryside location. We visited today (family of 5 adults) for my daughters birthday. We had 3 courses, and the food was delicious. Can definitely recommend the calamari starter. It just melted in your mouth. As with all beefeaters, it's table service. And our server James was polite and did his job very well. Will definitely return.

Where do I start! My partner and I went to Beefeater after finishing work and driving over an hour as we were having a weekend away. This beefeater was next to our premier inn we were staying in. We decided to go for our evening meal here. Upon arrival we were greeted with “do you have a booking?” No good evening or any other comment. We said “no” as we’d just arrived, they had a check around and we were seated quickly. Both of us looked at the menu and a lovely waitress took our drinks order. We both looked over the food menu and our order was taken. After a while our food arrived, mine was lasagna and my partner ordered ribs and chicken, the chicken was ok, we did question if it was actually chicken (between ourselves). Once our plates were taken, we asked for the bill which the waitress brought over and about a discount code or something, she said yes and brought over a card to activate. My partner looked at the bill and it said £15.66 I said is it right, he assured me that it was. It then took between 20-30 minutes for someone to come over to actually take payment, which we were paying in cash. Once someone finally came over, they took our bill. A few minutes later they came back and said this isn’t your bill, which we questioned as there had been discounts applied. The second waiter came over and blamed our previous waitress for giving us the wrong bill and were asked to pay the full amount, which we paid and left. As we left we saw there was a deal on 2 4 1 cocktails on the baileys ones, we discussed coming back for these the day after as neither of us would have to drive as we were staying next door. Upon arrival we then asked the same thing “have you booked?” We replied, we’ve just come for drinks. We found a seat around the bar area which my partner went to the bar to order the drinks. After sitting on my own while he was there for 10 minutes if not longer, wondering where he’d got to. He arrived with 2 out of the 4 cocktails. For him to say they have no idea what they are doing and have no idea about their offers as it said all 4 were on the offer which was £20 for 4 cocktails. We then had to guess which one was which as they were all different and they had no idea which was which when placing them down. Very frustrating for a big brand and we gave them the benefit of the doubt after the first attempt. Would not recommend returning for an evening meal.

Sits next door to the premier inn west in Derbyshire. The food package is well worth having, £25.99 for a 2 course evening meal which includes a drink, plus as much as you can eat breakfast. The breakfast is very very good!! There is a choice of a Continental breakfast and a full English breakfast is available. Hubbie said it’s the best breakfast he’s had in a long time. Don’t expect massive portions, but very tasty. The place itself is a tad tired, but the staff are friendly and gave us a very warm welcome. This is a great place to stay if you visiting Chatsworth House, it’s literally 10 minutes away (if that).

We often meet halfway with other family from time to time to have a proper catch up and have a good time. The staff are always friendly and efficient when it comes to service and the food is just as good. Prices a little on the higher side but certainly doesn’t change my view of this place in any way. Will always come back here :)

We went to The Highway Man on our way back home from Chatsworth Christmas Market. We were greeted and served by the manager James who was lovely and very attentive. There was a little bit of a wait but the team were clearly very understaffed. James was very apologetic and when the food arrived it was all delicious. We will definitely return.

Lovely night out,excellent food-one burger a little over done but swiftly offered free main and dessert for that guest so very impressed. Wait for drinks and food seemed long but staff working very hard and clearly need more help. Thank you to all who made visit enjoyable.

Arrived to be greated by lovely staff (Colin)on the front of house however throughout our visit the time delays between drinks and food became long but with a quick talk to the server at the bar drinks came soon after, when my meal came I enjoyed the lovely fries however when eating my beef burger it was burnt and inedible, everyone else’s meals where perfect, when I informed the waiter Kim she gladly offered it be taken off the bill and compensated with a free pudding.

Dreadful evening. 6 adults eating, 4 meals arrived after an hour, 3 returned with luke warm chicken and pork. Walked out after 2hrs. Nice pint of Doom Bar.

Were to start it took a good 30 mins for the starter to come out bearing in mind the place was dead. Main meal another 45 mins to come out then when it did it was awful my steak and roast potatoes were cold and the other meals were barely warm sent mine back and it was microwave and the potatoes were still cold. The mixed grill was ok but peas rock hard.We were all hungry and so we're the children so we ate what was a inedible meal which cost nearly a £100. Then to top it all the girl came and started clearing away glasses that were half full !!!! Sorry will not be visiting this place in a hurry.

Jayden served us and what an absolute joy she is! It's rare nowadays to get service with pizazz. Hope management recognise her sunny disposition. Food was excellent as were the cocktails and Irish coffees made by Dave. All in all a really lovely evening.

The food here was awful not only did it take forever it was inedible sent one meal back and was still awful when they brought it back. Would have walked out and not bothered but the kids were hungry we will not be returning. We have had loads of family meals here and cannot believe how it as gone down hill. On a good point the staff who served us were ok apart from the waitress who decided to try and take our drinks when they were half full!!!!

We have been going to Highwayman for years on a regular basis. Our last meal there in October was poor but we decided to give it another go as we have always enjoyed it in the past. Last night the meal was abysmal. We arrived on time for our 8pm booking and the table wasn’t ready - no problem we went to the bar and got a drink (best service of the night) then they came and told us the table was ready. We ordered food, all 4 of us ordered the fillet steak off of the Xmas menu. We ordered more drinks and sat waiting for them for half an hour - some with empty glasses. Over an hour after the food was ordered they delivered sirloin instead of fillet for all of us … the chef had supposedly misread the order, the steak was cold and full of fat and gristle. Will we be returning - not a chance! Cannot believe how somewhere we have gone to on a regular basis for years can suddenly go downhill so much. Avoid!

We visit the restaurant every few months or so as we get vouchers through their loyalty scheme. We’ve always had a lovely lunch with excellent service. Food is tasty and good value.

When for the first time today with my family could not fault a thing will definitely be back

I have been staying in Chesterfield for business for several months and regularly stay at the premier inn and eat in the Highway man, I really have to compliment the levels of service which I receive from the team particularly Kym who delivers outstanding customer service, shows a genuine interest in the restaurants customers and makes everyone feel really welcome.

We have been to the highwayman, for birthdays for years! We will not be returning! Now before I start I am not a usual review writer. We do eat in weatherspoons regularly. So not always out for a “fine dining” meal. I have been a chef for the best part of 16 years. The food we were served Sunday evening was less than disappointing.if I found one of my kitchen staff serving food like that they would need a shift on pot wash! There were however some lovely front of house staff. Although many of them had no idea the difference between a latte and cappuccino I feel this is lack of training. We had 10 guests, who 6 of had the same meals. The ribs are described as glazed not dry rub. The “smothered” chicken isn’t smothered. We did also have 1 chicken breast between 3 plates, the salad was a leaf of an iceberg lettuce. The chips are described as “triple cooked” I felt they may of been thrown in a fryer a few times. No potato to be left inside. The drinks took ages to arrive. The food order was messed up. The food then took over an hour to be served to us, now we would never complain about this usually however the pub was not busy. We did like I say have only 4 different meals between 10 of us. We did have a child’s pizza that had too much microwave and was unbearable. Unfortunately we were absolutely starving. We chose to have ours because these have always been amazing! Absolutely just a poor poor effort guys! I do hope it was a bad shift because this pub is excellent and surrounded in excellent country. However I feel it needs a stricter management team in for a few weeks.

The breakfasts are always perfect here, lovely place to eat and staff always friendly. We usually get Kim and nothings ever too much trouble and it’s always with a chat and a smile.

Excellent dining experience, even though we chose a busy time to eat Dylan still found us a table and kept checking on us while we waited for food. Ten out of ten for customer services. Meals were delicious and good value. Plenty of parking with lots of disabled spaces. Restaurant spotless. Really enjoyed our visit today.

We called a couple of weeks ago and had a meal we had a voucher for my birthday. I had a steak and my husband had chicken. The meal I must admit was disappointing in the sense of other than steak a few chips 1 mushroom and I think a tomatoe there was no veg you could order it extra my husband had smothered chicken 1 tiny bit of bacon hardly any sauce and some very crispy cheese chips and coleslaw again no veg. I think for what we paid if we had not had the voucher it would have been expensive for what we actually had on our plates.

I am very upset with my visit at this establishment. There were maybe 5+ staff on shift. There was only one person who did anything his name was Tom he made the experience bearable he was a very good waiter.First of all we ordered a steak, a beef burger and a chicken burger… The steak we ordered medium rare and it did not come out this way. The beef burger came out as asked but 10 minutes after the rest of the food. The chicken burger was nice, however it came with the wrong chips. (Which did get replaced) which is fine. I waited 10 minutes for a glass of water! All because the rest of the staff on the shift did nothing! I work in a restaurant and my customer’s experience at my place is 100% better. Service was very slow as tom did everything. Thank you Tom for a good experience. I appreciate it. Our bill came to £62.15 and non of us were satisfied. Waste of money! Not happy ☹️

The recent flooding all around Chesterfield / Bakewell area left us stranded on Friday night, together with quite a few other motorists ( we were the lucky ones, having a caravan meant we got a good night's sleep in the car park ). The staff at the Beefeater were really welcoming and helpful, even though they themselves were struggling to get in and out of work and felt like they were running a refugee centre. I'd just like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone there , we really appreciated your kindness.

Staying next door booked a meal deal. Told on arrival it was busy there may be a delay. Great management telling you the truth. The staff never stopped all of them worked so hard. The service was excellent and we never noticed a delay. Dillon was our waiter what a nice young man. Food was excellent and hot. Would recommend this place, excellent food but even better service.

The place and the staff just look scruffy. The building is in need of a deep clean and a lock of paint. Screens were smeared, tables sticky. The service was glacially slow. The menu has become extremely limited

Kim went absolutely above and beyond in helping us manage allergies. Our allergy is rare (so not listed in allergens) but severe but she triple checked everything and spotted something we overlooked! Thanks Kim. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed and the food was well cooked and tasty. The biggest thing for us was being able to relax and feel safe.

Poor atmosphere and service. No welcome or smile from any staff. Felt like our presence here was more of a hinderance than anything else. Place needs some refurbishment too.

Been here many times, everytime has always been a pleasure, and is in my opinion the best Beefeater. When compared to the one in Crewe, this one is like a totally different chain. The management team should be proud. However, they do have a new menu, and it is fair to say that Shrinkflation has set in, with a reduced offering and higher prices. Whilst understandable, it is still disappointing. I don't think I will visit now unless I get these 30/40% off vouchers every so often.

The 2 stars for service does not relate to the waitress (who deserves more than 5 stars) but the slovenly manager who used his laptop and admin to hide in. He sat surrounded by his empty dinner plates, and consuming coke - rude, made sure you knew you were an inconvenience, avoided eye contact with customers. That poor waitress was let down. No music other than what the chef was playing. Place smelt musty, horrible atmosphere. Really regret paying for the meal deal. Have not had food yet.

Poor. Portion size was small which was not reflected in the price. Service was slow and had to ask for dessert menu twice. Peas with steak pie looked as if they had been left out from lunch and reheated as they looked dry and discoloured....

What has happened. Been going here for many years. Service was a bit slow to start but got our drinks and starters, ordered three starters the same, 1 was OK the other 2 had to go back as they forgotten one of the ingredients. Then our main meal turned up and they hadn’t cleared the table from the starters. Said to waitress (may have been supervisor) you not cleared the table she was very abrupt and said going to do it now. The main meals, the two Mixed grills were ok but the fish on the Fish (Haddock) and chips was heavily battered and flesh was yellow and tasteless, the Ribs on the Beefeater Combo were dry. When meals were delivered, I asked for vinegar Five minutes we had to wait. At the end of meal the plates were just left on table and we decided to leave. Then took 10/15 minutes to get the bill… £130.00 Wasted. Bring back the old team.

Ok ,it's a chain pub, nothing special just like all the others, there's many independent restaurants in the local area that offer so much more.

We had a discount vouch for the Beefeater and used it at the Highwayman near Chatsworth. We booked the table for 7:30 pm but arrived early at 6:15 pm. Although the restaurant did not look busy the man at the seating desk said they were busy and that we would have to wait until 7:30 p.m. although he did say if a table became available he would let us know. We whiled away the hour with a drink and then went to be seated. The man we had spoken to earlier ignored us and other waiters and waitresses said they wouldn't not be a minute but never came back it took us 15 to 20 minutes to get seated. I ordered red wine and received white. I ordered steak and ale pie to be told later that it was now off the menu so I ordered ribeye steak. One of our party of five's meal was burnt and had to be replaced. Toby our waiter was magnificent but on leaving the restaurant the man we had spoken to at the beginning asked if all was well. I said no the service that he had given us at the beginning was atrocious and that the meal while spoilt by receiving incorrect wine with no steak and ale pie and burnt food. He said he would refund the value of my ribeye steak but then he said I was rude and he got annoyed saying that he would refund the cost of all meals. He was not a nice man and why he got so nasty I do not know. He has no idea how to deal with customers and is not a good ambassador for Beefeater. Fortunately the other Beefeater restaurant so I have been to have been excellent so hopefully this is just a one-off bad experience.

Went with a money off offer & for the price we paid it was OK. Steak was tasty & well cooked, very small side portions e.g. chips jacket potatoes, but on the whole, it was a nice meal. Would I be saying the same if I'd paid full price, absolutely not.

Really awful experience here. Melted cheese on starter was rock hard. Must have been melted then left under a heat lamp for ages. Ordered 2 cheeseburgers, fish and chips and a halloumi burger. Cheeseburgers had no ketchup, as ordered, and got served a vegan burger...
