Unable to review food.Booked for eight people for Sunday 14 April.on Saturday 6 April.Rung to confirm booking today..to find out there was no record of the booking. The person I talked to offered no apologies and then spoke about conditions that were never mentioned when I originally booked .The person was downright discourteous and obviously limits her use of please and thank you.If the food here is on a level with the service provided then I would say we have had a narrow escape. An absolute disgrace .

We had an amazing dinner at the Crispin Inn for our 12th wedding anniversary , nice quaint historic building and lovely atmosphere, staff were incredibly friendly and attentive but above all the burger I had was not only massive but the quality was amazing- the best burger I’ve ever eaten ( and I’ve eaten a few 😂) the quality of the meat was absolutely stunning, my wife had the chicken burger which was the same! thank you so much!! Can’t wait to come again!

Four of us ate ate at the Crispin one Saturday night in February. We had pre-booked a table, which was probably the best idea as there were quite few people eating. The staff were friendly and welcoming, providing a good service. Dogs on leads are permitted in most areas, except the dining room. There's a car park in front of the pub plus free on street parking. The bathrooms are clean and tidy. We each had 2 courses, a bottle of wine and beers - £56 per couple. The food was served on hot plates, very tasty and sizeable portions. Two of us had smaller sizes of fish and chips, together with a cod loin. The liver and bacon apparently was "excellent"! I'm not quite sure how we made room for the crumble, but we managed, and it was splendid. Make sure you are hungry before visiting! The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed with a good number of local people visiting - always a good sign. A good place to visit.

Unfortunately a very poor experience. Went for a Sunday lunch with family.Ordered Sunday roasts. The food arrived barely warm , side dishes of veg cold.Burnt roast potatoes hiding in the mash under the slices of beef. Awful.....was offered replacements but declined.Needless to say there was no charge. Very disappointed after looking forward to settling down for Sunday lunch in a Country pub.

We came here for a little bit food after a walk in the beautiful village of Ashover, when we arrived we just wanted something to eat before we drove home however we did not realize what a treat we were in for. I ordered a burger and my partner ordered a lamb and beef dinner, what arrived was a monster burger and a Sunday dinner with the most tender meat I have ever tried. The patty on my burger was very good quality, the cheese seemed to be made specifically to compliment it and the home made chips was to die for, even though I was so overly full half way through I managed to muster the power to keep eating because my tongue wouldn't allow me to stop. My partner was the same and she made me eat some of the beef and lamb, wiping the sweat away from my brow I managed a mouthful of both meats to which my taste buds acted like they had just scored the winning goal against Germany in the 90th minute in the world cup final. After we had finished I paid the bill which seemed cheap for the food we had just consumed and we have recommended this to every person we have seen since.

Nothing special. We were a large family group, we were seated in a back room I assume due to the size of the group (12 people). Felt like we were an inconvenience. We asked if they could turn the speaker on so we could hear the music that was playing in the main pub to be met with a blank look and “I don’t know”, a few minutes later asked the other bar staff girl to be met with similar blank look and “I don’t know” response (no offer to actually try or find out!) . Staff weren’t unfriendly, but they weren’t friendly either. I think the word to describe them would be indifferent. Food expensive for what it is. Me and my sister in law had fish and chips. Huge fish that tasted of absolutely nothing. Light out in the ladies loo so sat in pitch black to use the loo. Generally gave a bit of a “Royston Vasey” vibe. If you know you know!

Went today for lunch and was sadly very disappointed. We’ve not been back here for 10yrs and had great memories of excellent food which we went back for again. Sadly this was not the case, my wife’s chicken burger was dry and heated pre cooked strips. My Sunday lunch had what tasted like smash type potatoes, with awful dry vegetables and extremely chewy at best meat. Not at all worth the £50 we paid, our best meal was my daughter’s chicken nuggets and fries. Such a shame.

We visited yesterday for a Sunday Lunch, the food was amazing! The pub & atmosphere was beautiful! However, the service wasn’t great at all. We didn’t have one specific waitress, we had about 4 (& they obviously weren’t communicating with one another). We had one seat us, another to take the drinks orders, we weren’t offered any menus until another waitress came to take our order & realised we hadn’t been given any menus, which was about half an hour into being there. We then waited another 20 minutes to order. Took about half an hour until our food came, then we were missing a meal. By the time we had all eaten, the missing meal then came out. We were waiting for our plates to be cleared and hopefully get a dessert menu but we’re left sat with empty plates on our table for another 15/20minutes so we decided to get up & go to the bar for our bill instead. Within our order, we had a meat free roast dinner but was still charged the full amount of a roast. Overall, we paid £140. But you could’ve got more if your waitresses were more on their game, communicated with one another & we’re more organised. The food was beautiful but the service really let your pub down.

The food was very good. The girl who served was good, but the person who appeared to be the owner attempted to rip us off by overcharging for the mixed grill. It was a shame that this happened because otherwise it was an enjoyable meal. Re the owner comment. This just makes it worse. Acknowledging that you have made a mistake on the menu and then still trying to charge for an item that is not on the menu without telling us, trying to sneak it through on the bill (ie an extra £10 in total) is not appropriate. The menu stated the large Mixed Grill was £29.95. This is what we ordered. There was no indication anywhere that there were three sizes plus the mixed grill challenge. If you make a mistake, you acknowledge it and take the loss. That is good business practice and encourages people to return.

Came for a meal last night and booked a table for 6:30pm. Was 1 of 2 groups in for food when we we were seated and was told that there was no chicken or gammon. The vegetables served with one of the meals weren't cooked, one meal was missing onion rings (although didn't know if we were mistaken because I didn't have a menu to hand until after). Also a small bone found in the Lamb Shank. We waited a long time for someone to come and clear the table and ask for desserts, it didn't happen. A customer on the other table asked to order desserts and was told the "kitchen closed at about 7:15pm". Neither us or the other table could have any desserts and we have never been to anywhere where they take a booking and then don't give you time or warning to order desserts. Went down to the Old Poets after for desserts and they couldn't be more attentive and polite. Wish we'd have gone there for the full meal.

I used this pub in the 60/70s I called in last night, a bit apprehensively as the last time I called I walked away. Probably about 20 years ago. It had gone a bit to far up market, that's why I've not been anywhere near it for another 20 years. Driving past last night I pulled up, seen the dog bowls and walked in with my springer spaniel. Well! it's back on my list. Lovely friendly pub with good beer and good food again. Hope it doesn't get someone else in with bright ideas before I turn up my toes. Geoff Rawson

Visited on a recommendation but quite disappointed with our meal. I ordered the pork belly and asked for the sauce served separately as I don't really like mustard. The waitress confirmed this was fine but when it was served it had sauce all over. The waitress said "that's how it's served" and gave me a jug with even more sauce in! I picked around the sauce as much as I could but found the pork very chewy anyway, not how I usually expect pork belly to be. The rest of the food was ok but nothing to write home about.

Ripped off! Went for a Monday pint and ordered a cask ale and a lager for my wife who paid. I asked what the cost of my pint was and was told £4.40. Funny that as the sign on the entrance doors clearly states all cask ales £2.80 on Monday's and Tuesday's. When I asked the girl serving she pleaded ignorance. I showed her the sign and told her that we have a contract and they owed me £1.60. Again she went to seek advice. As we sat outside we heard a noise by the front door and she told me that it was from 5pm and she wrote that on the sign, there and then. We did not get a refund and a couple of ladies told us that they didn't pay £2.80. Customers are getting ripped off. There are 2 other pubs nearby. Go there so you don't get scammed. Never going here again and I would love to hear the response from the owner who clearly has no moral standards.

Avoid the restaurant. Take recent reviews as a sign of how things have declined. What used to be a good pub has completely gone out of control. Awful food, confrontational defensive and aggressive owners (felt like an episode of kitchen nightmares). Felt embarrassed for them but it explains the empty pub on a weekend... Never before have I been shouted at by an owner for not eating a meal and complaining. Save your money and go anywhere else. There's too many restuarants struggling to waste your money on this mess of a business. The wait staff were lovely is the saving grace. Just hope they can find better working conditions. Update following owners reply: Thanks for highlighting exactly what the review outlined. Embarrassing to be throwing around lies but it's (unfortunately) your business. Get over it, the food you served was over priced and poor quality. The only abuse that took place was to your poor ingredients.. they deserve better. Those considering visiting please see fuller review above, as well as an example of the owners ridiculous confrontational behaviour in the various Google reviews on here. They clearly have a reputation.

Love visiting the Crispin when we’re up in Ashover. Always looks lovey ant Christmas too. As per, we were given a very warm welcome. We had a fab Sunday lunch, which I can be pretty wary of eating Sunday lunches out and about (usually meatbcan be grey and overcooked and veg raw etc)but this was delicious. Meat was perfectly cooked and the meal plentiful. We had a little one with us too, who was catered for brilliantly. Looking forward to my next visit. Only thing I was upset about was the fact the brewery won’t allow customers to add a tip when paying by card. Loads of places can do this, so not sure what the excuse could be. The brewery need to sort that out, as no one really carry’s cash any more. I wanted to leave a tip as the staff were grand and we had a lovely evening.

Hopefully our experience was not typical, but it was poor and something the owner would no doubt wish to know about. It was very busy and so we expected to have to wait a fair while and were happy to do so. There were several issues which detracted from our experience. One member of our party was not served a meal. She advised the waitress and waited for it to arrive. After some time she enquired about when it would arrive and was told it hadn’t been ordered in the kitchen, but she could order one if she wanted (she hadn't come back to the table to tell her this information) . Given the timing and everyone else already being part way through their meals, she decided to do without and food was shared out within the group to try to compensate. Added to this: at the time when we expected our order to be about ready, we were told several meals were unavailable – thus requiring reordering and further wait. Better organisation/communication would have prevented this. When the meals came, one order was short of some of the described ingredients (e.g. chips), which weren’t subsequently supplied despite us informing the staff. When paying, my friend described the missing parts of the meal and was simply ignored – the waitress simply gave her the bill without responding to her feedback. My friend was not the pushy sort and simply paid, but it left a bad impression. That seemed to fit in with our general experience – the staff simply didn’t appear to be connected/interested and the impression created within our group of 12 was that we were an irritation, which had a significantly negative impact on what of should have been a really enjoyable get together over the Christmas period. Hopefully the situation can be improved and we may try again in another 6 months or so – as the location and environment were great (we often come walking in Ashover) and the food was good. The primary negative was the poor communication from staff, and their apparent lack of interest in us.

Lovely pub. Only stopped for a drink whilst out walking. Barmaids were pleasant and helpful. Beer was delicious.

My partner and I were amazed by the quality of the steak, ale and stilton pie which we both enjoyed yesterday lunch time at The Crispin. The circular pies were clearly 'home made', of a good size.and full of tasty tender beef. We will be back !!!!

Called for lunch today just had sandwiches and chips everything else very expensive for the average quality. Bread didn't seem fresh and meal distinctly average. The already used sachet of tartar sauce with the condiments didn't improve the experience! Won't be returning anytime soon.
