Food was ok, but the gravy was burnt. No children's menu which was tricky. We were told it's the same as the adults but 1/2 price... eventually offered scampi and fries... Unremarkable

As a resident that has lived there all my life for 50 years, I can see the Plough from my garden! it has really gone down hill since the new owners and I will no longer bother wasting my money there. The price of their drinks is more than anywhere I have found in St Albans, a glass of red wine for example is £15, and no cheaper if you buy a bottle !! The beers are equally expensive and the young bar staff do not have a clue and unwelcoming. The management are missing a trick here, the Plough I remember was packed with people came from all over, nowadays even with their nice beer garden, its just not worth the money with very average overpriced food! In two words, Expensive and disappointing. St Albans is the most pub-populated town in Britain, I have so many choices better than the Plough, my advise is go to the 3 horseshoes across the field, far better value and service.

After its closure in August 2024, I'm pleased to see this great pub open again. (Re-opened on Good Friday 2025, according to the local press.) No food yet, but looking forward to eating here once the kitchen re-opens. No Guinness; the draught lager is Estrella.

Sadly this is not a good review, we have been residents of Henfield for many years and have enjoyed, up to lockdown, a great pub for atmosphere, food and a great evening out. Since this was taken over after lockdown the pub has been a disaster. We celebrated my sisters birthday yesterday with a family lunch of 17 people. The breaded mushroom starter was like eating bullets. It was so overcooked and hard, you had to pick it up with your fingers as you couldn’t pick it up with your fork. The roast dinner was appalling, the meat was so tough you could t eat it, the roast potatoes tasted old and were soft as if they had been microwaved, the food was only just warm and the gravy was like water and tasted awful. After we finished, well couldn’t eat anymore, some plates were removed but most plates with uneaten food were left in front of us for the whole time we were there and not removed, It’s sad to write a bad review but without people telling establishments that there service and food was way below standard they will not know where they need to improve. Paying Ā£20 a roast dinner for what was served up is way above price. Please improve your standards
