What a find!! Can not recommend this Tea Room highly enough. We’ve had lots of cream teas over the years, but Bramdowns is the best ever. The homemade scones were amazing. The service was first class and so friendly. The decor and the crockery are lovely, also with the music in the background you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Thoroughly enjoyed it, so much more than just a cream tea. Long May you continue, Ladies. Next time we’re passing by Porlock, Bramdowns, is a definite stop off.

Lunch today at Hilltop was an outstanding experience - made even more pleasurable by the irrepressible manager Daren. A traditional English Sunday lunch served in comfortable, spacious - in places quirky - interconnecting dining rooms with attentive and personable staff keeping the buzzing guests fed and watered (or wined). Well worth the trip from Sydney, Australia, Thanks again, Daren - Greg F.

My partner and I stopped off at this cafe for lunch when arriving in Southport. On the car journey there, I looked at places for lunch and Hideaway came up in the recommendations. We both ordered a panini - the mozarella, sweet chill and chicken for me and a tuna mayo one for my partner. The paninis were a generous size and came with salad on the side. We both ordered a drink with this - soft drink and an americano. The total came to just over £20 which we didn’t think was too bad considering the size and quality of the food. I would certainly recommend this place for a lunch stop but also if you’re looking for something more fulfilling as the menu offers a rang of larger meals including a breakfast menu.

We stayed in Tosside Yorkshire for a family holiday from Scotland and looked to go out for dinner on our last night. We came across, The Old Vicarage Tearoom and we were so pleased we booked a table. All we said from the moment we took our first bites until we cleared our plates was WOW! The food was cooked to perfection. Two of us had Minted Lamb Pie, chips and peas and everything was all home made. Others had steak, never seen steak the size of a plate and cooked to requirement with no fat or complaints. And others had scampi. Couldn’t fault anything. If you want a delicious worth every penny meal out then we highly recommend. Make sure you book in advance as it’s a very small beautiful & quirky and can get booked up quickly. Complements go out to the amazing chef and host. If we have to travel from Scotland to eat here again we will. It’s amazing. Please book and try, we promise you will be amazed.

What a beautiful tea room set in a covered little courtyard. We discovered this place after reading amazing reviews. The scones are home made and absolutely delicious with a fresh filtered coffee. Although slightly hidden away, it is well worth a drive for afternoon tea

This is a venue that I have enjoyed visiting and being involved with, however the service during my last visit was shocking. I got a completely different meal that was ordered. The meals were not what was listed or lacking. And as you will see by the attached pictures, out tables were not cleared until asked to. Very disappointed. And also had issues with booking via the website as it started all timings were not available, what has happened to this place???

Overall, we enjoyed our time here for Sunday lunch. We think it's fair value and appreciate that they do not add service although we did. We appreciate having the choice. The service was good. Our hostess/waitress who did not introduce herself is very efficient. Service was unhurried but not too drawn out and attentive without being intrusive Our first two courses were good, particularly the mushroom course. It was beautifully creamy, and the Polenta crout was excellent What let the meal down was the beef main. We found the beef too stringy, and although the roast potatoes were good, the boiled carrots and white cabbage veggies were rather dismal. My partner called the mushroom duxelle pointless, I just found it tasteless . Overall, it was very disappointing. We had expected it to be the highlight As I have said, our first two courses were good and our pudding was enjoyable too. I loved the vanilla cream. Though my partner said it would have been nice to have a biscuity thing with it. I think that would work The decor is quite simple which we liked. It's a relaxing place to eat. The tables are a good size and the chairs are comfortable. I hate having to sit on poor quality ones. I would recommend this restaurant, but not sure we would return. Perhaps I am a philistine when it comes to beef as I am not keen on it being rare, especially when it's difficult to cut as it was here. Having a sharper knife would have helped

Had an early table booked for dinner today, and what a good idea it was.It had been a beautiful day and the view from the Hotel that contains the Tonnau restaurant is truly spectacular. We had a drink from the bar and took in the view whilst pondering over the menu which is quite comprehensive for all tastes. My wife chose the sea bass on a bed of veg and I chose the Italian chicken with mash and veg. These mains were beautifully cooked and presented hot and fresh. The desserts were duperb also and we retired back to the bar for coffee. The dining room is nicely presented with plush carpet and soft furnishings. The bar and lounge is also luxuriously fitted out and of course has the view. All staff were friendly and efficient and we had s really nice evening.

This is a very special hotel indeed. Kept, by its exuberant owner, in 1920’s style in homage to Agatha Christie who used to stay there. Full of old pictures and bits and bobs. Our bedroom ( medium size) was very comfortable with fun roll top bath but has modern amenities as well. But was next to the kitchen extractor fan which was noisy until 11 pm All the staff, mainly young people, were outstandingly helpful and polite. Nothing was too much trouble and it was the type of service I haven’t seen for many years. Well done. It is also highly popular , and full the nights we were there. Largely I suspect because of the combined dinner, bed and breakfast offerings. At very good value for money. The food was generally delicious and fresh. Duck, halibut, sea trout and the local crab and lobsters were outstanding but the “locally caught king prawns which, like the lobster, were landed today “ were obviously frozen as were tasteless and they ( king prawns) don’t live in UK waters. That was the only disappointment on the menu, which I wouldn’t have mentioned except they had been really hyped up by the enthusiastic person I assume was the owner. Good well chosen wine list and fine cocktails The reason I haven’t given five stars is with the regimented way guests eat. Severe set 25 minute table timings for breakfast and dinner. I do understand that the kitchen needs to be paced to cook such good food to order, but the timings on offer were not good for many of the customers. By the time we arrived to check in at 3pm after a long drive we had to settle for a 6.30 supper and 9.15 breakfast. The next day breakfast wasn’t available until 9.30 … hopeless for anyone who works or has to leave earlier.. and I overheard two couples saying their 6.30pm slot was far too early for dinner , but that was all that was left because the best table times had already been given to people from outside who had booked in for a meal. You are asked to go to the bar half an hour before your meal where you receive some underwhelming amuse bouche and are expected to buy a drink whilst perusing the menu. This is to help the chef timings but also allows for tables to be turned over and reset. The last day we were there the small bar was over crowded and we had to wait an hour to be shown our table. Service was then very slow. I just couldn’t eat rich food at 9pm having waited by then two and a half hours. So because I prefer more personalised service and eating at a time that suits my stomach, and I like to be sat at my table and not held in a “ holding pen” this is not an experience I personally wish to experience again. Having said that I realise that this hotel really does suit many of its guests, who really loved it. So it’s only my own opinion and I suspect I’m in a very small minority

An amazing small cafe offering vegan food - the service was great and though we just wanted drinks, we were tempted by the cakes. The cheese and spinach scone with onion chutney was delightful. We also paid for an extra drink as the cafe offers drinks to those in need - a great idea

We spotted the sign for this on the drive through, so after visiting the castle, walked back to find it. So glad we did. We had the platter to share, not a single thing could be faulted. Service was excellent. We loved the look of the cakes but were just so full, so purchased 2 to take home for later that day. Really sad I forgot to leave a tip, too busy chatting to the staff & looking around so much to see, even a gin distillery. We will be back.
