We booked a table for Valentine’s Day with high hopes. Unfortunately, we were left very disappointed and will not be returning. The food was good, but the experience was overshadowed by awful service. The doormen and coat room staff were very polite and friendly, but our server in the oyster bar was anything but. He didn’t welcome us to the table and seemed in a foul mood. Once we had ordered, he yanked our menus from under our plates and cutlery in an aggressive manner, almost knocking the glasses off the table. When we had finished our starter he proceeded to take our dishes without asking if we had finished or enjoyed the food. Basic courtesy and professionalism which you’d expect from this place was lacking. Towards the end of the night he proceeded to have an argument with bar staff in front of the restaurant and we heard shouting and swearing in the kitchen between staff. This culminated in him shouting in the kitchen “Don’t F***ing touch me” before coming out and pretty much bullying a member of staff behind the bar, saying “how dare you stand in front of my face and make jokes”. The entire experience was extremely awkward and we felt very unwelcome. I did not want to pay the service charge. The menu was not cheap, so considering the money we paid c.£300 (starter + main + bottle of wine + oysters) the experience was not up to standard and ruined what should have been a special experience. We will not be returning or recommending.

Ate here with my other half recently for a special occasion meal. For a starter and main each, shared dessert, half bottle of wine, two bottles of sparkling water and service, the bill was £550. Now, the service was excellent, and the food of the highest quality, and I get that hotel restaurants in London are going to be “expensive plus” but this wasn’t a £550 meal. It was a high £200s meal. Even with hotel overheads I can’t figure out where the extra £250-or-so came from. All this is immaterial because if you’re going to eat at the Connaught Grill you don’t care what I think. You’ll have an excellent meal but you won’t get value for money.

Was really looking forward to grabbing a bite to eat from this place, although I think I'll be giving it a wide berth from now on!! Definitely not the same as it used to be, i was working in the area for many years and really enjoyed the food from here. Unfortunately it's gone down the same road as al the other little independent shops and started hiking up prices. I just paid £6 for a four piece meat box meal, not even enough food there for the youngest child, and you don't get a great choice either, when I started going in there 13 years ago, they didn't have the box meal thing, and you could choose everything in the meat counter. Real shame, but appears greed has took over here!!

I wanted something quick, and the "Crispy chips, Greek marinated Chicken, Gouda & Garlic paprika aoli" sounded good. What a huge disappointment: the chips were as crispy as a wet napkin, totally soggy, the meat tasteless and the whole soggy mess totally swamped with masses of greasy "aoli". Really poor. The beer at the pub, however, was excellent.

This was our first time experience going to an Indian Tapas fine dine. We have special dietary requirements and Tyson George helped us throughout and made sure we were looked after really well. The food was very good quality and taste but one of the dishes were slightly spicier than they should be(according to me) otherwise food would have got 5 stars too. The atmosphere was great but we felt a bit claustrophobic because of too many tables in a relatively confined area. We were celebrating a special day and the experience made it more special. Tyson went the extra mile to make the day even more special by creating a special dessert for us. I think it is a must visit place if you are a food lover.

We booked a meal at the Elgar before seeing a performance. Nice restaurant, the lighting is a little too ambient for me, a little dark, and it was cold, a little draughty. We had a 2 course meal for £44 each. Had the best fish and chips I've ever tasted to be fair. It was delicious! However, as nice as it was, I find £44 for a 2 course meal that is at best a nice pub meal very expensive. I asked for just ice cream for dessert, so I expected some sort of sundae due to me not choosing a posh dessert from the menu and I got 2 of the smallest scoops of ice cream in a bowl, extremely disappointing considering I was paying about £14 for dessert. The servers are extremely lovely and polite and attentive, a little too attentive, all 3 came and asked us more than once if our meal was OK. It was a nice meal, but not worth the money unfortunately.
