Bodean's BBQ - Soho in City of London, Westminster

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Manager/ Host? awkward and rude greeting, should have looked at the menu and left then. We stayed, food so downgrade, downhill it's unrecognisable. Burnt ends? No. Mac & cheese? Packet. Server was sweet, Manager disappeared after Arsenal match finished, clearly a typical fan trait when you have to face up to a difficult confrontation. Would never recommend.

So, apparently another menu change? 9 quids for 100g of burnt ends, which was only around 19 quids for around 350g of it PLUS chips and slaw half a year ago! Absolutely shocking. Whoever thought this steep price increase is a good idea needs to be fired as soon as possible. At least food quality is similar or slightly better than before, but that can't justify this much of price increase. You can't just turn a sports pub that has been famous for affordable smoked meat mountain for more than 20 years into high-end, aka overpriced restaurant, if that's what you guys trying to do. Honest opinion. I won't be back.

Food was good. Service was absolutely shocking. 1-star shocking, the reason I've put 4/5 is ENTIRELY down to Ian who has bailed you out massively because he made things right with our experience and is one of the best service industry workers I've had the pleasure of being looked after by; as an ex-F&B Manager myself. Like sorry guys but this was bad, to the point the feedback I have for you is so long, it actually exceeds Google's very generous review character limit; thus, I will send you an e-mail and would appreciate greatly a response to address it. To follow-up: I sent the email and never ever got a reply, despite putting a lot of time into it. Bit gutted tbh.

i am giving this place a 1 star they have totally gone downhill whoever had the bright idea of changing the menu should be fired. I have been about 4 times already this year but absolutely will not be back the menu is now uninteresting and the prices are ridiculous. I completely understand that prices are going up but not to this amount. Im happy to pay more but at least have a decent menu. This review is no reflection on the staff as they are wonderful as always but when you see people including myself and party of 6 come in sit look at the menu and leave. Bills is just around the corner and now much much better. I give them 6 months.

I‘m so glad I‘ve come here. This was probably the best Pulled Pork I‘ve had in my life! The workers were really kind. We had to wait rather long but it was worth it! 😋😍 You‘ll LOVE it if you’re a BBQ Lover.

Everything is just perfect! Probably the best meal i had in my life and I live in Croatia and our food is rated one of the best in the world but this was just fenomenal. BBQ wings were out of this world, brisket 10/10, ribs perfect. The service was even better than food I can’t even describe how good the waiters were and they even gave us a free cake and candles when we told them that it was my mothers birthday. If you visit London you have to go here and I reccomend going downstairs to get the real London vibe and feel like you are from London.

Bodeans has always been a favourite of ours when visiting London. Noticed on our visit yesterday the decor has changed and they seem to be going back to their original roots which is great to see. Food, drinks and service were excellent, and a special shoutout to Cordell for making our visit super enjoyable! Look forward to our next visit!😊

We ordered the sharing meat platter plus fries, mash and Mac&cheese for three. It was all delicious and very filling, but no room for dessert. The restaurant is a cosy, casual space, with sports playing on the four TV screens - it feels like you've entered a men's club. 😆 There is also a large dining area below ground. Staff were helpful and I enjoyed my time there.

Having heard their menus were being overhauled by none other than Richard Turner I was keen to return to Bodeans, having felt their food offering had fallen way behind what BBQ should be. Unfortunately it seems nothing much has changed. I had the platter and the brisket and beef rib were the toughest bits of meat I’d had in a while (definitely do need teeth for this beef) whilst the rest (ribs, pulled pork) were dry and only saved when doused in sauce. We were told the £6 chips would be enough for two but were given what was a handful in a serving. A shame as having led the scene for the BBQ food scene this could have been a phoenix rising from the ashes but unfortunately its main draw just didn’t deliver. Service on the other hand was exceptional and I couldn’t fault the team.

Tough being a meat based business with prices where they are. You wouldn’t find reheated BBQ in proper joints in Kansas. You can always tell the difference - decent BBQ needs to be smoke on site fresh, rested then served.

I literally got the worst food poisoning I have ever had in my life. I had the BBQ platter. The result of which I could only describe as an emetic Jackson Pollock. On the plus side? Service and staff were nice though. The beer was served in a cold pint glass which was a real nice touch. Shame really. 0/10 do not recommend the food. 10/10 recommend the blue something pint that I had.

Bodean’s used to be great a number of years ago but it has really gone downhill. Sandwiches are now served on a small side plate with no side included. Ordered onion rings as a side and they were not edible - soggy, undercooked and very salty. Quality of meat is still high.

We recently booked a table at Bodeans to celebrate my brother's birthday, and while the food was absolutely delicious and plentiful, the standout experience was the incredible service we received. We ordered two of the platters and five sides for our party of five, and we left completely stuffed and satisfied. The real star of the show was our server, Kordell. From the moment we walked in, he was incredibly polite, welcoming, and attentive. He made sure we had everything we needed and created a truly enjoyable atmosphere. What truly made my brother's birthday special was Kordell's thoughtful gesture. After our meal, he surprised my brother with a complimentary dessert, complete with a candle. As if that wasn't enough, he followed it up with another for the table! His kindness and generosity were truly remarkable and made the celebration unforgettable. The food at Bodeans was fantastic, but Kordell's exceptional customer service took our experience to the next level. We highly recommend this restaurant for its delicious food and, especially, for the outstanding service provided by Kordell. He's a true asset to the establishment! We will definitely be returning.

If you like lots of BBQ meats then this is a place to visit. An American style BBQ menu offering Pork, Beef and Chicken. The food was well cooked and well presented. Service was good as to the ambience.

Bodeans Soho is becoming a birthday ritual for me and my partner and they don't disappoint. The food is awesome, prices are reasonable and service is very attentive without feeling tense or stuffy. Our waiter Antoinne was great and my fiancée got a complimentary dessert for her birthday. I already recommend this place to my friends and will continue to do so as it is a reliably fun meal out.

Staff were polite and helpful . The food though was very average . Have eaten better quality ribs .Basics such as mayonnaise for chips was not available . The restaurant staff referred to this as special sauce . Frankly there was nothing special about the sauce. We had margaritas 🍹 but there was no salt rim . When we requested that we would like salt on the rims of our glasses , the staff obliged willingly . No real choice for puddings.. Very average ..

The food was very tasty. Pleasantly surprised with the overall taste of each dish. We ordered the sharing platter for 3 people. It was the perfect amount of food. The meat was plentiful and tasty. (Could have been. Bit warmer) the highlights were side dishes. The bbq beans and the potato salad were incredible. The blue ribbon larger was a nice addition to the meal. Light refreshing and super cold. The only let down was the service. It was friendly but very very slow. Clearly understaffed on a busy Saturday afternoon with only 3 members of staff upstairs. The food arrived very quick but the staff only showed to take the order and deliver the food we didn’t see them again until he asked twice for the bill. No option of buying more drinks etc.

I used to go to Bodeans in the 90s, but then I drifted away, and the number of other BBQ options in London exploded. However, the new menu, under the guidance of Richard Turner is incredibly good - we tried the BBQ tray to share, and it was so full of good things - pork ribs, pulled pork, sausage, brisket, and a 500g 'Jacobs ladder' beef rib. It was all good, but the beef and the sausage were off the scale - this beef is going to be famous!

I have been going to Bodean’s for many years and have had some amazing experiences, hence returning frequently. However, my recent trip to Bodean’s was quite frankly one of the worst. The food tasted ok and the service was alright but the most disappointing thing was the menu. After being a loyal Bodean’s fan for many years, seeing a change to menu which was quite frankly a choice of food I’d expect to see from a burger establishment. Bodean’s is known for its American meat Combos, Nachos, Buffalo wings, and most importantly their thick chipotle and hot BBQ sauce - which has now been replaced with a watered down “bone sucking sauce” which had no flavour. The loss of the combo meals, the array of starters and the sauces which made Bodean’s the great establishment it was has now made it a semi upmarket burger restaurant (with half the menu now burgers). Unfortunately, if this menu and lack of decent bbq sauces is to stay - then I and many others won’t be returning. I hope the owners will come to their senses and bring back what gave Bodean’s its established name in the London BBQ scene.

So disappointed! We used to love coming here but the new menu has very limited options!! I can’t believe how much they have removed. We almost just left… Now they have separated ‘mains’ and ‘sides’ so they can cheekily make a meal cost twice as much :( the portion sizes have decreased too - 4 small burnt ends is not a portion! A small piece of chocolate brownie with one scoop of ice cream… is not a chocolate sundae! The decoration has changed to a basic diner - no family feel anymore. Been coming here for 8 years… will now need to find a new place to eat.

To date the worst Bodeans I’ve had for 15 years. There was absolutely no smoked flavour in the ribs, tasted like something from a pub chain like Wetherspoons, the chips were awful beefeater from a packet. Bland and horrible. I cannot and will not eat here again. I’m not sure what is going on but if they keep this low quality up they will not last long.

Found the place a bit by chance, but not bad at all. The place looks a bit small, and with the tables one next to the other, but all in all you are there for a quick dinner. The mix of brisket is excellent and the macaroni cheese is also good. The nachos are always the bad ones, without infamy and without praise. The bill is a little expensive for the type of place, but it's definitely worth going for the quality of the meat.

The theming of the restaurant is fantastic and the staff were great my only complaint is that a few in my group had chicken and it was quite dry I’d advise getting a beef dish

Returned after 6 years. And when I came here for the first time I gave this place one star. Looks like it has come a long way since there. Food was delicious! And the service was good.

What a fantastic experience this restaurant was. The food was good, the service was top notch and we had a nice time. Our waitress Chantal greeted us with a big smile and had friendly service. The portions of the food are enough. We were lucky enough to get the happy hour deal and they were delicious too. If we come to London more often, we will definitely come back here! Be sure to make a reservation, as it can be busy.

We rocked up about 3.30 on a Sunday and it was rather busy. We hadn't booked (and I'd recommend that you do) but we were extremely lucky. They didn't have any tables free and asked if we'd mind sitting at the bar, which was fine by us. The restaurant is on two floors, ground and lower ground. The lower ground floor was empty but they were not sitting people there. I'm guessing possibly staffing reasons. I had the burnt ends and my wife had the ribs. They both came with fries, coleslaw and a giant pickle slice. The coleslaw tasted like it was made in house and was really nice. Nice and creamy but not over the top. Fries were crispy with a lovely flavour to them. And the meat. OH MY GOD THE MEAT!!!!!! Melt in your mouth and to die for. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! I couldn't have any alcohol due to a blood test, but the cocktails looked lovely. Something I'm sure I'll come back to next time. Staff were lovely and very friendly. I'll be trying their Covent Garden location at some point, but until then, a worthwhile stop off in Soho.

Rated this place 5 star previously but last visit was really disappointing and a far cry from what it used to be. Poor selection of tap beers, food menu much more limited and the burnt ends which used to be the best around were cold and detracted from my meal.

Mi hija se metió en costillas y pan de maíz, y los demás devoraron su pollo. Como vegetariano disfruté mucho de una variedad de lados, incluidos aros de cebolla crujientes, mac’n’cheese y slaw. Al escuchar que era un cumpleaños, nuestro encantador camarero Marc nos sorprendió con un plato de cortesía de brownies calientes rebosantes de chocolate, coronados por helado de vainilla y una vela! Had the ribs and chicken thighs, was absolutely fantastic and reasonably priced as well for London definitely will be going back.

Really cracking food, very accepting of a lunch walk in and facilitated our lunch need quickly! The food was really reasonably priced however service was a little slow but that might be as we were situated in the corner of the restaurant. Overall great food!

Went a couple times 10ish years ago was good then but abysmal now. Meat seems microwaved luke warm slow customer service. small portions place seems run down you would think in central london for those prices the place would atleast be a bit better then a cheap local cafe or a kfc.place should be shut down for being. A health hazard hope the one bite I swallowed dont make me ill luckily it was beef.

The food was quite mediocre. I had the pulled pork & brisket combo. The meats were dry and the fries were very disappointing.

Good food and quick to serve at the start. But then had to ask for desert menu and bill. And more importantly gents loo had run out of toilet tissue and I didn't notice till it was to late. Had to text partner to get tissue bought in.

Good barbecue place. Always consistent. Americans note this is more like Kansas City BBQ or North Carolina, not Texas. Regardless quite good.

Went during the week on Thursday. Initially not too busy but people started coming later on after 7pm. Ordered the mixed platter and it was really tasty, some cocktails (Mojito was also delicious) and lime cheesecake which was nothing special, and the chocolate brownie with ice cream quite nice.

Great venue, food was good. The wings were super tasty, go for the bourbon sauce. Nice atmosphere with 80s music, friendly staff

Food arrived Luke warm, only the Mac and cheese was hot. It was obvious the food had just been re heated and was not fresh. The meat lacked flavour and the beef brisket was basically pulled beef in BBQ sauce. Very disappointed and was not worth the price. Definitely wouldn't recommend.

Had a fair amount of American BBQ in my time and this barely qualified. Starters were plain and chicken wings dry and chewy. Platter for two was horrendous. Chewy, dry, tasteless! Thankfully we received a refund but wow… If you like volume eating, there’s definitely food here. If you like eating food that tastes good (or of anything), don't bother.

Sorry ..... it disappointed. Long wait for food but wasn't that busy. Was it a little dry ? Probably - even the fries. The greens were very good, as were the wings. Everything else mediocre. Want to be positive but.....

Used to to to the Fulham branch years ago and loved it, but it's terrible now, portions are tiny, for it's average, and the service was abysmal, I waiter was covering the entire venue. Wouldn't go again.

I should have read some of the recent reviews, as we were somewhat disappointed with our experience. We were seated at a very small table. My ranch salad was good, but unremarkable. My husband found his ribs and chicken wings flavourless, and not very meaty. He also disliked the paper lining on the serving tray, which disintegrated and got onto the food. On the plus side, staff were very friendly and helpful. And my buttermilk corn muffins were delicious.

food was below average and quite disappointing, service was great and helped a lot with my girlfriends dairy intolerance, the actual place was stunning, amazing vibe and fun it’s just the food. my large dish consisted of 2 glazed chicken thighs, 3 glazed chicken wings, chips and coleslaw. The chicken was dry and genuinely tasteless while the glaze didn’t help at all, same with the chicken wings, really disappointed. the chips were really bland and soggy, had no seasoning because i guess juts to be safe they didn’t put any seasoning on the chips due to my gfs dairy intolerance but the seasoning wouldn’t have made it much better anyway and the coleslaw wasn’t fresh but was probably the best part of the dish. from the food i was served today i could tell the chefs either do not care about the food they cook or arnt chefs. really disappointing considering the amazing vibe and friendliness of the staff but at the end of the day you dine to eat good food, anything else is an extra.

What a disappointing evening out. Served lukewarm food which was salty but had no flavour. Once the food was served, no one came over to check if we were happy with the meal or even if we needed further drinks or desserts. When the bill arrived we ask for the service charge to be removed and they still were not interested to find out if there was an issue. Instead half the servers were by this time were sitting at the bar having a beer, just staring at us as we left.

This place has gone down so much, used to be great. I went to the Soho branch and had the smoked chick thighs, they were tiny and dry, the sides of coleslaw and fries were OK. Serving staff weee great. Meal was not worth £18, I will not be back although worth noting that the beers were cheaper than the pubs around there.

Food was very nice. The cocktails were amazing the bartender Marquise had amazing service which we all appreciated.

A special Christmas lunch with the family. OK food, but nothing special. The description of the nachos looked delicious but they were pitiful. Portions were quite small. Staff were polite but seemed very fed up. Wasn't mega busy. Toilets were vile - someone needs to give them a good scrub and sort the locks, only one of three was working. I wouldn't go again sadly.

It's been 8 years since I was last at BoDeans and it did not disappoint. The service was great, gentleman serving me was friendly and inviting. The food was brilliant. Everything tasted fresh and how proper BBQ should be. Would definitely recommend the burnt end. The atmosphere was quiet and chilled for the time I was there with people talking and football on the TV. Ideal.

The food in the photo cost 50 pounds, but the pork ribs were too dry and tasteless. The chicken was also quite overcooked and dry, and overall, the food was disappointing. I don’t understand why this place is popular. The fries weren’t even hot, and despite it not being a busy time, the food overall was cold and lacked flavor. It was a Monday lunch, and I’m curious if the 10% service charge is always applied. I ordered a draft beer, and while it was cold, it lacked flavor and tasted flat, as if it had gone stale. I would not recommend this place.

Bit of a strange experience this one - came for a birthday meal and booked in for a set time. Some of our party was running late so we were waiting for them to join us. One of the managers came to us not to take a drink order, but to remind us that we only had the booking for 1 hour left or so. That's all well and good except you haven't taken our order for the drinks yet.... The rest of the party arrive and we start to place our order, the man taking the order replies with only a stare and a "Yes.", no writing anything down so he forgot our side order we wanted. Staff were not very attentive throughout the meal, no checking in on the food or for more drinks. The food is okay, the portions are not massive. The vegan hot dog had barely any sausage compared to a massive bun, and only a small amount of chips. The brisket meals I saw on the table were not huge either, looked a poor amount for an evening fill-up. The BBQ sauces provided on the tables however were very nice. We finish the food and again, a manager comes over and reminds us that another booking is waiting and that they will need the table. At this point we still have 30mins left of the booking, and no one was asking if we want to order anything else so I'm very confused what we were supposed to do about that. Why is it put on the customer to rush out the door, instead of the staff she manages? We order a couple of milkshakes to finish, they are only some flavoured syrup in blended ice creams - not very thick like you'd expect of an American Diner style milkshake. Overall, the ambience and decor of the place was spot-on, but the food and the service was underwhelming. Would not rush back.

Is it under new management? it’s become very noticeable that the platters once piled high with BBQ food have become nothing but average sized meals, but still for the same price. The big chunky rib selection, replaced by a few skinny spare ribs. It’s now more burgers than BBQ. The comfortable restaurant completely closed so you now sit in the drafty cafe - and if our group of 10 hadn’t been there it would have been half empty. Sadly, after so many years of looking forward to our annual Bodeans Christmas gathering, missing only then year of Covid, this is the first year we’ve come away thinking we’ll be looking at finding our annual BBQ fix somewhere else next year. Which is disappointing, and quite sad, after so many years.

We visited on a Wednesday lunchtime with our kids. Our waitress was friendly and service was good. My husband had the baby back ribs, which were nice The house burger however was overcooked and not great. The kids meal was also ok but nothing special. They do provide crayons and colouring for kids. Most disappointing was how dirty the toilets were. My husband took our little boy to the men's but there was no toilet seat, no toilet roll and no soap! Overall I would not return.

Food was just not good, cheap and disappointing, even the chips were awful! The “key lime pie” is a bland cheese cake with two slices of lime on top with zero flavour. Toilets are disgusting and full of drain flies. Will not return unfortunately.

A shade of there former selves. Maybe it's time to shutdown for a week or two. Revamp the menu and refocus. The food not bad, but it feels like the place is succumbing to routine.

I’ve eaten at a lot of places over the years all over the country from chip shops in Blackpool to Michelin star restaurants however the service I received today at Bodean’s was by far the worst I have ever experienced however good the food is it can never make up for such shocking service it was that bad even my 5 year old son commented how bad it was. Unfortunately I will never get to experience the good food again because I will never be stepping foot near the place. I’d list the issues we had but there was so many of them that I really don’t have the time just take my word for it it was absolutely ridiculously bad
