Our first visit to this fabulous old pub but definitely not the last! Very friendly staff, exceptional Sunday lunch and a great atmosphere.
Perfect on a day when we were just out exploring Redwick, as we're new to the Magor & Undy area. What a find!
Came in as group of 12 last night and the service was fantastic considering they were very busy. The food was really good. Best chicken madras I've had. Would definitely visit again. Its bring your own alcohol FYI.

We went to the Coal house for a meal with our friends to get together one evening as a catch up to see everyone, we were warmly greeted and the staff was excellent. We had a nice tasty starter to begin with that didn't take long to serve.. Then Dinner was delivered soon after, which unfortunately wasn't quite up to the standard of the starter, it was nice and tasty but did lack abit in the quality, I personally had scampi, chips and peas, and yes it was nice, but was lacking in overall, a few of us agreed that the dinner wasn't quite a 5 star meal but more of a 3-4 star quality.. Soon after dinner desert came and was a very tasty desert. I personally had sticky toffee pudding and custard and was delicious.
So overall we had a nice welcome, good starter and desert, but the main dinner meal was slightly behind.. But the staff were fantastic and we enjoyed our stay.
Thanks you Coal house 😊
Just visited morris of usk, after walking around the lovely shopping area and purchasing meat from the well stocked butchers ( the butchers kindly cut me extra extra thick gammon steak) and then we went to the bakery for bread pudding still hot from the oven.
Although the restaurant was packed we still managed to get a table where we ordered cod and chips the cod came out like a whale, never seen fish such a big portion, both myself and my daughter we unable to eat it all. It was delicious, the only down side was we both had not room left to enjoy the lovely cakes they had on display. We will definitely be returning to try them next time.
Must also add that the staff work their sock off at the restaurant but are still kind and helpful.
Sue’s Gluten Free cakes are stunning! I’m currently tucking into a slice of gf lemon cake and it’s delicious, Sue is lovely too. The lemon & Blueberry, coffee and cherry bakewell are all just fabulous ❤️❤️

Best pub whilst I have catch up with my friends there has been great services. Staff was helpful and friendly and they did best garlic cheesy bread is yummy
I stayed here for 3 nights, my room was comfortable, clean and tidy. Convenient location for train station, University, restaurants and shops. Best thing about my stay however was Sandra! She's so friendly, kind and nothing is too much trouble. She made sure I had everything I needed and sorted things quickly when booking.com messed up my reservation. Would stay again!
the food was terrible never tasted anything like it the steak tasted like cardboard and the chips were stone cold the staff were so polite i couldn't of asked for a better server she was amazing (girl in glasses and a pony tail she was so sweet and kind) she deserves a raise just by the way she was talking and was so helpful, back onto the food i ordered a cheese cake after it and it came unpresentable but it all goes down 1 way i guess defo recommend for couples and family's on a budget
