Food was very nice, loads of flavour! Plenty of options on their menu. Service was 10/10, the two ladies on shift was really friendly & got you involved in conversations. All the locals are lovely too, really welcoming to the area.

Great home made food and lovely staff - we haven’t been since new ownership yet had a fabulous experience - the lasagne and curry were excellent : the starters (potted mushrooms plus the Brie ) were also first class - we will be back very soon

A quaint old-fashioned little pub set in the heart of Redwick village. Brought the family here for lunch and a few drinks, The Rose is the only pub I've found that sells Hobgoblin on hand pump and it was delicious 😋 Lovely atmosphere inside, the staff were very welcoming, friendly and accomodating. We were so happy with our visit today we will definitely be coming back in the future. 10/10

My friend and I stopped here for a Sunday roast, and we were both really impressed! You can choose from a selection of meats or opt for the vegetarian wellington, both served in a large Yorkshire pudding and with all the usual trimmings. The food was delicious, very filling and the staff very friendly. The pub itself is located in a quaint village not far from Newport. Thank you to all the staff for a lovely experience! :)

Last minute booking on Sunday for my partner and I. Very friendly on the phone and managed to have a table free. From the minute we arrived the staff were so warm and friendly, couldn't do enough for us. The Sunday lunch was absolutely mouth watering, the roast potatoes were so delicious. All staff were attentive, even the chef came out and asked us if everything was OK. Highly recommend. Fabulous xxxxx

Well there is nothing I can say. Food was outstanding, friendly and very,very welcoming. I'm very fussy with my food,but my plate was empty. Can't wait to go back for sandwich,lasagne, cheeseboard and a homemade cheesecake. Staff was wonderful and so helpful, bringing drinks to your table, opening the door ,asking everything ok . 100% go there again. Plus what a beautiful area.

First time trying out the Rose and we had such a wonderful time. Food was 10/10 Portions were really good size and the chips were so good. Staff were friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. We will definitely be back. Well done all 😁

The Rose has recently been taken over, so the new team obviously have to settle in, refurbish (it's in need of TLC, now most of the decor has gone). I had a baguette one lunchtime; loads of filling but the bread was so overrated it couldn't be cut.. I scraped the filling off. A few dayslater I tried the liver & bacon; beautiful gravy, soft liver, BUT NO VEGETABLES, just pea shoots! Keep it simple... this is a country pub with regulars who want traditional no frills meals.

Only stopped in for a drink, but such a friendly pub. Obviously very popular for food as majority of the tables were booked for lunch. Menu and specials looked appetising.

I met up with family here as it was a good halfway meeting place. We had a delicious lunch and were really well looked after by two lovely ladies. The food was good and arrived quickly. Definitely worth a revisit.

Literally only giving the second star because the staff were lovely and my little girl loved the playground which is always great to see at a pub. The pub was crawling with flies, spent half the meal swatting them off the food and when we looked up at the ceiling it was absolutely covered! Really puts you off your food which was a struggle to get through in the first place. Stay away from the garlic mushrooms and chilli prawns, both came drowned in sauce and sat on top of the cheapest, thinnest white toast that was basically still bread from being so under-toasted and sopping wet from the sauce. Fryers must not be hot enough because chips and fish both soggy and too dark from having to sit in the oil longer to cook through. Hunter's chicken looked like someone had thrown it up onto the plate. Desserts all bought premade, to the extent that a sundae was still inside its plastic container and then just popped inside a sundae glass! Pavlova was mostly cheap strawberry ice cream, but the apple pie was the worst, so undercooked it still looked raw. Never mind that most of the mains were north of £15 each. I'm sure this a lovely pub just to have a pint in the garden on a sunny evening, but please don't eat here.

Friendly staff. Busy pub, fully booked for dining. Not a good pint of ale, very cloudy, didn't taste good, then shortly after the ale was taken "off". Fairly basic menu. Pie was a very average casserole with puff pastry lid. Chilli very bland. Desserts not brilliant. Profiteroles covered in squirty cream, profiteroles themselves not brilliant, looked similar to those in freezer in supermarket. Pavlova was actually an ice-cream dessert, and I don't eat ice-cream, completely different to what was described so I asked for it to be taken off of the bill, which was done without question. We were hungry and needed food. Wouldn't return.

Wonderful pub with excellent food and very friendly staff and owners. Have been going regularly for some time now as my parents live locally and can never fault the food or the service! Lovely big garden area with play area and swings/slide etc for kids, dog friendly in the bar area too if well behaved! Had a christening in the village hall next door and the pub was happy for us to take out drinks back to the hall and just bring the glasses back when done. Absolutely fantastic pub, highly recommended!

Went here on bank holiday weekend with my young family and parents. Plenty for the kids to do with a well equipped beer garden. Pub itself was a classic looking “oldie worldy” pub with friendly service from the staff. Food was plentiful, hot and tasty! Enjoyed by all! Will be back. Highly recommend!

Fantastic Sunday lunch in a traditional British pub.

A few years ago my friend and I stopped here on the way to a stag doo further into Wales. We didn't eat, just had a pint so I am only basing my review on the atmosphere (including smell) it was a great feel in the pub and the food smelled nice and home made. Also the sign of a great pub is it felt like the entire village was in there and the bar staff and locals were friendly! I think I can say that despite my visit being 2018, it is till the same, I think the photo also proves that! I recommend it to people if they are visiting that part of Wales and would love to go back some day!

Booked an afternoon buffet for our father’s birthday. We had a fabulous family afternoon. We had the warmest of welcomes, the best of service, and excellent food. Couldn’t fault it. Thanks to Sarah, Gary and the team.

Wanted to find somewhere to break our journey from west Wales to Dorset and asked TA for pubs in the vicinity of Magor Services… 4 miles off the M4 in a smashing quiet little village was the Rose Inn - friendly welcome, good beer & wine, excellent freshly cooked pub standards for food (plus some more exotic specials, but it was lunchtime so….) Good value, dog friendly and a cracking “find” - thanks! A pub that we’d love to have as our local, why can’t all pubs be this good.

Could not fault the food! We all enjoyed what we ordered thoroughly and will definitely be back. Generous portions, with big chunks of meat in the pies and lovely chips. 100% recommend.

We visit here fairly often for Sunday lunch which is to die for! the food on the menu is always so full of flavour and difficult to choose between. Always served quick and plenty of food on the plate. the staff are always friendly and you are always made to feel welcome. A good selection of beers and spirits too. I Can't wait for our next visit!

Great family pub with super friendly staff! If you are looking for GREAT pub grub, with an amazing array of special as a bonus, you definitely need to try here! The play area for the kids is perfect so the parents can unwind a little too!! Inside the pub in traditional style but in my opinion that adds to it’s warmth and character.

Rang in advance and told there were plant based options, but reality was different. Yes there were around 4 possibilities on the menu, but not all were available. The vegan chilli was ordered but it was such a small portion and not much more than some spicy beans. The solitary vegetable side did not appear until I asked for it. Very disappointed and resented paying around £11 for this course.

The menu is quite extensive with a good variety of dishes to choose from. We had the steak pie and liver and bacon. The steak and the liver were extremely tasty and delicious, but the meals were let down by the frozen chips and the ready made pastry. We are not huge eaters but both found the portion sizes small. The desserts were also bought in and not particularly good. The crumble is not a crumble. I would suggest offering regular and large portion sizes. We would have been happy to pay extra for a larger plate.

I went to eat a Sunday Roast and to eat outside with my dog. The service was friendly, and the pub atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The food was great, and as it was quiet my dog was able to relax too.

So disappointing as we looked forward to today for ages! The best bit was the veg - great selection (5) all served nice & hot - meats mediocre - lamb /beef 👎 Mine host abrupt - little personality- waitress pleasant enough - venue dated , still has Xmas Decs up - grubby -needs stripping out and a new fit out!

Probably the best pub meal we've had! The food was so full of flavour and the portions were very generous. Only ever stopped for drinks before when on bike rides, but decided to pop in for dinner today and are very glad we did! Thanks for a lovely evening meal after work, we'll be back!

On cycle route 4 so very convenient. Two different draught ciders available, also a food menu. Sat outside and enjoyed the tranquillity of a quiet village.

We come here often and have got to know the owners and their staff. All are very nice,polite and full of laughs. Our food and drinks never disappoint us , so tasty.

A lovely clean and tidy countryside pub. Friendly staff and easy parking make this a nice pub to visit with indoor and outdoor seating area's. A playground for the kids to entertain themselves and good food at reasonable prices makes it well worth a visit.

My friends and I were on the final day of a 63 day walk around the Welsh coast to raise money for Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice. Needing to start our last day’s walk from Redwick, we asked permission of the landlady to leave our vehicle in the pub car park. She graciously gave her permission without hesitation. As we were walking through the car park an irate man approached us and asked what we were doing. I explained that we had permission from the landlady to park there. He responded, quite rudely, that he was the landlord, and as we were not customers we needed to move. Congratulations, sir! You’ve won the prize for the rudest, most objectionable man we encountered in 9 weeks travel around Wales. It takes a special sort of person to make life difficult for those trying to raise money for sick children.

Generous steak and ale pie. Bit worrying when the veggie options are listed as 'please ask for options available'... Excellent covid measures. Decent playground/garden for kids. Obliging staff, although our food took an hour to reach us. Owners have obviously have made an effort to make shelter outside during lockdown which was welcomed. Avoid Thursday evening around 7pm unless you want an aerobics track from Village Hall next door Garlic bread disappointing, good chips.
