Awesome but never open on a Sunday anymore

Closed when I arrived although Gooe said it was open. Not sure if temporary or permanently shut so can't comment on food.

Cheese and onion toastie done properly, like at home. It was lovely food, friendly service and a good environment.

The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were really friendly and helpful Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a classic breakfast!

The food was lovely, not so much the sausages. The one thing I was disappointed in was the owner and one of the girls was at logger heads. I was asked if I knew one of the girls and if she had a problem because I did know her a bit from a long time ago. The reason this annoyed me was I do not wish to get involved. It was the first time in over a year me and my husband was kid free and decided to spend some time together before our baby scan. The lady did apologise though for herself and her staff. I must say the girl cooking the breakfasts at front was amazing. The food was delicious. She was on it, fast and organised. Although the place could do with a good clean. I always wipe my table over when I’m finished no matter where I go and when I lifted up the centre table piece that holds the salt and pepper, I was shocked. The mess did not come from ourselves. I don’t think I will be returning but again, I have to take my hat off to the girl with the dark hair cooking out front

First time visiting this place with my little boy while we were waiting for my car to pass MOT and it was lovely! Breakfast was really nice, everyone was so friendly and so reasonably priced compared to other cafes. Will definitely return.

Where to even start… After being shouted at walking in through the door to take a seat and “I’ll be with you shortly” it’s safe to say we weren’t served shortly. The owner swanned around the cafe gossiping with what I presume to be either regulars or friends of hers, shouting orders at her poor staff and refused to let them out of the kitchen to take orders (her attitude towards them is disgusting and I’m surprised she has staff left), To be served a cuppa with god knows what floating around it. Just as I think to myself surely it could get no worse my breakfast arrived after watching people who were served after us get their food first, on the owners command as well, shouting over at the girl on the griddle who was even heard trying to protest the fact that there was people first… (nearly 35 minutes for 2 breakfasts) and 45 mins for toast to come out with the LONGEST blonde hair I have ever seen 🤢🤮. The food however was cooked to perfection and the staff were so patient and kind they don’t deserve to be working in a business like that with a bully at the helm!

Absolutely fantastic. Great to see that there is still a greasy spoon cafe in town. Food brilliant prices brilliant atmosphere brilliant need I say any more.

Best Sunday roast by far, iv had so many takeaway Sunday roasts. But nothing beats fanny's cafe, the meat is so tender, and the roast potatoes are to die for. All fresh and homemade. Best around.

Waited a long time to order and a long time for food to come out and then it was average with uncooked black pudding. I ordered back tea but it came out with milk, I didn't complain as could see how stressed out everyone was. I heard the lady say they were short staffed and I think the lady cooking was new aswell so may have not been the best day to go.

Stopped by yesterday for breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed what we had. There was 7 of us and our waitress was great, she was really helpful and hard working. I had the veggie breakfast which is the best I've had in an extremely long time, it was great, really tasty and plenty of it. Food was good value for money. Would recommend this place if you're in the area.

Wow. What an awesome place. Lovely staff, nice little setting right by the Docks in Newport. Easy access. Full covid restrictions followed. The food was amazing. I had the Jumbo brekky, it was perfect. The misses had a sausage bap. It’s was lovely. Hot and brilliant portions. Highly recommended 100% Really cheap, hot, all local suppliers too!

Not surprising how many people love Fanny's... Had a lovely breakfast with the boy today, greeted at the door and shown to our table, order taken nice and quickly and good atmosphere while waiting. The day started with a miserable trip to Newport to collect some impounded cars. With 45 minutes spare before our journey, we decided to have breakfast and stumbled across Fannys cafe. With their wonderful and warm service, coinciding with a perfectly cooked and portioned breakfast, our sour trip was turned sweet. Might have to get my cars impounded more often. Until the next time.

We have had a full English breakfast at Fanny’s on a few occasions and every time it has been amazing!. Delicious, good portions, good value for money. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.

Long wait to get in long time to order and when I asked to use the toilet was told no good food but takink covid over the top treated like an inconvenience sad to say I won't go back

Was recently in the area having an MOT on my son's car and was at a loose end. I decided to call in but a little wary on how I would be treated and would I be safe in the premises. Was greeted by the owner and after signing in and hand sanitising at their station was pointed to a spotlessly clean table. I had a flask of coffee with me as I intended drinking it at the MOT station. I explained that I'd like to take it out of my pocket as it was uncomfortable but wasn't going to drink it on the premises. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and even suggested a cheaper breakfast where I could drink my own coffee. Super impressed by her help I declined and took her up on the "mega breakfast" which was cooked to perfection and served fresh and piping hot. Brilliant breakfast and brilliant service. Felt great to eat and help a local small business. I wish you all well in these troubled times and will call again when possible.

Been working nearby and been coming in for lunch time. Staff are always friendly and chats with you. Food is lovely, price is great, breakfast rolls are really nice and the coronation chicken is to die for. Will definitely be going back to try more of the menu.

Jo and team was excellent from start to end. I went to Fanny’s today and had the Sunday roast my husband had faggots peas and chips. Couldn’t fault it. Very conscious about Covid was brilliant to see the measures in place . Thank you everyone for an enjoyable experience.

Fanny welcomed a large group of us for a Sunday brunch after a family gathering for the 6 nations rugby. impeccable service, tremendous food and great value...Fannys will be a regular for us whenever we are the area. Thank you, ladies.

Called in this morning after pricing a job near by, had a quick chat with the two lady’s there and ordered breakfast and choose a table, great breakfast and ended up having a really nice chat with the owner who I guess is Jo after reading other reviews on here. Great chit chat with Jo who told me about her journey in the catering industry, seems a very hard working woman. One of the better cafes I’ve been to and was made to feel really at home I must say. I will be back ;-)

We had a great and good value Sunday lunch at Fanny's today.A good portion served piping hot.One chicken and one beef which were both cooked beautifully.The three ladies were very welcoming, friendly and chatty.If you want a traditional Sunday lunch in a fabulous retro setting this is the place for you!

Called here this morning after reading the reviews and felt disappointed.The place is in a very run down part of Newport and leaves you feeling vulnerable.The Cafe fits in with the locality and has a very tired feel to it.The food was poor along with the service. Waiting over 30 minutes for a breakfast is too long especially when customer who ordered after you, get there's before you!Friendly staff, but all way too loud - Wouldn't go back there even if I was paid to go!Fannys is not for me!

Always a welcome smile as you go into the restaurant. Decor is quirky and fascinating. In the last 14 months since discovering this gem we have never had a bad meal. Food is always freshly cooked to order, piping hot and delicious. All reasonably priced and served with a smile. You would be mad if you dont try this place out,

I spotted this restaurant when I was watching the tour of Britain cycling. Right away the old buildings caught my eye and I was drawn to a quirky American style diner.My first visit was a few weeks later for a mid morning breakfast. The restaurant is styled inside and out with a retro American theme.As soon as I walked through the door I was welcomed by the friendly staff who right away was happy to help with my order, this made me feel extremely comfortable as I have a gluten allergy. The staff understood my allergy and told me what I can and can’t have and explained that they will keep everything separate.The service is amazing and the food is great!A big thanks to the owner Jo for such a well run restaurant and making my visit pleasant every time.

Afyer fighting through the crowds since this cafe has become famous (faggots & peas) it was usual friendly staff good, home cooked food and proper chips, not frozen.

Lovely cafe full of memorabilia, called in after seen a board across the road. Great value breakfasts, nothing too much trouble for the friendly and chatty staff. Well worth a visit.

I recently visited this cafe after a recomendation by a friend, even though I had not been there before it felt like home, I was told about her Faggots and was curious to say the least. To me they looked like big meatballs but tasted far better, I would recommend trying her Faggots I will definitely be visiting again when I am in the area.

I Visited last week for a mid morning breakfast, the owner Jane was very welcoming and friendly. She was also able to understand my gluten allergy and cater for me. Food was very quick and delicious. I absolutely recommend to everyone.

Friendly welcoming staff - clean and tidy tables - reasonable prices. Had bubble & squeak + two fried eggs & a sausage. Large mug of tea and the meal and tea came to £3.30. The cutlery was spotless. All in all I’d recommend this place.

A warm welcome and a great breakfast. This is a perfect way to start the day and Fanny's is outstanding in both.

Stopped here for a bacon sandwich whilst out on a bike ride. I wasn't sure how long the wait would be as a table of six had all just ordered cooked breakfasts, but our sandwiches still arrived quickly and were delicious. As we left, the ladies were happy to refill or water bottles for us.

When we ever stay in wales, we always go to this cafe. Great service, value for money and great portion size.

It took me 62 years to try this place and was I utterly delighted. The service was second to none and the food was excellent. I used to be an avid customer of Wetherspoons ... but no longer. This is top of my list. Although I have only visited once, I would proffer that you will be hard pushed to find something that equals this. I can't wait to go back now that I am no longer a "Fanny Virgin"

We visited the cafe prior to walking across the aerial walkwalk on the nearby Newport Transporter Bridge. Great friendly service great family atmosphere with a mixture of people obviously enjoying the food. Highly recommended for a visit.

Sweet little café with funky old fashioned American diner decor, British greasy spoon food with loads of choice, decently priced and polite and friendly staff.

A great traditional cafe. I use it with my bike training students, whenever we are in the area. Lovely milky coffee, and the doorstep toast, with mushrooms and bacon is a must. Free on street parking is possible. It's a favourite of mine.

Three beautifully cooked poached egg on brown toast and a lovely cup of tea. And an amazing view of one of the most famous sites in Wales - the Transporter Bridge. If you love Welsh cafes you must go here!

I have visited this cafe a number of times when I am in Newport. There are very few places left like this where you can pretty much order whatever you want. The staff are lovely and I really look forward to going there!!

Proper grub served by really nice people. Prefer bigger mugs but becoming a regular!

went in with hubby for food placed ower order when my food come after over half hour of waiting it looked like dish water it was suppost to have bin chicken chaussure it was taste less piled up on my chips .

If you have time visit the transporter bridge visitor centre, but look across the road. Hotel and former transport cafe. Fanny,s decor wise is interesting with American themes and musical instruments.

We called in for breakfast. Both breakfasts were really nice, piping hot, perfectly cooked and very tasty. We have a full English breakfast at various cafes in Cardiff on Saturday mornings and often while staying in hotels. This was one of the nicest I have had in a long time. Smashing staff too, really nice welcoming and friendly.

I run a motorcycle training company and frequently find ourselves in the Newport are. We try and visit Fanny's whenever we can.

As we enter a friendly greeting. We sit and i looks all miss mash but its friendly its different and it looks better than you see outside no offence food well it was hot cooked to perfection anf tasty would be back and think we have found aplace that knows what a cool breakfast is well done xx

Visited twice during the Welsh Junior Athletics Champs. Like walking into the past in the best possible way. With falling standards in taste and the ever present McD only the best local cafes survive.

I run a motorcycle training school and often find ourselves training in the Newport area.

Plenty of choice for breakfast and lunch. Great breakfast bap, very reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit!!

On a walk with my brother, son and dog on a bitingly cold day we came across Fanny’s at lunchtime. I popped in to see if we could sit inside as we had a (small) dog. The waitress asked the other customers if they minded and none did so we were allowed in. Had a simple but freshly prepared bacon roll each and tea, the service and chat were great with even some kitchen scraps and water for the dog. A second round of tea was on the house and the whole bill came to less than £10. I would absolutely recommend Fanny’s to anyone; not posh nosh but freshly prepared, honest food served perfectly.

We haven't been for a while but visited today with two students. I run a motorcycle training school in Cardiff and was a regular visitor at Fanny's but hadn't been for a while.

I called in for a (very) late breakfast with my daughter - ordered two breakfasts & a couple of extra sausages for my dog (in the car outside - it was a wet day. Clean, tidy environment and friendly service which appeared to be popular...

Fab breakfasts delicious, great service and very friendly staff. great value for money. Great choice also do fab lunches nothing is too much trouble.
