Y Maerun in Newport

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Y Maerun, and I must say, it was an unforgettable culinary experience. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was inviting, with a warm and cozy atmosphere that immediately put us at ease. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure every aspect of our dining experience was perfect. Now, let's talk about the food. Oh my goodness, where do I even begin? Each dish was a masterpiece, bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. From the appetizers to the desserts, every bite was a delight to the senses. The chef truly knows how to elevate each ingredient to create dishes that are both inventive and comforting. While some might lament the lack of a view, I found that the restaurant's charm more than made up for it. In fact, it almost added to the intimate atmosphere, allowing us to focus entirely on the delicious food and the company of our dining companions. What truly sets Y Maerun apart, however, is the fact that we stumbled upon it by chance initially, but after our first visit, we made it a point to find it again. That's how extraordinary the dining experience was - it's the kind of place you just can't wait to return to. Held my son's surprise 50th birthday get together here on the 29th march. Room was fab , staff can't do enough for you. Food exceptional, large portions and good prices. Would highly recommend the Y Maerun.

Fantastic friendly service! Food was good and cosy little table up the stairs. Real melted cheese on the nachos and some chilli would have been best! But that’s just personal preference.

Great family run pub. Food is always beautiful and doesn't taste like typical microwave pub grub you can tell its cooked freshly. Alys always looks after us and makes sure we are all catered for. Bonus as its dog friendly!

Lovely meal tonight I and my friend had the lamb. Hubby had burger with peanut butter! 1 fudge brownie. 1 fudge cake and 1:meringue. We all enjoyed whilst friends hubby home sick… next time our friend… see you soon. Entertainment really good but needed to leave for friends poorly hubby…..X

I've never been here before, I never knew it was there. I've passed the place lots of times, We had a gorgeous lunch. Service was amazing. Food and desert very good.😋 😋 😋 I definitely will go back again.

Landlord exceptionally helpful and welcoming, service was great, food was fantastic. The Sunday lunch was excellent and very tasty, portions were great, meat cooked to perfection. Definitely will return.

Ths was I think the Port o Call and I wish the name had been kept as don't like the Welsh name. Food was OK but the environment was too hot. Located in Marshfield adjacent to the main rail line from Newport to Cardiff.

The Y Maerun is one of those local pubs that just gets everything right. A warm welcome with every visit from all the staff. It’s now become our regular local, as the staff are attentive, friendly and up for a friendly bit of banter. The food is consistent excellent and very good value for money. I love the chicken fajitas as they come on a sizzling cast iron tray with a heap full of bell peppers, onion, and melt in the mouth chicken breast chunks with Cajun seasoning to die for! Tonight the cook Callum made a special vindaloo curry that was hot but not crazy hot and warmed up all the senses. One of the best I’ve ever tasted. I cannot recommend this country pub enough. They have regular live bands, special meals and evenings where the place is buzzing with locals and visitors having a great time. The Sunday roasts are cooked with love and taste like ya mum made it! I’m a fan as you can tell, because having a friendly local with consistently excellent food and service is something to shout about, well done to the whole team!

Fabulous Sunday lunch, whole chicken, stuffing, roasties, pigs in blankets, parsnips, new potatoes, broccoli, carrots and cabbage, gravy for £24. Dessert chocolate orange torte, scrumptious. Proper old school home made cooked food. Great friendly service, like a pub should be in my eyes. Everyone treated equally. This will be a regular, not many pubs like this any more. Definitely worth a visit for weekday now too!! Home from home.

Visited recently for a Sunday Roast and was not disappointed! Fantastic service and atmosphere as ever, and the food was brilliant. A whole roast chicken for two, with all of the sides and trimmings, deliciously and quickly cooked. Fantastic value for money too! We will definitely be coming again!

As we were camping locally we decided to visit this 'close by' pub for a rare meal out. I chose a 'specials' dish from the blackboard - BBQ pork ribs with Cajun chicken and spicy wings. When asked if all was alright I answered ' yes thank you' however at this time I had not tasted the pork ribs. I soon discovered that the ribs were inedible. They were extremely tough with gristle with barely any seasoning. I did attempt to eat them but could not cope with such a poorly prepared food. The Cajun chicken and spicy wings were ok but did not make up for ribs. In an effort to make the dry dish mor palatable I asked a male barman if I could please have some BBQ sauce. He forgot and was reminded again before the sauce arrived. Needless to say my meal was not finished. The forgetful barman collected our plates and again asked if everything had been ok. I informed him that the ribs were inedible and I had left them. He inspected the ribs and said he would inform the chef. Nothing more was said to us until we went to pay for the meal. The barman then said it is a shame we are paying the bill as the 'chef WAS going to ask if you wanted a complimentary dessert'. We paid and left and vowed not to return to pub. A shame as we are frequent visitors to the area.

The burger and chips I had , had no flaver to them and the lasagna was mostly melted cheese and no mince and hardly any pasta . Most disappointed

Only popped in for a pint, so I don't know much about the place. The menu looks good and interior is nice, also a large outside patio/ dining area.

Stunning little country pub in the heart of Marshfield. Beautiful interior, nice menu with plenty to choose from. Lovely beer garden with facilities for the kids . Had the chicken tikka masala, it came with half rice and half chips with popudum pieces . If you fancy a drive out into the country then I recommend this place 👌

Really good service on Saturday night, plenty on the specials board... Log burner going full blast kept us really warm.

First time visiting Saturday lunch time enjoyed the visit. Food was okay nice beers. One Negative thing the chief should make home made chips would make a big difference. Nice friendly staff.

Service good, food tasty... would give it 5 stars but food portions are a bit hit and miss every time I visit....need to sort their portion control, otherwise great pub to visit

Went for a christmas lunch with work and every meal was spot on, not one single complaint. Bar staff and waitresses were friendly and provided an amazing service. Definelty recommend, will be coming here more often as will other colleagues from work.

Very Welcoming and Friendly There was a big group of us visit including lots of children and they could not be more helpful, they also made a fuss of the birthday involved. Highly recommend a visit. Fantastic for all ages even have a small farm area and park for the children to enjoy.

We were just having a drive about had been to the lighthouse and just took the road to y Maerun by mistake. We stopped as it Was lunchtime wow what a lucky mistake we made, we had salmon bruschetta delicious, presentation was perfect. I had cod husband had chicken skewer a piece of art in itself, both were well presented, staff were friendly and attentive but were not over the top. Only one tiny moan is the table was slightly tacky this was from not being dried properly after being sprayed when being cleaned.

Three of us called in having pre booked lunch. Met by a smiling Alys (assuming it was Alys, as that was the name on the bill) who showed us to our table. Drinks were ordered and arrived very quickly. Two of us had the skewers which looked more like an art installation than a meal so beautifully were they presented. They were also delicious. Desserts were just as tasty with plenty of choice all brought by a permanently smiley and very pleasant Alys, despite it seeming as though she was the only one serving. The chips could have been a bit longer cooked but that's a minor detail. We will definitely return here. Thank you.

Had a great time with the Gary Barlow tribute night the singer was on point everyone up dancing the staff were great keeping the drinks flowing cannot wait for the next time

I can highly recommend this pub. The food tasted amazing was served hot and good size portions. Has good amenities for families with a lovely outdoor area safe for children.

Good range of drinks on tap and friendly service. Unfortunately the Sunday lunch wasn't great, as the veggies were overcooked, the beef lacked flavour and the roasties were soggy as the whole thing was swimming in pre-loaded gravy. My wife's steak skewers were overcooked too. Shame, as the last time we went, the skewers were excellent.

A wonderful place to stay with your four legged friends 🐕 super friendly welcome and service. Fantastic location for walking to Harlech beach or touring the North West Coast. Delicious freshly prepared food. My favourites include the curry and the steak. Just a word of advice, you need to book to eat in the restaurant.

A regular with the family and is in close proximity to my sisters which makes it convenient. This occasion was my mother's wake where we had a great attendance. The pub can accommodate a good crowd of people and we had some finger food laid on. Not a great reason to be in the pub but a great pub to have it in.
