Booked a table for 6 on Saturday night with a well behaved dog. Food was amazing and the Butty Bach went down well. All 6 of us said it was nice to see an old traditional pub. Will.B.Back Ps the staff and owner were so friendly which made the dinning experience more the better. 10 out of 10.

HORRIBLE LANDLORD, UNFRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE , SERVES COLD , OVERPRICED FOOD! If you are not a local, don't expect a warm welcome. The rice with the curry was cold, some of the chips were warm, others were stone cold. The 2 other meals were OK. The garlic bread was also stone cold. The 2 cold meals were sent back. We did not want replacements as we would not have been eating together. The Landlord was informed and did not come over to apologise. When we went to pay for the 2 meals and drinks, we queried his lack of an apology. He basically denied that the food was cold. He tried to maintain that the food was 80 degrees when it left the kitchen. We were sitting 6 steps away from the kitchen. A very unpleasant altercation then occurred, in front of all the other diners, between my daughter and husband, where the Landlord became confrontational and it appeared that he wanted to have a physical fight with my husband. The staff seemed afraid of him. After reading other negative reviews, which are hidden, it appears that this behaviour from the landlord , has happened on numerous occasions. I suggest that he needs to go on a customer relations course and anger management course, with immediate effect.

They say they are a pub. Not for me they're not Mid afternoon on a saturday, Restaurant in darkness, pub area tables with reserved signs on, which were only put on as we waited for drinks. Clearly not wanted. Tables only booked from 5pm, Why on earth couldn't we use them until then? Never been made to feel so unwelcome in a pub. Needless to say, we left and won't be back. Very arrogant landlord. Only interested in food business.

AVOID THIS PUB. LOOK AT NEGATIVE REVIEWS BEFORE YOU GO. The behaviour of the Landlord was appalling! After being served 2 cold meals out of 4, he refused to apologise and accused us of lying. His behaviour was aggressive and confrontational. His staff are clearley afraid of him! A good pub never sends cold food out of the kitchen.

I was recommended Sunday lunch here by several friends, so took their advice and made a booking. The welcome was great, the table was ready and we were promptly served drinks. The menu was excellent with all options available. The roast lunches were excellent, potatoes, parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, vegetables - carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage and extra side of cauliflower cheese. Asked for more gravy which arrived hot. Desserts also very good, lovely atmosphere, warm and cosy on a wet Sunday. We will be back again soon.

This pub/restaurant is in the village of Michaelston-y-Fedw, a beautiful part of S.E.Wales. It is well signposted from Castleton. Lanes are a little bit narrow so keep your speed down as you approach. Very large car park in front of the pub and there are about 10/12 tables and umbrellas outside. We went for Sunday lunch-good idea to book in advance. We had a lovely welcome and it was great to be in a British pub which didnt turn dogs away. Our Westie was greeted with a biscuit! They played my sort of music so I was happy with that. Lunch was very good and they cater properly for Vegetarians and vegans. I get fed up of being offered goats cheese tart whilst everyone else has a traditional Sunday roast. Here I had a proper veggie lunch with Yorkshires, gravy and roast potatoes. There was a good choice of meals but but not so many as to make you wonder if everything was bought in and warmed up. The waiters were pleasant and attentive. The wine menu was extensive but not too expensive. On a dry day there is a pretty little church to visit next door. Thank-you for a lovely lunch and we wish we lived closer. Go without hesitation

Long review … We are as a group of 7 here on Saturday. I can see one of our party members has already wrote a review. To which a reply was made falsely accusing us of not paying for drinks and lying about food and service! Firstly I was the person who booked the table for 7. Never was I advised that a chair would be placed on the end and we would be squished in. Never mind because only 6 of us ended up attending. Secondly it was quiet when we first arrived and still we had to ask the bar staff if they could take our order as we were ready. Two members of our party did complain as they were in fact served gravy and not peppercorn sauce! (We all tasted it, no doubt in our minds it was in fact gravy). To add a positive Me and my husband shared a Chateaubriand which we both said it was lovely, along with another party member ordering a pie which was also complimented on. Every other party member left half their plates and had issues. Thirdly a service charge was added which we all in fact stated we wasn’t happy with it and we was advised that this as well as the saves will be taken off the bill. Sauces was taken off but service charge was still on there and we didn’t notice until after it was paid! We paid individually as couples so three payment, we ended up paying almost £50 in service charge!! As for the reply where you said drinks wasn’t paid for this is in fact untrue as we each went through the bills with the manager Ben, I think an extra soda a lime had been added on which we in-fact noticed the mistake and updated them it was actually a wine. Lastly since our meal on Saturday 6 out of the 7 of us have had upset stomachs. We used to really enjoy food here as it was classed as a treat but unfortunately it’s no longer what it used to be. Disappointed with both our experience Saturday night and further the response to our last review

From walking taken to a taken right dwn in corner out of way next too beer garden door way, door open we had a chair chucked on end of the table lucky our friend didn't come as would of been right in open door way with ppl coming in and out with dogs... And rest of place was basically empty so wasn't fitting us in... The food wasn't the great at all.. Ask for peppercorn sauce and was given gravy... Instead which was supposed be peppercorn chips were to us from chip shop... Fillet, T bone were less then enjoyable over half plates left... Had to ask for service, and then had damn nerve to charge 35.70 service charge which is optional we said NO due to lack of happiness there and still. Charged us furious NEVER AGAIN

We walked into an empty pub on a week night ready to order dinner, to be turned away because they said they couldn’t fit a pram in - there were empty tables everywhere, no one sat down and plenty of room for a pram. They said they don’t allow children under 10, my sleeping 4 month old baby (who wasn’t going to eat anything!) wasn’t allowed in and we were literally turned away. I can see why it was empty now!!! It's a destination / occasion food establishment. As long as you understand there's no kids menu / they don't want children running round it's no problem. If you want to go to a beautiful traditional pub with great food for an occasion, this is the place for you. The landlords are traditional/ experienced. We had home made chips, mushrooms, tomato and pepper sauce. The steaks had come from the local butchers so they were really fresh. The service was good but the waitress could have opened the wine when she put the bottle on the table. Not what did I aspected... they advertise them self to be fine dining restaurant/pub. It's a simple village pub. Dresses nice me and my wife for the occasion, we felt embarrassed once we entered into the "restaurant." There was no atmosphere, and the staff was not really welcoming. There is no drinks menu, but just a wine list. Placed our order for food and wine. My wine was really awful, and i had to reach the Waitress attention several times before to get a better glass of wine. Our starter arrived, and it was a Mediterranean sharing platter for £18. It was nice but very limited amount of cured meat ( considering that it was to share) and filled of a ridiculous amount of bread just to fill the platter up. Mains arrived, and luckily, the quality of meat was great. I'm just a little disappointed about my t-bone that I wanted blue, but I've been told by the Waitress that for safety, the chef suggests it medium rare being a big steak on the bone. It never happened before 🤷♂️. A massive and useless amount of chips that they kept falling from the plate when I was cutting my meat, I had to ask for a side plate to move all these chips. The dessert menu was offered, but the only one thing that I liked was out of stock. We paid the bill and left. In the end I will never turn back here not for the quality of food, not for the not attentive service, but because they wish to be fine dining but for sure, they never saw really one in them lifes. All the nice reviews that have gotten this place come probably from the locals that probably enjoy some pints in this pub! Thank you

Saturday 19th August Lamb shank was full of flavour and fresh vegetables were also tasty. I couldn't resist the fillet steak again and just as perfect as long time, swapped chips for broccoli and pleased with my choice. The Eton Mess and Apple pie desserts were delicious and chased perfectly by liquor coffees. Thanks to Ben and his team for their welcome and great service. February - Another great meal - fillet steak was perfect and Black and Blue burger very tasty. Both meals came with twice cooked chips and other trimmings that were spot on. This week's cheese cake was caramel and finished the meal off very nicely. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, thank you

We love this restaurant. We eat out a lot and have tried all of the restaurants in Cardiff and we come here again and again. The food is exceptional and always presented to a super high standard and consistently delicious. Ben and Caroline are amazing hosts, are always there to welcome guests as well as the star of the show 'Ralph' their gorgeous dog. There is a great friendly vibe with dogs made welcome. We would so definitely recommend this as the first place to go.

My husband and I dined here on both Saturday and Sunday evening whilst on a weekend break. A true fine dining restaurant with high quality ingredients and exceptional standard of cooking. When you arrive you are given a warm, friendly greeting and the restaurant is dog friendly too! We highly recommend!

We have been to Cefn Mably twice before for a Sunday lunch and it was delicious, so we thought we’d try it out for a weekday lunch meal. Service was very friendly and attentive, staff were great. As for the food, you couldn’t fault the food. The steak and ale pie was super aley with big chunks of steak, it came with chips which are homemade! Someone else had the black and blue burger which was different but again, really tasty and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Curry was also superb. We all left the pub full and almost needing to explode. All reasonably priced too, including drinks, considering these days’ prices. About £20 per head for meal and drink each, which we thought was very good. Would come here over and over again!

Staying locally at Cefn Mably Lakes and found this gem. Ate here several times during our weeks stay and each meal was excellent. Extremely friendly, welcoming staff and a lovely atmosphere. Landlord even took the time to chat with us for 15 minutes on our final night. Highly recommend and hopefully will be returning next year

Great looking pub both inside and out. Lovely atmosphere and good Sunday lunch. However, the price of drinks was far too high (£10 for a 250ml glass of chardonnay) so I probably won't go again.

Angie and the team were so friendly and kind. 💖 The "super" [huge] vegan breakfast was top-notch too Bring cash if possible! Paid for my drink with card, but I got cash out when I returned for food. Well worth breaking habit for such a nice place + people.
