The Pot Cafe in Newport

My son took me here for breakfast after raving about the place. I'd read 5 star reviews and people claims of it being the best breakfast in Newport. Have these people eaten anywhere else? I found the breakfast to be very standard, mostly overcooked aymnd certainly not cheap. The worst thing was that it was very stuffy and you'll leave with your clothes smelling like you'd worked an 8 hour shift. There's far better in the Port.

This is the best home cooked food in Newport. We need more of this

My daughter and myself had a lovely welcome on a cold and raining day.The breakfast we had was lovely, hot tasty and plenty of it.Also great to hear the ladies singing along to radio.🤗 would definitely go back.

Not knowing Newport in the slightest, we picked this place at random based on trip advisor reviews, for a pre-football match fry up on a Saturday morning in early February There was a shock on arrival of finding out that this place ONLY takes cash (it’s 2024……. Who only takes cash payments these days?) luckily one of us had sufficient cash for us not to have to go find elsewhere. The decor was interesting - lots of rock and pop memorabilia on the walls, including a whole wall dedicated to David Bowie. The welcome was good and friendly and I chose to ignore the “political statement” the owners are making by the huge Palestinian flag hanging in the window. Fry ups and politics aren’t generally good mixers. The service was excellent and the fry up of choice didn’t disappoint - lots of it and good value for money. The only tiny moan I would have is that an assumption was made when I asked for coffee, that I wanted milk in it. Guess they are saving on providing milk in little jugs…. The place, which was relatively quiet when we arrived at 9.45am, was soon packed to the rafters - which is always a good sign. Mostly locals as well. The food was extremely competitively priced, served with lightning speed and with a friendly smile. Which pretty much made my tiny little moans totally insignificant. Thoroughly recommended

Brilliant veggie breakfast!! Really busy little cafe in Newport arcade. Loads of tradition options on their menu, including veggie and vegan. Portions are really big too! The lady cooking, I guess she is the owner, knows everyone by name, and their orders, when they walk in and obviously enjoys what she does (you can hear her singing along to the radio 😊)

Terrible experience, which is such a shame as we love to support local and independent businesses. The owner and staff had extremely poor attitude when we asked how long our food would be after waiting 30min. This was only because our car parking was going to run out, but we see this as a lucky escape as the place is grimy and unwelcoming. Our table was unclean and sticky, making it uncomfortable, and our coffee mugs were dirty. Have a look at the other negative reviews and the bad responses from the owner and make your own mind up before giving this place a visit. There are plenty of other lovely places in Newport.

I come in here a lot and the staff are always friendly and chatty, the food is great, prices are really affordable and they never burn the toast 🙂 they've also got a lot of vegetarian and vegan options

I cant praise this place enough, we popped in on a whim as we were bored of the usual generic lunch choices and fancied warm, home cooked food. The Pot didnt dissapoint !! Home made leek and potato soup for all of my family and a fresh brown roll, AMAZING !! The staff were helpful, patient and great fun. I cant say enough good, a gem in the Newport Arcade and a super Independent Cafe, please support these guys so we dont lose them. Will see you soon.

Excellent service and food. The lady running the cafe, was friendly and helpful. It was very clean. Food was very good, we had breakfast here and was very good value for money.

Good music and friendly staff....but breakfast was really not great.

We were looking for a breakfast while we were waiting to go to an appointment in Newport we thought we’d found a lovely place to eat so we went in and ordered hot drinks were brought promptly then the wait began at least 30 minutes we were running out of time ( people who’d came in after us were getting there food) so we asked if ours was gonna be much longer as we were running out of time we were told there was a futher wait so we decided to cancel the order as we we’re paying I mentioned this to the lady she said I was wrong and as we were leaving the lady that was cooking the food sarcastically shout bye then absolutely shocking customer service was very disappointed with our visit

Very rude staff.very slow waiting time for food poor.dont understand how they have 5 star reviews. We certainly didn't experience this.will not becgoing back.

Absolutely brilliant atmosphere,really busy.. but still very attentive. Excellent food, friendly staff .. will definitely come back again.. also excellent value for money as I couldn't finish my breakfast 😂🙌🏻They offered a eco friendly bag to take away if I wished..which was a nice touch ..⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Visited the pot cafe with my partner & my dog, I think the dog was welcomed more than us humans 🤣 (joke). The pot is very dog friendly, staff was so lovely & happy on arrival , its so refreshing to be welcomed like that 🥰 The theme of the place is so so cool, food was amazing, I went for a sausage sandwich and my partner had the big one (which looked incredible 😍) & Milo our little dog had a sausage😀 . Cleanliness was on point, tables was lovely and clean, toilets was pleasant and smelt floral. Service was was relatively quick and staff was very attentive. Both of the ladies was cooking, serving and cleaning as they go, which was great to see, they have a fab system which clearly works and I feel should be implemented by a lot of other businesses in the area ! Myself and my partner left the establishment feeling happy, full & wholesome. What a lovely place with even lovelier people we will most definitely be back.

Owner was quite rude on arrival. Not very welcoming. Shame because the food was outstanding. Then used the toilet before I left and found rat droppings around the toilets

Great breakfast here, especially if you're in the mood for a full English.

What a fabulous cafe! Upon entering was greeted by the friendly lady serving, the cafe decor is cool with different artists and bands on the walls in frames like David Bowie, great atmosphere was very comfortable. The two women serving seem happy to be there and was nice to see that. Genuine good customer service. I had the regular breakfast and my husband had a breakfast bun. The food was spot on great 👍 prices very good too. Will be back again and would recommend to others

I've been going here for around 15 years. Never disappoints

A fabulous local cafe, all home cooked and fresh. The wait is a little longer but so worth it for good fresh food. We meet up with friends here. And will again soon.

Popped in for breakfast. Staff very friendly and breakfast was ok, what let it down for me was the sausages. Everything else was good, the bacon was perfect!

The Pot is a very well known and long established café in Newport Arcade (not the newly refurbished Market Arcade but the other Victorian arcade nearby, linking High Street with Cambrian Road). The café has table service and it's possible to sit inside the restaurant or outside it under cover of the arcade which is what we did. For a long time I'd looked forward to paying a visit in order to try one of the vegan breakfasts having seen them recommended and I was glad to have finally got around to doing so. The breakfast I've attached a picture of is the 'Super Vegan' which is a meal for those with larger appetites but there is also a smaller 'Regular Vegan' version. Breakfasts at The Pot include tea or coffee which, for vegans, come with a choice of oat, almond or soya milk. The breakfast was full of flavour, was very satisfying and the service, in pleasant surroundings, was friendly and efficient. 

I used to come here 10 years ago, every morning for a big breakfast when I lived in Newport. In the whole time since, I've never found a better breakfast anywhere else. I always compare them to The Pot. The portions are huge, tasty and great value. I got the train back today just so I could pop in. I'm now veggie, but the veggie breakfasts are just as good as they always used to be. A huge breakfast is £8 and comes with tea or coffee. The staff are friendly and food arrives quickly. Thank you so much for another great breakfast 😊

Very good breakfast friendly staff

Not been before and needed a place for a quick lunch during a working lunch hour. Chose this over Wetherspoon's which is nearby, on a chance, and glad I did. Quirky cafe tucked away in the parade, snug, with wooden tables and chairs. Visited in Halloween week, and place was decorated, clearly effort goes into presentation. Interesting mix between a greasy spoon cafe (lots of breakfast options) and hot classic meals e.g. chilli, sausages, pies etc which I wasn't expecting. Service was friendly and food was good. Not expensive either. Would chose this again if in the area.

Quite possibly one of the best cafés I have ever been to. The staff were absolutely lovely and accommodating towards us (we are a family of six) and the food we were served was excellent. Will definitely be returning if ever possible.

Started off good nice friendly welcome, but the sausages wasn't great, and then got shaken the tip jar as I was paying. The other staff telling us she wasn't taking to us in a snappy way, little rude

Thought we'd support an independent cafe, so went in for a coffee, but it wasn't very nice.

Visited with family for a breakfast. Staff are great, accommodating and friendly. Veggie breakfast is good with excellent veggie sausages and black pudding. Non-veggie breakfast was also enjoyed. Will come back again. And again.

Very nice breakfast and portions were good. The coffee was exceptionally hot and took 15 minutesto cool. Next time I will ask for it a little cooler.

5 min walk to train station. Good coffee. Excellent breakfast. Funny staff. Recommended.

Great place to visit, the people are really friendly and the food is good also it is very clean. The food and experience i had was perfect. If I was going to critique anything I would suggest a fresh update of the shop In regards of the paint work needs freshening up to make it look more inviting this would attract more customers.

Looks nice but they were closing an hour and a half before advertised time. Next time perhaps.

Average breakfast at best , poor customer service , got told I was sad and get a life for taking picture of my food . Not very hygienic having a dog roaming round when serving food . Won't be going back

I loved our recent visit to The Pot Cafe. The food is great and Angela and Kate are the kind of staff which created the great ambience. I also loved the music banter with Angela!

We were passing through Newport and stopped off here. What a gem of a place. Kate and Angela are wonderful at hosting customers in this quirky café. Good quality value for money breakfast.

Hidden gem. Friendly staff, who take pride in their job and ensuring all their customers' needs are met. Good food, generous portions at reasonable prices. To improve, more accessible toilets would be good as the toilets are not accessible for people with wheelchairs, pushchairs etc.
