The best restaurants in Torfaen South Wales

Me and my husband sat at an empty table, we waited around 10 mins for anyone to approach us to take our order. I found the lady to be quite rude and abrupt and made us feel like an inconvenience to her. We ordered 2 breakfasts and 2 teas. If only I knew the wait to be served would be the start of the waiting around. It took about 15 minutes for our teas to arrive and about half hour for our food to arrive. I would like to say it was due to the cafe being really busy but there was only one other table seated. I could hear who I presume is the manager talking to other staff members about someone they work with, the things they were saying were quite honestly awful and things that paying customers should have to hear. Our food eventually arrived, it was mediocre at best. Overall the service was poor, the atmosphere quite honestly awful, and the food ok at best. Would not be returning or would not recommend to anyone else.

I visited Greggs in Pontypool this morning of the 8 people queuing 3 people were not wearing masks, at no point did Greggs employees question this, they were just served. The wearing of masks is still mandatory in Wales in public places !!!!

Dirty tables,dirty floor,dirty toilet.Such a shame as it's newly opened with attractive decor and furnishings.With so many cafes in Cwmbran they need to up their game.

The food was amazing and great service the staff was kind helpful and the food came quickly and it was lovely the price of the food was also very affordable and great to go with family and friends for breakfast lunch or even dinner

We called here on way back from abergavenny, ordering teas and cake, The tea was not very hot, and as for the sponge was not fresh at all. The veranda was open but we chose to sit inside. This was during lunch time and there were a number of vacant tables.

Food was foul, not nice Chinese food at all, never again

Kebab was stone cold and gave me the runs all the next day, absolutely revolting.

Popped in for our evening meal on spec. The pub was quite busy on a Tuesday evening but we were able to get a table. We took our well behaved dog who was a good boy. I had a mixed grill and my wife had a curry. We took advantage of a 30% off voucher. The meals were very good and we were both very happy with the evening. Although I thought the mixed grill very good I have to say the sausages seemed odd. I thought they might be vegetarian sausages but definitely below the standard of the rest of the mixed grill. I still enjoyed the meal and would buy it again. ( Hoping they get another sausage supplier :) ) The staff, Poppy and Meg looked after us very well and were very nice. All in all a very pleasant experience.

We had a fantastic experience at the Three Blackbirds — from the moment we walked in, the service was warm and attentive. The atmosphere is charming and welcoming, and the staff made us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious — hearty, well-prepared, and full of flavor. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the cooking and the customer experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great meal in a relaxed pub setting. We’ll definitely be back!

We went to the crows nest on Saturday 19th April 2025 For my sister 70th birthday with family and friends, the meals we ordered was very well presented, the drinks was lovely to, we even had desserts cause the food was so nice, they had a band in the night so we all decided today stay, we had a fantastic time ,if anyone is looking to take family and friends outside for food I would definitely recommend the crows nest Cwmbran Llanyravon. called Emily if that is her name, she is always at the bar she has dark hair in a ponytail, when I go to the crows nest this girl is normally the one who always serve me, and I have to say, she is a credit to your staff she is really helpful always, but I have to say all your staff are really lovely they always go out of there way to make you feel welcome, that is why I love coming to the crows nest with family and friends cause it's such a fantastic atmosphere every time we have gone there, I would like to say thank you so much for having us, thankyou for making my family feel welcome, we will definitely be back, your staff deserve recognition and the Manager is really lovely as well thankyou so much everyone for your kind hospitality.

Early breakfast on Saturday, the pub was relatively quiet, but service was good, and food was nice, bit of a que for the coffee machine.

We come here often. It’s always hit and miss as to the food and service you seem to recieve. I feel that to much time and effort is spent serving takeaway customers, than people sitting down to eat (and paying nearly double may I add). Expensive for fish and chips, and sometimes quite dirty if staff are busy.

Expensive prices and cheap ingredients. Nearly 30 pounds for 2 breakfasts and a coffee and tea. The service was ok expect the waiter dropping the butter into my egg on serving with no apology, the breakfast was not worth the money. Firstly the standard breakfast you cannot have half and half with beans and toms you have to pay 1.50 extra per item. The beans used are the cheapest beans you can purchase just taste watery. Black pudding was tiny and the sausages were quite greesy. Cappuccino was not the best. Although it was all cooked well. Would avoid and go to Owens which is much better and cheaper.

went for a late night snack on my way home,never been there before,although i live local,i was starving,had chicken balls and sweet and sour sauce,the sauce was ok,but the so called chicken balls where awful,they were not balls they were like strips i couldnt find the chicken for the batter,the batter was so thick and greasy when you bit into them it was really bad,i landed up feeding them to my dogs,for the price they were bad,never go there again,i usually buy from out of town.

Fantastic place to eat. This place is so underrated. The food here is tastier than than mcdonalds, burger king and kfc put together.
