Three Blackbirds Inn in Torfaen

A group of us went for a set menu lunch,we were showed to our table,no contact with staff until they brought the starter,long wait until collection of plates,then main course arrived not nice at all, salmon dry around the edges veg over cooked and wilthed potatoes tasted like instant,no atmosphere at all never mind Xmas themed, plates collected after anther long wait, dessert came well never seen a long thin flat piece of Xmas pudding before.! Will not be returning there sorry to say.

Just back from a lovely family meal at Three Blackbirds. We were a party of 12 and had pre ordered our meals from the three course festive menu. The food was very good and extremely good value for money. The staff were really lovely and very considerate ensuring that the children had appropriate cutlery. The food was piping hot. I would highly recommend this restaurant on any day of the year but this festive experience was wonderful. Many thanks to Rob and every member of the team.

This was without a doubt the worst, chewiest, gristly piece of meat I have ever had. The Blackbirds called it sirloin steak. I will not be going back.

Love the old feel of this place even though it’s recently had a remodel. Perfect place for lunch. Nice big carpark, all in all an absolute treat of a pub!

We were out for the day and found by chance this lovely pub . Manager Rob I believe was so friendly and funny. We had the fish and chips and they were cooked beautifully and so reasonable. Will definitely return when in the area

What a lovely little pub. Lots to choose on the menu, and a good choice of lagers and beers. Had some hot snacks after a long dog walk. Highly recommended

Went for food and drinks with my partner, food was amazing, my partner had carvery which was hot and plentiful, I had the sirloin medium rare, which was cooked to perfection, had it on a plate as I don't like the skillets that keep cooking the steak. Service was excellent and quick even though they were busy.

Lovely setting and polite staff. Sunday lunch time so very busy. The Sunday carvery was excellent and the mixed grill good but the loaded surf and turf was a real diapointment very few prawns than didn’t taste garlic at all and I couldn’t eat the steak it was so chewy.. served on a sizzling plate but the onions were raw.. for the price I would not recommend that dish at all. Desserts were good. Overall good but I would only recommend the carvery on a Sunday as it seemed like that was what the chef was focused on. I will go again but Sunday carvery only

We were made to feel welcome. The staff were exceptional and nothing was to much trouble for them. The food was beautiful and the prices were excellent. Would highly recommend them 😁

Nice pub although on this occasion it was overrun with dogs. The pub also had a damp dog smell. I love dogs but don't agree with them being allowed when people are eating. One particular owner was allowing his big dog to just roam freely. Food tasty buy barely warm. Had to chase up side orders. No jacket potatoes, no pineapple. The place is clearly understaffed. No-one asked if everything was ok. I would give this place another go in the future.

Previously, I've been critical of the Three Blackbirds. I live near the pub and whilst the food is usually pretty good the draught beer was not. Tonight was a very pleasant contrast. They had two draught beers on tap; the ubiquitous Doombar, and Butcombe bitter. I had a pint of the Butcombe and it was superb; wonderfully fresh and creamy, and served cool - just and antidote after a brisk walk along the canal. I may have to pop in again.

Very nice pub! Carvery is really good value for money! Staff were really helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. Would definitely recommend.

Haven’t been here for many years. So, with a prompt from a family member booked for 8 people..including our Granddaughter.The house sharing platter was great. Something that everybody liked and plenty to go round.Mains...what can I say...each portion is huge. I couldn’t finish the double gammon ( really well presented). The hunters chicken was massive and the small portion of fish and chips could have fed 2 people.All in all a really nice relaxed evening, good beers available at the bar. Very keenly priced. We visit whenever my wife and I journey down to see her Aunt and Uncle. Over time the food had improved to the credit of the manager and staff. Always pleasant and good value. This time, mid-December, they were busy. I hope that explained our less than satisfactory experience and that January will return to normal.The gammon was very salty and the half of a chicken that I had was so dryed out that I struggled to cut it with the table knife. I should have asked for a steak knife rather the struggle on shredding it. The next table had already sent back two of their meals. I didn't bother as I would have ended up eating mine when everyone else had finished. A shame as I mentioned above that the food had improved over the years that we had been visiting, the latest management having made the greatest improvements.

Fabulous reasonably priced food, nice atmosphere, lovely staff, love going there every week. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff to make your visit enjoyable. It has just had a refurbish and looks really lovely and homely.

Went here one afternoon for my mother’s birthday as we wanted to try it as it had been recommended to us by multiple people. We weren’t disappointed.

Visit regularly for Sunday lunch off the the menu, service is always good, food likewise. Had a carvery here about 4 years ago but was disappointed, all cooked well but cold, swore I wouldn't have another, decided to try again as 4 years has passed but once again same problem, nice food but cold. Pity really, off the menu no problems whatsoever, carvery never again.

Went for a family birthday meal, best services I've ever had. Staff were welcoming and made us feel at home. Pub is an old style, spoke to the manager and been told about a refurb coming soon. Will definitely be going back to see it around christmas. Outstanding services, and food. Well done

Visited tonight with family. No baby changing facilities. My sister was told to change her 4 week old baby on the pool table because “no one was in there”. 3 out of 7 meals arrived first and were burnt. Had to ask for the other meals to be brought out and were told that they were just being plated up. Meals arrived 20 minutes later. Kids mash was stone cold and burger, bun and garlic bread were all burnt to the point it was inedible. Manager was rude when spoken to regarding time on food and the fact that it was burnt. Nothing but excuses provided. Food was finally replaced another 20 minutes later which resorted in 1 person eating on their own. Ended the night with one of the bar staff bring over a refund for the burger and just saying the manager said sorry about the burger.

This is a lovely little pub. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming all the staff are very friendly. The food was delicious, generous portions and excellent value for money on both food and drinks. Will definitely return next time we visit wales.

Visited for Sunday Lunch 3 times over the last few months , food is bland and the service is mediocre at best.

I used to work up the road and we all came for every occiason and with family... Moved back and what a difference, grubby with a matted carpet with hair trod in and a iffy smell... Ordered 2 fish and chips and a gammon, but had a parade of other dishes brought to table before ours all came seperatly because eating in relay is what you want... Sadly not what it was and won't be back

Visited for a family meal. Good choice of food on the menu to suit everyone. Only thing we weren’t keen on was the ‘hot sizzle’ plates that some of the meals were served on, would rather normal plates. Service was good. Would return.

Has always, well mostly, been a fairly decent pub with competitively priced food but those days are gone, just microwave technicians now and can't even cook or present a piece of cheesy garlic bread successfully, seems run down and not long for this world, if it was your pet you'd put it down.

Front beer garden is a mess! Every bench is rotted and falling apart.. most slabs have cracked and come apart....complete disregard for public safety

we occasionally frequent this venue but today was our last. I’m used to bits floating in my Stella and flat pints however today our pints had bits floating in them and were sour.

Ordered Nachos to share as a starter to nibble over a drink before our main meal; one of party wanted a starter as a main so they brought all of the food at the same time! Nachos were really greasy but didn’t want to eat them with fish & chips so a total waste of money.
