Don’t be fooled by the photos - yes, it’s a beautiful and historic building but that’s the only positive I can find to write about, and that’s just the outside of it. Describing itself as a ‘lively’ pub is accurate, but sadly for the wrong reasons, unless of course you want to party the night away. With disco music blasting out until 4am (live music ended at 11pm), someone then banging drunkenly on our door and a WC shredder shuddering every 15 minutes, it was the worst night I’ve ever spent in a hotel. A very disappointing way to end a lovely day’s walking along the Wye from Tintern. To describe the rooms as refurbished is seriously misleading. What is also misleading (or complete misinformation) is being told by the manager he’ll be up to give you breakfast - no sign of anyone anywhere. Just comments in the bookings diary from a few other similarly disgruntled customers asking for a full refund. Additional misinformation on the website is that a full English breakfast is included and that all rooms have power showers and flat screen TVs. Kicking ourselves that we didn’t read the reviews before booking. Don’t make the same mistake as us.

Popped in a couple of times during our weekend visit to Monmouth. Nice friendly pub. Clean. Would definitely use again.

Four of us had lunch at the Punch House, three Hog Roast deli sandwiches and one fish finger (goujons) deli sandwich, all served with a generous amount of chips, and four teas all for under £40. Barman and waitress were friendly and helpful, the food delicious and we enjoyed the atmosphere of this old building. Happily recommend

Great Chinese takeaway. Order the hot and sour soup, not knowing that it had meat in, but the woman serving noticed that all dishes I ordered were vegetarian and told me and then supplied a vegetarian version. Had mushroom chow mien and Szechuan style Quorn. Both were fantastic. My only criticism is a personal taste thing. Would prefer more mushroom or vegetable options instead of Quorn chicken on the menu as not the biggest fan of it, but I'm sure they would provide dishes without the Quorn if asked so will try that next time. Couldn't fault on quality, price or service.

Rather annoying since the new owners have taken over . I have always chosen here but there is very much a communication issue , every week , always something wrong with order . Tonight again . Very simple , no peas in curry lots of onions . 20 minutes home , all peas no onions ! So annoying . Shame but will more than likely go elsewhere in future .

Perfect meals all round (4 adults) very polite happy staff great service and the food was piping hot and delicious. Even my elderly parents couldn’t complain which doesn’t happen often. Big car park within easy walking distance one tiny step into shop then all one level into restaurant and very clean toilets on site to

I recommend this place to colleagues following a site visit nearby, having been previously for drinks. When we arrived at 11.30 there were several tables reserved, so the waitress showed me to a table. At this point there was only 1 other person in the cafe. We ordered breakfast comprising of 2 full English, 2 eggs Benedict and a sausage and mushroom sandwich, together with hot drinks. The drinks arrived after about 10 minutes and then we waited. The other reserved tables also started to fill, and these took priority over everything else. After 30 minutes I asked how much longer and the waitress advised ‘not too long’, so we ordered another round of teas and coffee. Still no sign of the food, but the other tables were being served. Eventually at 12.40 ( 1 hour 10 minutes later) out came breakfast. Mine was a bacon sandwich- which I didn’t order and the others all just warm . The miserable lady said I could have the bacon sandwich FOC which I declined. If I wanted a bacon sandwich I would have ordered one. I had no time to wait for my sandwich to be cooked so left without eating. The others eat their Luke warm dishes. We were all stunned that no apology was given , apparently we should have been advised of the hour wait. Naturally had this happened we would have gone elsewhere. In other words our own fault My recommendation is to avoid this place - I also recommend the miserable woman learns how to look after her customers by simply saying “sorry that the wait is longer than expected, please have a refill on your drinks . The waitress at the front desk however was very nice, although she failed to tell us about the delay.

Felt like our local Waitrose could do with some praise as all of us locals go there but don’t seem to leave feedback. I love this cafe for a coffee & quick rest. I have ended up stranded here a couple of times with a migraine and the staff are brilliant. So many older people go here knowing it’s friendly, warm & nice coffee. It’s not just a cafe it’s a social service! Well done 🙂
