Don’t be fooled by the photos - yes, it’s a beautiful and historic building but that’s the only positive I can find to write about, and that’s just the outside of it. Describing itself as a ‘lively’ pub is accurate, but sadly for the wrong reasons, unless of course you want to party the night away. With disco music blasting out until 4am (live music ended at 11pm), someone then banging drunkenly on our door and a WC shredder shuddering every 15 minutes, it was the worst night I’ve ever spent in a hotel. A very disappointing way to end a lovely day’s walking along the Wye from Tintern. To describe the rooms as refurbished is seriously misleading. What is also misleading (or complete misinformation) is being told by the manager he’ll be up to give you breakfast - no sign of anyone anywhere. Just comments in the bookings diary from a few other similarly disgruntled customers asking for a full refund. Additional misinformation on the website is that a full English breakfast is included and that all rooms have power showers and flat screen TVs. Kicking ourselves that we didn’t read the reviews before booking. Don’t make the same mistake as us.

Stayed last night (3 Nov 23). This is awful and I recommend you avoid this. Not as described, we were told bar would close at 11 but loud music kept us awake until 0400hrs, the room was ok but shower dripping through the night along with the toilet ‘shredder’ kept going every 25mins. I wanted to raise this with the bar manager in the morning but no one was around and number provided was not answered. Very poor night sleep and, in my view this place should be avoided.

Note: Please disregard reviews from previous people, this is UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. The worst night stay I have ever had in a hotel. The landlord held a disco that blared out until midnight shaking the beds (despite being told it would finish between 11-11:30). This is obviously a regular occurrence as we heard the DJ saying he would be back next week. Then the landlord proceeded to have a party with his friends loudly shouting under our room with music until 4am. When we went down multiple times to ask him to be quiet, his friends were intimidating and rude whilst he sat in silence giggling. This morning when I went to get a refund he was nowhere to be seen (and didn’t answer the phone). Not only was this horrendous but the first room we were shown had no working light, toilet or shower and unlike advertised there is no breakfast on offer.

Spent 2 nights in the queens head inn, ideal location in Monmouth just a short walk from the high street, more than satisfied with our room, huge king size bed and a good shower. Staff and owner were more than accommodating and welcoming the moment we stepped in and helped and advised us with info on local sights to see, places to eat etc. for what we paid it was well worth it. Met friendly locals down in the bar Friday and Saturday, great vibes and good energy. If you’re heading to Monmouth, the Queens head inn is where you should be laying your hat, you won’t be disappointed. We’ll definitely be returning!

Was advertised as fully refurbished, pictures looked nice, but room 5 which conveniently isnt listed, is definitely not refurbished and is definitely a hazard and needs a refurb, Issues i had on my stay were Dirt, mould, stains on a variety of surfaces, Extractor fan duct taped on, the shower is unusable unless you are 3 feet tall, one window wasnt useable as was hanging by one hinge, radiator looks like its about to fall off the wall, the mouldy food at breakfast, I was going to complain on the night of the stay but went down stairs to pub area to find the owner screaming and swearing at another customer, so didnt feel like poking the bear. Was glad to leave

When we entered it was fairly empty with a band setting up for later that evening. The bar lady advised us on where to go for a curry and after we'd eaten we popped back to find the pub busy as the band were about to start. The landlord was very friendly and came over for a chat. The music was great and atmosphere really nice with a roaring fire to add to it. Definitely recommend visiting if you are ever in Monmouth!

Last minute room booking for a birthday celebration and we were pleasantly surprised with our cheap triple room. Comfortable beds and a great shower and a good breakfast. The pub/rooms could do with some TLC and I'm sure the owner could increase the room costs without a huge amount of investment. Funny to bump into an old school friend working there, it's a small world!!

The owner, Neil, is excellent and gives great recommendations about local nature hikes (highly recommend Symonds yat!), the local restaurants (Aslan's Fish & Chips is delish) and will tell you all about the history of the pub (which has good beers on too). If you're expecting a prim and boring hotel room don't stay here as it's not like that at all. Our room (no.4) was simple but clean, with comfy beds and a nice hot shower. Bit of noise from traffic and 'old building' noises (pipes etc) so if you're a super light sleeper maybe request not to stay in one of the front-facing rooms, it didn't bother me at all but can see how it might affect some people. Cooked breakfast was tasty and a good portion, coffee was freshly brewed and it was all served with smiles and chat. The pub has a fire in the evenings (in October anyway) and is so cosy after a day of walking in the rain! Highly recommend if you want somewhere with character.

We have stayed there for a night and we haven't a bad thing to say. The place is over 400 years old and full of history! We were warmly welcomed by mr. Neil who showed us to our room, he was in a very good mood and has kindly given us some useful information about the town. The room was cosy and clean, so was the bathroom. We really loved the earplugs we were given alongside the shampoo and soap. The place is lovely and has character, the only thing that is a bit of a downside is that the noise travels, when other guests walk up and down the steps and roam the hallways (but what do you expect in a house built nearly half a century ago) - ah, hence the earplugs! They are just a short walk away from the city centre which makes exploring the town even easier. Breakfast was lovely and made fresh to order. There was even choice of tea! The owner really cares about the guests and makes everyone feel welcome. He even indulged our four year old that showed him her toy and shared a quick story behind it. Lovely place and would defenitely recommend.
