The Kings Head Hotel - JD Wetherspoon in Monmouthshire

Had an unusual experience on this visit. My past visits here have been really good. On this occasion we visited at the end of breakfast time. I'm not sure why but on two of our three meals we were missing items. While one was corrected, the other wasn't. I'm hopeful this was a one off experience and it won't stop us visiting again.

The pub was nice, friendly staff.

Visited around 2PM on a very busy, very wet Good Friday. Lovely atmosphere with couples, families and groups, but did not feel hectic thanks to the different rooms in this very historical coaching inn. I loved seeing the plaster overmantel that dates from 1670! I was served promptly at the bar and when our food arrived shortly after it was hot and fresh. As always, excellent value at wetherspoons. Also, loos were spotless!

‘Manager’ of this place just refused entry to a pensioner with an assistance dog - where a sign outside says ‘assistance dogs are welcome’. The guy was rude, uncouth, and not very bright. What sort of people is this company putting in charge of their pubs? Absolute disgrace - he should be disciplined.

Room was very cold and we had toask for assistance to get the heat and also an extra cove for the bed. There was no hot water to the basin The small breakfssts were indeed very small, served on cold plates with almost cold baked beans, snotty egg, undercooked sausage and about 1/3 of a rasher of dried up bacon.

Took 2 excited kids for a pancake breakfast this morning, to be told there were no pancakes… strange as I’m pretty sure every kitchen in the country has the ingredients for pancakes. The chef came out and asked the bar woman what we’d ordered, and when she said pancakes, thinking he was out of earshot, he said “nah, can’t be arsed”. Great attitude eh! So we went elsewhere obviously, and will never be back. Great representative you have there, Tim!

If you like cold chips and cold mushy Peas wilt your hot fish then this is the place for you. This is the first time to return to Monmouth wetherspoons in 18 months due to a simular cold meal before. Thinking things may have improved we went again,only to find nothing has changed. 6pm today fish chips & mushy Peas. Don't bother

Bigger than I expected. Plenty of space. Massive tv for live sports. Set in an old building. Better menu choices than previous weatherspoons. Would visit again.

A great central location, right in the market square. The pub had z nice atmosphere, with plenty of space and little seating areas yo choose from. Standard Weatherspoons menu and prices. Staff were friendly and helpful, despite being very busy. Room was spacious with good tea and coffee facilities.

It took 20 minutes to get a drink when ordering through the app. The tables were left dirty the staff just walked past empty glasses and Dirty plates

First time in the Kings head in Monmouth, I was a regular at the Castle which closed unfortunately. But I was very impressed, huge building lots of seating and quite clean too. Great atmosphere and unbelievable drinks prices £1.99 for a pint of Doom bar!! Definitely going to be our new Friday watering hole. 👌👌👌👌

Lovely room. Had drinks in the bar and air conditioning on. I asked for it to be turned down/off but I don't think barman understood. Very cold.

Good food and drinks. Worth a visit. Excellent eggs Benedict. Did not stay overnight.

Great pub, great hotel. Really comfy bed and towel changes daily. Very impressed. Downside: Ran out of real ales and no breakfasts. Definitely go again though.

If you won't a quite stay then this isn't the hotel for you with doors banging, and bangingin from the room above and stomping up and down the corridors, but a great location to stop in Monmouth. As for our room it was the size of a shoe box but you have to say very clean

Luxury hotel based in the centre of Monmouth. Wetherspoons provides a variety of meals and drinks at very economic prices.

Nice breakfast and coffee yesterday

Our cousin stayed over for a couple of nights and was very impressed with the bedroom. Location is central and is a small walk to the large pay parking. The service is always good in all areas of the hotel.

This branch of Wetherspoons is really good for food - service is fast and the food is properly cooked and well presented. It's our favourite one!

Very Dark and Dingy! The tables were full of used plates with no one cleaning up. So decided to leave and have lunch elsewhere.

Have stayed here a number of times - great pub, lovely rooms and fantastic value. Not your typical WS - relaxed, clean and friendly

Lively food but wanted to rush out as the air-conditioning was on and made it feel really uncomfortably cold. Would have stayed longer and had dessert/more drinks if it wasn't so cold

(Restaurant only) Nice burger and chips. Also the service was great and in a beautiful location

Was really amazed at just how excellent the hotel was. Really spacious room, lovely big comfy bed. Beautifully clean. Tea and coffee tray with a really good selection of teas, coffee and hot chocolate. Right in the middle of town. Quiet overnight. It was a lovely night away to finish off our holiday. If all Wetherspoons hotels are like this I highly recommend them.

Great pub! Excellent food, friendly staff, great atmosphere and hotel rooms are very spacious and all round good value for money. 10/10 would recommend.

This is just a review of my room, I didn't spend any time in the bar. The room was nice, clean, well equipped, very good price (a single). I had to leave earlyish, they provided free coffees in the bar... Made me think I should try other Wetherspoons hotels.

Typical Spoons, stopped for lunch, decent quality and good price.

We stayed for 2 days while visiting the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean. Our room was spacious and modern. The bed was comfortable and shower and bathroom was very clean. They had a lift to our room on the second floor. We ate breakfast and dinner here every day. I particularly love the Fiesta brunch and my husband liked the Freedom breakfast. The Kings Head is in the centre of Monmouth and near all the shops etc. There is a car park just around the corner which was cheap and you could pay on the Just Park app. We enjoyed our stay and found all the staff very friendly and helpful.

Tables could do with being cleaned between customers and not just cleared. While I v was there 3 tables left, 3 cleared, none cleaned. Food was good though.

We visited here whilst visiting Monmouth. The bar is comfortable and welcoming, as well as the outside areas. As always the drinks are fantastic value for money, fresh amd cold. The food here was great as well. We had a variety of meals of the menu and all met or exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend this place for your food and drink needs.

Food arrived quick and as always at a good standard. We didn't have a table number but they were still able to find us outside with our order. Prices are always great too. 🙂

Very well turned out (limited!) and patient Staff, I'm noticing that all Wetherspoons are relying on a minimum Staff who can't be everywhere at once. Not good.

Really handy for all of the surrounding areas, rooms are large and well appointed we used the double bed and double sofa bed and it was quite comfy. Decent rainfall shower and Room cleaned and re-stocked daily. Added advantage of the pub downstairs so food and drinks easily accessible. Lifts to all floors but some stairs after the lifts to some rooms, so if you struggle with stairs talk to reception.

Nice period features and great food and drink at great prices

A good Wetherspoons. Standard fare served hot and quickly. Very pleasant staff and extremely clean and tidy. Can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay at the hotel.

I only stayed for one night. Everything about the place was fine except the sash windows could not be opened and appeared to have been made permanently shut. Sadly and for that reason alone next time I shall stay somewhere else.

It is what it is for a Wetherspoons. Cheap cheerful food and drinks.

We always like to go the Kings Head for a meal. It is one of the top 5 Wetherspoons in the country for service and food.

Total waste of time and diesel.Despite advertising on a Dog friendly website it turned out to be not the case. The receptionist was abysmal Why anyone would employ someone as arrogant as him front of house is beyond me .Avoid

Food was delicious and well priced, staff friendly and helpful. One of the best spoons I have been to (puts my local one to shame).

We didn't stay so can't rate the rooms but the service and the food was typical Weatherspoons good value for money 😊

As usual with a Wetherspoons venue, it was cheap and cheerful with good meal deals but not so cheerful this time as my wife's meal was wrong when it was brought out. It took over 20 minutes to bring her replacement meal (it was only a matter of changing the potatoes with chips), by which time I had finished mine. We were recompensed with a refund for her meal and a free drink, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Up to Wetherspoons standards, good value good beer good food

For a visit to Monmouth (I was doing the Offas Dyke) walk, it is perfectly located in the centre. Room was spacious, clean, well appointed. You have the option of dining in the adjacent Wetherspoons, which is basic, cheap and cheerful. But plenty of other places to get food in the town. The rooms are in an adjacent building to the pub with its own check in area, which didn't seem to be always staffed, but the pub staff sort things out if needed.

Ordered drink via the app and after 10 minutes my other half collected the drinks from the bar. (They had just been poured and it wasn't busy). The next time I ordered it took 10 mins again to be delivered to the table.

When in Monmouth we pop in for breakfast all was good and hot not like some wetherspoons foods not that hot

Monmouth is a lovely market town. The hotel was ideally situated and the room was perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful. A couple of little qualms. Wifi is a little hit and miss. The air con in the bar was set too low for my liking, and I struggled to find a warm spot. One of the meals that was served was terrible. It looked like it had been scraped off another dish and the pasta was hard and melded together in places (photo). I had to send it back. The replacement was much better and all the other food and drink I had was fine.

It's hard to beat a Weather Spoons in terms of prices, drinks selection and convenience. This spoons also has a unique rustic charm with antique books shelves around the pub and little booth with tables to enjoy one's drinks. A great place for an evening out.

Prominent Monmouth Town Wetherspoons. Convienint roomy clean and comfortable with 1980s prices! Ideal for convenience stopping, for coffee, casual dining, or whatever takes your fancy

A magnificent building, with much history. Cozy areas and high ceilinged areas. Very friendly staff. This must be the best Wetherspoons there is!

Room was excellent but since we last used a Wetherspoon's although the food was not bad I think it's gone down hill and no Sunday Lunch!!!!!

Superb service and room. No complaints at all.

In the heart of the town centre, a lovely old building housing a wetherspoons pub. The building itself is gorgeous, inside not so much so, with far too many tables crammed together to maximise profit. Spoils the interior when you feel and are actually hemmed in. A wide range of beers and beverages on offer. Nice bar space. The food is pretty much bog standard for wetherspoons. It's hot and fills a snack size gap, not a hunger gap, as the portion sizes are very small! I had 6 chips on my plate, and it was supposed to be a standard size meal. The kids' meal on the next table had more chips than me! Still, it was somewhere to go when it got cold and damp, and the unlimited refillable coffee was a bonus.

Great place for a drink and food at a good price.

I have to say since Callum took on the management of the pub, the service has shown huge improvement. With people like Simon working there he always is excellent a real genuine nice chap. The cleanliness and hygiene has improved and all the staff are always helpful..thank you Callum and.the team

Between this and the green dragon one of my go to pubs in Monmouth. Nothing special but it fulfils its function satisfactorily.

It's a weatherspoons so it's all you'd expect. The bar space is good. Wide range of craft and world beers as well as a good stock of keg ales. Interesting building with lots of nooks and crannies to sit. Food service is prompt.

It's a very friendly place and it's a big place plenty of seating areas

My husband loves it because cheap. Food to me not so much.
