The Gate House in Monmouthshire

It's closed, all boarded up. The manager of our hotel tells us it has been like that for a couple of years.

Ate fish and chips. Too bad there is such a thick layer of breadcrumbs on it.

Very friendly and made us welcome on our first visit

We popped in for a coffee initially but had an all day breakfast in the end. The service was impeccable, the staff were lovely and the food was great!! We will definitely be back the next time we hit Monmouth!!

I was in Monmouth on the 12th to 14th of May 2022 and the Gate house was closed and had been for a while.

Been there before but at the moment closed

Great venue, lots of different areas to explore, right by the river and serves a full range of drinks including cocktails. Always friendly people in there.

Lovely quaint pub on the Monnow Bridge in Monmouth. Quite empty for a Saturday night, could do with some entertainment.

First time visit very welcoming. Enjoyed the time we were there.

Lovely welcoming experience. We did not book and they catered for 7 of us. Lovely home made food, friendly places great atmosphere. They waitress was so lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. Thank you for the great service!! We will be back

Great range of local ales and ciders, lovely atmosphere. Food is good here too. Recommended if you’re visiting Monmouth.

First visit today and will certainly be back , met friends for lunch had jacket potato it was a decent size and a nice crisp side salad with nice dressing. Girl behind bar was lovely ,friendly and nothing was too much trouble, Christmas dec were tasteful and made by her too. The only downside was coffee wasnt as strong as other Amercano I've had. Hence 4 stars

Amazing food, great for a group and their roast on a Sunday is such good value- £13.90 for two courses! Would definitely recommend.

Very sunny day and sat next to river what is better

Turned up for lunch with partner and puppy. We sat outside and it was lovely. Service was amazing, the food was lovely and 3 courses on a Sunday for £17.90 was a great price. We will be back for sure 😊

Brilliant pub had some lovely food and drinks here overlooking the river sat outside on the patio up high watching the world go by.. The meal was a little slow to come out but it was very busy and it was worth the Wait.... . Would recommend

Awesome pub, in fact one of the best in Monmouth. And with the Quiz night on Thursday a stack of fun. The outside seating has the best views of any pub in Monmouth (the Punch House is cool as well). Onna summers evening sitting over the river Monnow with the setting sun lighting up the Bridge is a joy.

Found this place by accident. Great pub eith a great water view. Fab for lunch in the summer. The pub also has lots of cats

We got there on a sunny Sunday afternoon and headed for the terraces to find there was a live band on and they were good too. Great atmosphere and a perfect Sunday afternoon by the river and bridge. Would have ha 5 stars but returned the next night to eat at 7:55pm to be told the kitchen closed at 8. Pity this isn't published on website etc. We presumed it would close at 9.

Friday night, good atmosphere but not enough bar staff. Left early as a 20 minute wait to be served was just too long

Poor survive, slow dirty glasses on all tables not very full went to order food told at least one hr wait only seen one table eating, NEED NEW MANAGEMENT MUST BE LOOSEING MONEY, could b takeing more with decent staff

Great little pub next to the river. You can eat your food outside watching the ducks go by. The food was delicious but your typical selection of drinks.

Order and pick up at the bar. Quite inefficient on a Saturday evening for those who don't rush forward. Fish & chips and the pie are good. The Pepsi completely watered down. This place was absolute perfection for me. The food was stunning across the board, couldn't fault it. The music was upbeat and inviting. The staff are really approachable and welcoming and have great hospitality. This is one pub & restaurant in South Wales you don't want to skip out on.

First time there, on my own, wanting to chill with a pint in their beer garden, looks nice, pretty, river view. Bought a pint. So I go to pay, the barlady tells me there is a £10 minimum spend on card. Fair enough, I apologise. She whips out a sign, hidden behind a bunch of stuff sitting there on the bar. Poured pint sitting there. Says I should go uptown to the cashpoint or buy more. Refuses to let me pay. Says 'Do you want it' then picks it up and walks off. No thanks I don't actually anymore anyway, and never again I think. There is nowhere with a min card spend now. Need to get with it dinosaurs will go extinct.

Lovely food. But Small portion size

Nice place, but poor menu. Saturday, Monmouth is very busy. As usual the upper outdoor seating area is chained off and so at before midday the available seating is full and so, many people including us, disappointed and walking away in amazement! Us and others wanting a drink and some lunch just going elsewhere. How much business have they turned away? Are they so well off they are not really bothered? Seems that way. We come here often so we will just go elsewhere as a matter of course.

Great place for the after work drink, especially Fridays; good end to the working week.

Lovely sunday lunch though wait was a bit lkng HOWEVER we were told of that when we went in so it wasnt an issue. Waitress was lovely and accomodating despite being rushed off her feet. Would recommend

Walked in, lay down, rolled about like a sausage, blew everyone a kiss, did a bow (japanese style) then skipped outside full of gay glee.

A little on the pricey side (although probably comparable with others) but on the whole a really nice place. Well worth a look.

It was delightful and the soup was very interesting and tasty. Would recommend it to anyone wanting something a little different. Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay there.

Good pub, great quiz every Thursday. Enjoyable background music and pleasant decor. Friendly staff and locals.

We called in for a drink only a shandy . Quiet when we arrive but as it Saturday night it soon got busy and noisy . Food looked nice but didn't see a menu so can't comment on price

A lovely pub! Great drinks and a lovely atmosphere and view. Although they have a minimum card charge which is sometimes inconvenient and I'm not sure if it's allowed anymore?!

No food being served (no chef) and only 1 beer on, sorry not very impressed
