We sat in the restaurant, it's clean , comfortable and warm. Ventilation prehaps isn't the best, so had the large folding doors into the garden not been open. I think it would have been a tad smelly ( past the normally chippy smell before someone says that ) The garden is great and has several tables with umbrellas in an enclosed area. Toilets are clean and well maintained. Food across the board looked good, I wasn't a fan of my haddock in beer batter so would choose something else next time like the scampi which a friend had and it was good or the chicken stripes which where great too. The staff here are absolutely brilliant so helpful and friendly we were a large group and they dealt with us well, it was also busy either other groups. One of the staff members' family members, maybe the daughter, was helping out and was so excited to be doing so and was doing a great job, well done to them. In all a great chippy and would recommend Thank you to all the staff on a hot and busy night

26th July 2024. DONT waste your money by taking chips away at 3pm Skins were hard and chips were white. Awful Chips. I ordered pie & chips and a curry sauce and chips..Never work the £9.45. On a plus..the birds liked the chips

As soon as I walked in my order was taken, one or two people waiting for the fish already in, so it was just a few minutes 😁 We had fish and chips, sausage and chips with the curry sauce, and we finished the lot 😋 the prices were reasonable and the portions were good, definitely will go back 😁

Excellent fish and chips, also, good homemade chilli. Finished of with a tasty apple and rhubarb crumble.

Come here the last few year.. Food excellent... Felt exited driving up from Bristol... Looking forward to buying fish and chips to eat out and look in beautiful views. Well so disappointed won't be going back.. Very small cod.. More batter than cod.. Chips mainly scrumps also brought to drinks £22.50...if they were as delicious as befor...price wouldn't off bothered me... Thanks for the disappointment 😕 Hope you sort it out.

Wow mobydick on a plate ,perfect fish crispy batter could'nt be better ,generous chips mushy peas ,wife ate jacket potato, lovely crisp salad, pot tea for 2 prox 19£ the lot very tasty enjoyed a fine meal quick service,we 1st in restaurant and in minutes was full of happy customers ,can't wait to go back .

Found this place by accident and so glad we did. Friendly ladies behind the counter, we had 3 mini fish and chip meals and wasn’t expecting 3 choices of curry sauce. Plenty of batter on the fish and who doesn’t enjoy some crispy batter bits thrown in with your chips. We travel a lot and got to be the best fish and chips we’ve had in a long time. DELICIOUS!! Good price too at least than £25 for 3 meals we were all satisfied with the serving. Thank you.

Food wasnt fresh. Unwelcoming staff. Processed food. Overly priced.

Got some fish and chips, jacket potatoes, cheesy chips and halloumi fries. Prices were reasonable and portions were really good. Quick service but the lady who served the food was a bit short on responses which felt unwelcoming. Probably because they were busy. Plenty of seating inside the shop or even just outside, there are benches to sit and enjoy your food to good views. You may have to share your food with the swans and ducks lurking around though. Definitely recommend it and might go back again.

Twice I have tried to get chips at this shop and the staff have just walked off from the counter, as I have limited time I don't think this is very satisfactory.

We ate inside and had the seniors menu expecting a smaller plate given the £7.95 price. The food arrived reasonably promptly as did the included pot of tea etc., and I was pleasantly suprised at how large the serving was. Great value, good service and as good a fish & chip meal as we've had where we have paid double the price. Our default destination when we re-visit Monmouth.

Had a lovely fish and chips and chicken and chips salad curry sauce we sat in but you can take out which is nice as you can sit over the road by the river staff friendly

£5.05 for a large dried wrinkled sausage and a portion of chips, absolute rip off I nearly died when he told me the price.

Called in at 7.41 for 2x fish and chips and they told me I was to late, went elsewhere. I will not darken their door again.

Basic fish n chips for a Friday night quick meal. I enjoyed my chips 😋 you get a decent size for what you order. We sat on the benches overlooking the river. Inside cafe.

Why is it that, nice looking places turn out not so nice? Fish was over battered ( crispier than others ) like crisps falling off, chips were only a few full ones ( buried beneath was scraps). This was eating in, so would not like to see what you get when you take it out. Maybe they don't really like passing trade 🤔🤔, service was nothing special either.

Had fish chips peas. Fish had more batter than fish. Chips was looking like scraps. ( Must of been what's left from the woman that served herself that walked in front of me entering the chippy as she served herself chips ) Had to go to counter ask for service. No one came to ask if all was ok. No one asked if all was ok on paying. Clothes are drying on the radiator in the sit in dining area. Recommend people to go elsewhere for sit down dining.

Very nice food, however staff could be friendlier. Also, to consume less plastic staff should ask whether you want to dine in or have it as takeaway.

Not a great place to eat. Poor quality food . My partner also had what appeared to be a woodlouse in her fish in breadcrumbs. Apology from young man serving and no charge for her meal !!!! No approach by management rather leaving young server to deal with complaint........ sad.

The most miserable , rude , unhelpful staff . Completely ignored until they felt the time was right , would rather be checking their phones and laughing with other staff members . Literally throw the food on the counter can’t even put salt and vinegar on . Worst place ever ! Needs training in everything basic especially how to speak to customers!!

Probably the worst food I've ever had from a chip shop. The venue itself is what's saving this from being a 1 star review. The good: This place was really clean, staff were friendly and dogs welcome in the garden. Portion sizes were large and presentation of the food was really good. Good selection of cans of pop. The bad: The food. There were so many bones in the battered fish (I know, it's fish you can expect a few bones) but there was so many that it was completely inedible. The cheesy veggie burger was incredibly dry (i asked for two sauces, and recieved the tiniest amount of mayo and none of the other sauce). The patty was less than half of the size of the bun, and the bun was stale. We had a portion of curry sauce each, and it was so salty neither of us could eat it. Cost £18 for food we couldn't eat, and nobody came round to make sure the food was okay.

22 minutes for someone to take my order, and that was because I was putting my coat on. Uninterested staff in a half empty restaurant. Can't imagine what they are like when it's busy.

Portions are very small for the price, had a very small amount of curry in a pot. Not great! Wouldn’t visit again.

Lovely food!!! Fish and chips was absolutely beautiful, freshly fried and flavoursome. Service was also great, staff friendly. Good value for money.

Pleasant young man counterpointed by an unsmiling woman prepping and frying . . . This was a meal to fill time so asked for takeaway to eat in the rain by the bridge. The chips were in the top few percent of a long lifetime of eating chips and fries all over the UK and the world. Fresh, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The fish (cod) was fresh from the fryer and texture was fine though this was not the deepest flavoured fish . . . batter was excellent though I'm not supposed to know (Shhh . . . don't tell!). All was served in a papier-mache clamshell, great because they bio degrade and can be recycled, the polystyrene ones are an ecological menace! Price wise, a little over the top but then, Monmouth is a surprisingly pricey place considering itself very 'upmarket' - M&S and Waitrose cheek by jowl!

Popped into day 4 dinner on our way home. Had the chicken curry, it was nice but small and hardly any curry sauce.

Very slow service Very greasy Pink in the middle sausages Staff happy to use hands to pick up chips that have fallen out of the tray,then put them back in. Would not visit again

Very disappointed, fish tasted of nothing at all, very watery maybe frozen, but the worst part was we spent days after with food poisoning. My only advice to anyone thinking of visiting this establishment is best to keep walking up the street to the proper chippy and save yourself a dozen toilet rolls in the process.

Good crispy batter and chrispy chips that melt in your mouth. Cone of chips available for snackers. The smaller Senior citizen meal good for smaller bellies ;)

Very very disappointed. Overcooked fish in soggy batter served with under cooked chips. Found a small piece of blue plastic in the fish.Every piece of fish was full of bones,not great with kids at all,vile at best

Chips were ok. But bland curry sauce, sausage like rubber, obviously been reheated. And the fish was flaky and stingy. Not a patch on queens fish bar a few yards away

I shared three small battered sausages and a medium portion of chips here today at lunch with my two sons. The sausages were delicious and the chips were some of the best I've eaten, as good as the best French pomme frite or Greek chips.

Terrible food and terrible service was waiting 20 minutes before someone came to take our order and another time one of the waitresses was sat with her feet on a table.

Excellent fish and chip shop with fresh fish and fresh chips. The reviews are true and you can either have some take away or you can sit inside and enjoy a delicious meal. The staff are friendly and helpful and there is something homely about this place. Very happy that I have discovered this place and great that I have the option of sitting in and eating or take away.

Fantastic place, the chicken curry & chips is to die for, plenty of other options to.If you want to have a sit down meal there is a little restaurant at the back .

It's a lovely town with lots of history but the chip shop was ok

Small cafe on the back of a chip shop, nothing really bad to say about it, it is what it is. Unless you're starving go for the oap smaller meals, enough for me and I've a big appetite.

This place is friendly and clean but the portion sizes are small. My wife had baked potato with cheese but said the cheese tasted very cheap and not as it should. Get a bag of chips from the counter, don't use the restaurant, they are nice and a bigger portion.

Lovely chips, certain staff however, need to go on a customer service course. I thought one was about to smile, but I think she had wind. Don't ask for a fish cake, if theres none on display. My God it's like you asked certain staff to bite off your toe nails. As I say though, nice chips. Just go in, keep yah head down and dont smile. You'll fit in lovely.

Very good! fish was a bit dry think it had been sitting in the warmer, chips superb had the senior citizens at 5.95. Excellent value and staff very good. Would be nice if the fish was cooked to order.

Have used this chip shop over many years and food has been very good. I went there this evening and had a very poor experience I was told I could not have fish as they were closing at 8pm. It was 7.50. Poor attitude more interested in closing and cleaning up than serving a customer no wonder these businesses struggle.

We always stop here on our to Wales best fish & chip in all of Wales and a great cup of tea. Staff are very friendly and efficient

Poor menu , run out chicken, run out of chicken curry, no pies , no hair nets or hats on dirty premises, and the most disgraceful attitude and manor from staff members, I have ever encountered. Such an Unprofessional approach to consumers rights do not value customers at all, To state that this place is child friedly with a casual atmosphere is a complete lie. Being told to keep a 2 year old child quiet and the staff member "dosnt get paid enough to listen to THAT"! Screamed and shouted at infront of children whilst other childish staff members laugh and sniggle , abused and told never to return. All infront of other consumers. Will never ever return nd will be takin this further.
