The staff at Pringles cafe are awful, rude and not to mention racist. We visited (my mum and I) today and couldn’t believe the attitude and customer service (or lack of) that we received all because they thought we were English. FYI, the English tourists are probably the ones who are keeping you in business so maybe you should treat them better!! We are in fact welsh, born and bred and speak the language. However we don’t sound welsh and spoke in English to them so they obviously just assumed that we were tourists.
First impressions weren’t great as the woman on the till was miserable and clearly didn’t want to be there but the real issue we had was with a staff member called Maggie. We placed our order and 10 minutes later Maggie brought the food to us. I asked if I could have some mayonnaise to which she replied “go and ask her” and then pointed to the woman at the till. I just want to add that Maggie hadn’t explained to us that condiments cost extra so we thought that was she being unhelpful. There was a queue and we didn’t want the food to go cold so asked if she could get us some. She gave my mum a filthy look and reluctantly handed them over, again never mentioned that we had to pay so we thought that they were free like most cafes/restaurants (In all honesty I think it’s greedy charging customers for a sachet of mayonnaise when they’ve spent £13 on a meal and I don’t know anywhere else that does it but that’s another argument)
My mum witnessed Maggie talking and laughing with her manager as she walked away so we can only presume that they were talking about us. There was also a couple sat behind us and Maggie came over to them and started talking about us in Welsh thinking that we didn’t understand. Funnily enough they asked for some condiments and she gave them for free, even though it was an issue when we asked. The difference is they were clearly locals. By this point we’d had enough so I asked if I could speak with her manager to which she replied “why, is there a problem?”. She clearly knew there was. Her and her disgusting attitude! I spoke with her manager but was struggling to get my words out as I was so annoyed with how we had been treated. Maggie was on the other side of the counter but came over and started saying “I’m sorry, I wasn’t talking about you”. She wasn’t close enough to hear what I had said to him so clearly knew what she had done wrong and was just trying to cover her tracks.
We couldn’t even finish our food as she made us feel so uncomfortable and so we just left. Initially I felt sorry for her manager but after reading the reviews online, this is clearly a regular occurrence and he obviously doesn’t care how his staff behaves or treats customers. The entire team needs some serious training in customer service. This all could have been avoided had she explained the sauce cost extra and asked us to pay at the till. We would have paid with no issues. Also, if you’re going to talk about your customers, please do it where they can’t hear you, it’s extremely unprofessional. I believe we would have been treated differently had they known we were Welsh too. They just took an instant dislike to us because they thought we were tourists and then back tracked when we confronted them.
We do our best to support local businesses but this cafe does not deserve people’s support! Absolute shocking service and we will not be visiting again. They are just lucky that we have not taken it any further as we couldn’t find any contact details online!
Unfortunately the cafe has gone down hill, not sure if it is a shortage of staff problem, but when busy tables are not cleared, food comes out cold. The coffee machines seriously need replacing. It is a pity because it used to be managed well here but now we afford it
Hilary, who is disabled, and I were staying locally in our caravan (not for the first time). A very good friend of our drove over from Sheffield and we decided to go out for Sunday lunch.
We went into Bala and parked outside Sospan Fach (that we had been happy to use on a previous visit).
We had a drink each, Sunday Roast (Pork), Scampi Chips and Salad and a Ham Ploughmans. All well cooked and presented, tasty, plentiful and served with a smile.
We were sitting chatting about to leave when the lady brought the Sweet Menu so we had Berry Pancakes and Cream, Eton Mess and Sherry Trifle.
I paid and was more than happy with the cost for three of us to have had an enjoyable meal.
I cannot understand the low score and might have to try some of the other places in Bala to see how wonderful they are to have scored higher!
Then again I might stick to where I have been well catered for in the past and again today.
Keep up the good work.
Tea for two was awful for what our daughter paid for us.only sandwiches and cake , with bread going hard.very limp salad.one scone between 2.bara brith and a piece of chocolate cake each.that was it.would never frequent again and that was in the price of a celebration tea for two.
Me and dad paid a visit around lunch time the food was very nice the staff were polite and approachable just one thing no sweetener on offer as I forgot mind but one thing always go on an empty stomach as the food portion was big keep up the good work guys stay safe Wales chick .xx
Great authentic food costing a reasonable price. Service was excellent and professional. Portions were generous too. Probably the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to on Long Island. Definitely recommend and will be returning.
Opening hours seem to be to satisfy the staff.
Lots of table numbers, order at bar and if you need anything it’s over there….
Big debate about wanting an extra coffee shot….
One piece of cold toast with an average breakfast, packet butter from a catering co.
Given the setting and close proximity to the Welsh Food Centre this place could be substantially better.
Staff nice enough …
I'm very disappointed with the quality. It was the worse "Takeaway" I have ever had. Tasteless food with very little meat or veg. Don't waste your time or money.
The wait for our usual Chinese food was over an hour so we tried here.
Not too bad but the hot and sour soup was tasteless and the lemon chicken was dry. However the curry was tasty as was the Singapore chow mein. Would consider buying again but a bit disappointing.
Usually food is acceptable today 10 November 2023 I ordered fish and chips and peas chips were good peas acceptable fish was horrible and under cooked batter ok 🎏 fish was hard especially middle part Caffe staff had no interest at all spoken to duty Manager Tom who told me that the store and Caffe are different identity and could not be bothered to do anything for customer satisfaction Very disappointed that Tesco has no appreciation for regular customer to be cared for. Will not eat there never again and I urge people to keep away and dine at Morrisons or Standing Stones nearby where you will get properly cooked food and your custom appreciated.
