Glan Menai Chip Shop in Isle of Anglesey

This may well have been freshly cooked fish , but it was well hidden in the thick and overcooked batter. Mushy peas ( about a tablespoon)had no flavour . So disappointing!! Not to be recommended and definitely won’t return.

Wonderful freshly cooked fish supper. Two elderly ladies behind counter gave us excellent service, yes it is fairly slow but definitely worth the wait.

Really looking forward to our fish Friday tea. Totally terrible meal. The fish batter was rock hard and dripping in grease and the fish inside was dried up, obviously been in the warmer for far too long and was inedible. Avoid this chippy at all costs.

Can't fault the portion sizes or the quality, but my word this took a while. Just 2 people in front of us on a quiet Sunday night and not a single item ready or put in the fryer to anticipate people in the queue behind us. One Sausage, One Cod and a portion of chips, we waited a staggering 30 minutes, which could have easily been halved if there was a small piece of initiative used when looking at the queue forming. Had we known we would be stood at the counter for that long we would have swerved. Shame because it was nice food, although I dread to think what on earth was in the curry sauce we got. Full of lumps and pieces of god knows what. Avoid if you don't have half hour + time to spend. Note - Cash only too.

The chippy is pretty good, almost as good as the one in betws y coed. The fish was a bit soggy and service can be slow but other than that it was nice

Food was really tasty and all made fresh. Lovely and welcoming staff. Cash only but for the quality of the food that was ok by me.

Visited this chippy July 19th 2022 first visit I was turned away as its cash only ? Asked why this was but not given a believable reply. Went and got cash came back and placed order bearing in mind nobody was in shop waited 35 minutes glad they were not busy. Went away to eat our fish and chips and also a balm. On opening I have never seen so few chip I was shocked given the cost of a portion. The fish was small but was fine other than that bread barn was also fine but given the cost and what I received comparing it to enochs in valley I will not use again. I go to Anglesey every 2 weeks during the summer and this is one place that will not seem me again. In this department enochs rules.

On arrival to the shop there were two customer being served so I waited. Then two other customers came in and I was ignored while they were served. My order was taken but no fish put in to cook. Other customers came in and were served but still no fish cooked. Finally cooked fish then while that was cooking I had to wait for chip's. Altogether I was waiting in store for over 30 minutes before my one portion of cod and chips was served then I was charged for the tray they were put into even though I didn't ask for it. Have to say it was hot and fresh and tasted lovely so in a way the wait was worth it, just felt as a visitor and not being Welsh I was ignored. I didn't say anything as I didn't want to make a fuss but in hindsight maybe I should have just left without food.

found this chippy on google it is run by 2 lovely old ladies who were brilliant the chippy is a little bit tired in the cafe area thats all but the food the service the price 100% will be going back very soon keep doing what you are doing ladies absolutley fantastic ignore all the ones giving bad remarks this is a good old traditional chippy serving traditional chippy food no kebabs or pizza and burgers 100% welld one keep cooking mark

Worst Fish and Chips I have ever had. Fish must have been cooked ages ago batter very soggy and very poor quality fish. Probably palmed me off with old fish to keep the fresher ones for regulars,therefore I will definitely not be one. Very slow service.

Top review for some top girls 10/10 would go again. Everything clean and fresh we will be back. Great performance

From the moment we stepped in side this is a fish & chip shop like no other. You hear Welsh spoken all around you. You watch the fish and Chips being cooked while you wait and its worth waiting for! Absolutely gorgeous fish and chips. We ate early, as soon as it opened and there was already a queue. Its that good! Generous sized portions.

Went here several times on a weeks break in Bangor. We always go here for the best fish n chips in the area. The only time I don't leave any as they are lush. Looking forward to next time.

Came to visit the chippy this evening and had fish and chips. Unfortunately, the fish looked a little leathery.

We ate in and the place is very old fashioned. It's family run and has a warm feel to it. The food was cooked to perfection and tasted great :-). Awesome fish and chips.

Went to this chip shop to day.the chip was lovely my family and me totally enjoyed the food . Everything was cooked fresh. The staff was very friendly.

We're local we dont use this chippy often and will never again after our recent visit. You expect banter and small village gossip but to be asked directly about a certain incident in chippy with a handful of people because you heard something from someone from another store is just plain rude!!. I understand some people have nothing better to do than gossip, a family member also had a similar experience in the past year its unacceptable everyone's any anyone's business gets discussed here and shared, mind your business!

Stopped for fish chips and peas, chips were lovely peas fine but OMG the worse fish I have ever been given. The batter was really dark in colour and thick the fish inside had shrunk that small and hard it had obviously not been sold on the prior day or days before that I’d say, and re dipped in batter and refried before serving , it was also so badly smelling was obviously off , why serve food that off and loose future customers surely it would benefit yourselves to keep customers coming back. I for one won’t be back disgusting

It's actually Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch - and opposite is a fish and chip ship, because when you are in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch you have to do something memorable. The lovely lady who looks after the shop speaks welsh as her first liquid tongue and was a delight as we talked about the Welsh language and pronunciations.You simply must visit!

I've only ever had chips and curry sauce and it's delicious a comfort food after a hard days work. A quick stop here and tea is made.

Best chips around can't pass without going in. Always fresh and cooked well. The chips are nice and white and to all the bad reviewers that complains about not cooked and light coloured chips that is down to the potato they use that has a low level of sugar like chips should be. Brilliant chips every time and I am a fussy eater and like things just so and they never dissapoint, wouldnt like to see the chips that the bad reviews like!!! Sometimes you have to wait a bit but patience and it is always worth the wait. chips llanfairpwll every time -if you dont its your loss!!!!!!!!!!!. Diolch am chips da bob tro!!!!

This place used to be the best chippy in the area. My chips were fine but I do like a crispy batter on my fish. Mine was soft, pliable, and resembled leather. Not sure if this was the intention or how the batter ends up in this state, but I won’t be coming back...

I live local , and haven’t used this chippy for years . Well over priced . They put chips in a carton and charge you for it with out asking . Chips ?? They never have any , you always have to wait . Awful and anemic and usually cold . I’d rather and do go elsewhere .

We were really hungry so I would have eaten anywhere..We chose to sit inside, very old fashioned place in every way. The fish and chips were ok, chips weren't all that hot though.My milk shake was a bit underwhelming.

Lovely, vintage old school chip shop. Lovely to see these originals still going! The fish, chips and peas were so so good and Sheila the waitress was lovely. Would recommend if you’re in the area.

What a great little chippy. A proper fish and chip shop, no kebabs, pizzas etc just a n honest fish and chip shop. I would recommend meat potato pie and chips oh and the gravy. My wife enjoyed her fish and chips. We will definitely be back.

Went to buy two large bags of chips to take away at 18:30 on a Friday evening, no chips ready and had to wait 20 minutes along with about six other people. The staff were in no rush, when I got home and opened the chips they would barely qualify for small bags and were white in colour due to being undercooked. Will not visit again.

I visit this place regularly whenever I'm in the area, as I absolutely love their chips; always consistently good. They can also microwave/grill items without batter, or at least they did for me, as I can't have wheat. Recommended.

Had a very nice tea for the family from here, staff very pleasant and helpful seemed a popular place to go

After a lovely day on Anglesey decided to end with take away fish and chips. What a way to end a lovely day!!!! Chips were limp and the fish terrible. Could just about find some tastless fish in the middle of soggy batter. Will not be returning.

Miserable staff (if you’re English). Overpriced for very basic. Batter grim and greasy. Not tasty. Much better around.

We sat in the car to eat our chips.......the batter on the fish was three feet thick, revealing a tiny fish....chips were quite uncooked. VERY expensive meal for sub standard goods.

Lunchtime visit on a coach to the trap opposite. Needed food to save cooking when I got home. Cod nice, chips atrocious (kept warm for too long?). Award winning chippies near where I live and no comparison here. I'd avoid in the unlikely event I'll be here again.

Without doubt the worst takeaway I’ve had on the island, poor quality fish & the smallest portion of chips I’ve ever seen, avoid like the plague, will travel to Benllech next time. A local customer lost

After having had fish and chips that were not home-cut earlier in the week, I was VERY happy to have come across this place whilst passing through!!! The chips were AMAZING: evidently home-cut and freshly fried! I’m salivating now thinking about them!

Very expensive prices for very little and tasteless food. £10 for a cone of chips, large chips, curry and 1 sausage !!!

Stopped off for a carry out of chips for the family. Faultless. Chips, peas, curry sauce and gravy were all spot on. Would definately recommend this place based on todays servings. Price was reasonable as well. Civil and efficient staff. Top marks.

Was on holiday in Bangor last July. Couldn't wait till out trip here again this week. Best fish & chips shop on Britain let alone Wales. Just lobe them in fact it's the only time I eat a whole portion & don't waste any. One place that does'nt give burnt offerings. Brown chips....I hate them. One great thing, won't get that here!! Arrived today will be up over the bridge in a while. Friendly staff too.

I went to Llanfairpwll to visit the village with the long name and I got hungry. I decided to stop to this place because it didn't look like a huge touristic place. I ordered some fish and chips.. I had to pay 8 pounds for a fish and chips meal served in a plastic box with a very low quantity and no sauce at all. It felt like a prison food.. the taste was awful and I was still hungry at the end.. I give the lowest rate just because the elderly woman who run this place is nice.

Good chips - will usually make a fresh batch as customers arrive. Run by the lovely Sheila . Friendly, chatty .

On a coach tour and its cold and inter snowing---Found this fish and chip shop---Great bag of chips---lady behind the counter was very chatty and friendly...Just opposite the main car park...cant miss it

The woman behind the counter has time for everyone and was so friendly. She knows all of the locals and is happy to chat away. Oh yes, the food is wonderful as well.

Called for fish and chips and got the worst meal ever. The chips were stale and the fish was coated in batter that resembled leather and was totally inedible. I will never call there again.

Wasn't planning on stopping however the tourist in me took over!!

When I need comfort car chippy I come here huge portion of chips and curry sauce bloody lovely ... I really like this traditional style place and enjoy sitting in.the car park with my chippy supper and a can of dandilion and burdock Scrummy

Mi pareja y yo fuimos a conseguir 3 bolsas de patatas fritas. El servicio fue bastante rápido, lo que me hizo pensar acerca de si las patatas fritas eran frescas o no. No olor agradable (como sal y vinagre no) pero cuando llegamos a casa...

Mientras que la señora mayor era muy amable, y la tienda tiene algo de encanto local, nunca volvería.

Awesome fish and chips, not cheap, but well worth the money, and average for the area. Service is excellent - well worth learning a please and thank you in Welsh to complete the experience!

Called in for chips on the way through to Bangor and they were the nicest chips I have had for a long time. Lovely and fluffy in the middle and cooked to perfection. Friendly helpful staff made the visit perfect. Thank you.

been to this place a few times and each time i go there the prices go up and you get less food each time, food is averege so its deffo not worth the price!!

Visited the Glan Menai fish and chip shop today with my parents and brother and was greeted by a very sweet old lady. We asked where the nearest cash machine was and she was extremely helpful in giving us directions. Eating in the cafe area was a good choice as it provided great entertainment when she shared a bit of banter with someone who was clearly a local! Three of our party chose to have the fish and chips; we all agreed that they were lovely with a very big portion of fish and chips. My Dad enjoyed his fishcakes and chips, noting that they weren't as greasy as some fish and chip places. If you're visiting the area with the longest train station name, this is definitely a good place to eat. It's not very expensive, even when you factor in paying more to eat in the cafe area.

£3.90 for a burger!!!!!! Horrible tough chips which I expect were reheated. 2 burgers 1 sausage, 1 chip barm and a portion of chips cost OVER £15!!!!! Terrible service.I WOULDN'T EAT HERE IF IT WAS THE LAST CHIPPY ON EARTH!!!!!ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!!!!

Had to stand and wait for my food for ages, staff were rather slow! Took our food home, opened chip boxes to find the portions were very poor, food was tasty and of quality but was still starving hungry having paid the chip shops prices. Even my wife was still hungry and she's not the biggest eater!!

Awful fish. Couldn't eat it. Bought in frozen. No chunks only flakes of fish . Will never go there again. Very expensive

Unusual as they will do fried egg and chips! Good venue for a taste of local gossip- often in Welsh- but quite innocuous, be assured!

We always stop off here when we visit Wales. Our Chips were freshly made, the staff are always friendly.As we live in Australia we really miss having mushy peas & curry with our chips. Our food was tasty &'we really enjoyed it.Will,definitely return on our next visit.

Went for lunch midweek and it was not busy .If you like your fish dry and your chips raw this is the plaice for you

My kids went next door to get Chinese they soon regretted their decision when they pinched a couple of my chips. And good value it was about £3 for chips and curry, proper treat.

We stopped here as we were hungry, I asked if there was anywhere we could sit down to eat and they showed us to a table . Coffee was gorgeous. We had pie chips and gravy and oh wow it was gorgeous. They didn't scrimp on the amount on the plate which was very filling. Definetely recomend

Stopped here about 7pm one night in December - everything was cooked fresh to order and I'm sure the mushy peas were homemade!

Really enjoyed the fish,chips and peas. One portion too much for me and the lady put it in to two boxes, so my friend and I could have half each. How good is that.
