The Chippy in Isle of Anglesey

Just had the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life. Tasteless. Chips were freezing, anaemic and slimy - like old chips refried in cold fat. Fish batter was so soggy. This place used to be great but it’s getting progressively worse. Never again. Nice box though …

We had cheesy chips , mushy pea and black pudding fritters , chicken cutlet with 2 tubs of curry sauce & gravy …….service with a Holyhead / Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 smile. Kudos to “ team chippy chippy “ well organised , hardworking and good all round communications with the public ………WELL DONE 👏👏👏

Visited in April this year while travelling through Holyhead from Ireland, I stop at ChippyChippy everytime I visit every month during April-Oct but never again. This time I received.... Bad stale greasy chips; I guess they are using old oil in the fryer, really horrible service from the staff they are running around like they are in an ibiza night club with loud dance hits in the background reminded me of the tom cruise film cocktail high fiving each other. I believe it changed ownership last year and it's obvious, no online service to pre-order, no electronic buzzer to help with queue control which means people are queuing out the door. Looks like the new owners have put their teenage son in charge because hes screaming around like he's still in the playground. Girls in charge of the assembly area more interested in watching tiktik videos on their mobiles than engaging with the queuing customers. Even worse when a family of hungry customers were making their way through the door one of the girls looked up from her mobile and ran to the toilet for 10 mins until they had ordered with someone else - diabolical staff management - I observed; lets wait for it to get busy & then i'll take my break attitude. Woman on the fryer looks like shes in charge but seems clueless in regard to what the staff are doing they wait for her to get fresh fish from the fridge then help themselves to the goodies in the drinks cabinet then hide their spoils when she returns all in plain sight of the hungry crowd! ....and good luck if you get your food within an hour of waiting, when you do get your food the chips will be cold as they prepare them 20 mins before your main sausage and fish are cooked and leave them in a cardboard box under the heat lamp; multiple stacked cardboard boxes under a heat lamp does not keep the chips walm, pretty common sense but to teenagers maybe not so obvious unless someone on tiktok tells them! Had cod & mushy peas, can honestly say both my partner and I found it to be superb in every way. Couldn’t even leave a small piece for the dogs. (But they had a sausage).

I was a little disappointed with our ‘catch’ on this years trip to the chippy Chippy. Chips were very good but the fish was a bit of a let down, Batter pale and soggy and fish lacked taste. Maybe I ‘caught’ them on an off day?

Had fish n chips here for the first time. It was absolutely delicious. Place is very clean. Staff friendly and efficient. They take card which is a plus. Definitely recommend.

We ordered chips , curry sauce and Manchester caviar - mushy peas . We took our takeaway down to newry beach overlooking the boats on a unusually hot early September evening . We loved it - great honest chippy grub.

Been here a couple of time now and not impressed at all. Friends think it’s great but last night they gave one of our orders to someone else so we had to wait for a fresh bit of fish to be cooked so the other 3 orders had to stay on the hot plate and we had to wait an extra 15 minutes. When we did get the fish supper it was not good at all, very thin cut of cod with very greasy batter. The chips and gravely were nice but overall we won’t be going back here again now that we have had a second bad experience.

absolute amazing been a few times now and its all amazing food . very fresh and tasty. good value for money and really good portion sizes. amazing customer service and would recommend to everyone. definitely coming again

Best chippy chips I've had for years. Hot, fresh, salty, vinegary just perfect. Huge portion for a great price really can't fault it. Helpful, really nice staff. Will be back.

Very polite and friendly staff the portions are Huge and the cost low! On a cold and windy night we were staying nearby and walked to the chippy and although they do not offer dine in they let us sit in and eat our food I would certainly recommend this as great place for fish and chips

There was nobody there waiting when we got there. We had an order of chips, jumbo sausage and cod goujons. all of which were ready and being kept warm under the heat. The woman was dishing out one portion of chips and then keeping them under the heat, then dishing out the other and putting it under the heat, then she went off to do something else whilst our food was just ready where we could see it. She then finally came to put the sausage and the goujons which had been ready for ages into the trays with the chips which had been ready for ages also. Waited a total of 30 mins for sour gravy with undercooked chips.

Once again the Chippy Chippy lives up to expectations. Cant fault it ! There is no more to be said !

We had been recommended Chippy Chippy by my brother and it didn’t disappoint. A short drive (around 8 mins) from Trearrdur Bay it’s definitely worth the effort. I noticed an earlier reviewer complaining about a ‘small’ fish however I can categorically state that mine was in a word ‘MASSIVe’ not only that they threw in a small additional price of fish that I had to give to Mrs L to eat as there was just TOO Much for one person! before everyone starts on ‘well it’s the taste / quality’ that counts (which I concur with btw) Chippy Chippy’s mammoth/ whale sized cod was tasty and also in a very beautiful batter. Normal chip portions (me and Mrs L shared one) are generous and it was nice to see ‘scallops’ on the menu which again were tasty indeed. Yep I had to try them as not had in years! They also have a nice choice of two types curry, chop shop style and Chinese style. I also liked the fact they serve in boxes which definitely keep the food fresh hot and crispy. The only negative comment I have is the fact I live 2 hrs away in Cheshire and my visit was during a holiday so all I can say is they you lucky locals have one fabulous Chippy on your doorstep so please go and support it! Well done everyone at Chippy Chippy I’ll be back as soon as I’m back on Anglesey.

Four of us had Regular Cod and Chips from 'Chippy Chippy', (previously called The Chippy), in Holyhead before we headed to Dublin. There was a bit of a wait as they were busy but the bonus was it was all freshly cooked and piping hot. We often eat fish and chips from various chippy's around the UK and we all thought these were average. The chips were good but the size of the Cod was tiny and quite thin also, (goodness knows what size a 'small' Cod must be, like a fish finger!). Cost was around £9 per person which again compared to other chippy's was on the high side for the portion size.

Got to the chippy about half past five and quite a few people queuing. We ordered cod and chips for both of us and were told there would be a 30 minute wait. It was well worth the wait.The staff were also very friendly. I think we will preorder next time we go which is what most customers seem to do.

Wether the chippy food is in the chip shop or in the mobile chippy van, the chippy menu choice is top draw , service with a smile on a very hot August afternoon. We loved it and so will you .

Pleasant staff upon arrival, all food freshly cooked to order, that meant a 15 minute wait, but have to say was well worth it. Proper tasty fish and chips. Would recommend if in the area.

Second visit and equally as good as the first. Used the app to order our food and was waiting for us to pick up at our collection time. This really is a 5 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ chippy. Looking forward to our next visit.

Had excellent takeaway fish & chips from here during our stay in Holyhead - great Covid measures when ordering, gave me a buzzer to alert me when my order was ready so it was super-easy. Lovely food and service, highly recommended.

First time after being recommended I’d put this lovely chip shop as good as any I’ve been to Chips amazing and fish had lovely thin crisp batter We often go to Whitby which are fantastic. I’d put these alongside any in Whitby

The best god damned battered haddock I have had in a long time and the mushy pea fritter is superb. Clean, beautifully cooked, non greasy chips.

Lunch today. Fish cooked to order. Delicious. I’ll buy food from here next time we’re in Holyhead. Currently you make the order and are given a pager for when it is ready. I think we were out of range, our order was brought to us. Very kind.

First time to try this chip shop out in Holyhead and I wasn't disappointed. Ordered a bag of chips and 2 fishcakes - it was really tasty and cooked perfectly. The staff are lovely, friendly and some are even bilingual which is a bonus. You do get value for money in the portions you receive. A very highly recommended place to get your fish and chips and I will be back again.

Fish & Chips to die for - All thanks to my lovely sister who moved from Uffington WIltshire to Caergybi in Jan 2019 for this treat - I was visiting from London nunhead - during my previous sixty years I rare 'The Chippy' 2nd in my all time fave chippy experiences - cod cooked from fresh in a delicious crispy light batter with perfect chips and of course not complete without mushy peas! - under new ownership since Oct 2018 don't be fooled by previous reputation ( not good! ) - so for the best chippy in Holyhead look no further!

We had fish and chips here when waiting for the ferry to Dublin. Great fish and chips. I'd asked for a small portion. The owner asked if I'd wanted a small portion of both or just fish. They had overcharged me so gave me the difference back. The food was good, the place spotless (even the toilet) and the staff pleasant.

The chippe is off the road before the railway station. The fish and chips are very tastefully and you have a good meal at a reasonable price A variety of drinks[

We’ve been to the chippy before and didn’t like it, seen they had new owners so thought we would give them a go, well we’ve found the perfect chips, I had chip bap sausage and peas, can’t get over the size of the bap it was huge, great value for money and lovely staff,the chippy is spotless so highly recommend

I have visited here on many occasions. Having tried many other fish and chip restaurants on the Island most of them very nice but without a doubt The Chippy serves the best Fish and Chips on Anglesey. What also impresses me is the cleanliness.

The server was extremely rude. She didnt ask us if we wanted salt and vinegar and therefore our chips were extremely unflavoured. She also never asked us if we wanted to sit in and when we went to she basically kicked us out when there were multiple empty and clean tables. Service was poor and the server overall acted as if our single portion of chips was too much hassle for her to make. The prices were also way too high. £2 for a small bag of chips with no flavour to is outrageous. Never going here again.

Miserable service, felt like they were being inconvenience by our order. Chips were a horrific soggy mess. Left sitting in oil all day. Small for regular sized, let alone large. Fish was straight from freezer, no taste. Avoid.

We stopped here for a bite to eat. £12 60 for two cod and chips with curry sauce. We ate in the car from the paper. A perfect lunch. Cod was fresh with a lovely crispy batter and a good feast on the chips. I'd recommend this place I would go and visit again you can eat in also. A perfect pit stop.

We were looking for a sit in meal in Holyhead and no where appealed, so we settled for fish and chips.

We had fish and chips from here recently while staying in the area. The service was slow. The fish and chips were VERY greasy and the fish was sticky. The fish was wrapped in paper but it was impossible to remove this without removing the batter too. Peas were pleasant.

Muy básico pero limpio. Servicio básico sin sonrisa. Comida básica para un chippy 'no es el mejor pero un agujero. Salsa de curry fue delicioso. Been to holyhead on 09/07/16. From outside the restaurant looked ok. But inside awful oily smell! Still ordered fish and chips seeing previous reviews. Had the worst fish and oil soaked non tasty awful smelly chips! Just ate a bit, paid and left the shop as quickly as possible. Not sure whether food inspectors are checking such shops!

I visited this place because it was close to where I was staying. From the outside it looked like a modern eaterie but once I entered it was distinctly old fashioned. I was asked if I wanted salt and vinegar on my food and was told to put it on myself but to do that I had to lean over the counter!!! The food was tasteless and the batter was barely cooked. Avoid this place unless every other chippy is closed.

well where do I start, my dad went in to this chippyfor large portion of chips, hence there were even sliced chipps more like dog ends fryed.and as for the peas there were bloody awfull I wouldn't go in there again the value wasn't worth the money either

I've called in here a few times. The picture of the outside is well out of date. Staff are friendly and service is quick and they remember you from the previous visit. - wot no mushy peas? Importantly the food is really good - excellent fish - usually cooked fresh to order. Occasionally we have the curry sauce as a change - recommended. We enjoy getting the meals and going around to the harbour sitting watching the ships going in and out but you can sit in if you want. They only accept cash so don't expect to be able to pay by card.

THis chippy is as good as any in the area. It is a chippy, and you will get what you expect from a traditional chippy at reasonable prices.

First off the lady behind the counter has no manners and is really rude , didn't look great shop when walked in but gave it a shot much to my sadness , the food was disgusting , it was the worst food i have every tasted , should no dish out food like that , when we opened the bag to see what we got it went straight into the bin horrible horrible horrible , place should be closed down

We always have a chippy treat when we're on holiday. The lady in the chippy remembers us each time, and is always chatty and friendly. We then take it to the front overlooking the sea and the fish is always delicious! Would highly recommend,

We always have one treat from here everytime we visit Anglesey, this time it was Fish n Chips, on Friday evg. We know the owner Janet, and the food is always good, especially her Homemade Chicken Curry, but beware, she soon sells out, its so good.

Terrble place had fish and chips and few others has fishcake chips it was cold fish was frozen in the middle and the chips were cold also could not eat the fishcake as that was frozen

Sadly, the food here was so greasy that it was virtually inedible and just caused us to feel ill afterwards - not recommended!

Stopped here with family on way home. Man behind counter just completely ignored my son and I. We were the only customers in the shop. We left shop to ask my husband something then went back in. Woman also behind till now. Still ignored. Decided they didn't deserve our custom for being so rude and ignorant and went elsewhere. All we needed was an acknowledgement "will be with you now" or "give me two minutes" or "just finish this" or something. No social skills.

Miserable staff with serious communication issues! One star is probably even too much after what ive seen. Family with young kids had ordered and paid for food and walked over to a table to sit down to only be shouted at by the miserable beast of the lot that they were not allowed to sit there as they had not paid "eat in" prices! Bearing in mind the place was dead and all tables empty. We ordered food to have a 15min wait to then receive shocking service by the miserable beast. She basically chucked the food into the tray then plonking it on the counter for us to then shut! She had very little understanding of communication seeing as we had to repeat ourself numerous times. Over priced food with crap service. Food was nothing special fish was ok and chips resembled cardboard! Ihighly recommend priceys chippy thats on the road by the side of this chippy as you get much better service and reasonable prices! I think that the staff let this place down as otherwise it would be fine but no wonder the place was dead now!

So, this was desperation as it was 1500 on a Sunday and none of the pubs or restaurants were serving food. We were "greeted" by a miserable lady and ordered our food. Our fish and chips were cooked fresh which was good as the hygiene of the place looked questionable. Although the batter on the fish was pale it was cooked perfectly and the cups were good too. We ate in and had a nice cuppa to wash down the food. The gentleman working there was friendly which made up a little for our initial greeting. With a good spring clean and some friendly staff to complement the good food this place could jump up the ratings in Holyhead.

Only place open on a sunday at 5.00pm waiting for ferry to Dublin. The lady serving seemed so miserable - barely spoke - got the impression she was doing us a favour - a deep fat fryer in someones kitchen would be a better description than a fish and chip shop. Asked if you wanted a carton or a wrapper - what was wrong in having both - (5p)? The chips were sodden and limp like they has been diped in fat that had seen better days. The grease was running down the side of the carton in bucket loads. The fish itself wasn't bad - the batter was another matter. Half an hour after we left the place was closed - maybe she was just having a bad day or had decided it just wasn't worth opening anymore - sorry would have to agree the latter. Smile would go a long way. Save yar money for the boat if you can. Lynne M - was that a different shop!?

The best fish and chips in the area, without a doubt. Even jumbo size fish if you can manage it. Very friendly service and facilities to eat in if so desired.
