M&S Cafe in Conwy

4 out of 6 self serve machines broken. Terrible queue! Not up to standard. Someone should take orders manually. Expect better.

This is a very busy cafe especially during the school holidays luckily my son was with us to negotiate the pre order machines it was very busy and a long queue to get to the machine to order when this was done we found a table near the window with a great view of Llandudno when ordering our food a lot was not available or out of stock but it was very busy our food and drink came very quickly and was good please be aware at busy times ordering is hard I will say as I’m over 70 the technology is very hard to order but that’s life these days plenty of tables and space remember card payment only no cash.

M&s has sadly put profit over any attempt at customer service. The long queues of confused customers waiting to pre order and pay at the screens was frustrating. Whilst we navigated this part alright, it was far from ideal as card only payments were allowed. We only ordered a cream scone and two hot drinks but the complete lack of any human interaction, completely ruined the experience. For example I couldn't ask for the scone to be warmed, or for hot milk on the side with my coffee, as these choices were simply not available. The only choices were strawberry jam or marmalade, again I would have liked to ask for another type of jam but this wasn't available. Predictably the scone had not been warmed and was dry, the coffee was cold. The member of staff that served us was really nice but overall we were left with a very negative impression of this experience. Reading some of the other reviews, the management team don’t even bother to reply to the many complaints made, further evidence of the complete disregard they have for their customers.

After a very brief time ordering my breakfast at the automated terminal, which was a new experience for and simple to follow. I found a table and within a few minutes I was brought my coffee and breakfast. All presented well and coffee and cooked breakfast exceeded my expectations. It was very good indeed. Staff polite and prompt.

What a shambles. My wife and I always head for a M&S café after doing our shopping. On holiday in Llandudno, we went to the "new M&S" and into the café. Six touch screens, no instructions, confused customers. We eventually managed to get a member of staff to navigate the screen for us, and then waited a very long time for the coffee to arrive. What should be a relaxed happy experience is now a chore. We will still come to M&S for shopping but going for coffee to Costa. Very poor M&S.

This is an impoverished, dehumanised experience, utterly non-inclusive. Most people of retirement age come to a cafe in part to be greeted by familiar staff. Alas the staff here are operating at speed...time and motion is king. The touch screen ordering is self evidently stressful for the digitally struggling, profit maximisation being the primary rationale. The Earl Grey tea.....I guess the pipes need more regular cleaning! The water taste overpowered the fleeting hint imparted by the struggling teabag. Perhaps mains water in a limestone area? A meniscus akin to a washing up scum fringed the drink. I want to award a zero if I can. The Victorian originators of this firm would be ideal mystery shoppers.

Can l thank Mark's Spencer for employing such a lovely young man called Lewis he has served me lots of times on my visit for lunch .can l just say he has always got a smile and very helpful and always comes back and asks if we are alright and if we need any help in anything we are a group of pensioners and they all say the same about him.. The cafe was busy and I just ordered a coffee at the terminal hoping that service would be quick and efficient and I would soon be on my way. After waiting for 20 minutes the couple sitting next to me (who ordered 5 minutes after me) received their toasted tea cakes - still no coffee for me I politely enquired where the coffee was only to be blithely told that "hot food is quicker than just drinks"! I find this bizarre. What on earth is M&S playing at? They used to be renowned for service and quality and neither of these qualities were in evidence. Staff were sparse and abrupt and coffee finally came after nearly a half-hour wait. Dreadful - will not return

We have been in here weekly for the last year but that’s it! It has got progressively worse, food served cold or lukewarm and very negative reactions from staff when asked to change it. Drinks and food rarely served together, often finishing one before served with the rest of our order. We have watched plates of food sitting waiting to be served for up to ten minutes, not surprised it is lukewarm. We have mastered the ordering system but have seen many people walk away when unable to do so. Such a shame as it was much, much better a year ago.

Been in this shop many times , went to cafe today cakes and drink very expensive, and got to go through a computer to order then .NO cash allowed. I’m being victimised for having cash , for old people this isn’t good .Marks and Spencer need to think about people who don’t have cards but like a nice environment to have a drink

I come here a lot to work as the Wi-Fi is great, and staff are always super friendly and helpful! The space is nice and there’s a range of seating including bar style tables with plug sockets and more comfy chairs. The food is really lovely, the coffee isn’t anything fancy, but there’s loads of options including non dairy milks. It does get busy a lot throughout the week, as well as the weekends, but it’s a big cafe with lots of seating and plenty of staff on hand to help if you need it. Not sure how well the tracker system actually works though, because I’ve often seen staff wandering around trying to locate the right table. Maybe using the more traditional fixed numbers on the tables would work better ? I understand the digital system might not work for everyone, but as a frequent visitor more often than not I’ve not had to wait too long to put my order and I’ve had quick and friendly service. The manager on shift at the time was really helpful and friendly (I think her name was Hannah?) she even let us know we could get a free slushie that day, which was a nice surprise ! Thank you!

Popped in a few times this week for a coffee and snack. Whilst we found the technology and service to be fine, it was more than clear many of the older customers got very frustrated having to order via the terminals. Given the place is always busy, I am sure the M&S management team could either permanently have help on hand or simply roll the clock back and have one till with a human being taking orders

I wanted a very weak latte and a plain scone. As I had to order on the big screen and couldn’t order an extremely weak latte, I had to have tea. However there was no facility to order a pot of hot water. After 25 mins wait, I went to the counter only to be told I had to wait my turn as there were a lot of hot meals in front of me. When I asked for a pot of hot water, the assistant look at me like thunder. The system is awful. The big screen doesn’t allow for personal requests, none of my elderly friends and neighbours could use the board or would even attempt to use it and the service is far too slow for a quick drink and snack. Yesterday I was at my local M & S cafe at Meadowhall Sheffield with two disabled ladies. I learnt that they are changing to the new electronic board system soon. They is no way I will take my friends there once they change the system. It is difficult enough when my friends cannot stand at a board whilst I enter their food order and I could not request extremely weak drinks. By the way, the staff were lovely and very obliging at Meadowhall, Sheffield, yesterday. Thank you for your help and personal service.

The Marks and Spencer cafe in a very nice new store. However, there are only machines to order no people. In a town that I am sure has an aging population why are you abandoning face to face contact? Watching many customers in distress with McDonald's type screens makes my blood boil. When a bank or business actually considers what the customer wants and needs they will be deserving of their profit. People need social interaction for their well being so give it them and well. It didn't save time it took 20 mins for an Americano if that's the argument!

Awful. Self-service ordering from a screen before you sit down. Ghastly. What do M&S think they are doing?

The first thing to point out is that Tripadvisor have the wrong address for this cafe. M&S relocated from 61 Mostyn Street to the former Debenhams unit on the Parc Llandudno Retail Park more than a year ago. I've notified Tripadvisor using the "Improve this listing" several times but they don't seem to believe me. So if you want to visit the M&S cafe in Llandudno then head to Parc Llandudno and not 61 Mostyn Street, where you'll (at the time of writing) find an empty and slowly decaying building. As for the "new" cafe much has been made of the touch screen ordering system which has proved to be very controversial, although personally I found it very straight forward to use (despite not exactly being a spring chicken). You place your order, pick up a tracking device and enter the number off the tracker as you place your order, find yourself a table and when it arrives the person serving knows which table to head for. It's quite clever really. I can however understand why some people may not be happy at not having the option to pay in cash. My main quibble however is that the "big" breakfast is served with chipolata sausages!!! Surely a "big" breakfast should only be served with proper meaty bangers? Every other element was fine, in particular the poached eggs which I really enjoyed. My breakfast was washed down with something called a "Magic Coffee" which I tried just out of interest as I had no idea what a "Magic Coffee" was. It turned out to be a small glass of coffee, which was very nice coffee but there just wasn't a lot of it.

This has to be the worst M&S cafe I’ve ever been in. It’s gone total self serve order ( touch screens ) this is not the experience I want, Asked two staff members for help but felt as though they just couldn’t be bothered. I use my local M&S cafe every Saturday if it goes down the same route I shall vote with my feet and wallet .hi tec has its place but not in a cafe

Frustrating visit, items of the order were missing, even after they were clearly ordered on the enlarged iPad. Seating seemed congested, obviously in an attempt to maximise seats. This restricted those with mobility issues. Queues for the screens, as a few were out of action.

Terrible system. Please bring back counter service where we are able to chat with staff about special requirements etc and allow to pay by cash. My elderly relatives don't have smartphones. Discrimination!

Chaotic from the table markers not having numbers on them through to dreadful service. Ordered a drink with snack. Drink arrived quickly but no food. Waited ages then asked about the food. Given a lecture by one of the staff on how there are two delivery schemes, one for drinks that come out first, then another with food. Basically scolded and told to wait. Meanwhile someone on the next table had their food delivered and then asked where their drink was! The pass was stacked with food waiting for service. Ours arrived cold. No one seemed to know what was going on. Aiming not to return

OMG, what is going on in M&S management meetings! Previously Debenhams cafe on the same site, counter service, quick and efficient, oh and friendly, with half a dozen or so staff. Now, you are faced with a digital screen, same as McDonald's, you have to navigate your way through it using pictures, surely real cakes and food sell themselves, and then pay and pick up a GPS tracker to put on your table, and sit down without talking to anyone. Our , very nice, toasted tea cakes were delivered to us, a few minutes later, but the accompanying coffees didn't arrive, via a different server, for 5 minutes afterwards, strangely we had wanted both items together! I'm guessing there was a small army of staff, at least 20 or so, all running around delivering items to tables etc, so it clearly isn't a cost saving excersise, but judging by the facial expressions and overheard grumbling from M&S core customers, mainly over 50's, this experience isn't going down too well, it's certainly put us off returning.

No fuss at all. Order on the screen, take a seat and wait for your food. Lovely latte and eggs benedict.

What experience 0. - 10 would be appropriate. I wanted a takeout and a drink in. What a rigmarole. Took forever to get my drink. 25 minutes at the moment I’ve been waiting. For god’s sake get sorted out. A person would be fantastic. It’s just arrived. 29 minutes. A scone with jam. But surprisingly no cream. The food store has plenty but none for me.

What is going on? First you don't get served, there is no human contact. You order off a screen. Then you get a 'tracker', a bit like if you're on parole. Then you sit and wait in what looks and feels like a coffee shop. Oh, and don't go with cash (it's a sware word!).

Hate the touch-screen ordering system. No facility to pay by cash. Very long wait just for two coffees. Will not return, prefer Costa now.

What a pity not all M&S; cafes are up to this standard. Quick service, excellent hot food and drinks and spotlessly clean. If you are coeliac they do a lovely chicken mushroom and rice soup with a GF roll.

If you have been to an M&S; cafe before then you know what to expect although due to the highly busy nature it doesn't feel as slick or relaxing as the others I have visited.

Went here while away for a few days , my husband and I always use m&s; at home for a light lunch, but we ordered our usual of toasted ham & cheese sandwich. Always use the café here when in the area. As with all M&S; cafes we have used all over country, there is usually slow service and not much of a 'system'. Food and drinks always very good. Main gripe with this branch is that they only have two ladies toilets, on the top floor, and this is totally inadequate for a huge store like this. Yesterday there were 8 ladies queuing and all very fed up with the lack of facilities. Apparently the men's toilet is very small too. A further toilet on the lower floor needs providing soon.

A 5 Star Food & Hygiene Rating although some cakes are open and not covered.A good choice of food. Soup, sandwiches, cakes, toasties, children's menu hot and cold beverages.I would imagine M&S spend a lot of money training their staff to provide the best customer service to complement their products and especially in quality control.However cappuccinos are hit and miss, not enough froth and not hot enough. The last cappuccino of the day should be as good as the first of the day.I know different staff make cappuccinos but the standard and quality must be to the same quality and high standard.I had a small cappuccino - the froth disappeared after two sips and it was not hot enough.

We had lunch at M and S prior to booking in at our hotel for the weekend. Toasted sandwiches and coffee met out needs and were reasonably priced and tasty.

My mums a regular in this store and I went with her to get a coffee while some other family members went shopping. All we wanted was a hot drink and some cake.The wait just to get to the till was 35 minutes. Yes, it was a Saturday, yes it was busy but there was SEVEN staff members floating about. There seemed to be 2 staff members cleaning the coffee machine, one on the till who did more talking than serving and the rest were rushing about but not really doing anything. 35 minutes later in a line full of people tutting and a feeling of annoyance, we got served. Extremely poor service with no direction and for the high prices, I expect more. Very poor.

Went for toasted teacakes and coffee during a Saturday morning shopping trip, delicious but go early for this lovely snack as they sell out quickly.

Waited forever for service, tables not cleared in a timely manor, however day visited the cafe appeared to have a shortage of staff, which would be a management issue rather than a staffing issue, the staff on duty did their very best shame on the management support.

This is the standard M&S cafe, situated at the back of the 1st floor, behind the ladies-wear section. Quite large and very clean. All the food on offer, is from M&S, so very good quality. The staff are efficient and friendly. The down side is that it's just an open plan cafeteria. Not a great ambience and no private tables. Probably due a re-vamp. Not one of the nicer in-store cafes.

Called in M&S a couple of times whilst on a short break. Ideal place for a quick snack and drink. We had soup one day and breakfast the next. Soup was good. Breakfast wasn't the tastiest but well presented and was OK. Staff all seem bright and cheerful in the cafe

I agree with the the reviewer who said that the staff are very friendly and helpful. There are almost always queues as the coffee machine does its work but this is the same as in other M and S with one till. As the cafe is a little ' out of the way' on the first floor, the fact that there are wudues testifies to its popurity. The cafe has recently increased its seating capacity and there are a lot fewer queues for tables. The service is very good and the food up to M and S standard.

What else is there to say? They are slow at making coffee which seems to be the same in all their cafes, but apart from that it was fine.

This is far and above my favourite M and S cafe! The staff are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they are really kind to disabled or elderly customers. They will carry trays and help any way they can and they greet locals( I'm sort of local) as friends. Queues are often long but this reflects its popularity and the nature of expresso machines ( especially the milk frothers). I am not sure how standard items of food can vary so much when being prepared, but often Llandudno produces more appetising plates than other stores! M and S in Cheshire Oaks is a close second- lots of lovely members of staff! Culverhouse Cross near Cardiff has some lovely members of staff but some are at times sloppy( and the same is true in the city centre cafe). However, the worst M and S cafe I have ever visited was one in Oxford Street, London! And it's not just 'city syndrome' because John Lewis cafes have a very different approach!

hi as usual we ate lunch one day in M&S cafe purely because you know the standard of what you are getting, Lovely hot food and cake only downside was service, stood over 15 minutes to order and then another 10 minutes for food which by m&S standards is very slow

Good to see that extra room and tables have been allocated to the cafe, despite visiting at a busy time (Saturday lunch 12 noon) we quickly found a table and were served fairly promptly. We enjoyed quality tea & coffee, fresh sandwiches and lemon drizzle cake which was especially yummy.

On holiday for a few days I popped in for a coffee and free wifi. Thought there was excellent team work going on and staff really seemed to connect with the customers. Decided to return day 2 and use my birthday cream tea voucher. Staff member stepped in and organised it all helping me make my selection, elsewhere in the country I have found they send you off to make your own.She then sorted it all out on the stand and escorted me to my table with it. Also offered to sing happy birthday Bathe scones were delicious but the Welsh cream was amazing, you can forget the other cream served up elsewhere, Welsh double cream is certainly very special. A great restaurant with a first class team that elevate a bog standard M&S Cafe into a very welcoming place to meet. Well Done you have set the standard for the rest

ordered 2 x jacket potatoes they arrived quickly with side salad. did wait a while to be served while they take your food orders and then serve your drinks and take your money. But it was warm not over cooked and laid out well on the plate. the service was good and pleasant

Had a coffee here during a shopping morning. Clean and airy and light also spacious. Staff friendly. Good coffee too.

Went here today for lunch, last min decision and it was very nice, ordered two jacket potatoes with filling, sadly they didn't have the tuna mayo but we opted for another. My four year old wanted lunch too and I found it very difficult to choose for him, ended up with toast and jam, I think it's defiantly caters for the elder person and not youngsters regarding choice. The food arrived and it really was lovely, service very good too. Will return in the future.

I've been to M&S cafes elsewhere, but the staff here, even on a busy Friday afternoon, were so friendly and helpful.The cafe is tucked away and you have to search for it really, but it's worth it.

The café at M&S is of a very high standard nothing too much trouble for the staff if asked a question. Kept very clean

Good for coffee and cake but I don't suggest going there for a meal! Food is good! It serves shortbread, scones sandwiches etc.... Yummy!

Everytime I come to this cafe there are always so many tables with dirty crockery. This could be a lack of staff. Good selection but service is slow. Slow to make coffees.
