Always a great experience when you dine at the crown, great food and as a veggie always lots to choose from! I’m a fussy eater and they always cater for my needs. Great local family business and friendly staff.

This was an excellent place to take my father for his 70th birthday. A modern scottish inn with a varied menu, a a very high standard of cooking, generous portions and at a affordable cost. I believe this is likely to be one of the most visited restaurants in ayrshire despite its rural setting and certainly the flow of cars during our stay was constant. Yet due to the set up of several smaller rooms it never felt too busy and still felt intimate. Food was not slow either and quality was still good. Chilli caramel salmon was a particular hit and the banana sponge with banoffee ice cream was a treat. Service was excellent and friendly and the fire place was a roaring treat!!

We had the Christmas Dine at Home by BM. It was absolutely fantastic and loads of great well cooked and fresh ingredients. The instructions were perfect and the Beef Wellington was superb. During this pandemic our Christmas Dinner helped us forget it for a few hours. Once again very highly recommended.

We stayed at 8 different hotels and guest houses during our last 2-week visit to Scotland. Unfortunately, this was our least favorite. We liked that there is plenty of onsite parking, restaurant, and bar. Check-in was quick; but the layout has you walking through the bar and restaurant to get to the check-in desk. Rather awkward for those walking through; and mildly distracting for those enjoying a drink or meal. The room itself was spacious and I liked the trouser press. However, signage in the room requests you keep the bathroom door closed when showering to prevent the fire alarm from going off. This turns the bathroom literally into a steam room. Everything; and I mean everything gets wet/damp, and stays that way. The hallways are very narrow and have a moldy smell. The bar downstairs is well stocked; but the bartenders are unable to mix a drink. I don't mean they lack the skills - but refuse. I love a good Scotch; but my wife occasionally prefers a mixed cocktail. Not possible here.

ANSWER for GIANLUCA CASU. The music is present in the place, it is kept in the background, as we are a restaurant and not a PUB, furthermore, being full, it was perhaps covered by the voices of the customers. We have been serving the Sardinian appetizer like this for 8 years, and if you can't eat 4 types of cured meats, you could have a plate of mixed cheeses. I understand that you have a boundless ego, you make cheese (CASU) as a surname, and therefore you claim to be the main product of MY dishes, even if it seems you don't understand much about cheese, to say nothing, change your surname, I remain humble so I avoid advice. The biggest fool you wrote, is about SEADAS, I don't know what your grandmother used, but the peretta is made of generally medium matured cow's milk, I don't think she used any peretta, maybe you're confusing it with some other peretta. It's clear that you're not in the profession, there was no need to point it out, you seem like one of those people who don't know things, but claim to explain them to others. We don't make Seadas with mature cheese, as it wouldn't stretch or melt. Seadas is made with primo sale cheese. Primo Sale is a Pecorino that has not been left to ripen, therefore a fresh cheese almost like a dairy product. This is the cheese we use, and we flavor it with orange and lemon zest. Having said that, the peculiarity of Seadas is this, the first salt is a cheese that remains "acid" and contrasts with the sweetness of the honey, this is the peculiarity of this dessert. Of three seadas, only you left, tell the truth, the Sardinians were the other two and you were a Provolone infiltrator!!! The biggest flaw is that you are Sardinian, they should ban you from entering Sardinia, just because of what you wrote on Seadas. Fresari

£2.90 for a bottle of water - Are you kidding? We went for 2 x breakfast rolls (one was a doubler/the other was a tripler), didn’t inform us that the menu we were looking at was takeaway prices only until we were leaving. The sit in menu doesn’t even have the cost of the tripler roll on it when I asked to double check the price. £15.80 for two breakfast rolls & one bottle of water is absolutely outrageous pricing. There are much better local options with a reasonable price attached to them!

We visited this beautiful wee gem tucked away in this pleasant suburb of Edinburgh: Newington. The lovely couple who own it ( and two sister restaurants in the city) explained they have changed their emphasis to wine by the glass or bottle with upmarket snacks from local high quality suppliers such as Iain Mellis cheese. We loved the cosy autumn into winter vibe: beautiful tasteful lighting enhanced this. They have a truly fabulous selection of wine to suit all tastes. We can’t wait to go back!

I cannot recommend the Oakwood Restaurant and the Highland Lassie enough. Calling ahead to make a reservation and preorder the food was a minor struggle for me—doesn't seem like the cellular reception is great there—but it was absolutely worth the small effort. Bring your own wine if you want it, Oakwood has no liquor license. Also of note: you're on a boat, the small dining room has only one table that seats six. Perhaps we should've expected it, but we were surprised to arrive and find that we were sharing the table with two sets of strangers. Don't shy away, lean into this! We all got to chatting and sharing stories of our lives and experiences, and it made the meal so much more memorable, enjoyable, and special than it would've been otherwise. The food is fantastic, I don't think there's a bad item on the menu, everyone exclaimed about how delicious their meals were, we all cleaned our plates and made room for the fantastic desserts as well. If you have dietary restrictions, let them know when you call, Gus & Gaby will find a way to accommodate you with something special. Gus was very attentive during the meal trying to make sure that everyone was happy. If you have an appreciation for boats, especially wooden boats, dining on the Highland Lassie is an extra special experience. My partner grew up on a wooden boat and knows the craft that goes into them and how much work they are to maintain. We got to talking with Gus and Gaby and they revealed the time and effort they personally put in to restoring the boat (formerly a fishing trawler), designing the wooden decks, rails, and cabins, the types of wood used, and Gus very kindly gave us a tour of the boat after dinner to show her off. She is an absolutely stunning lady with an amazing character and history. The rooms are quite nice, too, if you're considering sleeping on board or taking a cruise! Wonderful experience all around, definitely a memory we will treasure and a highlight of our trip to Loch Ness and the Highlands! Mahalo nui Gus and Gaby, from Angela and Forrest! Aloha from Hawaii and Orkney!

Love it in here the food is absolutely divine. We came for Sunday roasts and didn’t disappoint. Staff are always very polite helpful and cheery. I love the bar too it’s a busy place that says it all in my book. I also love all the old memorabilia as I remember the Citizen newspaper well. Nice to sit in the bar area after lunch/dinner too.

A wonderful stay in the PODS at Oak Tree. Cosy wee cabins with everything you need. Food was warming and just what was needed after a day of hiking. HOWEVER, the highlight of our stay was Jill who served us lunch and breakfast. Such welcoming, attentive and genuinely interested in us attitude. On both occasions Jill greeted us with a huge smile and was genuinely interested in us, her customer service is outstanding, a rare find these days. I will definitely return to The Oak Tree with Jill being a huge part of the reason. Young lady on reception who checked us in was also very welcoming and informative. Thank you Oak Tree, it has restored my faith that fantastic customer Service can still exist. Amanda & Kristina

Brilliant setting for food, drinks and watching live sport. Friendly and attentive staff who reserved us a space beside the pool table to talk football. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back for a Guinness. Grant runs a great pub đź‘Ť
