We recently spent four unforgettable days at Ben Cruachan Inn, celebrating our son Alfie and Hannah’s wedding, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and looked after by an exceptional team—Lucy, Sinclair, Mike, Davie, Paul, Marcus, Chris and Ethan. Their professionalism and attentiveness made every moment special, and we’re deeply grateful for their genuine hospitality. The food was incredible! Every breakfast and evening meal was prepared to perfection by the chef, who truly delivered a five-star dining experience each time. The quality, presentation, and flavours were beyond our expectations. Our cabin lodges overlooking Loch Awe were fantastic—spacious, spotlessly clean, and with breathtaking views that made each morning memorable. The attention to detail in every aspect of our stay truly impressed us. We highly recommend Ben Cruachan Inn to anyone looking for a place to relax, celebrate, or simply enjoy the beauty of Scotland. Thank you to the entire team for making our celebration so special. We’ll be back!

Comfortable, modern pub. Good selection of drinks. Efficient, friendly service. However menu was quite limited and only 1 specials choice. The beef brisket was off and we struggled to find another dish we’d like. I chose the dal, which was okay. My husband had fried chicken, waffle and cowboy beans. All individual items were okay, but just a weird combination. Like beans on toast with chicken! Surroundings and service great, just a bit of a ‘meh’ meal for us.

Stopped at this inn on a thoroughly wet evening as soon as we walked through the door were greeted and even though we hadn't booked a table was found. The meal (a special from the board - braised steak) was superb and one of the best meals we have had out for a long while. The "local" drinks menu also good. So good to see an eatery providing such a great example of how to do it, good service, good food in a warm and cosy environment. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening.

Nice bar, with a good atmosphere. Staff were fab, and the food a cut above standard pub food: the menu is a twist on the ‘pub menu’ and is delicious. Definitely recommend the Cruachan over options in Oban or Tyndrum.

Gorgeous hotel in a great location, though definitely on the dearer side, especially since breakfast is sold seperately. Rooms are comfortable, big, and ours even included a kitchen. All the breakfast options were delicious and the reastaurants menu looked also incredible. Hopefully next time we get the chance to taste some of it as we arrived very late and missed the dinner times. My only suggestion would be to warm the rooms a little before the guests' arrival, as it was a wee bit cold when we first entered. Otherwise a great experience.

A truly exceptional spot to stay, rest, and dine. Perfectly located to explore the surrounding area, the garden suites are a wonderful base to come back to. The food at the inn is an exceptional mix of creativity, and home favourites with a twist. Stayed at the Ben Cruachan Inn by Loch Awe for three nights B&B. By booking direct you receive breakfast included in the room rate. As the hotel rooms were “cosy in size” we upgraded to a suite which was very comfortable and clean with an outside terrace looking over to Loch Awe. The suite was well equiped with fridge, hob, crockery, cutlery and kettle. You could self cater but we used the restaurant which served excellent food and was busy so worth booking in advance. The staff were very welcoming and saved us a lovely table each evening. A slight disappointment was the special board menu stayed the same for the three nights, as we had looked forward to trying different options not on the standard menu. All in all, our short break, which was very last minute, we enjoyed very much and would certainly recommend the Ben Cruachan Inn.

A gastro-pub with rooms, this is the most friendly way to rest up before hitting the Oban ferries. The rooms are compact but very reasonably priced, the staff are very helpful and accommodating, the food and drink options are seriously impressive in the evenings and the breakfast to follow is worth taking the time to enjoy properly too.

Came here while on holiday and the menu was contemporary with some interesting twists on standard fare. Large range on non alcoholic drinks so a nice selection. Also lots of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options- if that what you want. Had crab for starter- light and fresh- followed by the steak with some particularly tasty tomatoes. And the chips were just beautiful. Amazing view and fantastic service to boot. Thank you for a really lovely meal!

We were in Loch Awe for a day trip and had our tea + late lunch here. The ambience is incredible - if it’s sunny and not too late in the day I recommend sitting outside. The loch is visible from the outside seating area. The food was delectable. I’ve never had such great tater tots before - I practically inhaled them. Tater tots (5/5) - They were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and not overly oily. Korean fried cauliflower (4/5) - The kimchi was great and the florets were juicy and tender on the inside and tasted good with the gochujang. Chicken (Main)(4/5) - The anchovy didn’t make sense to me but the chicken was so tender and garlicky and just melted in the mouth. Chocolate brownie with icecream (3/5) - The brownie was warmed up and gooey but I didn’t really enjoy the icecream as much.

The service was second to none here and the food was small but tasty. The only issue I had was at nearly £20 for a lobster and crayfish roll with tater tots (mini hash browns) it was really cold, I was expecting it warm.... when food is so cold you can't taste the flavours, this is food 101. The crab starter was nice though and other food looked good too with some good Gluten Free options. They are very keen on wining awards, so much so it seemed to be everywhere you look!! Could be better, food was borderline great, but just good in my opinion. The service was great, with one of the Gluten Free dishes being intercepted before being served having non gf items on it and the waiter taking it off the bill and apologising for the extended wait whilst they re made it before we even knew about it!!

I'd been here a few times before, for dinner and also to stay the night. This time just a quick stop on the way home from a day in Glen Creran with my hillwalking buddy. Had an absolutely delicious red lentil dal. Food always tastes nicer after a lot of exercise, but that wasn't the reason this time, that curry really was great. (What were the little pink vegetable bits used for decoration? Picked onions we thought, but not sure). Also, look out for the beautiful bar countertop, made from a polished tree trunk. Lots of other nice design round the place. Easy parking for weary hillwalkers just about able to hobble inside. We'll be back, no doubt.

Had lovely stay at Ben Cruachan. We had one of the suites which had sofa, table chairs, small kitchen area with sink, fridge, combination microwave and small hob. Double bedroom and bathroom with wc, sink and shower. Very well appointed and useful for late night comfort break for our cocker spaniel. We are used to king size bed so did not sleep quite as well in double. Instruction manual for combination microwave would have been useful. Breakfast was lovely, fresh eggs, hot smoked salmon and tasty sausages. A sausage every morning for Muffin. The evening menu was not to our liking, but that is probably just personal choice. Having said that Mike was very helpful and patient in ensuring we did get some supper on first night. Davie and Lewis most welcoming and friendly. We stayed four nights exploring the area. Went for a wee day out to Oban and decided to stop at this cracking wee place with stunning views over Loch Awe. We didn’t stay over night but the location and what we saw of the Inn looked amazing. We stopped off and had dinner whilst watching the rugby and all I can say is WOW. The food was out of this world. The menu is quite small but there is enough to choose from and no matter what you choose I’m sure you will enjoy. Well presented in a gorgeous restaurant with a fantastic setting. We did enjoy our stay, however, we were disappointed the fire wasn’t “roaring” on the Saturday night of our stay as it was a freezing winters night and for some reason they decided not to put the fire on. Attention to detail is massive, it makes all the difference. People don’t like snidey comments, especially from the manager. Another wee tip to the staff- don’t ask questions if you are not interested in hearing the answers. What makes a good host is taking a GENUINE interest in your customers. Ultimately it’s your customers that make your business possible. This place has massive potential but because of a few things that made us feel uncomfortable, we will not return. Manager- no point in being there if you are not happy !

We had a fantastic stay at the Ben Cruachan Inn. Weather was appalling however the friendly welcome we received more than made up for the pouring rain and gale force winds. The service was very good, but the food very disappointing. Between our group, there was overcooked chicken burger with barely any chicken to fill an oversized brioche roll, some over fried greasy battered fish with either no fish or chewy fish inside, and a dry venison stew with some overcooked/fried roast potatoes. The starters were ok, but the mains were pretty awful. We didn’t bother with dessert. Overall, a very disappointing meal despite staff being very accommodating. I’d recommend a new chef.

Have been here several times for Sunday lunch and have always found the food and staff brilliant, however, I had the misfortune to visit on a Monday and was served by the manager. He had a very bad attitude from the moment we walked in, got my order wrong twice, sighing as if it was my fault. Perhaps he should write orders down as he is given them instead of trying to be smart and remember them. When I asked him for the bread that was supposed to go with my husbands soup, he told me he only had one pair of hands. There were other comments said that upset me too and as a customer I should not be treated in such a way. I ended up leaving most of my lunch and walking out. I hope the owners read this as they need to know how customers are being treated. He ended up not charging us for our lunch but it in no way made up for the upset he caused. I won’t be back.Anyone reading this…go on a weekend, different staff.

We normally love the food here but today was a disappointment. We both ordered the roast dinners mine being the beef which was good but the pork dinner not good. Firstly it was belly of pork, lots of fat, very little meat and very chewy. There was a red purée under both the beef and pork which just made the plate look like a massacre. We normally love eating there but today was just not good although the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were good. Not sure if we would go back. I know we should of made a comment to the staff at least for them to get feedback on how bad the pork was. For some reason we expected slices of pork and at least a wee drop of apple sauce. The dog liked the pork. Maybe we will keep to the fish next time.

Booked primarily for the location. We wanted to be in the Highlands but still be able to travel freely in lots of different directions. So it was ideal for it's proximity to Oban, Glencoe and Loch Awe. We ate in the restaurant once, the food was incredible. Our hotel room was in the main Inn building. We had a small kitchenette but no utensils, oven gloves, tea towels so we couldn't really cook anything. The bed itself was two different mattresses squashed together. One was extremely hard/springs sticking into your back but the other was OK so we had to take it in turns sleeping on the good one. Not ideal really when you're out walking all day and want somewhere comfy to rest. The inn is easy to find and in a beautiful location. Recommend walking down to the train tracks and exploring the Loch. In terms of location, it was exactly what we wanted.

Stayed for a couple of nights, the room was smart and clean. The staff are lovely and good humoured. The food in the restaurant is really good. We personally don't agree with dogs being permitted in a food restaurant but everyone is different. We knew that before we went and there was no disruption or barking so no hassle. I would suggest if you're an allergy sufferer you might want to reconsider going, there were a few in at the one time. It wasn't enough to put us off because we would return. I would say that the breakfast is by far the best we've had in a hotel, fresh and non greasy and the first I've seen with a Scottish square so well done :)

We stayed in the room for breakfast each day (it was available at the pub), but ate in the pub each evening. The room was very clean - large bathroom with powerful shower and comfortable bed, with luxury of plenty of wardrobe space. The only criticism would be the lack of natural ventilation - the only opening were the doors, which is not really practical to leave open in the nighttime. The food was very nice at the pub each evening, with some nice veggie alternatives. On arrival the service was great but petered out as the meal went on. We were sat there for a good while before our main plates were cleared. The food was nice enough, nothing special- I had the crab linguine and there wasn’t loads of crab in it but I guess that’s to be expected given how expensive it is to buy! The sticky toffee pudding was nice (I’m a sucker for a dessert) but it wasnt very hot. All in all it was nice but I wouldn’t rush back, especially not for the price.

The room was clean, warm, functional and peaceful. The little kitchenette was useful, we didn't self-cater, but the use of the fridge and kettle came in handy. We had breakfast included and decided to eat both nights in the main hotel building (I forget to mention, this place is super dog friendly!). The food was great value bistro food and delicious (though breakfast was limited, but suspect this is due to Covid and will hopefully regain more choice eventually). This was our second visit but first for food. On our first visit we were surprised to be charged £18 for 3 drinks. We were staying locally and went back for lunch. The staff are lovely and helpful and the Inn itself is very nicely decorated. We had the ploughman’s which to be honest was quite small for a sharing plate. Half a small pork pie with soggy pastry, two bits of cheese, small oatcakes chutney, a small skinny baguette between two and gherkins. For the price it was hardly inspiring. The sweets were nice but all in all the menu is very limited. It seems a real shame because it’s ideally situated with lovely views of loch Awe but it’s too expensive for what you get. Sadly we won’t return.

My wife and I had a great week at the Ben Cruachan Inn, situated a few metres from the shores of Loch Awe. We opted to stay in the well equipped self contained chalets next to the main Inn, with views over the loch and a small outdoor area for us to unwind after each day's exploring. All of the Inn staff could not have been more attentive, providing recommendations of where to visit and even travel advice for our journey home when roads were closed. Our intention was to use the chalet's self catering facilities more, but having tried the food and unwinding in the bar of an evening with a whisky recommendation, we didn't bother. From start to finish we were made to feel like friends rather than guests, and will definitely be staying again!

We had a lovely meal here. Welcoming & friendly, including treats for the dog, with top quality food that looked & tasted delicious. Also, they offered to help us out with a tricky work problem we had (we didn't need it in the end, but the offer itself was very much appreciated!), which says everything about the value they place on their customers.

We stayed for 1 night in a double room. The inn is in a lovely setting overlooking Loch Awe. We had an evening meal in the restaurant the food and service were both great, great choice of food and drinks. Staff work hard and are very efficient. We stayed in a standard double in the main building. The room itself was ok, with a large double bed and a small kitchenette, unfortunately there was no fridge. The bathroom was basic, small but pratical. The general corridor to the rooms I thought smelled a bit stale and would make for a more pleasant experience if this was freshened up. There are also suites outside of the main building which look like a great place to stay.Overall, a good stay with basic accomodation but good food and nice terrace overlooking the loch.

Really welcoming service, room was fantastic, added bonus that netflix was on TV so this was great for kids to relax and chill after a busy day whilst we had a wee wine on the lovely deck. Great that can walk straight over to bar/restaurant area, dog friendly as well.

Fell across this restaurant en route to Oban - what a great find! Beautiful setting, clean well decorated restaurant with good Covid-safe procedures in place. We enjoyed the most delicious lunch with excellent service. Absolutely no faults. Many thanks to the excellent staff!

Now living in the area and decided to try the place for lunch. Overall, staff very friendly and attentive. Lovely views from some seats. Had the mussel and clam chowder - too runny for a chowder. Sticky toffee pudding was yummy but I suspect out of a tin. Husband had fish and chips - nice but fish was very small for the price charged. Menu limited. Get better value at the Glen Orchy just 5 mins down the road and locals get 10% off. I suspect that is where we will frequent for lunch in future.

Fantastic little hotel on the banks of Loch awe. Staff very friendly and hard working, bar/restaurant very warm and welcoming and the food is superb. Highly recommend this place! Only slight down side is can hear noise from other rooms quite clearly but luckily our neighbours weren't too loud. Lovely place though!

We were just going to a different restaurant but they had COVID-19 so we had to find a second place to eat, we managed to book this gem easily considering there was five of us.Situated next to the beautiful loch Owe with outdoor seating and a welcoming indoor.I had the Crab Linguine and the triple scoop ice cream, it tasted incredible and presented nicely! All others loved their food too!We have two dogs so finding a dog friendly place was not the easiest…Here was dog friendly and they got treats.Staff were kind and funny.Would definitely recommend!

We stayed in a garden suite with a beautiful loch view. Stayed with our dog who was welcome in the bar too. Room 6 was great! Covered veranda so I sat out in the sun and the rain with my morning coffee very clean and comfy, small and perfectly formed. We ate in the bar both nights we were there, and the food and service we great. Really friendly staff.

We stayed in a garden suite as a family of three and a dog. The suite was nice, clean and well equipped. But some areas that let it down. The shower is tiny. Why they put such a small corner shower in I don't know, as the bathroom is a decent size and could take a much bigger shower unit. The sofa (which double as the sofa bed) is horrible to sit on. Very uncomfortable. The suites have no windows, so it means the room is baking hot when the weather is nice during the summer at night. We ate dinner there both nights of our stay. It was OK. Nothing special. Better places a few miles down the road to eat in my opinion. Service was hit and miss as they seemed to have lots of junior staff so things naturally kept getting missed. On trying to check out in the morning I stood at the desk for 5mins while 3 staff cleaned and walked about and not one of them said they would get the manager to help. Things like that which was a shame. If you drink prosecco be warned. A glass is over £8 which is premium hotel territory.

We decided to try this place out as it was dog friendly, reviews were great, and the menu looked great. We were thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere was incredible. The food was sublime. The staff were super friendly, accommodating and lovely. Fish and Chips were out of this worldThe burger had an amazing smokey taste to it. The Sticky toffee pudding was delicious. If you are anywhere near here, stop by and grab a bite to eat, you will not be disappointed!

We stayed as a family of four (five including our dog) in one of the garden suites which had a lovely views onto the Loch. Upon arrival our temperatures were taken and we were shown to our apartment. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially Martin and the two waitresses! The food is absolutely delicious. Recommend the steak, fish and chips and grilled halloumi salad! Great range of drinks. The breakfast has a great variety and excellent value at £10pp.The apartment itself was very clean and had everything needed for short stay. The bathroom had an excellent shower and the towels were fab. The tv even had Netflix etc which went down well with the kids! The only (constructive) criticism we had was the sofa bed wasn’t particularly comfortable when used as a bed and the heat in the apartment at night caused disrupted sleep. There are no windows to open only two glass doors at either end of apartment. However with two daughters and a dog these couldn’t be left open during the night. Not sure what the solution for that is… maybe have some electric fans available? All in all it is a fabulous place and we had a great stay and would recommend!

This cafe went above and beyond. Not only did I get chips and cheese with a coffee (after a 30mile bike ride) but I also managed to charge my phone and when I asked when the ferry was due got an up to the minute status
