La Lanterna West End in Glasgow City

Visiting from the US and unaware of the need for reservations in every establishment in town. We were seated, but told immediately and rudely, “You have to leave your coats!” Every other customer was asked kindly at the table if they preferred to keep their coat or give it to staff to hold for them. We were openly scoffed at my waitstaff throughout our meal as if we were criminals, even though we did nothing that was out of hand. I hated this place and their snotty staff, who were wearing panty hose with white sneakers and had braces on their teeth with clear brackets. You are NOT fancy, just mean! Please travel abroad where YOU are unaware of customs and see how you are treated. You need humbling. Your food was delicious, but I would rather eat it with gutter rats than deal with your side eye and looks of disdain.

Forgot to book somewhere on a busy Saturday night due to a last minute trip visiting from London. Saw this quaint little spot and popped in. Waitresses were very attentive in order to try and get us a table which was massively appreciated as you could see it was fully booked. The food was excellent with hearty portions that hit the spot. The ambience was just right and the staff were all very personable and pleasant. Would highly recommend this place. The only reason for the 4* on service is due to not being offered refills at any point since sitting down. May have been due to the busy service.

The vibe is dead cosy, proper old-school Italian, perfect for a date night or just a wee catch-up with your pals. The staff are absolute legends,proper friendly and make sure you’re sorted without hovering about. If you’re in Glasgow and fancy some quality Italian scran, La Lanterna’s the place. You’ll leave stuffed and buzzing for your next visit.

Disappointed with the prices and some of the food. First - my sons went for chicken goujons with chips and we were charged 12.95 for each plate. It was the only restaurant in Glasgow where we were charged a service charge. As regards to food my penne al forno was edible but tasteless. My wife's Bolognese was good. Really disappointed!

Este restaurante vino muy recomendable. no creo lo que lees. Arranque. ¿No se tuesta la bruschetta? Nos sirvieron pan pastoso y tomates insípidos. Cuando devuelvas una morenita debería ser una advertencia. Mains Mi esposa pidió una pasta con mariscos con salsa de tomate. Insípido y sin sabor. Por completo. La pasta de reemplazo con langostinos y chile mientras estaba muy lleno de chile era al menos comestible Mi principal de risotto con salchicha y puré de calabaza sonó interesante. Gran error. La calabaza era demasiado dulce. El embutido no era en copos ni salchicha molida (lo que hubiera tenido sentido para un risotto ) Risotto en sí era demasiado denso Y para terminar todo. El parmesano en la parte superior consistía en tiras de parmesano que terminaron asemejándose a una cobertura de pizza. ¿Has oído hablar de la ralla? La pobre camarera hizo todo lo posible. Muy pobre de un restaurante que tenía altas críticas. Un error se entiende, pero toda la comida? Yo evitaría

I love La Lanterns Wet End. It's always very clean, staff are friendly, polite, helpful, and food is always s beautifully cooked. It's my favourite restaurant.

Been going here on and off for years. It's always perfect.

The mussels today were not fresh and I got a fish poisoning. That shouldn't happen and is very dangerous. My system still fights against the poisoning. Please check the mussels first before you serve them. They had a strong "fishy" taste. Since I was hungry I ate them. I learned a lot about sea food today. But again, this shouldnt happen in a restaurant.

Fantastic service! We hired the private dining area for a surprise family birthday dinner. Food was delicious and staff couldn’t be more helpful and attentive. We will definitely be back. Thanks again

Too bright service ok food was disappointing my lasagne was too saucy more like soup husbands seafood pasta had 4 mussels and 2 prawns few rings of calamari

Love the city centre restaurant so expected same high standards of food: unfortunately my scallops were way overcooked the black pudding was a mere crumb, the halibut was tasty but slightly overcooked however I ate it as it was my only meal of the day. My friends lemon sole on the bone was burnt and sent it back. Very disappointed restaurant was far too busy. The service was excellent but sorry will not be back.

The food here is top notch but it's a little place and a wee bit cramped. A friend recommended/treated me to a meal here and they were very accomodating. It's not cheap... but it's worth every penny... The place is clean, in fact, it is spotless...! That alone instills some confidence in their culinary capabilities.....

The food and service are excellent. I've been to la laterna twice, and both times I have really enjoyed my experience. Just be prepared to pay a bit more than you are used to.

I saw the staff turning away a heavily pregnant woman who was begging to use their toilet. Food extremely average and tight and poky inside.

Visited for a birthday dinner recently. Food was delicious, good portion sizes, however was disappointed by waitress overtly chewing bubble gum throughout service and blowing bubbles on the restaurant floor. Had she been serving our table, I would have asked for amother server, but instead tried to enjoy our meal and complained to staff as we left. I was shocked by this behaviour and would not unfortunately recommend visiting to friends, as I wouldn't return myself. A pity, as the food was excellent!

Been several times before this time I ordered the seafood platter from the specials menu I was only home less than an hour when I was violently sick I hadn’t eaten anything other than a weetabix 8 hours previously so I’m blaming the fish for sure . Called to report what had happened and the girl said she’d get the manager to call me back ASAP . Needless to say he didn’t . Wouldn’t have posted this if he had . Just wanted to warn him of my experience and to check his fish supplies for freshness . Won’t be back .

Had another excellent dinner at La Lanterna west end. Staff are always friendly and attentive. Great ambience and decor . Also great for gluten free food.( Staff are knowledgeable and understanding re gluten free ) Most dishes can be adapted to suit. As I am coeliac I really appreciate this. I had the scallops and a prawn and lobster pasta which were both delicious. My husband , sister and husband all thoroughly enjoyed their dishes too. Glad to see zabaglione on the menu again …. one of our favourite desserts…..superb !!! Overall a great night .

We booked a table for dinner to celebrate our daughter’s graduation and weren’t disappointed. Fantastic food and outstanding service from Glasgow’s best quality and most authentic Italian restaurant. Would highly recommend the spaghetti Aragosta, it’s a family favourite as we have dined at La Lanterna on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed with the freshly prepared food or the quality of service.

Great menu and gorgeous food. Staff were cheerful and attentive and the restaurant had great ambience. Hubby had ravioli and my meal was chicken with parma ham and mozzarella. Parmesan and truffle fries were amazing!

I had a pleasant evening with my colleagues. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The food portions were generous, however, the overall taste did not meet my expectations. The calamari was slightly overcooked, and the chicken in the pasta dish lacked flavor. With proper seasoning, the dishes could have been significantly improved. Other hand my friends absolutely loved their meals. The Mocktails were the best!

Another great meal at our favorite Italian restaurant in Glasgow. Started eating before remembering to take a photo - always a good sign. Langoustines are juicy and creamy as always. Also had the seafood stew. One of the best if not the best in town (we like this version at the West End location better). They have an updated menu and slightly updated prices too, but well worth it.

Lovely place, a bit pricey but food is worth it. Had spaghetti carbonara, was really delicious, loads of pancetta

An excellent choice for a wonderful meal on a cold night. The pasta was easily one of the best meals of my trip to Glasgow, and was the perfect amount to eat. Staff was friendly but their reservation system is frustrating to navigate and it took me 4 tries to get a successful booking.

I think this is my new favourite restaurant in Glasgow. The food was outstanding. I had big juicy mussels, monkfish wrapped in ham with a fantastic tagliatelle sauce and a superb cannolli. Quality ingredients balanced perfectly. If I was you I would book now.

food was great, though starters eclipsed main courses..

Place isn't child friendly . We asked for a plastic cup for my son but they didn't have any. My 2 kids were quite rowdy and all we got was stares from the staff. Food was far to rich. The kids didn't like the main course. Also the dessert was average. Atmosphere was very dull and we didn't feel comfortable from the get go.

Booked La Lanterna for Valentines day and we were both really disappointed with the experience. We were seated in the cellar which is not a pleasant place to sit with the music on pretty loud (the cellar is not a cellar at all and is past the toilets into a brightly lit room that’s pretty tacky). Food was very average with small portions and overpriced for what your getting. Would not recommend, especially if you don’t eat meat or fish.

too salt，pasta is not soft enough

I order food on Uber Eats pretty frequently due to my work schedule and I tend to have buyer's remorse ordering from most restaurants. Honestly, this has been one of my best orders in recent weeks. I ordered the carbonara and the antipasto misto, the latter being the star of the show. The last time I ordered from La Lanterna it came with burrata, which did not come this time, but it was still so good. Huge selection in my opinion, I've been to places that give you a lot less for a lot more. The burrata was definitely missed though. As for the carbonara, I'm actually not a huge carbonara fan but this one was really, really good. Still warm, tasty, creamy and great portion. Overall, awesome restaurant to order from! To-go bag came with nice doodles as well which I thought was cool haha.

Had some prawn and lobster meat pasta and my gf had crab ravioli. My dish - the prawns were fresh, the rest wasn't. The sauce had split. My gf couldn't finish her ravioli so I tried some and it was very obviously old crab meat. Quietly highlighted this to the waitress (she was lovely) and was told it was made at 11am in the hope st restaurant. This meant that ultimately they had no way of confirming the date on the crab meat on the spot. It's also irrelevant when it was made as you can still make ravioli with old meat. Hope this isn't coming across as mean spirited but I was pretty disappointed after reading it was "award winning food". I'm sure the creator of the menu wouldn't have appreciated the final product on this particular evening.

A wonderful lunch with a great friend. Two stand out dishes on the a la carte menu were the generous portions of sea bream on a bed of Lyonnais potatoes and a show stopper of affogato for dessert. We drank a Sardinian wine which was an excellent recommendation. Service was friendly, professional and discreet. Top marks all round.

Nice west end restaurant, good food and service

Was recommended to come here by one of the owners daughters a few years ago- finally made it and what a delight! Squeezed us in on a busy Saturday night and were attentive as friendly. Food is delicious, I love lasagne and this is up there with the best I’ve had!

Delightfully fresh, unusal decor. Excellent service and food. The presentation of every single dish was perfect. Staff very well trained, and the running of the restaurant, slick and unobtrusive.

Really nice food varied and lots of people had different things that they all enjoyed. Had a private room for a function. Cosy and pleasant surroundings. Everyone enjoyed it. Like anywhere in the west end, plan your parking in advance. Yellow lines give free parking after a certain time at night. If you go by subway Kelvinbridge is right on top of it, that would be easiest.

Food quality has slid downhill of late. Bland pasta. Salty meat dishes and a general lack of depth of flavour or generosity of ingredients. Wine list is ok but has only a few stars. Good location and atmosphere but a touch cramped.

I had the monkfish wrapped in Parma ham, my partner had rack of lamb. The monkfish was succulent and meaty, served in a tomato-based sauce, not too creamy. Delish. The lamb was thickly cut but very tender. 10/10 would recommend and will return for a fourth visit ☺️.

Food was fab, however the service was very very poor, at no point did any of our serving staff ask how we were, how the food was, didn't offer us water for our table, then this manager type took over ( tall guy, slim, very dour) with the personality of a wet weekend who then stuck the dessert menu under our noses without asking if we'd care to view it. It's genuinely the first time I haven't left a tip at any restaurant. As I sad food was fab, the rest was forgettable. Maybe the staff and the tall guy need stsff/customer training.

The La Lanterna brand is held in lofty esteem in Glasgows culinary circles so I had high hopes in trying a fairly affordable lunch deal. The restaurant itself is quite small and decorated with a simple Mediterranean charm. Bright and airy it feels intimate and upmarket. Location on Great Western Road is a nice compromise between Central and Byres Road. The food was hearty and flavourful. Rich tomato, fresh and wholesome. At £17.95 for two courses it was good value too. However, if coming again I would opt for an evening meal as it just felt like it wasn’t in full flow and more going through the motions. The warm up if you will. Missing the X factor of a little buzz or exceptional service to elevate it to a full five star experience on this occasion. Quasi!!!

I was really disappointed with my visit here. My partner took me for dinner for my birthday adding in the booking notes it was my birthday, with us wishing to go to a local independent restaurant instead of a chain to have a more special touch. We would have been better at an Ask Italian! Never mind an extra touch for my birthday, the service was non-existent, didn't even get one smile or "how are you?" our whole visit nor even a word when paying the bill and that was with the manager. Service was incredibly cold and awkward. I have worked in hospitality myself so appreciate in busy times there is not much time to chat or be around, but it was really quiet which also made for a strange atmosphere. The food was nice enough so fine if you want to pop in for a dinner after work one day but do not spend a special occasion here, definitely not what I wanted on my birthday. Probably won't go back personally.

Been here a few times for lunch and dinner and it’s brilliant Me and my girlfriend came here for lunch recently and were serve by Callum, Callum is a top class server and provided amazing service Having been here for both lunch and dinner I can defiantly say they didn’t cheap out on the lunch deal and the food was just as amazing for lunch as it is for dinner Only thing would be the size of the restaurant it is rather small but hey ho

Classica Bruschetta is a MUST get! The last time we had such nice tomatoes were when we visited Rome a few years back. Nobody here in Glasgow does such nice bruschetta, except La Lanterna. You can totally tell they were imported from Italy and the tomatoes were home grown under the amazing Italian sun. Gobsmacked! Well done you guys! Oh and my main, the Linguine Pescatora was next level stuff. Super fresh seafood medley. Juicy king prawns. Calamari. While mussels on shells. Wow! Thank you, we'll be back !!

Been here twice and both times were 10/10 for the food, service, atmosphere and just everything in general. Definitely my favourite restaurant to dine in the west end. Came today for my 21st birthday and the staff were lovely and very accommodating. The starter, main and dessert I had were total perfection and the drinks were great also, especially the strawberry margarita 🤩

Went to the West End branch of La Lanterna for my graduation dinner. I had a booking at 7, but showed up slightly later than that and waited at the door. Though there were three staff members on the floor I was not acknowledged for 3-5 minutes which was not ideal However the rest of the experience was great, the food was incredibly tasty, the wine selection was really good and the Tiramisu' I tried was the best I ever tasted in Scotland. More attention could be given to the service as this felt like a semi-luxurious restaurant, but recruited unattentive staff

Came here for family birthday. Food was fabulous and service great. Honestly this is some of the best Italian food in Glasgow.

Overpriced,living on reputation&location,full of Wanabees.Dont see what all fuss is about,upmarket caff.Get some Pasta& sauce, Homebargain,save a fortune.They are taking the smeg.Didnt see any Italian footballers,like when La Parmigana.Upmarket caff.

Great food, excellent drinks & exceptional staff! I accidentally left a laptop there during closing time, and went back the next morning and not only had they safely put it aside for me, they also had a note to make sure that the correct patron came to pick it up. The attention to detail and kindness in regards to customer service is unmatched!

I picked risotto and it was really good. I'll try this again when I'm here!

Myself and my aunt had a fabulous lunch today 4/5/23. The minestrone soup, a classic dish, was the best I’ve tasted. I had crab ravioli with a lobster sauce which was sensational. Immaculate restaurant with terrific staff and reasonable prices. Can’t wait to go again.

Went here for mothers day, service was spot on. But my food came out look warm. By the time they brought me a new one very on else had finished. Shame.

The lunch menu didn’t give me a lot of choices and I ordered Pollo ala romana in the picture, it’s basically chicken breast with mozzarella cheese which is nice. The gnocchi was not bad. But the food was kinda average so nothing too overwhelming. The portion for two courses was a lot for me. Service was impeccable at a not busy hour

For sure the west end’s best Italian restaurant. A fantastic atmosphere and perfect decor, with some of the nicest waitstaff I’ve encountered. The food always comes in perfect portions, never leaving room for anything else, other than desert! This time around I had the spaghetti with prawns and crab meat which was nothing less than scrumptious. With great presentation too. Their Tiramisu is a must-have after any good pasta dish, with this one being one of the best I have had for ages! This is a place perfect for dates, family dinners, and if you’re looking to book for a larger outing, their cellar dining room is kitted out for that too. A place I’ll be regularly coming to in the future!

Basic service, basic food and certainly not worth the hype.

Overpriced for what it is. £27.95 for a 2 course meal, per person. The service was great, and the ingredients do seem fresh, the starters were decent. However, the mains were a let down. Ordered breaded fried chicken with chips (pollo alla milanese), the chicken was quite thin, and the chips were not high quality. It is prepared well, however, for what it is, I would compare it similar to canteen food, and for the price, it is highly overpriced for what it is

First time visit and it didn’t disappoint. The restaurant was quiet on a Monday lunchtime. The staff were lovely and took us through the various menus on offer. The food was delicious especially the prawn salad. The wine of the month was very drinkable. Thanks to Penelope for the great service.
