Visited Harestanes to do circular walk up to Waterloo Monument. Treated ourselves to lunch at the cafe afterwards … what a great decision! Lovely modern contemporary decor in keeping with the rural countryside setting. Fab menu - caters for vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free. Husband slightly disappointed at lack of meat but enjoyed his halloumi bagel and my cheese stuffed waffle was amazing. Would def recommend a stop here if in the area.

Stayed for two nights with my wife and thoroughly enjoyed it. Stayed in the oak room which was lovely room. The bed was a little soft for my liking, (but as I’m not a complete wet wipe and it’s practically impossible to keep every different type of mattress, I managed) The room had a balcony which was a lovely place to stand in the morning and have a coffee. The breakfast (cheese and croissants, yoghurt, and cereal) was more than adequate and a nice light start to the day. We didn’t eat here the first night as we went to the Indian a few doors up, but enjoyed a few drinks in the bar, a lovely pint of Estrella, and my wife enjoyed sampling a few of the cocktails. The second night we ate in the bar, and must admit after reading some of the whinging reviews on here, I wasn’t expecting too much. I ordered the house burger and it was fantastic, not too big, the meat was delicious and came with a larger than average portion of fries. The bar had a good atmosphere., and the locals were very friendly. I read some of the reviews and honestly don’t know what some people are thinking sometimes. Most of the complaints seem like a “you problem” it’s a fantastic little hotel and would highly recommend staying here again.

Checked the sign on the door early in the day that clearly stated dinner was served on Sunday between 5pm and 7pm - we double checked this online. However, when we turned up at 6.30pm the place was empty and we were told they were closed. This is not the first time we have tried to eat here and been disappointed. Update your information, and make sure it’s accurate.

We stayed one night to attend an event being held in the hotel. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed - the bathroom is very dated and in need of a refurb- however at £95 for bed and a very good breakfast what’s not to like The staff are lovely- just wish dogs weren’t allowed in the restaurant there’s no need - can’t people leave their dogs alone for an hour

Nice cake and coffee, but bit of a disappointment after reading online recommendations- limited selection other than scones and cake, and the staff not very friendly compared to other individual cafes: thought this would be something a bit more unique and special : nice bookshop and store

What a disappointment, felt really let down as the pub says it dog friendly... NOT..!!! We arrived Thursday 17th October for 4 days expecting to eat, drink and be merry in the bar and restaurant only to be told that dogs (pups) were not allowed in the public bar, however we could sit outside... we all took a seat and asked if they could turn on the outside heaters only to be told they were not working and they hadn't worked for some time.... they advertise outside heating!!!!! We had no food with us for the first night, we all spent our evening in the van with the dogs and a rotten Chinese from the local village... NEVER AGAIN.. there was 8 adults and 1 child.. the whole point of us travelling here was to be together and waited upon with good food from morning to night for 4 days... we eventually left. DONT BE FOOLED... WE WERE....

We came her for Gluten Free Fish and Chips and were NOT disappointed. Gorgeous Gf fish (and specified Gf vinegar) a fabulous ordinary fish and chips and then 3 slice haggis supper! Local haggis was the best I've had. Cannot recommend highly enough. Worth a trip to sit in the shadow of the ruined Jedburgh Abbey on a quiet side street for fabulous fish and chips! We'll be back!

Some places accept dogs _ The staff at the Roxburghe love dogs. We have stayed in a two bed cottage, the Bowmont Suite and stay and King Estate Suite which all provide luxury and space. We are welcomed with open arms, as are the dogs, who can go everywhere bar the space, the find dining restaurant and the whiskey bar. Thanks for another great stay.

Having read some earlier reviews I was a little apprehensive but can assure prospective customers that the poor reviews are really not justified .Yes the menu choice was small but the three of us had different main courses and we agreed all were delicious. Luckily my wife's haddock and chips was too large a portion so I had to help her finish it. What a hardship! Nice crisp batter and triple cooked chips. Service was adequate, if a little slow, but we were not in a hurry. Nice ambience and reasonably priced.
