Superb room, great breakfast. Good restaurant within walking distance. All in all a great value hotel. Highly recommended.

Visited Harestanes to do circular walk up to Waterloo Monument. Treated ourselves to lunch at the cafe afterwards … what a great decision! Lovely modern contemporary decor in keeping with the rural countryside setting. Fab menu - caters for vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free. Husband slightly disappointed at lack of meat but enjoyed his halloumi bagel and my cheese stuffed waffle was amazing. Would def recommend a stop here if in the area.

I booked a Deluxe Junior Suite for 4 adults. On the positive side, the suite was clean throughout, including the rooms and bathroom, and the shower pressure was great. The late check-in process went smoothly, and all staff were friendly. However, despite these positives, I wouldn't recommend staying here. The bedding wasn't set up for 4 adults, even though there were a few hours between booking and check-in. The included breakfast was disappointing—it consisted of a croissant, cheese, milk, and juice left in the fridge, with no mention that it was a cold continental breakfast. Lastly, two of our group had a terrible night's sleep because the sofa bed had broken springs and offered no support, sofa bed seemed broken overall.

Checked the sign on the door early in the day that clearly stated dinner was served on Sunday between 5pm and 7pm - we double checked this online. However, when we turned up at 6.30pm the place was empty and we were told they were closed. This is not the first time we have tried to eat here and been disappointed. Update your information, and make sure it’s accurate.

Not a great welcome and the service barely existed. We felt we were intruding. The bread & oil/balsamic was an expensive disappointment. Two slices (4 halves) of Inexpensive characterless white bread for £6.50? The venison pie was excellent but the vegetables tasted as if they were covered in oil or some such. My wife’s fish was good but 2 glasses of expensive wine and a bill for £75 just didn’t seem just. Sadly we won’t be returning. And I think they knew they had failed us.

Lovely proper bookshop with a cafe and deli. We were just after a quick coffee but couldn't resist trying the delicious cakes. The flat white was good, strong and hot but rather a small cup. Cakes were as good as they looked. Bought a few books for the Grandchildren and had a browse around the well stocked deli. Loved spotting authors we knew from the pictures on the wall. Will visit again when in the area.

Unbelievably Good All Round! Lovely greeting on arrival, asked if we had been previously. We said no, so the 'system' was explained before we were escorted to our table. Noted there was a mix of families with young children right through to elderly and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. After our drinks were served we made our way to the carvery. Chef again gave us a warm welcome and said we could have a piece of each roast item ( beef, turkey and gammon) if we wanted or whatever took our fancy. Also, for those who weren't up for roast, there was steak pie or mac and cheese (you could have either of these AS WELL as roast if you wanted!!). Feel free to mix and match!! There was an array of veg to choose from; carrots, peas, broccoli; red cabbage, cawli cheese, beetroots; white cabbage, turnip (think there might have been others I've missed); three gravies; vegetable, turkey and beef. What a spread! I had a slice of the three roasts and several veggies, Yorkshire pud and stuffing (wasn't the best stuffing, although passable), all delicious. Complemented by a varied sweet menu, I had the tiramisu cheesecake, superb! The restaurant was busy, but not overly so, always a good sign in my book as to how good the food is. Top tip, reserve a table before you go. Waiting staff were efficient and friendly also, but not intrusive. This was our first visit to the Tavern Restaurant, would highly recommend this restaurant and will most definitely be back! Thank you all!

We came her for Gluten Free Fish and Chips and were NOT disappointed. Gorgeous Gf fish (and specified Gf vinegar) a fabulous ordinary fish and chips and then 3 slice haggis supper! Local haggis was the best I've had. Cannot recommend highly enough. Worth a trip to sit in the shadow of the ruined Jedburgh Abbey on a quiet side street for fabulous fish and chips! We'll be back!

Some places accept dogs _ The staff at the Roxburghe love dogs. We have stayed in a two bed cottage, the Bowmont Suite and stay and King Estate Suite which all provide luxury and space. We are welcomed with open arms, as are the dogs, who can go everywhere bar the space, the find dining restaurant and the whiskey bar. Thanks for another great stay.

Having read some earlier reviews I was a little apprehensive but can assure prospective customers that the poor reviews are really not justified .Yes the menu choice was small but the three of us had different main courses and we agreed all were delicious. Luckily my wife's haddock and chips was too large a portion so I had to help her finish it. What a hardship! Nice crisp batter and triple cooked chips. Service was adequate, if a little slow, but we were not in a hurry. Nice ambience and reasonably priced.
