Lilliardsedge Tavern Bar in Scottish Borders

We were staying in the holiday park for a week and we used the restaurant twice, once for a takeaway and once sitting in. The service was quite slow on both occasions, noone ever checked in with us to see if things were ok, the decor is beautiful however, the food was alright but nothing amazing portions were average size and certainly not worth the high prices being charged! It cost over £ 80 for 3 people to have 2 courses plus 1 drink each which is very expensive! The website doesn't even have upto date menu on it and there is no menus in the lodges, the staff just read the menu out to you if you phone. Improvements are needed to this restaurant in all areas.

A pleasant stopover en route to Mull. Busy venue given holiday and camping site. We managed to get in ok without needing to book. Really good and friendly service from waitress. We were happy to be served and both enjoyed the meals in an enjoyable and convenient setting. A welcome start to the holiday.

Decided to book here for a Sat night to have a few drinks & a meal. Lovely decorated and busy. Staff warm & welcoming. Got our drinks and order taken quickly. We had starters of Haggis Bon Bons & Buffalo Chicken Wings which were very tasty & good portion size. Unfortunately that’s where the positives end. We had a ver long wait until our main courses. My husband had the steak pie with mash. Plenty of tender meat in the steak pie but he said the mash was the worst he had every tasted. Cold & lumpy! I had the seafood linguine which was meant to be with a cream & white wine sauce. There was about 3 inches of oil in the bottom of the dish which was very off putting. No evidence of cream and the seafood was rubbery and very chewy! I was not able to identify some of the seafood & there was a few hard shells in it also. Was really looking forward to this meal so very disappointing when it’s on our doorstep. Another person complained about their burger being cold while we were there. Probably won’t be back unfortunately.

The facility is nice, clean and modern, good bar and the menu is appealing. Unfortunately the final product is lacking. We arrived 30 mins early for our booked table. We were eventually given a couple of tables for a party of 8. It’s was unfortunate because the table we were given was right at the bar so it was loud and noisy. Since there was a group of 8 of us we had to pre order our food a few days in advance, which we thought was a bit strange. I chose the buffalo wings for starters which were very good. The meat came off the bone and the flavour was great. It had a little kick but not too spicy. Others got haggis bon bons which I think they enjoyed. A couple of the party shared garlic pizza bread which didn’t look all that great. For mains I got the ribeye cooked to medium rare. My mother in-law also got a ribeye but asked for well done. My father in-law got the sirloin (medium). Firstly there wasn’t much difference between the steaks. I wasn’t convinced mines was actually a ribeye. I asked a young waitress what it was and she was like “uhhh”, clearly not having a clue. Sadly, my steak was cooked more on the medium/well done side. I also found that it wasn’t very thick and it was tasteless. I smothered the steak in the peppercorn sauce to try and give it some flavour. Sadly the sauce wasn’t creamy in the slightest. It was more like a gravy with peppercorns through it. The chips were triple cooked and were fluffy inside, although there were a few break your teeth ones which were obviously overcooked. My wife got a burger which she enjoyed. The chips that came with hers were skinny ones and pretty dull to be honest. My sister-in law got the salmon for her main which I think she liked. My brother in-law got the fish and chips and my grandad got the scampi and chips. Portions were quite big and I think they enjoyed it. My niece got a pizza. Boyo, this was one of the worst pizzas I’ve seen. Extremely soft and soggy. Hardly cooked on the undercarriage and it didn’t taste all that great. It reminded me of a pizza you would get at a chippy but worse. For dessert I go the rice pudding which was very good. It wasn’t mushy, just the way I like it. My wife got the sticky toffee pudding which she thought was burnt. We had a mixture of drinks between us. My father in-law had a glass of read wine and he had noticed that the wine had stained the glass. Manager was nice and gave him a free drink. Now the bill was very interesting. When we first got it, luckily we had eagle-eyed Megan who was able to spot that there were several items on the bill that were added (e.g. pineapple juice, cups of tea, additional cokes and a few other things). Very strange. Staff quickly resolved this. The following day we went back for the carvery. We got better seats this time. The carvery itself is reasonably priced at around £14. My niece is a bit of a fussy eater and wasn’t keen on a carvery but the waitress offered to give her chips and chicken nuggets from the kids menu which we accepted. The carvery, like much of the food, was a mix bag. The gammon, turkey and pie was delicious. It had great flavour and very tender. Unfortunately, the roast potatoes were terrible. They seemed very stale and not very appetising. I didn’t really enjoy the stuffing balls and the veg was ok. When went to pay, again we noticed the bill was wrong. We were charged for 2x children’s chicken nuggets and chips. The waitress that took our orders said that’s she told us that child portions are small and that we agreed to a double portion. This was a complete lie. She said nothing about a double portion. We disputed this and the waitress tried to defend herself and was quite rude. Thankfully, the manager stepped in and amended the order and the waitress dropped her device and stormed off in a huff. Ok she may have been angry at us for calling her out but that’s no way to act. I think she needs to work on her customer service a little but she will learn from this experience. Anyway, not the best place to go for food but I am sure they’ll improve.

We were a party of 12 for a Sunday carvery. We were seated through in the back area which wasn't an issue, however it took 30 minutes to get everyone a drink with our carvery tickets being presented to us at 1pm, we were instructed to go up 6 at a time, which again wasn't a problem however once the second party of 6 were able to go for their meal there was 3 other tables in-front of them! No complains were given for the standard of the carvery which was excellent, the major issue was after. At 1:45 our plates were cleared and dessert menus were handed out, at 1:45 we were quickly told our table was only available to us until 2pm. Quickly ordering the desserts we were told they had to be in takeaway boxes and could be eaten outside or in the marquee. Once the desserts arrived we were not allowed any cutlery to eat them even though we were all seated outside with another round of drinks. The most shocking discovery was that we were not offered any discount and were charged £6.95 per dessert (restaurant prices) to sit outside with no plates or cutlery! We are very disappointed with the service and it spoilt the birthday celebration we were trying to have. We have contacted them since and have not had a reply Very poor customer service

Four of us went for lunch and when we walked in we stood for a couple of minutes before anyone spoke to us, then were shown to a table. We ordered drinks and then our main courses. (No starters). They brought two of our mains, (nachos) but apologised that they had been put through their system as starters, and it would be a while before they could make the other two meals. They were a burger and a salmon salad. We then waited 15 minutes before the other two meals arrived. We told the waitress that the service was pretty poor and she apologised. She then came back and told us that we could have sweets and would not be charged for them. All in all a disappointing experience both from the service point of view and the fact that the food was fairly mediocre. I could have understood up to a point if the place had been really busy, but there were only a couple of other tables occupied at the time.

As a carvery goes, this was excellent. No hesitation whatsoever with a 5/5 rating. We visited Lilliardsedge on Father’s Day, the place holding a bit of nostalgia for me as I was involved in some architectural work for the chalets and the caravan park, many years ago. Although we had pre-booked, there was a bit of confusion with our seating plan, ending in us splitting between two booths of six. To be honest, this was completely forgotten about once the food was on my plate. The staff were apologetic as well. Honestly, the best selection i’ve been witness to in relation to a Sunday Roast (all hot and fresh). To start the ‘filling of the plate’, three meats (carved by the Chef, decent portions) and then the rest is up to you. A few items to mention - Macaroni and Cheese, massive Stuffing Balls, various types of Mash, Pie, Creamed Leeks, three Gravy types, gigantic Yorkies ….. The restaurant easily excelled other well known carvery businesses. As I say, i’ve only mentioned a few options above. For me, there is nothing worse than being ‘short-changed’ on a Sunday Roast. None of this ‘well presented’ stuff or minimalistic approaches - when you go out for this type of meal, you want to eat big. This restaurant offered that, and then some. Price wise, it was around £15.00 for the plate (free top-ups but trimmings only). I didn’t eat again until well later in the day, so it was great value for money. I’ll very much compare all future carvery visits against Lilliardsedge - it’ll take something special to beat it!

Amazing. Huge selection of perfectly cooked seasonal vegetable. Three meat choices. Fabulous service. Staff clearly work very hard. Beautiful venue.we will be back

We have a caravan on the park and visit regularly and have eaten at the Sunday Carvery as well as the normal restaurant on other days. Carvery is great with a good choice of meats and lots of veg. The restaurant menu is also good and we have enjoyed everything we have ordered here. Staff are lovely and it is a nice place to relax. We have dogs and have sat outside with them in the summer but it would be great if there was even a small area inside where you could have the dogs inside in the colder weather.

We had booked the Santa visit and decided to also book the carvery afterwards. We had booked a table but had arrived very early so had a drink at the bar before the Santa visit - we informed the gentleman at the desk that we had arrived and if our table was ready early we would be more than happy to eat earlier. We had a drink then it was time for our Santa visit. The Santa visit was okay - had been to better that was cheaper but was fine for what it was. We informed the gentleman again that we were there and again sat in the bar area until our table was ready. It had gone past our booking time so we had approached the desk again to be greated by a lovely lady who said she would find out was happening. We again waited for some time but had seen she had approached the gentleman that we had previous told. 20 minutes after our booking time a waitress was seen preparing a table in the bar area - not the main eating area. We concluded this was for us. The waitress then seated us here. We were told the children could get chicken nuggets and chips instead of the carvery so we ordered this for them. I would however avoid this - we were charged £7.50 each for a few chicken nuggets and some very overcooked french fries! However, we were later told when we queried the bill that the children could have had some veg from the carvery. We were never informed of this prior. We were given, however, £2 off the bill. The carvery itself was good - what we had anyway - i don’t think there was a smany choices as ther ehad been previously as by this point the carvery was no longer being served 10 minutes before we were seated/served. We again queried this - to be told we could have asked for something. Again, we were never told this before this point. Puddings were excellent. We later complained regarding the service we had received - our table had clearly been missed or double booked but no apology was ever given and unfortunately we were met with - complaints are handled via email not telephone. I emailed. 7 weeks on I am still awaiting a reply. So overall - although lilliardsedge has everything going for it - customer service is very very poor!

If anyone is in the Jedburgh/Melrose area I would highly recommend a visit to this little gem. Food was absolutely delicious, from haggis bonbon starters and chilli natchos to the corn fed chicken and salmon mains both my husband and I enjoyed. So nice we’re heading back for the Sunday roast!!!

We often come out to the tavern bar for meals, normally the food is fantastic but I was a bit disappointed with the food this time, wasn’t as fresh and the chips seemed like reheated chips. Knowing that the service and food is usually to a high standard I found this very strange.

Meal with family. All of our meals were very good, the serving staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Only given it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is a bit pricey but I guess that’s not unexpected for a holiday park. Will definitely come again.

2nd visit here and yet again had a fantastic time. Food excellent and staff went above and beyond. Already thinking about our next trip. Fantastic location and park is kept impeccable clean.

We have just had a fabulous meal at The Tavern Bar. An almost all you can eat Carvery as I was told that I could go back for more veg. There is a choice of three roasted meats (turkey, pork and roast beef) served with yorkshire pudding(s) and their famous steak pie AND a plethora of vegetable dishes including potatoes three ways. It were (the grammatical error is intentional) bloody marvelous and well worth the money, in fact, I think they are under charging. To follow we shared a slice of extremely lush belgian chocolate cheese cake with pouring cream. An Americano each rounded off the meal perfectly.

The staff were very accommodating on our first visit. We arrived 10 minutes before they finished serving evening meals but they still cheerfully welcomed us. All meals are £11 each or two for £20 with a few items requiring the addition of between £1 & £2. So far we have been twice. On our first night I had the haddock & chips. The portion was humongous - there was enough fish to do both of us plus a decent portion of chips served with garden peas and tartare sauce. My partner had the bbq beef burger topped with monterey jack cheese. Chocolate fudge cake with pouring cream and two coffees made our meal complete.On our second visit I had the chef's own vegetable lasagne with chips and my partner had the chef's own chicken curry with rice and naan bread (£1 extra) followed by toffee apple pie with ice cream for me and Belgian chocolate cheese cake with pouring cream for him and a cup of coffee each. Again both meals were lovely. The staff were very nice and are a credit to their employers. The Tavern is located to the right as you enter the caravan park and very hard to miss. Dogs are allowed at the outside tables only. The staff maintain a high level.of cleanliness throughout The Tavern while the actual carsvan site is very tidy, well maintained and quiet when we visited.

We have had our first ever meal here as it was recommended by a friend. We will definitely be back. We had the fish and chips and a pizza. Both were excellent. Fish fresh, chips triple cooked I think. Pizza was delicious, I had some boxed up to take home! Lovely atmosphere, family-friendly without being noisy. Staff were helpful, polite and welcoming. Highly recommend a visit!

Well set out campsite, toilets were clean and cleaned regularly, visited the tavern bar on the Saturday afternoon sat outside, tables were socially distanced, track and trace in place, tavern directly opposite the play park. Table service only, outdoors as well. Found the whole campsite clean and tidy and well maintained. Staff lovely helpful and friendly all wore masks.

Enjoyed 2 nights of beautiful food at the Tavern bar while staying at Lilliardsedge for Valentines weekend. Nothing was too much trouble and the food we ordered was beautifully presented and very tasty. So good that we had 3 courses each! We ordered steaks both nights which were cooked to perfection and served with a lovely mushroom sauce. Baileys mousse for dessert was to die for! Would highly recommend a visit.

First visit here with hubby to try the carvery for Sunday lunch. Very nice! Staff were lovely and welcoming, efficient and friendly. Carvery was a choice of three meats (turkey, gammon or beef) along with steak pie - you could have them all if you want, generously dished up by the chef. Then it’s a ‘help yourself’ selection of Yorkshire puddings, sage and onion stuffing, lots of vegetables, all well cooked and tasty (especially liked the rosemary mushrooms and the cheesy leeks) lovely gravy and sauces to accompany everything too. Left absolutely stuffed, sadly with no room for dessert! Will definitely visit again, even for a coffee and a bit of cake. Great value too at only £10.95 per person. Plenty of parking, and just off the main road, so easy to get to. Well worth a visit!

Recommend, visited today with daughter and son in law. Choice of vegetables outstanding. No thin slices of meat but nice chunky slices. Friendly staff and a nice welcoming atmosphere, definitely be back 5 star

We had carvery today as we have had regular over last two years as it's usually as good as you can get but today wasn't at its best in my opinion the beef on carvery had blood running out of it ( which is ok if you like it rare) and the mashed potatoes were lumpy and tasteless( cooked without salt ) Tennant's lager didn't taste very good but great choice as usuall will be back hopefully beef will have a choice of cooked or half cooked

We have visited the Sunday Carvery several times here recently. In addition to being good value, it has a great range of three roast meats with about seven accompanying vegetables. Help yourself means that it really fills the space. Meals start at noon and we usually book ahead just to make sure.

I was staying in Jedburgh for the weekend and found this place out of the blue offering a Sunday roast. What a great find it was, £10.95 for a Carvery offering 3 large slices of meat or their own Pie, any number of Yorkshire Puddings and the list of veg was of the chart. Tasted delicious and totally worth the money. Would highly recommend for those staying in the area. Will be back if back down this way.

Just had another great meal at the Tavern Bar. The sea bass was delicious finished off with an amazing chocolate torte. I will be back soon.

My partner and I booked Lilliardsedge for a short camping break and took our dog also. We were lucky enough to have good weather on our break. This is one of the nicest holiday parks we have stayed in and will definitely be returning in the future. Location is great, park is well maintained, staff were really nice, great atmosphere and we felt safe.We didn't get the chance to try the food but did have a drink outside in the beer garden.

me and my partner went for a anniversary meal food was amaxing but without mentioning names the waitress with all the tattoos was to busy flirting with my partner could hear her vile conversation behind the bar anout sexual things the lot on her phone. the way she spoke to me at the table was stroppy because she got my drinks order wrong honestly the girl shudn t b in hopitallity would rather let the rest of the hard working team do everything for her!!!!! will not be returning and have already put the word about

Hidden gem off A68 just north of Jedburgh. Free ample car park ING. Situated in Grounds of Lilliardsedge Caravan Park. Staff friendly, lunch menu, Spicy Lentil Soup, Lasagna and Haddock and Chips ordered. All delicious. Restaurant bright and welcoming. Highly Recommended. Will definitely be back.

We’d heard that this was a great place for a Carvery with choices of 3 meats, Beef, Turkey and Gammon. The meats were delicious, really well cooked and presented with attentive service.Between us we sampled all 3 meats and most of the ‘unlimited’ vegetables. As stated the meats were very good, though the vegetables seem to have mostly been taken from the freezer.The cauliflower was unpleasantly wet and rather tough and overcooked, and the Brussels sprouts were only slightly better. I might have given 3 rather than 4 stars but I have to believe that this can be easily remedied so 4 stars is fair as the most important element, the meat, was very tasty.Finally, the meal for 2 of us with just one Diet Coke between us came to around £24.

We came here this week for my son's 3rd birthday as we was staying at a lodge on site. I ordered the duck breast and it was beautiful, it even looked fantastic the way it was plated. My partner ordered the steak pie and thoroughly enjoyed it. The children had the kids meals and they was very generous in size. Claire who served us was so lovely with my children and even put a little candle on the birthday boys pudding. It's definitely somewhere worth eating. The puddings was delicious too

I came here with my friend and my little girl in November, for Sunday Carvery. We thoroughly enjoyed it, the meat was of a really good quality, and all the vegetables etc were fresh and hot!

carvery to die for,lovely and tasty meat with loads of veggies and thick gravy,yum. Second time we've been here and it never disappoints.

We regularly stay on the caravan park and use The Tavern Bar. The food is great quality good pub grub. There is regular entertainment and the staff are friendly and efficient. Great place to enhance the caravan park.

Came to the caravan park for 5 days.had lunch in bar/restaurant,it was very nice lots of choices. Friendly kind ,polite staff. Nothing was a problem.would certainly use this restaurant again during our stay.

Food is basic pub grub but tasty and well presented - service very cheerful and friendly, although the decor could do with being updated

We were camping (recommend too). Had dinner at the Tavern Bar, it has three parts, the restaurant, bar and function room. I guess the die hard caravaners know the score in terms of when to go for dinner and still get a seat in the function room, we didn’t.

My family and I usually go for the Sunday carvery which is always good and great value for money. We decided to go mid week and it didn't dissapoint. The hardest thing was deciding what to have from their extensive menu. Which again is good value for menu. Daily specials on offer as well making the desicion even harder. Finishing off our meal with a lovely homemade dessert. Not forgetting the great staff who are professional and friendly and nothing is too much bother. Can't wait to return to try the rest of the menu.
