Costa Coffee in Scottish Borders

From a design and decorative perspective Costa Coffee in Peebles is a distinctly average branch of the chain and the overall look is drab and dowdy. Staffing and service also seemed on the downside with only takeaway cups being used and no plate provided for our piece of cake. The coffees were fine.

Two young girls working. Not a smile between them. The gentleman in front of me asked for a knife and it seemed like a total incontinence to the girl. The cup was almost launched at the tray. Neither of them have any social skills and probably shouldn't worked with the public. A smile costs nothing.

Went in here for a coffee with friends. Counter filthy dry .coffee spilt everywhere. Tables not cleaned after customers left .tables were sticky .floor dirty .staff busy chatting to bother with cleaning .

It wasn’t particularly busy, but I had to clear my own table. Noted crisps on the seating and on the floor. After about 10 minutes groups of unaccompanied schoolchildren arrived sharing 1 bag of crisps between 3 and making lots of noise. Sorry, really wasnt a good experience.

Popped in for an afternoon coffee which was excellent as expcected but the thin g that sets this costa apart was the great service we got. I don't review costa's as they are pretty much all the same but the service here was excellent sorry wish I had paid better notice to the young girl that served us, well done her.

Very handy cafe in the High Street, if the tables at the windows are taken, it looks full, however we discovered there is more seating through the back. So take time to check inside. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Tried to get a coffee in here today.We were told by an abrupt lady -----"takeaway only".No use to us.We wanted to sit inside on a snowy March day.In fact this is not the first time this place has been doing takeaway only.We have noticed it,s frequently closed because of"maintainance issues"!Really Costa!You should get your act togeth

Floor dirty, doors dirty, toilet floor strewn with toilet paper. No evidence of tables being sanitised . Worrying with risk of Covid still. Staff a little dismissive and offhand.

This place is amazing the Cappuccinos fantastic very handy whe waiting for a bus as it’s only across the road

My friend and I come hear most days staff friendly helpful efficient coffee great good bacon & sausage rolls and the best toasty cakes aren’t bad either sitting area clean tidy can’t fault it

I visited the Peebles branch of Costa with my 11 year old son who has a severe peanut allergy. Cameron could not have done more to ensure that my son was safe in his choice of drink. He was caring and kind and made my son feel welcome ( not always the case in cafes/ restaurants). Thank you Cameron. Your kindness made our holiday.

Disappointed with lack of cleaning 4 tables after visitors left,also a member of staff walking about with mask under chin,

Dropped in for mid morning coffee . Tables set well apart and staff are wiping down a table as we enter . Masks are worn in the public area . Staff are polite and friendly although it is a pain hearing what they are saying through the masks (I suppose it is the new normal ) As usual we had Lattes and toasted teacakes and did not have long to wait ....We will be back !

Usual high standard of coffee and cakes. Covid procedures well managed. However, get those toilets opened - public toilets are all closed so where are you meant to go? Ridiculous!!

My first visit to Scottish Costa. I think this was the 1st day of allowing customers to sit inside. A bit disorganized if you ask me considering they had 5 months to prepare for this event. Staff stressed and it showed which was a shame. No atmosphere at all, just dull and lifeless. No free newspapers to read ( is this the 'norm' in Scotland? ). Coffee okay, but surely the staff will get better in time. Good luck. G.T.

Called in here while staying in Peebles - the coffee was the usual Costa coffee which was good on a cold morning! The cafe was very clean and the toilets were also in very good, clean condition! The staff were friendly and helpful!

Dropped in early for a latte and toasted Teacake .Warm friendly smile from the staff medium latte ,just right ,sitting watching the butter melt on my teacake ahh!! life is good . There is a great consistancy of quality in this coffee chain ,you know what you are getting no matter which branch you are in . Well done management and staff !

Just your average Costa coffee. Always pretty full because people seemingly buy one drink and stay for hours. Best toilet in town which is meant to be for guests only but if you nip through the back door they never notice.The place isalways clean and in the centre of town.

The staff were very attentive and helpful. We ordered coffees and the barrister was not happy with the freshness of the milk so she refused to use their supply and organised fresh coffees for us.

We visit a lot of Costa Coffee shops on our travels and this one is a wee gem - the staff are friendly and they always have time for a wee chat whilst always getting your order right every time

Costa is coffee! Snacks are expensive though, and tables were not cleared quickly. However the barista and the lady serving were eficient and pleasant

This has been our first choice to go for a coffee since it opened in Peebles. The cafe is always well kept with clean tables, a nice ambiance and the young staff are always attentive and efficient. Not been disappointed so far and will no doubt revisit again

A typical Costa. Great coffee friendly staff & decent choice of food. Such a handy location too easy to just pop back for an extra hot drink to keep out the cold

This was our second visit to this place. Lovely views of the High Street. Decent service and very good quality coffee. Can’t comment on the food but I would be more than happy to recommend for a coffee

Popped in for quick lunch today. Food was passable. Cafe is dreary and cold with no atmosphere. Whole place could do with a good clean. Coffee making area looks filthy. Staff not very engaged. Best asset is corner location with big windows.

Visited costa Peebles on Sunday 16th September , Bought a filled wrap , after starting to eat I discovered it was USE BY the previous day , and so were others on shelf !!!!

We entered the coffee shop hoping for a quick snack and a coffee. Unfortunately, the young lady behind the counter seemed to be more interested in talking to what seemed like a friend at the same time as taking my order. She got the order right but friendliness and taking time to greet with a smile was non apparent. Came across as unfriendly.

This chain of restaurants is throughout the UK and they make a good cocoa and have a nice selection of pastries and breakfast bars.

At the end of the day it is a Costa Coffee shop selling the same stuff they sell in every other shop.

Usual standard of fare and drinks available, toilets are located upstairs so might be a problem for some.

Popped in for an early evening coffee and some food to eat in and takeaway. Staff were amazingly friendly considering it was the end of the day. Coffee was superb, food was great and I’d defo come back.

I don’t like writing a review with the heading “A bit tired” but despite the spaciousness of this Costa the fabric on the wall seats was quite grubby and stained and I don’t like to see that!

Quick afternoon break on our way back to Edinburgh after visiting Dawyck Gardens. Easy to get in and out. First visit to a Costa Coffee while in UK. Staff was mostly helpful.

Although this is part of a chain Costa’s in Peebles is a welcome addition to the town. It’s fairly large with plenty of seating. The staff are good and provide local information if required. My only criticism is that when I was there a couple of weeks ago. The toilet was out of service, but apart from that this is a good place to meet friends in a relaxed clean atmosphere.

First visit to Costa Coffee in Peebles High Street. You know what you are getting and situated on a busy corner of the High Street.

We dropped our daughter for wark and decided to go for a coffee and liked it very nice and clean and Peebles is nice town

Staff make this Costa-always very cheerful and chatty and willing to help. It’s clean and modern and comfortable to sit over a fab latte and delicious cake. Very relaxed and a good place to visit when in Peebles

Costa coffee Peebles i go there every Sunday the staff are all very good at there job and the coffee is first class and so are the breakfast rolls

First time visit with my family ,I am not really a coffee shop person ,but the staff were so friendly and efficient that I enjoyed my visit and will return when next in Peebles. It should do well as Peebles is coffee shop type town.

This is the third visit , and yet again , I was not disappointed . They are clearly doing well , as it was the Saturday , and although they have loads of tables to sit , virtually all were taken , which is a great sign that the Coffee is excellent .

Stopped for coffee, it has been a year since we last visited and my oh my what a difference a year makes.....standing and looking over the counter you can see how dirty the place is, obviously area managers do not visit this store very often! Zero customer service from any of the counter staff apart from "Who's next", there was no interaction from anyone, the place just needs some maturity behind the counter to pull the younger ones in line, seeing crumbs and wrappers being wiped to the floor and tables left with spillages on them and customers cleaning themselves with paper napkins is just not good enough. Take a look at your walls, down the sides of the material chairs, the gap between the metal (Bronze wall divider) on the floor....revolting layered filth, your fridge doors, counter surfaces and chopping boards. EHO would have a field day. Avoid.

Needed coffee over a business meeting so popped in here. Located in the centre of town on busy high street. Coffee is good, as are the snacks and cakes.

Looking around the shops and little alleyways and courtyards in this pretty town is ok, but this morning it was raining.

Decided to stop by costa after a little bit of shopping. The staff were pleasant but the drinks we ordered were far too hot and had to be left for a long time to cool down, overall an average cafe experience

visited twice while on holiday first time for coffee and cold drinks second time we had gone for brekfast only to find no breakfast sandwiches at 9am and only a couple of choices of toasties. We decided to have muffins and pastries till we saw two flies sitting on them. i told the manageress and asked if they had anymore that hadn't been on display and explained about the flies. she said no just them and shrugged. I am sorry if anybody thinks i am being picky but with my condition i cannot take risks with food. If you had seen what flies do on food under a microscope i am sure you would feel the same.

I live in thios place when I am not living at home. Staff are great and in all other respects it is as much like any other Costa anywhere in the world.

Ideal for a caffeine boost in the High Street. Tables outside for enjoying the sunshine; a rare delight in Scotland.

I frequent Costa in Peebles on an average of twice a week.

Nice place on the Main Street for a coffee, and to people watch. Informative and friendly staff good selection of cakes

This is my second Visit to this Costa Coffee - its a popular Coffee Shop and the barista's are very efficient and friendly - It needs to be a decent size as the Coffee Shop is always busy when I go there on a Saturday , for my Large Cappuccino

Was in Costa yesterday afternoon with my two Sons, Daughter in Law and two young Grandchildren, selection of drinks both hot and cold, two toasties selection of cakes all for under £30 , The staff were lovely and friendly, took time to talk to the children, it was very clean, although there was a lot of families with small children it wasn't in anyway noisy, I would highly recommend a visit to Costa if your in town

Always good to refresh and unwind at Costa Coffee .. Good place for a coffee and or a snack. Very friendly and enough place to sit and in the Main Street of Peebles.

This is a lovely addition to the Peebles High Street. However, being a regular visitor to Costa elsewhere, I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of gluten free options on offer for eats. There was a pre-packed brownie and pre-packed miniature bakewells but nothing else. Most Costas have wraps etc in the food area and pecan pies etc as the cakes selections. This surprised me, as almost all restaurants in Peebles provide god gluten free alternatives, showing it is a popular request in the area. Perhaps they were simply sold out. Coffee, as always, was delicious!

Very strange way of ordering your food and drink at the counter and the language barrier of the waitress didn't help I'm afraid. Once the food and drink came, mine was distinctly average but my partner said her cappuccino was excellent and her toastie, tasty.

Snazzy shop, best location of the high street, cheery friendly staff ! And the coffee is spot on ! ! !

Friendly staff and good service.....only thing is if you're eating / drinking in, avoid sitting near the door as it doesn't like staying closed and so you'll freeze in the winter!

Typical chain coffee bar but in a beautiful town and a historic building. Light, airy and sunny and a peaceful place to sit and people watch - decent coffee served quickly.

This was my first visit to this particular Costas in Peebles. Formerly called Veitchs' which was a gents outfitters, this Costas is situated at the end of the High St, near the Mercat Cross. It is of a good size and very comfortable inside. Tables cleared in a timely manner and the shop which has nice large windows offers nice views of the adjoining streets. Would happily recommend

Called in at Costa on a hot and sunny day to get a quick coffee to go and sit down by the river. As ever Costa coffee is good and quick to go.

Really nice Costa, bright and modern with plenty of seating as you walk through. Some staff was nice and friendly and others weren't didn't have to wait long for our toasties.

Costas in Peebles has the same range of beverages as their standard fare in the big cities. Range of luscious cakes and biscuits and well prepared coffee and tea selection. Where this particular branch scores is the roomy nature with lots of comfortable seating. Private areas if you like of lots of window arrangements if you are a dedicated poseur of people watcher. Staff are attentive and efficient and our table was spotless, even on a busy Saturday!

Decided to take wee chill out break and had Medium Latte which was ample size. Shared a nice Belgium Chocolate along with fruity flapjack. Enjoyable ambiance and toilets on first floor with disabled on ground floor. Worth the wee break fro. Shopping

Nice coffee and cake, Juices and sandwiches available, but like every Costa, overpriced and service vary's. Plenty seating, and very comfy. Some outdoor table and chairs to use when the sun is out. Disabled access and baby changing facilities.

When I go for coffee, I don't want to listen to staff squabbling amongst themselves and being rude about each other. Sort it out and train your staff properly. Learn about customer service.

Coffee with a friend. I like what Costa have done with this old shop. It's a busy place. The staff seem to be rushed of their feet & some of the staff members attitude needs to change !

Pleased Costa was on the main street and not too busy on Saturday morning.They saved the day being here as my elderly mum had a hypo and the staff couldn't have been any nicer.Really appreciate all their help when I brought my mum in with 2friends.Blonde at desk very patient and Lisa very attentive.Really can't thank them enough.let us stay as long as we needed and popped back to say thank you again before we left to come for as we were just here in Peebles for a few days.Thank you once again.

After a difficult trip up from Seahouses we were pleased to see that Costa had opened in Peebles. There's a reassuring consistency about Costa. The staff were warm and friendly on our arrival. The coffee and [ especially ] the hot chocolate were of the usual high standard and the cakes were very nice. This is quality at a very reasonable price. Peebles is a beautiful town - filled with plenty of café options - but Costa's presence will keep everyone on their game.

Coffee and hot chocolate excellent. Customer service nil. A smile would not go amiss. It took absolutely ages for the baristas to make. My husband got quite impatient looking on. Goodness how long it would take if they were busy.

Visited about 1.30 on Sunday 24th April It's what Peebles needed, a successful coffee chain in a centrally situated position.

We came here with a couple of frenulums after our horrific Duke of Edinburgh experience, we didn't really fancy getting a coffee but the room was warm so we bought one coffee between five of us. it woulkd have been nice but my frenulum and I had an fight about whether or not we should drink coffee when it is still lava temperature or when it forms ice crystals, I was of the opinion that I should be able to eat my coffee with an ice cream scoop, but my frenulum disagreement. throughout this argument the old ladles in the shop were giving us heavy growlers for being lit. judging from my personal experience, if you want to get lit, costa coffee sells hot coffee please sir

A very nice old building tastefully done up. Very clean inside as you would expect as recently opened. Staff friendly, free wifi and great tea. Great to just sit, chill and read a free paper

Does it compare with others used

Great new place in town to meet with friends for a catchup , It's great to go in and find people of ALL ages . I enjoy sitting at the window seats and watching the world go by

This was our first visit to a Costa in several years, and will be our last for at least the same amount of time. Queing time was terrible, yet there were only 3 customers in front of me. The staff seemed occupied with anything except customer service, and he cost of 2 coffees and a piece of cake was £7, which is ridiculous.

Nicely refurbished, spacious with plenty of room. Veey popular with yummy mummies so can be quite busy, noisy at times. As always Costa coffee is good quality and reasonably priced.

A tidy wee corner location on the main road in Peebles. It is what Costa is, consistent, and a bit slow on the service side.

It was open, unlike some of the local places. Needed a hot drink so it fulfilled that criteria. Coffee was bland and weak but then that's what you expect. If I had time I'd head to Innerleithen to No1.

Sitting here you will feel very comfortable, clean and nice cafe. Also good for afternoon and morning tea, coffee.

Well situated , pleasant staff , great space for a relaxing coffee, meeting friends, catching up with the town buzz , Have been a few times so far . Lots of different age groups using it which is great . Good opening hours 7-7 . Enjoying having Costa here

We popped into Costas when we were staying at the nearby Peebles Hydro. As always for Costa the service and coffee were excellent. We loved the location and found ourselves a window seat where we could sit and relax and watch the world go by.
