Black Horse, Hawick in Scottish Borders

Great to see this place back open again.

Waited 35 mins for breakfast and then had ti wait 15 mins more for my partners omelette and 5 mins more for her toast. Will not be eating here again.

Prices shown on menu were out of date and not what we were charged. Service was slow and owner quite aggressive. Wouldn't go there again.

The people their are so friendly easy to talk too the food is really nice and in general would recoment u try here the music they play in the background was different then other but in a good way

Really not great. Cheap ingredients making the worst full Scottish I've had in many years. Service is painfully slow, wasn't even that busy.

What an absolute treat to discover this charming restaurant today. It’s been under new ownership for only eight weeks and a lovely place has been created; the decor is excellent and creates an authentic atmosphere. I had the special which was chicken masala today. Home-made by Mrs. Owner, it was delicious. I chatted with both of the owners; lovely people who deserve their new restaurant/bistro/café to be a good success. Thank you both for my lunch.

Quickly seated as it had an other couple. Went to the counter ordered pot of tea for two and two scones. One cup of stewed tea arrived when the waiter guessed something was wrong with one cup of tea with two people the penny dropped. The other cup arrived 5 mins later no scones. The problem was communication as only one of the three staff spoke English. Listening to the other couple they didn’t get what they ordered either. We didn’t bother waiting for the scones give up and left.

Visited the reopened Blackhorse cafe on 01/07/23. Was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and competitive prices. I had their special burger and chips. Excellent home made burger and proper chips. Delicious. I understand that in recent days they've had supply issues with food, and rhus have had to reduce the menu. I think the sudden popularity of the place has caught them off guard. Don't let this distract you from how good it is. I'm sure they'll resolve the issue sooner than later. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Support local business as good places to eat are few and far between.

Probably the worst coffee I've ever put in my face. Cold, cheap and disgusting.

Wasn't open, although according to the door, it was.

Not the best by a long way. Got 2 rolls, 1 bacon and one sausage. Despite only one other order being in for exactly the same, it took fully 20 mins to produce my rather small rolls . Bacon was thin and limp. Sausage was not great either. Expected better for £5! Won't be back

Disappointed. The decor is tacky, places smells of grease, coffee was very weak and poor quality. Food was not great, so many more cafes in Hawick which are better.

Poor. Over priced, poor quality, cheap products, no decaf coffee, mis-spelled menu (Schottish breakfast) and no haggis on the breakfast, with no explanation why. A shame, because the decor is great. Surly service too.

Had lunch with my partner yesterday and it was lovely. Great macaroni and cheese and she finished her fish and chips which is unusual for her. Polite and attentive staff .............. we will be back on our next visit to Hawick!

Outside seating on a very wide public pavement, tables well spaced but a bit of a thoroughfare. Had to pay at the point of ordering and the staff were not wearing masks, it didn't feel very safe. Omlettes were good though mine should have been ham and cheese and I got cheese and onion, no check back.

It's great to be able to sit down in a cafe again and the black horse is just the place to go for quick and friendly service good food and has all screens in place that's needed for covid 19

Stopped here for lunch. Had a tasty crepe and chips which were light and crispy. The only thing that spoiled it was due to the fact that it was outdoor dining we had people at the next table who took turns to smoke. Perhaps if eating outdoors has to continue the cafe could consider separating diners who smoke and those who don't.

Great little cafe. We stopped on our way back from Scotland, and were very impressed. Service was really quick, food and coffee was lovely. It's a shame it's so far from home.

Black horse cafe, new chef, food was lovley, recommend the fish and chips , food all so fresh, tasty and well presented, excellent value for money.

Nice pleasant surroundings, good bacon roll and cappuccinos for hubby and I. Ideally located and lovley staff..will go back!

We had asked for a menu as the blonde woman was walking back to behind were the till is ( menus should be on the table anyway) to be told ‘no I’m serving at the moment, you’ll have to wait’. But it was really rude the way she came across like she was on the defensive. So we waited but then she went to yet another table, so why didn’t we get our menu? I’m sorry but that was just taken the mic in the end! It’s the blonde woman with short hair, Scottish and can be rude. Never be back.

Hot chocolate was thick and lovely with big pile of cream and marshmallows with lovely service 😊

I was stopping in Hawick on business. From the outside, the Black Horse looks welcoming and appealing making it standout, while inside it looked brilliant and very clean.Staff were very welcoming, friendly and professional. I ordered the all-day cooked breakfast which was perfect in every way and included a great cup of coffee and toast. The rest of the menu looked as equally appealing as the high standard breakfast, Highly recommend The Black Horse in Hawick

Very friendly staff, had a fab pot of tea but - 15 min to do a bacon roll, and there were only 1 other table of 3 people !! Also, I asked for extra bacon - got 2 slices, so I'd hate to have the normal bacon roll. Roll was huge so needed at least 3-4 slices to make it worth while. Lovely fresh roll though. Cakes in display cabinet all neatly finished and wrapped in plastic - look like they would be old and stale. It feels like it's been an old pub, is still hot and stuffy with very tacky cheap and nasty decor. Radio playing behind serving bar on odd station and way to loud. May cheap plastic table cloths, and flowers, on table. Wouldn't go back.

Always had great food from here. Excellent staff and very good atmosphere, unusual but interesting decor.

Went here for lunch on our stay in Hawick. The service was good and we ate outside. I had baked potato which was nice enough and Hubby had lasagne. I would say they were nice and satisfactory for lunch time but not much choice for veggie although they did offer omlet if I wanted. Not fancy but plain tasty food.

We love the quirky decor and excellent service. Serves the best bacon roll for miles around. Favourite cafe in Hawick.

Stumbled upon this restaurant by chance today and were blown away with the quality of the food and the service. It wasn't busy when we went in but by the time we had finished our meal the restaurant was full. Our meals were fantastic and their 'Chunky Chips' just blew us away. Very clean establishment and the food was reasonably priced, well worth another visit in the near future.

Really nice and friendly service. Tea was good and we both managed to get 2 sized cups from the pot. Nice atmosphere in the cafe too

We popped into this traditional style cafe for hot drinks on a cold day and were welcomed by the friendly staff. The menu is typical cafe fare and the prices most reasonable. We only had coffee, tea and some cake and all were very good.This is certainly a cafe we would be happy to visit again.

This place is amazing, the staff are always friendly and welcoming, they always have a smile on their faces, the food is lovely and reasonably priced, fast service is a plus to this place as well, we have been twice and will be back again as its so good, our kids love going

The Black Horse opened a few months ago and my wife wife and I decided to try it out for a couple of lattes. Service was excellent and due to it being a lovely summers day, decided to sit outside making use of their comfortable seating. Lattes were excellent, reasonably priced and their main menu looked interesting and varied and again reasonably priced. The owners have done a great job of the inside of the cafe and love the decor, apart from the garish clash of colours on the exterior of the building. That aside, it would appear that this cafe has proved very popular
