Eating with a toddler is never an easy task! We took our three year old granddaughter to Harestanes and after a chilly hour at the play park we retracted to the cafe. The family area was a huge hit..not only for the young un but also for nana and papa! A brilliant idea with great toys and comfy couches and living room style decor. When the food arrived it only got better. The lovely waitress was happy to offer menu tweaks for our young lady who has a new favourite every second, and the adults found plenty to make their mouth water. Although not natural vegetarians the menu options were very enticing. We'll be back!

Stopped in after a long walk around the local area. We planned on visiting due to the menu catering for different dietary requirements. The food was excellent and the accompanying shop has some lovely treats too. If you absolutely must have meat in every meal you eat then this place is not for you. For everyone else its a perfect spot for lunch.

Visited Harestanes to do circular walk up to Waterloo Monument. Treated ourselves to lunch at the cafe afterwards … what a great decision! Lovely modern contemporary decor in keeping with the rural countryside setting. Fab menu - caters for vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free. Husband slightly disappointed at lack of meat but enjoyed his halloumi bagel and my cheese stuffed waffle was amazing. Would def recommend a stop here if in the area.

We were looking for lunch on a cycle ride when we stumbled upon this lovely “Eco coffee shop”. We ate in the courtyard a sun trap sheltered from the wind. The food is vegetarian and creative with vegan and gluten free options. I had a delicious bagel with sweet potato falafel, apple wood cheese and salad. Tricky to work out how to eat it but delicious. My husband had the soup and flat bread.

Absolutely amazing! Have a son with a dairy and soya allergy it was so lovely to go somewhere where he could have virtually everything on the menu. Completely stumbled across this place by accident last year and now we’re back in the borders on holiday we will 100% be back again! The food was absolutely delicious, huge variety, huge portions and reasonable considering the quality of ingredients.

At visitor centres and similar attractions one gets used to a certain level of quality and imagination in the food - usually fine, but rarely special unless you pay an arm and a leg. I am delighted to report that Out There Artisan serves up exceptionally tasty, fresh and original lunches at a very reasonable price. My savoury waffle with harissa and halloumi was full of fresh, zesty flavours and was hearty enough to satisfy my appetite after a 5 mile hike around the Waterloo monument - all for £10. The staff were lovely too! Heartily recommended

I was so happy to find such a beautiful cafe with a mouthwatering vegetarian menu! Really nice decor , cozy and inviting and friendly helpful staff. The highlight for me was the children’s offering , thrilled that for once it was choices our little girl ( almost two ) would enjoy rather than chips and pizza or hotdogs which would be wasted! Gorgeous fresh produce and the yummiest roasted cauliflower soup. Can’t wait to visit again!

My favourite cafe at the moment. I love the menu, plenty of light options and great coffee. Staff are lovely, and it’s a comfy relaxing place.

I go here often. I like the atmosphere and ambience- a good choice of non- intrusive background music and lovely polite and yes, serene, staff. Personally, I like their food based round the soup and sandwich formula. Tasty and different. Reasonable value taking into account massive running costs. These young people are involved in ownership of the business and deserve support. You can have a walk, visit the impressive wood showroom and also buy eco- friendly gifts in the foyer. Loads of tables outside ( for the exclusive use of customers) for when the weather is clement. Lovely radiant wood- burning stove inside as well.

We stopped for lunch here en route for Aberdeen. What a great find! The menu was more creative and better than most cafes. The food was delicious and the coffee, too. I loved how it was vegan and vegetarian. The decor was beautiful and the staff were so friendly too. We would definitely recommend this cafe.

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!
