The got our family trip to Scotland after worries over Covid, this was our last meal in Scotland and we are all so glad to have eaten here. The 10oz Scotch Sirloin was absolutely incredible, and would highly recommend to anyone visiting or in the area. The staff were friendly and helpful, even recommended the best whiskey options for me which was incredibly smooth. We will definitely be coming back! Couldn’t recommend enough, you will enjoy the food and service without fail.

The customer services is this establishment was terrible . After our party of 4 had finished our initial drink no one came throughout our meal to offer us anymore - there were no staff in the restaurant at all - one of our party walked to the local coop and bought a bottle of wine and we drank that with our meal - the service was so bad no one noticed. !!

Having visited the hotel a few times for lunch the food and service was always very good so decided to give there award winning breakfast a go wish we hadn’t bothered. Firstly when we arrived we were told to go through to the bistro for breakfast after sitting for a good 15mins with not a server in sight we were actually going to leave but I decided to go look for someone I came across someone at reception who was very apologetic and said there should have been 2 waitresses there not sure exactly were they had been they weren’t exactly rushed of there feet as there was only another 2 couples in when the waitress did arrive not even a apology for the wait she seemed like she couldn’t be bothered. The breakfast was just ok my husband had the mushroom omelette he said it was tasty but struggled to find the mushrooms 3 small slices in the omelette really I had the full Scottish which was ok but to not even get a slice of toast with it when it cost £11.99 I’m afraid I won’t be back

Faced with many Googled choices we picked this one only because we liked the website! And boy, we were not disappointed. Super, varied menu (see website) excellently cooked and presented, and totally at variance with the decor (distressed floor, distressed wall panelling, distressed furniture). A really good atmosphere, pity we only found it on the last evening of our holiday, we would have gladly returned again and again.

Lacklustre menu with a disinterest to some extent from the waiting staff - you know the feeling, you are just another person having a meal! Good Bistro effect. Ate here on two evenings. First night they had not logged our booking but food and service was very good. On the second night it appeared they had problems with their electronic order system and chaos reigned! Staff seemed unable to cope with the wrong meals going to the wrong tables. One couple walked out. The result was slow service and the scampi we had was ok but had been a little too long in the fried.

As a family we often eat at the Buccleuch and were intrigued to hear of the tapas brunch menu available on Saturday and Sunday. We were not disappointed; the meal was delicious and represented excellent value for money. A main attraction of the menu was the variety of dishes available; our personal favourites were the Smoked trout Florentine, Scotch sirloin steak, and Smoked haddock kedgeree but we heartily enjoyed all the dishes ordered. Called in here for breakfast which was no more than adequate and very expensive at £11. The waitress treated us as an inconvenience and appeared irritated and harassed despite there only being one other occupied table. A request for toast was greeted with a disbelieving sigh, she said she would have to have a rummage in the kitchen to see what could be found but not to expect anything quickly! A request for more coffee seemed similarly offensive! I would have expected and received more at a Wetherspoons for a third of the price!

Have been here several times now as part of a work related lunch and every time, there is a problem with someone's order. Every time. One person's meal is late, another's is undercooked, some else's is forgotten altogether. Just once it would be nice to turn up and everyone receive the meal they order at the same time as everyone else. Also, service can be slow, even when it doesn't seem that busy, and if you send back your burger because it is raw, you and everyone else in your party will be delayed another half an hour before you get a replacement.

Both my wife and myself found our food to be slightly undercooked for our tastes and the portions small against costs. The kitchen may have slightly rushed our meals as it appeared that a large party of locals occupied a table soon after we had placed our order. I can also say the soup is delightful and freshly made I ALSO adore the really nice Burgers they serve , no mass produced BOOKERS micro-waved food here !well worth a visit on the A68 !

I met up with family at the Bloo Coo for lunch on a Sunday. It's is a nice enough place, although the decor makes it look more like a cafe than a restaurant, with slightly small, bare tables. I had seen pictures of the Buccleuch Arms, which appears far more like a traditional coaching inn, so I was expecting the Bloo Coo to be the same, but it is much more modern in appearance. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I had expected something traditional. The Bloo Coo was a little more than half full when I arrived, with large family groups, including very young children, who seemed to be well looked after and made welcome. As I had reserved a seat there was no problem getting my table. The service was well timed; there was plenty of time to study the wine list and menu but we didn't fell like we were left untended by the waiter which meant the meal was relaxed. The menu had a good range of options, plenty of traditional meat dishes, and a number of fish and vegetarian choices, too. The haddock and chips was tasty, and not greasy, the steak and ale pie was rich in flavour, but not heavy and the braised beef was enormous, and extremely tender. All the dishes were well seasoned, although the tartar sauce with the fish was a little bland. The selection of desserts was also varied, and nicely presented, and the final bill was good value. All in all, a good value meal, a pleasant welcome and good service. Nothing out of this world, but everything above average.

The staff were familiar to us and were, as ever, exceptionally helpful and friendly. The wine list is extensive - with a great choice from reasonably priced to high quality reds. The food was tremendous. All of the food is sourced locally and this was demonstrated when the restaurant manager was able to talk us through the provenance of the local cheeses - which were delivered in the most generous portions I've ever seen. The food was exceptional and the price was rather less than you might expect to pay for such quality food. The hake was sensational. My husband and I came in for lunch with our little boy. This is an absolutely lovely Inn/Pub/Bistro. Everything is clean, classy and exceptional in every way. Food selection was varied and cooked to perfection. The only problem was this: I ordered a beet, blue cheese and walnut salad. My husband's order came as did our little boys'. Everything looked grande...and tasted as such. My plate was placed in front of me and my first thought was 1) Is this a joke 2) Did the chef just forget to put the food on the plate and the server just ran out with it without looking first. I am sure that somehow the chef felt that putting (10) 1 millimeter - sized items on a very large plate, at least 4 inches apart from each other, must be considered an "artistic display" but when someone is there to eat....that is what they want to do. It's great when something is presented well, but if you aren't in a gallery, then you'd expect to receive a plate with some food on it. What i received was a plate, pretty much empty, but with about 5 small pieces of multicolored beets, along with about 5 small blue cheese pieces, and a few random pieces of salad and walnuts. The dressing was amazing, but once i scooped it up to fit nearly all of it on to 2 spoon fulls in total, (for 7 British pounds) I felt a bit insulted. My husband joked, "Well, hope you're not TOO hungry!" Just not sure where things went wrong. Was it the way it was SUPPOSED to look, did the server forget to pick up all the lettuce that was meant to be on the plate? Did he accidentally pick up the wrong plate and gave me the one meant for the cat? We are still laughing about it...as there can only be a few possibilities. Being from the food industry, having just come from the Edinburgh Foodie Festival that weekend, we do consider ourselves folk who enjoy "nice food" but this was insane. Hoping that the manager reads this and tells someone to put food on the plates.Personally, I think the fault could possibly be with the server. When I was a server back in the 80's, if i saw someone order something as a main, and I knew that it consisted of 2 spoonfuls of food, I would have said something....in fact, I always said something. A kindly, "Oh, by the way, this is a very small plate, would you like to add a soup to this order?" .......rather than have a plate arrive in front of someone who who will be shocked and dismayed at what just came out of the kitchen.Just a heads up to Food and beverage personnel:-) Other than the plate of food with no food on it.....this was a lovely establishment!

Three options for eating, bar menu, Blue Coo Bistro food and Salmon Room for finer dining. Huge selection to choose from , the food was delicious , even the kids menu food was freshly prepared . The staff didn't make a fuss that we were sitting in the wrong area for the Bistro menu and happily offered us a choice from both. We sat inside but near the door to the beer garden which had a very nice kids play area. We visited with grandchildren , kids were welcome. Well worth visiting if you are ever in that area. If we didn't live so far away we would go there regularly.

We were early for lunch and only the second table to be seated in the Bistrot. It was a long time before our order was taken and 50 minutes before we received our meal. Bearing in mind the slowness of the service we had to leave without dessert or coffee. When we were asked the habitual, "Was everything all right", I mentioned the time it had taken to get our meal and that we had to leave without finishing. The response was, "But you won't let it stop you coming again." An apology and a voucher towards our next coffee/dessert might have helped, but with this response the jury is still out and we would prefer to eat at the Woodside Garden the next time we are in the area.

Dropped into the Blue Coo for lunch last weekend. Second time we have stopped here. The menu has just changed for the summer, the food is always good, plentiful and thoughtfully put together. And they have thought about their customer with dishes ranging from good solid fillers to the more dainty flavours and textures. And, of course, the Hardies Mill beef is always going to be first class!

I have had two meals here in the past week overall v impressed but had one major niggle. First visited for dinner with friends. Atmosphere was great the restaurant had a relaxed shabby chic vibe. Started with a selection of nibbles I can highly recommend the sweet potato fries. The steaks went down well with the other guests and I was pleased with the vegetarian option. Not a huge choice of vegetarian meals but a couple of salads and one hot dish. Sweets very good 5 or 6 choices with lots of ice cream available. Cheese board looked amazing. I had been so impressed with the experience and service that I returned yesterday for lunch with my family. Menu at lunchtime great. Good set lunch for £12.50 and daily specials on offer. I had ordered a vegetarian bagel with salad but actually got a smoked salmon bagel instead. Spoke to waitress who was apologetic and said she would get me another one. When it arrived and I bit into it i realised that they had just replaced the smoked salmon with the veggie filling but the chef had used the same bagel which still tasted of fish. As a strict vegetarian who does not eat fish this was completely unacceptable and put me off the rest of my meal. Everyone else really enjoyed their lunches especially the steak with peppercorn sauce from the set lunch.I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants good food in a relaxed informal setting. Staff were friendly and attentive and service was fast and efficient. Prices were reasonable and quality of the food was excellent with most produce being sourced locally. If you are a steak fan definitely the place to go. I will be returning despite the hiccup yesterday.

We particularly enjoyed the breakfast. There is a wide choice of traditional dishes which use top class ingredients and are well prepared. Try the Eggs Benedict. For a different touch, try the chilaquiles. Service is good, quick and attentive.

Great food - the lamb shank melts in your mouth and is well presented. The steaks were first class and the confused chives,en burger was delicious.

Took my son and daughter for a meal at The Blue Coo and was not disappointed. Local produce was cooked to perfection and the staff were efficient and pleasant. Good choice on the menu with something to suit everyone, The restaurant was quiet as we had booked an early evening meal but if busy, the tables are well spaced out. Will definitely return and recommend to friends.

Found this gem by chance, after another restaurant had no vacancies. Tables well spaced out in three rooms, and outdoor tables in a nice garden. Good pub grub and more from a very good menu. We had Haddock in a light batter, Border steak pie and gammon steak, all meals were fantastic and the veg was just cooked to perfection. The portions were large, so didn't have space to sample the deserts. Will certainly be back. Service was excellent, food served very quickly but at no time were you being hurried. The Blue Coo bistrot & bar is an internal part of the Buccleuch Arms 4 star coaching Inn

This was the first time we had eaten in blue coo restaurant. We have eaten in the bar many times before but thought we would try the blue coo. The meal was beautiful the steak was cooked just how I like it. Only thing is pity the veg not included with the meal that was extra. The starter was huge and very tasty. Pudding well that was just delicious. Over all this is definitely a place to visit. Service very good. Friendly staff. Atmosphere was relaxed. Well done to all at blue coo.

We ate here whilst staying at the Buccleuch Arms as had a voucher to eat included in the price of the stay. We started with some haggis Bon bons which were amazing and then for starters we both had the pigeon and black pudding - fabulous! We opted for the steak sharer, cooked medium rare! Lovely meat but a few comments. One of the three cuts wasn't my taste - nothing to do with the chef just my personal taste which is fine. One of the other cuts (the bullet steak) was overlooked slightly and none of the three had been left to rest long enough - the plate had a lot of blood on. The blue cheese sauce wasn't fab, it would have been nice for it to have had a bit more ooph to it and finally the chips weren't home made which was a huge shame. However, I think it is a lovely little bistro and would definately eat there again - good choice of wines, varied menu and would probably book a little earlier next time when it would probably be a bit busier as it was quite late and there wasn't much ambience.
