I won't lie - the moment you walk into the restaurant are, it looks like a run down tired bar, with bar carpets and a dated appearance, but do NOT let this put you off. We travelled down for an event last night and popped in before it started. I worried it was going to be cheap style normal pub fare and I was so wrong. In fact, I will even go as far as to say that I would make the 2 and a half hour round trip in the future solely to eat the foot. I had the BBQ burger - with layer after layer, I had no chance of getting my mouth around it. I enjoyed every moment of it, couldn't finish it but oh how I tried. Dessert was a lot simpler but tasty all the same. Staff were friendly. Will definitely be back.

What a find!! Behind a rather unprepossessing exterior we had gin and tonics better than anything we’d had in Edinburgh and steaks which were plump and cooked superbly. Lovely banter with the couple running the place- we were walking the St Cuthbert Way and this was our stand out meal of the whole trip!!!

We were in Jedburgh for a few days and trust me it was a struggle to find a place to eat as most restaurants were either fully booked or closed! Anyway after attempting to book twice and failed due to being fully booked we managed to get a booking on the Monday night as we had recommendations from local shop owners (as well as our B&B people) to go and eat at the Forresters! And they were right! The owners are delightful, excellent customer service, and mostly, the food is really to die for! So good we went two nights in a row!! There is a wide selection of interesting burgers, amazing street food and excellent steak / grill! I had a steak the first night and burger the next, both loaded with salad and sides. And the prices are so reasonable!! Definitely excellent price for the quality of the food you have! I am a foodie and I have a big appetite! And even I could not order the dessert after my main! We will definitely go back next time we will be in Jedburgh and we will definitely book in advance!

Day 2 of our St Cuthbert's Way walk and we were in need of a good meal. And that is exactly what we got! My 2 companions both cleared their plates but the Rabbie Burger beat me. To confuse us "foreigners" the place also goes by the name "Belter's Bar". I hope I've got that right. A very welcoming pub with a nice area - more of a Restaurant area - upstairs. Invited to stay near the bar until the table was ready although we could have gone straight to our table. Advantage of staying by the bar is we were able to get an instant refill of our beer, of which there was a choice and well kept. The menu listed various burgers, along with many other options, which were substantial and nice with decent chips, onion rings and homemade coleslaw. In case you are wondering what a Rabbie burger is :- Along with the main meat it also contains Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. Went here a few years ago with family including grandchildren and family dog. And will be going again if I'm in, or passing through, Jedburgh

Ate here tonight after reviewing two or three other places in the town. This eating establishment (also known as Belters Bar) serves very good quality pub food at excellent prices. Although probably known more for its burger selection, my other half and I had a menu special of two steaks (mine sirloin his rib eye) plus a bottle of wine for £29. It exceeded our expectations - the service was incredibly quick and the quality and quantity of the food made it extremely good value for money. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and would happily eat here again! We had a lovely chat too with the owner before leaving - thank you for a lovely evening!

Ignore the unprepossessing exterior and give it a go. This traditional pub with a history dating back to 1855 is comfortable and very welcoming but even more impressive is the food. When we were there the menu specialised in burgers (would you believe 25 different types) and grills, though I understand they do tapas at the weekend.Initially, I wasn't sure about the menu as I try to eat healthily and tend not to choose burgers. However, they were excellent, hand made with succulent, locally sourced meat, on great buns and with a range of mouthwatering toppings and accompaniments. A choice of sides completed the dish. The presentation exceeded our expectations and the taste was even better. The service was efficient and friendly and the price reflected great value for money.

I have to say that I am very disappointed in Pat V's review of the forresters tapas last Saturday. I was in the restaurant at the same time as her and her partner, I was with my husband, daughter and son -in - law, we all ordered 4 tapas dishes each which were all excellant, the waitress was was very polite, and we even had a dessert. niether myself or any of my party found any fault with the food or service, I will most certainly be going back to their restuarant. Perhaps miss V is in the habit of going into resyaurants to complain just so she and her partner can get a free meal, as I gather from her comment that her partner ate almost all of his meal then had a nerve to complain.

We arrived in town on a Sunday evening with most restaurants closed. B&B suggested this spot. Find the restaurant up two separate flights of stairs, first taking you from Belters Bar, then walk through another casual lounge with bar to a second flight of stairs to the small restaurant above. Spanish tapas in Scotland's Border? Yep, and quite good, too! Owners lived in Spain five years working in the hospitality business, and their talent shows in quality flavors. Don't let the old style pub setting take you off-course.

This was altogether a very disappointing culinary experience. The eating area was shabby and more like a transport cafe than a restaurant. I ordered 3 tapas dishes and none of them even remotely resembled the tapas I have had before. There was no evidence of any properly cooked food: boquerones, which tasted dreadful, a fish dish which was described as monkfish on the menu, but did not taste like it, and the 'home made salad' which was unseasoned boiled rice with a few bits of chopped green pepper, raw white onion and some black olives. My partner's dish of bbq pulled pork, although edible, tasted as if put together with a jar of shop bought bbq sauce. The service was however polite and once I had made my feelings known, the owner, to his credit, responded graciously by not charging us for anything. Belter's Bar may well be burger heaven, but anyone not interested in burgers and who enjoys good food, should give it a wide berth.

We have travelled and worked around the world and for a small restaurant it packs a huge menu with great value for money. I would advise that you book as they cater for around 15 and it does get booked easily, though you can eat in the Belters Bar if the restaurant is full. We both had burgers and and I can highly recommend them both, the meat feast burger and the pulled pork burger with huge portions of sides were excellent. The waitress was very friendly and the service great, they also do Tapas for those that enjoy Spanish cuisine. This is a hidden gem and a find not expected in a small town. Finally managed to pop into the Forresters to sample their burgers and WOW!! very very yummy - even my mum managed to clear her plate (minus the bun) and she never does that! Huge selection of different burgers which makes choosing a problem but well worth the wait. Dogs are also allowed into the bar area while you eat (as opposed to the posher restaurant bit) which makes it a perfect spot to refuel after a good walk with your four legged friend.Only down side is it isn't easily accessible if you have mobility difficulties - three steps up to the main door (then I think it was down to the loos and up to the restaurant) but mum managed it with her 2 knees and 1 hip replacement although she didn't risk a trip to the loos)I will certainly be going back when my pals are in town ;-)

In Jedburgh for the weekend and needing a meal on Saturday night my wife spotted a poster advertising a steak meal and a glass of wine of beer for £10.95 at The Forresters. Thinking it might be crowded and noisy we tried it any way and it was excellent. We were directed upstairs from the bar to the restaurant and told we would have to wait because two parties had just got in before us. In fact we've had to wait longer elsewhere without an apology. The food when it came was excellent - steak, onion rings, salad and lovely fat chips (but not greasy). My wife had a good sized glass of white and I had a pint of Bellhaven's Best bitter. Really good value - the same elsewhere in Jedburgh the night before cost us £17.95 for an equally good if not slightly inferior steak and about £3 for the beer/wine! The restaurant is small but comfortable and we would definitely go back. The waitress apologized for the table being laid without steak knives and fetched some for us without us asking. She also said if the steak was not done to our satisfaction they would send it back to the kitchen! A jug of water was also provided on request for no charge.

The food was lovely and my partner said it was one of the best meals he's ever had - and this takes some doing as we have rarely had a bad meal. They have a good menu and also do tapas which looked and smelt delicious, and the locals were enjoying these which we took to be a good sign. We only had to wait a short time for a table which was acceptable as we hadn't booked and they were pretty busy. Can thoroughly recommend trying here, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

We then found they specialised in Spanish Tapas, so I had a Spanish burger and opted for extra Spanish sides. It was as good as any tapas meal I've had, and at a ridiculously low price, about £8.00. The proprietors had previous run a restaurant in Spain, and are passionate about Spanish food. I just wished I lived nearer and could eat there regularly. Try it - the menu has something for everyone.

Initially I was not sure about the pub - it was a small downstairs room. But the welcome was great, there was an open fire, and a free computer to use (not that we did- chatting to the friendly locals was far more enjoyable). The Forresters specialise in Burgers - the one I had with haggis and a cheese topping was fantastic. The owners have previously run a tapas bar in Spain, and also specialise in Tapas, with a lengthy menu. Put aside any preconceptions, and have a great evening!

This meal was booked day after a meal in Belters Bar that is in same building. This was a tapas meal. We didn't expect to find tapas in Jedburgh but the family who run the place had recently returned from a lengthy residency in Spain. The food was brilliant all hand made and prepared fresh per order. We couldn't fault it and the price put other tapas places to shame. If we ever go to Jedburgh again we will certainly be going to The Forresters again.

Wonderful authentic Tapas + some Scottish versions make up a wide choice menu. 4 tapas for £12.50 plus a special discount of 10% on all food and drink after 6pm made it a real bargain. Excellent well chosen range of Spanish wines at good prices.

We ate here on a Sunday night. The welcome from the owner was friendly; locals in the downstairs bar were equally friendly and chatty. We both ate steaks (good steaks) with salad. Drinks: a Scottish stout; and a Californian Merlot. Very tender and juicy steaks, drinks were fine,We left cheerful, and well fed!

My husband and I came here to try tapas as we weren't quite sure what it was and fancied a wee change, the menu had lots of choices which all sounded very tasty. We were served our dishes by a very polite and helpfull waitress who also helped us make our choices, it all looked amazing and tasted very fresh with lots of different flavours with a nice basked of fresh bread to soak up the sauces and oils. Great value for money, lovely atmosphere, looking forward to going again.

We had a drink and a tapas in the Belters Bar adjoining the Forresters. Our host was in fine form, with stories of his past in Spain and of his family who lived there and loved it. They brought back some of the culinary traditions of Spain, and we so enjoyed them.

Paramos aqui por acaso. A parte superior do restaurante estava vazia e era muito estranha, então decidimos descer e comer na área do pub. O atendimento foi extremamente simpático e os hambúrgueres estavam ótimos e eram enormes!

We had dinner there recently because of strong trip advisor ratings. Sorry. We don't agree. The menu was a bit confusing and I had a hard time deciding what I would order. That didn't keep the wait person from coming to our table repeatedly to take our order, acting a bit annoyed when it was obvious we hadn't decided. Instead of assisting us and answering any questions, she said she would return. It was early in the evening and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Recommendations and assistance would have been greatly appreciated. My husband ordered the cheeseburger. It was so difficult to negotiate eating, it made him angry. It tasted fine he said, but he hates to struggle in public. I had two starters which were OK but I had to get up and walk to where the serving person was to request assistance with condiments. No one checked in with us to see if we wanted another brew or anything. Very poor service. After I ordered, I continued to peruse the menu and saw some things I wished I had ordered. Oh well....but there won't be a next time.

The service was excellent. We actually ordered food from the restaurant, which is on the 3rd floor. But we preferred to sit on the first floor, and the owner ran up and down to bring our utensils and food to us. He never showed any unhappiness, just eagerness for us to taste the food. We didn't try the tapas, but still found the food great. The bill came to £35 pounds for the 4 of us, which we thought was very reasonable.

After reading some other reviews and taking advice from the Tourist Centre we thought we would give the place a try. The layout was really strange and when we were shown to the restaurant there was only one other couple eating. The staff were pleasant but it did feel a little uncomfortable. The menu looked good, we decided not to have Tapas but choose from the main menu. The food was ok but more the type of food you would expect in a 2 for £10 pub so when my main cost £10.50 I thought it represented really poor value for money. Would not go back.

A most enjoyable evening meal. As local Jed residents, we will plan to bring all our future visitors here. An excellent atmosphere and a family run business. The wide variety of different meals and flavours should suit everyone. We will certainly be returning again.MandA

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!
