Stayed for two nights with my wife and thoroughly enjoyed it. Stayed in the oak room which was lovely room. The bed was a little soft for my liking, (but as I’m not a complete wet wipe and it’s practically impossible to keep every different type of mattress, I managed) The room had a balcony which was a lovely place to stand in the morning and have a coffee. The breakfast (cheese and croissants, yoghurt, and cereal) was more than adequate and a nice light start to the day. We didn’t eat here the first night as we went to the Indian a few doors up, but enjoyed a few drinks in the bar, a lovely pint of Estrella, and my wife enjoyed sampling a few of the cocktails. The second night we ate in the bar, and must admit after reading some of the whinging reviews on here, I wasn’t expecting too much. I ordered the house burger and it was fantastic, not too big, the meat was delicious and came with a larger than average portion of fries. The bar had a good atmosphere., and the locals were very friendly. I read some of the reviews and honestly don’t know what some people are thinking sometimes. Most of the complaints seem like a “you problem” it’s a fantastic little hotel and would highly recommend staying here again.

Basically it was "Tesco" take away re heated. There was absolutely nothing on the menu that appealed to us after a long day on the road. Four items, "sorry we don't have that today". When we did order, it arrived in less than a minute. Melted processed cheese from a tube, calamari microwaved and on it went.Felt so bad for the server who did her best. Could not help but notice that another table left half their meal on the plate.

The website does not reflect the restaurant as it now is. It has swivelled from fine dining to beer and a burger. It’s perfectly adequate at that but it’s not what the website describes.

I booked a Deluxe Junior Suite for 4 adults. On the positive side, the suite was clean throughout, including the rooms and bathroom, and the shower pressure was great. The late check-in process went smoothly, and all staff were friendly. However, despite these positives, I wouldn't recommend staying here. The bedding wasn't set up for 4 adults, even though there were a few hours between booking and check-in. The included breakfast was disappointing—it consisted of a croissant, cheese, milk, and juice left in the fridge, with no mention that it was a cold continental breakfast. Lastly, two of our group had a terrible night's sleep because the sofa bed had broken springs and offered no support, sofa bed seemed broken overall.

We had a warm welcome from Alistair after a long drive. The family suite was exactly what we needed - a little apartment with enough space for everyone. The breakfast table was all set up for us like a restaurant and everything ready for breakfast in the fridge. We had dinner in the restaurant and this was exceptional. The salmon tagliatelle was delicious and the mussels were the best we’ve ever eaten with an amazing liquor. Thank you to the chef! The children were incredibly well looked after by the staff which meant we could relax too. All round excellent stay.

What happened to this place? Sells itself with fresh Scottish ingredients and 2AA Rosette cuisine - so how come our meal consisted of store bought pate, dry fish cakes with bottled sweet chilli sauce? Only meat dish on the menu was chicken salad and fish cakes the only fish? An embarrassment since we had suggested the restaurant to a US friend who wanted to experience local foods and treat us as an ‘occasion’. An expensive disappointment. Such a pity, used to be good.

We have eaten at the Capon Tree a few times in the past and the meal this evening was really not good. There is very little variance in the choices on the menu which seem to be the same regardless of the season. The whole meal lacked skill and had the feel that the chef was just going through the motions. We have always been suspicious of florid descriptions of dishes which rarely meet the reality of the food put in front of you, and this meal was no exception. Hopefully things will improve

We had a three course meal here with friends. The starter (scallops) and mains (smoked fish cakes) were fine but the desserts (panna cotta-were miniscule, and the lemon meringue was virtually inedible) were disappointing, Very few people in the restaurant and over priced. Menu not as extensive as on the website. Had the feeling it is overrated or not as good as it has been from previous reviews

Stayed over night in the Oak room. Room Ok however very dim lighting and the two chairs were so low they would suit toddlers rather than adults. The bathroom was nice and clean however the light above the sink did not work. Only one dressing gown so bit odd given it was a double room. I eventually found a plug to charge my phone. It was being the bedhead so i had to climb on the bed and reach down to the floor through the slats to get plugged in. It was nice to have a balcony to sit on and enjoy the view. The bed was comfy and the room was nice and warm. The breakfast was already in the fridge when we arrived plated up and covered in cling film so the croissants were cold and a bit stale by the next day. There was also a oat cake each which did not fare well in the fridge either. We did get woke up a few times as the fridge at the ens of the bed kept juddering. The place is well placed at the end of the high street and we got parked easily enough. Check out was in the form of just leaving the key in the room door so felt very self-service/un-personal. Apart from being shown to our room we never saw anyone.

Bed and breakfast and evening meal booked. Huge disappointment in breakfast and evening meal. Breakfast of croissant (cold and waxy) oatcake (soft) cheese, jam and 1 small portion of butter each left in fridge overnight with Cereal, yoghurt and juices. Website sample dinner menu bears no resemblance to the menu offered which was overpriced. Not a meat dish available. And certainly not reflecting 2AA rosettes as shown on their website.

Great stay while doing the St Cuthberts long distance walk. Room very good. The place is done as a boutique small hotel which is really swish. Very friendly helpful bar staff. One thing to note relates to the town, Jedburgh, we were there on a monday and almost everything was closed at night or shut early. Be prepared it could be hard to find somewhere to sit down to eat. We ended up going to a chippy and sitting outside on a bench. One pub was open and they were nice and had a fiddle band on. The town seems to be suffering the same way many towns in the UK are in the North, with empty shops and limited hours which is a pity because the architecture is pretty and the people friendly.

We selected this venue as the website showed extensive restaurant food and a lively bar. However, we were disappointed on both fronts. After being requested to pay for our room up front, we were then informed neither the restaurant not bar were available for our use as both were booked for private functions. We then thought well that's OK, we can experience the restaurant for breakfast, only to be reminded it was closed and breakfast was in a fridge in our room. On top of this, to add insult to injury we were told we had to check out by 9:00am. Although the room was well appointed, I couldn't sleep due to the fridge at the bottom of the bed, constantly starting up/shutting down. On checking out we expected to be able to hand over the keys to someone but the bar and restaurant areas were locked and no-one was available. Had we been informed earlier that the restaurant and bar were not available, we could have probably would have looked elsewhere. In my opinion, the Capon Tree should stick to the bar and restaurant, i.e. what they appear to do best. Running accommodation is not a strong point and we were left feeling like second-class guests.

What a great venue for Jedburgh, but there are significant changes that need to be addressed if this place is to remain open. I'm a Jedburgh exile who has dined in many placed across the globe, and have a modicum of experience of what works and what does not. I was in Jedburgh for a family funeral, and met up in the Capon Tree for a drink the night before, five of us for drinks and wine, and asked if we could have a bar meal or perhaps some light bites? A reasonable request you might think on a Wed evening at 7pm, but no there is nothing available, the front of house lady checked with the chef, the kitchen is closed, and we have nothing in the bar?? I estimate we would have spent circa £150 on bar food and wine if availble, but it would appear the chef does not see this loss of revenue? Okay, we move onto the Thurs evening after the funeral, I have pre-booked a table in the retaurant at 18.30, we are the only x 5 diners in the restaurant, which does not auguar well for a Thursday night. I ask if we could have some pre-dinner nibbles i.e. some bread, olive oil to dip and perhaps some Olives? The lady looks quizzically at me, says she will check with the chef, and comes back sheepishly to inform me there is only enough bread which forms part of one of the mian courses (mussels), so insufficent for us? Okay, what about some olives, nope sorry we have none?? Geez, this aint good, but anyway we order our mian courses c/w two bottles of wine, and found the food was of a very good standard. We then retire to the bar where we meet up with the remaining family, now there is ten, therefore much reminiscing and drinks all round, but still no snacks availble for the other five hungry mourners :( What really struck us, was the sight of the chef and staff in the bar vaping, while we sat with our drinks, this is at 8pm and we are the only people in the bar? Just not good enough, between us +£400 was spent over the weekend, accomadation food & wine. It's unlikely we will return until the owners really look at how this establishment is managed.

Three of us stayed overnight here in two rooms and also ate in the restaurant. I've reviewed the accommodation separately. First of all, I think some of the reviews on here are a little harsh. At the end of the day this is a business doing its best to provide a decent service and turn a profit which I don't think can be easy to pull off in the current climate, so perhaps we need to cut them a little slack if everything is not perfect. Anyway, to my own review... We had a drink in the bar first. Table service, decent selection of cocktails. After a short while we were invited to take our seats in the restaurant. The menu was quite short and there was quite a heavy emphasis on fish an seafood which was fine for me as I love fish but committed carnivores might find their choice a bit more limited. It was also arguably a little carby, with two pasta dishes and risotto on the mains, but these are minor points. I had the hot smoked salmon salad to start, which was very nice, followed by the ravioli, which I really enjoyed. Served nice and hot, the flavours were good and there was just the right amount. To finish I had the passion fruit tart which the waiter said was new on the menu. It was tasty, though for me a little on the sweet side and I would have preferred the pastry to be a little thinner. Overall, however, I would say the food was decent for the price. There was a short wine list - I guess this is another way of keeping costs down. However, even from the short list it was perfectly possible to get an acceptable bottle and we shared a nice Picpul de Pinet. The wines were reasonably priced. Service was polite and efficient from the two waiting staff. We found the music a little on the loud side. Overall, a good, though perhaps not outstanding food experience and despite my minor niggles I would return if back in Jedburgh.

Lovely stay last night, great location for exploring the area. Little Boutique style hotel. Room was lovely and spotlessly clean. Bed comfortable with crisp white linen and breakfast was a free continental which we liked consisting of granola, cornflakes, yogurt, croissants, bread, ham, two types of cheese, butter, honey and lovely chutney, milk and fresh juice. What more do you want? Only tiny negative was that the towels were very rough, but otherwise we had a perfect stay. Thankyou Capon Tree Townhouse

Very nice food. Delightful staff. Just as we had hoped. BUT the potentially lovely ambience of the dining area was shattered by a very overpowering muzak which comprised of horrible screechy vocals and thumping beats. Why on earth would anyone impose that on the clientele who are enjoying an evening's fine dining? We did ask for it to be turned down a bit but sadly that did not appear to happen. We, like most of the diners, were oldies. A pity. It ruined what would have been a great evening.

Fate led me to staying over in loveley Jedbrough, The quaint Spread Eagle Hotel made a good choice, but no food. The nearest nice looking Indian restaurant was full, so I had to wander on to the end of the street, The Capon TreeLooked like it would be ok, One inside a chic smart busy place greeted me. efficient relaxed young staff looked after me ( No Booking Sir?) though quite full they showed me to a small table and the menu arrived.Main course for me was the vennison, with the rich shalot gravy, superb! good wine, nice time and realy good food, warmly reccommended by me to anybody staying in the area, well worth a visit.

We recently stayed at The Capon Tree Town House on our trip to the UK. We were fortunate to come across this beautiful B&B run by Alisdair and Ashley who have lovingly restored a dilapidated building into a warm and cosy B&B, bar and restaurant. It was easy to find and we received a warm welcome on arrival. The bed was comfortable and entire room was lovely and clean and we didn’t want for anything. Parking on the street was plentiful and even though it is right in the centre of town it was lovely and quiet. Sadly the restaurant was closed on Monday evening so we couldn’t dine in, but the breakfast cooked by Alisdair was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the Capon Tree Town House if you are looking for accommodation in Jedburgh.

Had the most delicious meal at The Capon Tree. Pigeon for starters and venison for mains. The presentation of the food was amazing and the perfectly designed mix of tastes for each course was just awesome. For dessert the espresso creme brulee was truly delightful. All accompanied by one of the best rose wines I've had. Sertvice was also excellent. A superb dining experience.

We went to dine here for a special occasion. The restaurant is nicely decorated - carpet and tablecloths so it wasn't noisy.Polite, friendly staff and gentle piano music. However this is for people who like fine dining as although the food is perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, there isn't much of it. I see from the on-line menu that my salmon dish should have had a fishcake as well as samphire and fennel - it didn't. Not for me - I like to go home feeling pleasantly full!

We stayed here overnight in July and have already booked again this month. There aren't enough superlatives to describe this boutique hotel, it's staff or the food they serve. Every member of staff is customer focused, friendly and approachable. Our room was beautiful, restful and sparkling clean. Dinner was superb: lovely choices on the menu, beautifully cooked and presented on gorgeous crockery. Breakfast too was excellent. We can't wait to stay here again!

Did not expect to find a restaurant as good as this in a small town. Food choices were fresh and innovative using local produce. The staff were charming. Wished I had gone the next night as well . The caddy shack voted no 1 in jedburgh did not come even close. Will definitely go again next time in the area.

Not my first visit and this time had five friends with me. We all enjoyed our tasty and beautifully presented meals and were well looked after. The owners and staff try very hard, a shame the dining room was so quiet because the food is excellent.

Dined here on Friday evening. The bar area was very swish and comfortable . The service was excellent. We went through to the dining room which was a bit of a let down, rather dated and not at all in keeping with the bar. We sat next to the back door which kept draughtily blowing open to give a view of staffs outdoor footwear! However again the service was great and the food superb, the venison was probably the best I have ever had! The thing that has actually made me deduct a star however was the awful 'Musac' which played the same few repetitive notes too loudly throughout the meal, I actually left without a pudding because it was going to give me a headache and I could no longer carry on a coherent conversation over it! However it was certainly good enough to warrant a return visit- just hope their sound system is broken!

We visited last night for our sons 18th birthday .on arrival we recieved a very warm welcome ,enjoyed a drink in the bar before going to our table. The sevice was very proffessional but relaxed allowing you to enjoy the experience rather than just cram the food down .The space between courses was also noticed and makes a massive difference to the whole experience .The food ....absolutly stunning .The attention to detail is superb and the marriage of flavours within the dish devine .Our niece lives in Fakkirk and was texting her mum suggesting they come down to visit so they could have a meal at the Capon Tree. The whole experience from start to finish was truly excellent. We will without doubt visit again .Thankyou AListair ,Ashley and team

My wife and I had an excellent meal here. I had the scallops to start and the duck as a main - both were very good. Service also very good. One minor complaint was the price of the wine. They are encouraging you to buy by the glass and recommend a wine with each dish which is fair enough but the prices by the bottle just seemed a little too steep. Still it's your choice whether you buy or not and we did but I noticed other customers not having wine with their meal which seems a shame. It was however a lovely meal and I would recommend it if you are in the area.

I have eaten dinner and breakfast here as well as just visit for cocktails. Everything is extremely good and the service is outstanding. My wife and two daughter's all said that it was the best example of the cocktail they had ever tasted (one was a pornstar martini). They make an excellent Gin cocktail with the local Kerr's Gin that is very refreshing. The dinner menu is fantastic with plenty of options making it a hard choice for each course. I had the crab starter and the Beef man course and both were beautifully presented and delicious. We were staying in a nearby Air Bnb and they even took a booking from our party of 7 for breakfast. This didn't disappoint either and compared to many hotel breakfasts I have experienced was much more freshly produced and extremely good value. All round, probably my favourite dining and cocktail venue in the Borders!

Superb restaurant. Had the venison with celeriac puree, haggis croquette and other goodies. Honestly if I had not had a strict upbringing I could have licked the plate, it was that delicious. Service was outstanding. Not a noisy place, you can hear your dining companions easily. Would go back in a heartbeat.

My husband and I visited the capon tree a few days ago for dinner. Overall we had an incredible experience. First of all the service was excellent. Polite, helpful and not intrusive at all. The food looked and tasted beautiful, so much so that we couldn't stop and had a full three course meal! The wine selection was also excellent and easier to appreciate when guided by the outstanding and lovely in-house sommelier.

Having chosen Capon tree town house just for a one-night-accomodation on our way south, we were surprised and overwhelmed by the restaurant: Imagination, knowhow and taste, from starter to dessert, served with style - and a wine-list full of wisely selected bottles mainly from Europe, some off the beaten track. Wine-enthusiasts will appreciate the comfortable rooms.

Two night stay May 20-22. Had a drink and a meal at The Capon Tree after a great day of walking on St Cuthbert’s Way from Dryburgh. It is evident that the team who own and run this small hotel take pride in their property. Hotel is easily found ~2.5km from the trail, and we were welcomed for an extraordinary gin drink - The Capon Tree (bar/restaurant) serves great local gins and has friendly and knowledgeable staff! Outstanding service from Ashley; food was impeccably prepared - scallops, halloumi, and salmon on the menu were super - lots of local ingredients throughout the menu. This place is a current and future award winner!

We had a great stay. Our room was very great. The Breakfast was amazing and the service also. Curt and Susie are so nice. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. It takes around 50 minutes to the airport. Around Eatlston are some nice things to visit, like castles. The coast ist also close.
