First time visit to Cafe Melba , and was a lovely experience. Coffee & Cake in a light , clean & airy surroundings. Staff so nice epecially Ella , a friend of ours ☕️🍰 Will defo be back !! The soap in the ladies was amazing- Whiskey & Honey .

A fantastic evening of delicious food in a welcoming environment. We were met by warm smiles from staff and locals. Locals up for a friendly chat, which we appreciated. Food was served hot, plentiful and YUM YUM YUM! We all had different dishes; garlic mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, crab cakes (starters) double burger, crispy chicken and steak pie (mains). Best steak pie I’ve eaten anywhere (England or Scotland). Nobody was disappointed, in fact, we all were so full after our meals, not one of us could attempt a pudding which was a shame as I so wanted to try the sticky toffee pud! Bonus…the price…such value for money. We had travelled 6 hours to visit a friend who was passing through the area. If I had spare hours in my days, I’d happily drive the distance to enjoy an evening at the Crown Hotel. If you have the chance, you’ll be glad you did, enjoy 😊

We stopped in here this morning, killing time on our way to the ferry, ended up pleasantly surprised by a real gem of a place. Both ordered a full scottish breakfast, which came with toast and tea/coffee included. Food was great and the value is unreal - absolutely huge pot of tea, loads of toast, really nice haggis, sausage, bacon etc. Staff were really friendly and the whole place had a lovely relaxed vibe, everyone chatty and having a lovely time. The real treat was the huge range of sweet treats - i was full from brekkie but I am an unstoppable sweet tooth so i bought a biscoff rocky road and a banoffee tart as takeaways to have later. Can happily report both were delicious! If you find yourself in Newton Stewart be sure to visit Bridgend Pantry, you'll be glad you did!

Had the steak, it was superb as was the accompanying haggis, onion rings and chips. Enjoyed every morsel!

We eat at The Pheasant quite often, despite it being a 30 mins drive from home. Great homemade Italian food using local produce. Indulgent puddings. Pity it’s closed between November and March

Myself and my partner visited while on holiday. We came across it by mistake. Were made to feel very welcome, lovely staff !. The food was great and homemade cakes as well. The prices was on par for rest of area. Would deffo recommended for welcoming meal

Cracking place, called in by chance and were lucky to get a table. (They had a tasting session later in the evening and were fully booked). Burger was very enjoyable, my partner wasn't as pleased with her "pie of the day".

Been here for last three years absolutely brilliant! Food is outstanding, excellent choice of beers, wine and spirits and the staff, mine host are absolutely aces. Can't recommend highly enough.

The smallest room and the smallest TV I have ever witnessed in over 35 years of hotels. Shower doesn't produce hot water until running it for 13 minutes. You have to fill one of those "Faulty Towers" breakfast slips in at check in. You know, the ones that ask what you want for breakfast, and at what time!!.... The next day.... I can't give an exact time when I'll waken or wtf I want to eat when I do. Mental idea. Breakfast was OK,but served by a girl and cooked by a guy who were both standing outside smoking at the entrance 2 minutes beforehand. I'm giving 5 stars for service because the check in and bar service was very professional. Room 12 was smaller than your average IKEA wardrobe,and I'm sure the TV was a scam buy from Temu. Honestly, without exaggerating.. It was about the size of the very first Kindle that came out. Picture and availability of channels was probably better on a Kindle. I mean...it must be the only place in the world that can have WiFi, but not BBC 1 🤷‍♂️. Might sound like a bad review,but it's just how it happened. Would actually try again no problem, just not in that shoebox room. Honestly guys,get rid of that room. Crew rest rooms on a Boeing 787 are far bigger. And that's saying something. I will be back tho,because everyone was lovely. Just invest in bigger rooms and TV's that, not only have a signal,but are bigger than the keyring that was on my room key. Take care guys

This is the perfect place to sit for a coffee and a cake while waiting for family browsing the bookshops of Wigtown - or for a pit stop if you are on a bookshop marathon yourself. The staff are friendly and helpful. The chairs and sofas are comfy. The coffee is spot on and the cakes…Oh. My. Word! I had the apple and cinnamon and my husband had the lemon and ginger. Both were so light and utterly delicious - I was told the owner bakes them all herself, and my goodness she is good at it!

Great place, with friendly staff that serves up excellent food. Special mention to the bar manager, Kenny, always up for a good bit of banter.

I'm aware the house o'hill has just opened back up but our experience was as if we had just walked into faulty towers, there was a boss lady trying to take orders but didn't have a clue, a boss man that just wanted to stand at pizza counter and do nothing and a poor girl stuck on till not knowing how to work till and don't forget jack and Victor in the kitchen, there was 6 tables with people sitting and you thought there was 36 most meals came out late and wrong, also no alcohol sold people will wait for a meal if there drinking alcohol but not if there drinking coke, food was basic but good when we eventually got it, for the life of me I don't know what the problem was cause me and my wife could have served and cooked what was sitting on Saturday night ourselves with no help, I really hope they can turn this round
