What a warm welcome on a busy evening. The man behind the bar is an absolute asset to the business. The rest of the staff were friendly and chatty - perfect. Food was delicious - so much so that after the first night we booked again for the following evening. I particularly loved the chowder served in a bread bowl. Would definitely recommend.

We contacted the restaurant on the Saturday and booked a table for the Sunday. When we turned up at the time of our booking the hostess stated they had no record of our booking and could not accommodate us. She asked if we had actually booked somewhere else by accident. We then confirmed the phone number we contacted to make the booking, which she confirmed was theirs. She gave a half hearted apology and did not seem interested in our business. We were left disappointed that we had to find somewhere else at that time on a Sunday night.

Staying nearby, we were able to walk along the river path to this lovely, welcoming bar and restaurant. We hadn’t booked, assuming that a Tuesday evening outside the main holiday months would be ok, but they were busier than expected. We turned up at 7, and they offered us a table at 8pm, which suited us fine, especially as we were able to peruse the menu in the bar and they had the starter ready for us at 8. Every member of staff was friendly and attentive and the food was great. Not fine dining, but delicious. We both had the cheese board instead of dessert, a good choice as the cheese was very good. One board between two would have been plenty through, as the portions were huge, even for a cheese lover like me (we did manage to eat it all!). Will definitely be back when next in the area, and we will be sure to book, just in case.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We have been coming to Creebridge for 25 years plus, and on every visit (once every 12/18 months), the quality of the food, wine selection available and service, seems to get worse and worse. Let me start by the interior design. Really? After 20 years is it not time for an update? The toilets are simply awful, and I will leave that there. The service: there was an older lady working the evening we were in and she was friendly and helpful, but most of the other staff were either clueless or in the case of a young waitress who served us, downright rude. I asked her if she had a wine menu to which she replied yes, and left it there! So I had to say, well can I see it please? When she came to take the order her exact words were “are you ready to order or what”? Unbelievable!!! The wine by the glass selection, for anyone with a reasonable good palate for wine was horrible, I tasted one and promptly ordered a G&T! ( No Fevertree here btw). The food was edible, but average and the vegetables seriously overcooked. Unfortunately, the selection of restaurants in Newton Stewart is limited, so unless we want to drive, we will probably have to come back here. Hopefully in 12/18 months things may have improved.

We stopped here for dinner with the kids on our visit to Scotland . Really relaxing place in a beautiful setting. The food was delicious, and the staff were wonderful. The outside area was clean and had plenty of space, including a play area to keep the kids ready while our food was being prepared. I would like to try the indoor restaurant next time as that also looked fabulous! 10 out of 10!

We came here for dinner a couple of months ago & still remember the excellent service we had from Leanne - really warm, kind & helpful. Thank you! Our initial impression wasn't great, having received a very lukewarm 'welcome' from the guy behind the bar, but it all improved in the dining room where the staff (all female) were fantastic. As it happened, we were mainly looked after by Leanne & she was brilliant. The food was terrific - particularly enjoyed the burger. The bill was a nice surprise too - very good value for money. If we lived in the area we'd definitely be regular visitors.

I have to admit to lying to two members of staff. We ordered our main, neither wanted a starter. I ordered the drinks. The drinks came and we waited for 30 minutes. The mains arrived, they were delicious. But time wore on, no one came to ask if we enjoyed, or wanted more drinks or wanted desert, or coffee? Time passed. We both dearly wanted a pudding, time passed. The table next to ours got up and left having been ignored after their main, paid and left. Every staff member suddenly was gone, anyone who appeared seemed intent on doing something other than looking at us or attending to us. I got fed up. We decided to leave. I offered to pay at the bar. The lady I booked the table with, seemed totally focused on an order for a new diner. She said “Was everything alright?” I lied so as not to hurt her feelings. She excused herself and left the till/bar area. Finally someone else asked if everything was all right. Again I lied in case they wouldn’t let me out; like hotel California. I asked to pay. Paid. Never again. I wonder if I’m invisible?

Schottische Küche at its best wird angeboten.

Staying locally for a week and decided to go in with our dog, (first time he's been in a pub), for a couple of drinks. The barman, Kenny, couldn't have been more welcoming, (even the dog thought so, although that might have been because of the dog biscuits). The wee dog behaved himself so we decided to go back a couple of nights later. Again the staff were very friendly, (more dog biscuits for the wee fella). We decided to stay and eat and both meals were excellent. I had the steak pie and my wife had the lasagna. We will definitely be back before the end of our holiday.

Food was speedy almost too speedy as starter plates were removed and within minutes mains were on the table. No one asked if we needed drinks, my husband had to get up and go the bar again. Unpretentious Scottish hotel restaurant providing good food with some ambition. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Galloway. Both my wife & son opted for the lasagna which they again said was very good. I had the mixed ice creams for sweet, which was plentiful & tasted marvellous! Only downside was a beer that went flat very quickly! I left most of it and opted for a Tennants lager which was fine. Excellent food for simple bar meal or for that special evening out. Ask for their reduced price portions as they are really good value. Set in own grounds, but easy walk to the river.

We were advised to try Creebridge House Hotel by our hosts at our bed and breakfast lodgings. We liked it that much we went back for a 2nd night! Whilst we had a delay in waiting for a table staff kept us up to date with how long it would be. On the first night I managed to leave my mobile phone on the table and the lovely bar man took it to our bed and breakfast as we had discussed where we were staying - now that’s service! And the food was good!

Looking for somewhere for a late lunch we stopped over at the Creebridge House Hotel. On a very hot summer Saturday we were delighted to find the restaurant welcoming and peaceful. The adjacent bar was busy with a folk group playing live and lots of people outside in the extensive grounds. Staff were welcoming and ensured that my husband who has mobility issues had access to an easy direct route to an accessible table. For some, the decor will be somewhat dated but it is clean and in keeping with a country house hotel. A few higher chairs with arms would be welcomed in the restaurant for those who find getting up from a chair challenging. There was good access had we been using a wheelchair on the day. Food was freshly cooked with good sized portions and a wide choice. Service was leisurely rather than slow but we weren’t looking for fast food. Serving staff were attentive and friendly and are to be commended. There was a good parking area. Have no hesitation in recommending this very pleasant restaurant.

One could be forgiven for having high expectations of dining at the Creebridge Hotel: it is one of the largest and best - architecturally - in the centre of Newton Stewart, having once been a private residence of the Earls of Galloway.

This restaurant was exceptional. The staff were extremely aware of gluten intolerance and once I told them, everyone was on board. I could just pick anything and see if the chef could do it gluten free. It took away all the difficulty and I was treated like a regular customer.

Went to the Creebridge house Hotel restaurant for my birthday meal whilst holidaying in the area. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality was nothing short of exceptional. Kenny gave us lots of tips to improve a cocktail and a whisky, which we just had to try. And I can say, his tips were fantastic. Liz our waitress was funny and attentive. The food was some of the best we've had in a restaurant in years, and we eat out regularly. My husband said the lamb just fell to pieces. I had the brie and beetroot tart which was very tasty but too big a portion for me. Highly recommended popping in if you're in the area. We had 3 courses, bottle of wine and additional drinks and the bill was £84.

Excellent meal and service in warm and friendly surroundings. Mix of diners from businessmen, couples, family with young children and ourselves quietly celebrating a 91st birthday - illustrating the Creebridge's wide appeal and justifiably!

The SWI had our Christmas Meal here this year and pre ordered. I had the turkey and trimmings which was served on a huge platter and three huge slices of turkey. Everything cooked to perfection. I took the apple strudel and ice cream - great ice cream. Everyone enjoyed what they had ordered and a lovely atmosphere, and attentive serving staff who were pleased to see us and cheery.

We had a superb midweek supper here with friends in November. Bit of a trek from Dumfries but well worth the visit, and even closer to the M74 for anyone travelling up to Scotland in need of a refreshment. The haggis bites were delicious and the lamb kleftiko simply melted in the mouth. Their Chilean SB was extremely gluggable and very reasonably priced. Abbey and Jack were the best hosts. Highly recommended.

A late lunch stop off. Beautiful coffee, not an oz of fat in the pasty and a chocolate twist that I had eaten most of before I remembered to take a photo! Another quality visit. Thanks 😊

This is without a doubt the best place for lunch in Dumfries. The food just gets better and better. We ordered a selection of 4 dishes none of which disappointed 🥰
