Stayed in the village for a few days and this was the only option within walking distance for an evening meal, and very good it was too. We booked for two nights, one night was quiet and another was full - and this was midweek in early March so I think that says a lot. Excellent friendly service from coming in the door, the menu was mainly basic pub grub but there was a very good selection and it wasn't overly expensive. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it. We only decided not to have dinner on the other two nights of our stay as we were still a bit stuffed from our previous feeds! As the only pub in the village they are certainly not resting on their laurels and when we revisit we will be making bookings again.

We love Garlieston and always visit while on holiday in the area. We lunched here on two occasions this time. The staff are great, it's dog friendly, welcoming ,clean and lovely food. Our first visit we had fish+chips and sandwiches with a side of soup. Second visit we had scampi and a ham+cheese panini. Fresh ,quality ingredients (ie not plastic supermarket ham). Excellent value for money, highly recommend. Big thanks to Sandra, our waitress who made a big fuss of our whippets + lurcher .

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights bed and breakfast. We also ate dinner here one night. The hotel was old, cosy and friendly. Very clean. Very comfortable bed. 2 bucket armchairs so we each had one to relax in whilst watching the wonderful view of the bay, harbour and boats bobbing on the incoming/outgoing tide. The choice for breakfast and evening meals was good and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The best Guinness in years. You must book and it’s easy to see why, staff great, great location and, of course, great food. Memorable moment however was the mis heard reply, when asked what the soup of the day was?, “ it’s controversial “ Oh… Turns out it was country vegetable. And it was lovely. Thouroughly enjoyed each visit over the week.

I’ve read a lot of the reviews now and wish I’d done it earlier. Lots of good review and I have to say the bar atmosphere was brilliant. Good service and friendly staff. The menu is vast, which should have alerted me. My food was very mediocre. I did look at other dishes and people looked happy, but for me, No thanks. It’s the only eatery in the area but I think I’d try the mobile units next time. Not my cup of tea at all. I want a quality meal after a day walking. Sorry.

Came here for a drink on my first night arriving in Garlieston, restaurant very busy so decided to book for a meal the following night, was still full from a battered sauaage supper from Newton Stewart!! Staff all very welcoming and pleasant. Lovely old small bar at front, and lots of tables and benches outside to enjoy an evening dusk pint and relax. Food was ok, restaurant very busy, was taken into table at the back room but this seemed to be where all the children are, music pretty loud so not that relaxing, ask for a table at the front part if you can. Would gladly eat in again, wasnt rushed and evening nicely finished off with a leisurely pint in the back garden

Our meal here was excellent! We had steak pie, mac and cheese, and sea bass. The meat in the pie was tender and juicy. The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy and perfect consistency. The sea bass was very fresh and perfectly cooked. For dessert, I chose the Scottish tablet ice cream. This was like a sundae, with tablet in the bottom and vanilla ice cream on top. Was delicious. And all pretty reasonably priced. Staff all very friendly and attentive, and all covid related guidelines etc followed.

We had eaten lunch at The Harbour In the day before, the service and food was excellent so we looked forward to attending for our evening meal the next day !! Well the two visits could not have been so diffferent !!! The restauarant was not busy, we were seen to promptly and food order placed. Between ordering our food and it turning up was a joke !!! The staff it would appear have been programmed to look after regulars and people they know - which was clear when our main courses turned up and we hadnt had our starter !!! The waitress offered to keep our meal warm until we had our main courses !!! NO !!! recook the main courses once we have had the starter !!! Waitress who took our order couldnt even look us in the face as she fannied about hotel guests and people she knew !!! My daugther works in a busy eatery and can look after 20 covers on her own no problem because she has been trained well and understands that customers pay her wages and give her good tips for the service and professionalism she displays !!! Only tip I have for The Harbour Inn waiting staff is dont bother turning up if all you are interested in is chatting and cuddling your regulars, all customers matter !!!

I recommend booking as there aren't many pubs in the area sadly and there is a near by campervan park. We did the local walk to Craggleston Castle then returned for lunch. I had the beer battered fish and chips and it was one of the nicest fish I've had, really crispy batter. 1 real ale, Belhaven 80 shilling. A beer garden out the back but too cool for that today.

Visited whilst staying in Garlieston. Phoned the day before to book, left a voicemail, but no return call. Managed to book a table eventually. Food was good and plentiful . We were served by a total of 4 waitresses. Same waitress forgot to bring the dessert menu when requested, she eventually remembered BUT the second pint my hubby ordered at the same time as dessert never materialised. He couldn’t be bothered to wait any longer and no one picked up on the fact there was an empty pint glass at the end of the table! I’d finished my wine by then so we paid and left. It was a shame because some of the other waitresses seemed far more diligent.

We were really looking forward to eating here after the reviews but it didn't live up to expectations. Service was slow and we waited a very long time for drinks although we did receive an apology as they had forgotten. Staff were friendly and explained they were really busy as there was a birthday party in another room. Food was ok but nothing special, the fish was fresh and a good portion but the batter was very oily. I think we were just unlucky.

Great value, excellent location with some stunning beaches nearby. Very good value, honest home cooked food in the pub. Apartment was very clean with everything you need including washing machine. Some of the furniture is cheap/dated but it is comfy and clean. Entrance stairway way is not the most appealing but considering the price of well below £100 a night for four people we felt it was excellent value and the staff were fantastic and friendly. Those of us who are sufficiently fortunate to have the 'Harbour Inn' on our doorstep throughout the year are never surprised at its popularity when the holiday season commences such is the ever present warmth on entering from all who pleasantly service this place, until leaving. Yesterday evening held no exception. The weekly tempting variety menu apart, Friday seafood specials from our experience provide succulent 'Starters' and spoilt-for-choice 'Mains'. "How about":- Cajun spiced fillet of Halibut with oven roasted vegetables, lime and parsley butter with a choice of side order. (That beautifully cooked dish really 'hit the spot') My wife thoroughly enjoyed 'Pan seared fillet of Sole' served with Haggis mash potato, cheddar and (Arran whisky sauce thoughtfully served separately) with a side of vegetables. Thank you all at the 'Harbour Inn' for the past 12 months of 'Friday Seafood Specials' and now looking forward to the next twelve months. (- lack of 'foody photos' I'm afraid. It's taken several years for me to appreciate that my photographs never ever reflect the amount of effort in presentation nor convey the lovely aromas or flavour)

This pub/restaurant gets a lots a lot of business from the nearby caravan site, and as such has good throughput of customers. The food is well prepared pub food, and the staff arfe very friendly. Good range of beers and wines. When you cannot be bothered preparing a caravan meal then this is the place to come.

On a lovely sunny day we took a drive to Garlieston. We had heard about the Harbour Inn so decided to give it a go for lunch. So glad we did, it was super.

Our second visit and no complaints from us. The skillet meals looked fab but we chose other items, DH and DS1 enjoyed traditional fish n chips... huge portions, I had monkfish skewered on rosemary served on a tasty and filling pearl barley rissoto and DS2 opted for macaroni cheese which he polished off.

Just returned from a terrible experience at the Harbour Inn. We had high hopes for this establishment given the recent good reviews. We both decided to plump for the carvery, as we were not keen on the standard menu items which sounded a bit like a motorway service station menu. We had to leave our table and walk past the toilet corridor and into another room to collect our food, We probably realised on first sight that this was not going to go well as the food looked rather like school dinners. We both decided to give the roast beef a try. The lady struggled to carve it it was so tough. A lady who we think was the owner had to help pull the end away...then two tiny slithers were allocated to me, .A Yorkshire pudding was then flung on to my plate, two roast potatoes and help yourself carrots and peas. We then made our way back from the other room to the main restaurant and started to eat. Everything apart from the meat was cold. The meat was as expected, completely overdone. I can’t describe the roast potatoes, so I won’t try to. We called over a waitress to tell her and she said well no one else has complained. There was no attempt by any of the owners to come to the table and so we asked the waitress if we could pay for the drinks. We told us to pay for them at the bar, which we did. Very disappointing.

Worth booking to eat here on Fridays, as the chef cannot tell you what will be on the menu until the fish arrives on the Thursday. We had fish kebabs and fish soup (more like a stew) as starters, followed by mixed fish crumble and lemon sole with samphire and smoky bacon mash.Good to see monkfish, pollock and coley on a menu for a change. Good varied menu available if you don't like fish, the staff were friendly nd helpful.

Great Fish & Chips followed by yummy Sticky Toffee pudd with ice cream washed down with Harbour Inn Ale and looked after by excellent staff. Thank you team Harbour Inn - we had a great cycle down, overnight camp and loaded up for the next days cycle back.

An extremely busy pub both with locals and visitors. Booking is a must. Staff were very pleasant and very hard working. Food was very god and a good choice. We visited twice during our week's stay. All tables were reserved on both occasions.

We found this little place after a lovely morning spent at Galloway House Gardens. Popped in for a drink and a sandwich. Beer was great, sandwich and spicy wedges very tasty and such lovely friendly staff too.

Popped in for lunchtime snack, had cheese and onion toasties which arrived with a side salad. Cost £4.50 each. This is a dog friendly pub as long as it is on a lead and stays on the floor.

Friendly, relaxed, flexible and fun. Nick was a brilliant teacher and good company. Took Mother for some quality time together and she was immediately put at ease and we both had a lovely time. Will definitely go again. If you want quality experiences with friends and family AND you want to learn some great life skills to boot then book your place!

This cafe served the worst scone I have ever had / didn't have. (and that's saying something as I'm in my 70s and have had a few in my time. You could build a house with a few of them. Inedible expensive rubbish. It came in a paper bag, no plate and a wooden disposable knife which struggled to cut it. The coffee was served in a paper cup. But was drinkable. Cost over £13 for two coffees and two inedible scones. I am disgusted and will definitely won't be back

Just superb all round - the food [first and foremost] was fantastic! The vibe & atmosphere were spot-on - great music, decor, everything. Will be back for sure - gotta try that Malaysian Curry next! Had the burrito this time, which was awesome! And the Sticky Toffee Carrot Cake… Ummm… Can I have some more, please? Took me far too long to get my bum in the door - won’t be dilly-dallying about for Round 2, I can tell ya that!

Visited the Frothy this morning for the first & very last time as the cafe is closing. Whilst the cafe was comfortable the coffee wasn’t the best ever tasted and we were stunned at the price! Compared to other coffee houses close by it was surprising; could this be a reason they are not finding it profitable?
