Staff very friendly, room spacious and clean food in hotel restaurant very tasty. Breakfast was really good and well cooked

We visited The Crown Hotel for some dinner on Sunday. We had a carvery dinner and it was really lovely. It was also great that we could take our dog in with us. Would recommend it to anyone.

Last minute booking,well suited with the choice,restaurant if you wish or a cozy bar area as we decided upon.Food was great and the bar lad was extremely professional and knowledgeable.

We had a family meal in the Crown and the food was fantastic. When you get Chicken Chilli Garlic that is far better than you can get from the 2 local Chineese takeaways then you know that you are on to a winner!!

Stopped on the 9th till 11th August staff very pleasant..Room very clean everything you need was there .. breakfast was included what a great choice ..would definitely stop again..food at night was very reasonable priced

This restaurant was recommended to us by our B&B proprietor. We had a very enjoyable meal here, It was clearly popular, as the restaurant filled quite quickly after our arrival. I opted for the beer battered haddock, chips and peas served with tartare sauce….delicious and served piping hot. My husband opted for the lovely sounding Korean style chicken strips in a honey, garlic sauce served with rice. He said it was so delicious he could have eaten it all over again….a compliment indeed. We both chose Apple Crumble and custard for dessert, again, really enjoyable. Friendly professional young staff….would highly recommend

Close to the Bruce that didnt offer an evening meal,the Crown was recommeded.Not sure why but an average meal -the young ladies who waited tables had a good chat in the kitchen-shame about the waiting customers.3 different girls served me -none seemed to know who was designated my table .more training needed.

We went here for late lunch while we were staying in the area and was not disappointed. The front of the building is deceiving as it opens up into a lovely decorated restaurant downstairs. The food was exceptional, the nacho starters are the best I have ever tasted! My partner got the prawn cocktail and didn’t disappoint. We got the chicken chips and salad too and was so much eating. Hats off to the chef 5*

When here for dinner on a out of season midweek meal. Great food, great service, good knowledge of alergines. Would recommend. (Don't be fooled by the slightly unloved outside, the dinning area is well loved)

Meal was nice, filling too. The portions were big but the food wasn’t overly amazing, the peppercorn sauce served with the steak was a bit bland. Overall was good and good value too.

Ate here the first and last nights of a long weekend - good classic fare but no better, which for £25 per person inc drinks feels quite expensive

Staff friendly. Rooms and food very average. Hotel is "tired". Car park is handy. (I had to write 100 characters)! Would not recommend or return.

We were staying in the area.It was a recommend.from someone we were not disappointed.welcome was lovely all staff so friendly and helpful .it was safe and spotless.my husband had the steak pie I had a chicken steak with peppercorn sauce.both were lovely.then i had apple crumble and ice cream.husband had cheesecake. Thanks to all staff.we will return if we are in the area again.

Had a pleasant dinner with the Mrs here. Menu is a little limited, but it wasn't bad at all. Had the steak and ale pie for main and the haggis bruchetta to start. The peppercorn sauce on the starter was very overpowering, but the pie was really good. Wish I had mash instead of chips! Mrs had chicken fillets and mash with the peppercorn sauce (again overpowering) and brownie to finish. I couldn't comment on the brownie as she finished it in 3 minutes. Definitely worth a visit, and pre book!!

Twice now we have ate here while on holiday and both times we have enjoyed our meals. we will be back.

For our wee date night it was lovely ! Our food was fabulous! Staff were extremely friendly and helpful! They have a great free from menu that distinguished everything perfect !

Lovely staff and felt very safe and then protocols were good. Steak pie was nice but the burgers were disappointing. Advertised as steak burgers they lacked flavour and were greasy. They would be better chargrilled.

We visit Knights restaurant anytime we are staying at nearby Conifer Lodges and have never been disappointed. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly and in these times of Covid adhering to the guidelines. Our meal was delicious managed (just) 3 courses altho...

The newly refurbished restaurant is lovely, very homely and contemporary. The decor is sooo nice. Staff where very pleasant and helpful and nothing was too much bother for them. The food was fab, portions where huge and can’t wait to return!

My wife and I had only visited Sunday for the carvery. We were so impressed we returned two days later for dinner. A well laid out menu with sufficient choice to choose from. My wife had the sea bass, prawns and chorizo on a risotto...

We got a very friendly welcome, had a delicious dinner and enjoyed well kept Ruddles county beer. Room was nice, breakfast was excellent, waitress was very chatty. Terrific place to stay.

Really friendly staff. Called in on a whim whilst travelling through. Had two dogs with us. Welcomed to eat in both the bar and restaurant areas. Food was great, good choice. Served hot and timely. Well worth a stop.

Popped in for an evening meal whilst on a break in Newton Stewart. Took half an hour to come and take our order. Would not recommend the sharing platter ... obviously all cooked / fried together...and was very over cooked. The main meal was just...

Stopped here recently for lunch. A great variety in choice in the menu. The quality of the food matched the choice. Dog friendly which is another plus. Definitely recommend.

Popped in for a quick bite at lunchtime. It was empty and had to look round for staff to serve. Lunch menu was typically pub grub with the first choice of my wife being unavailable. Food was okay and the price reasonable. Many thanks

If you want to go out eat a nice meal in Newton Stewart, you just walk on along the main road and spot this hotel on your left. Don't let you deceive about the poor state of the main street. Just walk in and walk for the back. You'll encounter a nice fibe, good variety of different food and great desert. Only the beercard could be better; just ask for the special tab from the bar.

Went to this restaurant for my wife’s birthday to say we were disappointed is an understatement staff were friendly but that was all , food was poor and very small portions and very expensive would never recommend or go back to this place again

Took our son to the Crown Hotel for the Sunday Carvery. As always the staff are attentive and courteous. The food was hot and delicious. My wife and he had a desserts - which looked super.

Down in newton Stewart for a few day and thought we would try this place. Interior is nice enough and they have made an effort which you can see when you go into the restaurant.

Don't let the exterior bit you off. Inside the restaurant was modern and spacious.

Nice dining room but meals were average. I ordered steak burger, how disappointing. I expected local sources beef with a juicy and open texture, I got a dense heavy lump the looked as if it had been cooked from frozen, no grill marks so cooked in a merry chef oven.

We came for Sunday lunch and chose to have the carvery. The restaurant was bright and clean, the staff were helpful and friendly, everyone received a large portion of meat (unlike other places that give you one slice) and there was a big selection of veg, potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding. The food was delicious and everyone said they would certainly be back. Very impressed.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch. Friendly service, excellent car very with good choice of meats and veg. Good value.

Over the years, the meals we have experienced at the Crown have varied from very good (several years ago) to extremely average (recently).

This is such a great place. Room is amazing, food brilliant, staff are so welcoming and helpful. Definitely be booking this place again when I’m back down this way!

40th Anniversay Dinner with family in the conseervatory. Ages from 63 to 18mths. Fod good, room for little person to wander in and out. Food good, service quick, busy in restaurant but still reasonably quick. Food good

Very busy restaurant (Sunday evening) and they were having to use the conservatory, which actually was good because it was quieter! The menu, food and staff were very good.

4 of us had 3 courses and all very good. tempura prawns and sea bass were the stars. the food and wine were excellent value for money .. restaurant is lovely inside and the staff who dealt with us were really nice ..polite and professional. don't miss the cocktails !

We were warmly welcomed and the room was clean and comfortable. Excellent for gluten free food! We had an evening meal and breakfast there Excellent value for money and with that breakfast you will not leave hungry!!!

Lunch for four while on holiday. Sharing starter and nachos for the table then fajitas, steak pie and a chicken burger. Good sized portions and moderate prices. Fabby. Service was quick and friendly, lovely young girl serving us. Ordered a coffee and had a game or two of pool in the bar area. Quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Good music to dine to. Would be back if in town again.

I’ve been here on many occasions and have never been disappointed. The food is high quality, cooked beautifully, the prices are not unreasonable, if you’re in the area don’t miss this restaurant.

Came here with my boyfriend after finding this place on trip advisor during a short trip to the area. We were trying to find somewhere with some vegan options to suit me and other stuff for him and this place was great. Our server Aaron was really helpful and pleasant, able to answer my questions quickly and provide us with excellent service, the other servers were all lovely and polite. Kitchen were very kind in going a bit off menu to accommodate for us. Definitely recommend! The puy lentil roast is amazing.

This was a last minute decision as we were passing through and it’s was a good decision the meals were lovely and were warm and plentiful... service was good as well.. we will definitely return when passing through again

Myself and my husband decided to visit while staying in Newton Stewart for a week. My husband had tempura prawns and I had chicken goujons for starters and both had buttered chicken curry for main course. All well cooked and tasty not cheap but reasonably priced. Service good. Would visit again

We decided to have an evening meal at the Crown on one of their busiest nights.. market day! When we called to book a table they warned us that it was a 'cut down menu's due to it being market day. We decided to go anyway.

Very nice dog friendly place to eat. It was lovely inside with excellent food and service. The young man who served us was so nice and helpful.

The bar in the Crown is split into two parts, and as the posher part seemed to be dedicated to diners when we were there, we happily sat at the bar in the public bar.

The staff are so helpful and friendly can’t do enough for you. It’s disabled and pet friendly everything that you could ask for and more

Had a meal here tonight with friends. Had seen good reviews on TripAdvisor so decided to try it. It certainly deserves all the good reviews, the Stornaway Chicken was delicious the rest of our group really enjoyed their main courses and of course we all had desserts. Very reasonably priced and lovely decor. Would definitely visit again

Large nicely-decorated dining room, in separate areas so it did not feel like a hall. My husband enjoyed the steak pie, but I just cannot remember what I had - I remember enjoying it, though! They did well as an extremely large family came in just after us, but didn't delay our dinners. Pleasant, polite staff.

We are local and have eaten on a number of occasions in the Crown and recommended it in the past and have found the young staff members very pleasant and friendly and advising us of recommendations and chatty.

The Crown Hotel restaurant has a lovely family friendly atmosphere. The service is excellent, and the food is good, with a varied menu to choose from.

The Crown was recommended by the landlady of the guest house we were stopping at overnight. The meal was very good and plentiful and the service was very good. Would recommend this hotel for a lovely evening meal in nice surroundings.

Not what you expect when you go into the hotel from the outside, the place is nicely done out with tasty decor, the bar is small but friendly

Staying nearby so decided to go here for the one night as they said they were dog friendly. When we pulled outside it looked a bit shabby, but once inside it was lovely. The young lad and girl in the bar could not do enough for us. They brought water and treats out for our dog and waited on us promptly even though we were sat outside in the garden area. The food was unbelievable , I had a Chinese chicken which was delightful and had a hell of a kick to it, my wife had a chicken and black pudding which she said was just as good.

Recommended by our landlady & was not disappointed, bar staff ver y obliging & helpful, such a modern clean place, food was served quickly, we had the fish & chips & Seabass & king prawn risotto excellent, you can eat either in the bar area which have booths or the restaurant. Altogether a very enjoyable evening definitely would recommend it if your in the area.

Unfortunately we arrived in Newton Stewart just after 5pm and most coffee shops/cafes were closed for the day so we thought we would try the Crown Hotel. Friendly welcome at Reception. We were directed to the bar while the restaurant area had a table prepared for us. Bar area could do with a smarten up and there was a layer of dust on some of the chairs. We bought drinks at the bar and not too long after, menus were offered for the restaurant.

Called here as staying nearby on a weekend break. Inside bears no resemblance to exterior which wouldn't win any prizes. Busy restaurant, staff friendly and helpful. Order what you like from bar or restaurant menu and sit where you want. Sports bar one side, booth style bench seating and tables in a second bar. Tried out buttered chicken curry and veggie risotto. Decent portions beautifully cooked tasty dishes delivered piping hot and rapid service given restaurant was busy at the time we called. Great gin menu with various suggestions for tonic mixes. Lots of cocktails also available and watched bar staff happily making a great variety of non-alcoholic variants. Would definitely recommend.

What a welcome we had! Staff were very attentive, especially those of us who like fell walking.as the staff were very well informed about the area and its amenities. Food and beverages were excellent and the restaurant accommodated over 20 of us with an excellent meal. Thoroughly recommended in a most charming area of Scotland. If you are in Newton Stewart do not miss this pub and restaurant if you are in need of refreshment and a social gathering.

Very disabled friendly. The staff is as good as the food and that’s out of this world. We had a fantastic meal here all cooked fresh really out of this world. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Am in a wheelchair and could get in and out with no problems it’s lovely to be able to get such a lovely meal it’s pet friendly as well.

Had our evening meal here while on holiday in the area and was very pleasantly surprised by the food. The exterior looks in need of some paint and the advertising sign opposite could do with repainting but once inside 5he service and food are very good.

Called here for an evening meal, our holiday rental was nearby. Very surprised when we walked in, as it is much more modern than the exterior. Very welcoming staff, excellent menu and the food was very good. Would recommend.

Didn't look quite so inviting from the outside but once inside we were greeted by a lovely young man who did warn us that there would be a delay in taking our order due to a large party. We decided this wasn't a problem and made our way to the restaurant, again to be greeted by lovely staff, all three were were very helpful throughout out meal. The steak pies were cooked perfectly and so delicious, vegetables cooked to perfection. Well worth a visit. Thank you to all at The Crown.

We visited the Crown Hotel for an evening meal, expecting reasonable pub grub. We were pleasantly surprised that the quality of food and service made this a really nice meal. It's a shame I was with my walking buddy and not my wife!!

Very welcoming, the food was very good. The staff dealt with my gluten intolerance well, and the chef was able to do a gluten free batter for fish and chips which impressed me very much, having failed myself to do gluten free batters at home. The batter was so crispy and better than the wheatflour ones I used to enjoy years ago.

Watched rugby matches in Crown Hotel Pub at weekend. Great atmosphere and superb food- especially the chips! So happy that this little find is also doggy friendly.

Went with family for Sunday lunch and had the carvery, you could either have just the carvery main course or two course or three course, we opted for the two course - starter and main. Starters were great, I had the prawn tempura which was huge, this would have done as a main course for me! We then went up to the carvery to pick a choice of meats, veg and sides, all nicely cooked. A great meal! Staff very pleasant and attentive and you were not rushed which was nice.

Visited the crown during a weekend break with my girlfriend and what fantastic fare we were served. The sea bass risotto was to die for. Nicely decorated with very well trained and attentive young staff. A very relaxed atmosphere and great to see such a fantastic asset to the town of Newton Stewart. Keep up the good work folks. We will definitely be back and we’ll be sure to tell our friends.

Ate here two nights while staying in Newton Stewart. Service was excellent with friendly staff particularly Thomas who was happy to chat and make you feel welcome. Good varied selection of food which was well cooked and nicely presented.

We visited Newton Stewart on a coach trip and pre-booked lunch at the Crown. The food was excellent, the service was really good and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. The restaurant was bright and comfortable and there is a beer garden at the back. All of our party said they would go there again.

A real little gem undergoing continuous improvement. The food was plentiful well prepared and served with a smile. The staff were very pleasant and obviously well trained and briefed. We will return to this place again😀

We are 3 adults and came in for Sunday lunch, this included the very popular Carvery. We were greeted and shown to a table, it was getting very busy but we were looked after promptly. You can have a main course only for under £10.00 which was for the Carvery or 2 courses £13.95 or 3 courses £16.95. I wasn’t too hungry so my partner and I had the 2 course and I chose from the starter’s, he had roast beef Carvery, his mum had the roast beef Carvery also. They really enjoyed the beef, it was extremely tender, one of the best roast beef’s they have ever tasted. There was a very good selection of vegetables, the Yorkshire puddings were well risen and light. There was mash and roast potatoes both very well cooked and the stuffing was good quality. They were both very impressed and thought it was best Carvery ever had. I had prawn cocktail which was well presented, not in a tall glass as such but a plate. It looked very tasty, however the prawns were very chewy for some reason. The dressing was lovely but I couldn’t eat the prawns and had to send it back. The waitress was very apologetic, and our bill would be adjusted to the main course only. She asked “can I get you anything, a drink or something”. I said no as I still had an almost full pint of cider. I was given the option of choosing something else but I declined. The young waitress (slim, long blond hair in a pony tail) was very pleasant and dealt with this in a very polite manner, I was impressed with her.

We were on holiday at the Conifers and paid a visit to the Crown for an evening meal. It was so good we returned the next day for the carvery. Also must mention their cocktails which were excellent, in fact so good we had a few !

Good food from the a la carte menu, could just do with having extra staff on busy evenings. Sunday roast was very popular would recommend booking in advance.

Can't believe this doesn't feature more highly. From the immaculate & tasteful Knight's layout & decor to the reasonably priced, proper chef produced food, this place is by far the best eaterie we've found in the area having now stayed in Galloway several times. Able to cater well for a vegan, and 5 year old & assorted people with high standards. Gorgeous food & good selection with friendly & helpful staff. Couldn't believe two course meal & a glass of wine here cost little more than sandwiches & coffee in a trendy cafe in Stranraer. I highly recommend every aspect, we'll be going again on our final night in the area. Lovely outdoor area for good weather too.

I have eaten in the Crown a few times before on previous visits to Newton Stewart. This was a meal on the last night of our holiday and our wedding anniversary. We all had a lovely meal with very good service and quite an extensive menu, something to suit everyone in our party.

Celebrated my birthday with my daughter at the carvery, it was great and very economical, would certainly return.

good selection , hot well cooked evening meal , good variety in breakfast again hot well cooking plus porridge was good. can change what you want on menu to suit really good chef and staff in restaurant
