I have been on a few cooking classes and I have enjoyed this one the most so far. Normally the classes have been packed to capacity and although I left with skills I did not have full understanding of why I was doing things. These classes were smaller, Nick gave me new skills but also answered some of the things I did but never knew why. I did 2 courses, one with my son and a full day for myself. We will be back for more classes as it was fantastic value for money.

This cooking class was a 5/5 star experience. From the food to the chef, everything was amazing. Nick was informative and educational whilst still being fun and patient. Everything tasted exquisite. Perfect pasta, magnificent meringues, brilliant blowtorches; we recommend this class for anyone from the ages 10-80. Everyone coming to Galloway should visit the station house cookery school for an exceptional day out. We will definitely be back!

Great day at the Introduction to Indian Cookery class. Spent the morning watching Nick and learning how to chop, how to season and how to bring out flavours. Best way to cook rice and even make roti. Learned such a lot. After sampling the dishes we were set loose in the kitchen and got the chance to have a go ourselves. Loved it! Would definitely try the recipes at home now and would definitely recommend Nick’s Cookery School. Nick gave us a warm welcome and was generous with his knowledge and professional hints and tips. Fabulous day.

My wife and I had a really enjoyable day at Nick Morris' cookery school. He recommended the Selkirk Arms Hotel for our stay and we were not disappointed. The course we chose was fish preparation and cooking. We learned how to gut and fillet flat and round fish. It was great fun and informative... a lovely opportunity to meet people sharing an interest in cooking and quality food. Nick has taken a lot of trouble to convert what was the Kirkcudbright railway station and to design the school so that the experience is perfect. In the classroom an overhead mirror and live video screen allow students to see everything that is being demonstrated really clearly and Nick's explanations were detailed and expertly delivered. The working area has individual stations that are well spaced out so there is plenty of room to work and practice what has been learned. Nick was very attentive and seemed to have plenty of time for everyone, giving useful tips, advice and lots of encouragement as he went round the room. All in all, and coupled with a lovely stay in a comfortable, hotel with friendly staff, an excellent menu and high quality food, we really enjoyed our visit to Kirkcudbright. For the more active, there are loads of other things to do in the area, fishing (sea, loch and river), bird watching, cycling, walking, or just touring by car. The Solway coast is breathtaking. So I highly recommend making a week of it in addition to one of Nick's cookery courses. You will not be disappointed.

We popped in because someone said we should try this place. Other than the nice couple we met who was dining next to us, we definitely do not recommend going here. We requested a half and half pizza (half pizza has meat and one side doesn’t) but the staff said we were not allowed to do it. Then the manager said we could which pleased us considering one of our party had a dietary restriction. We were the only ones in the place and our pizza took quite a long time. We ordered an appetizer which never arrived prior to the main meal. When we received our pizza, we asked about the appetizer. The waitress goes to check and we heard them in the kitchen saying they never put it in. We received our appetizer halfway through our meal. The pizza presentation was messy. The chicken chunks (see photo) were thrown mostly on one side and they were quite large. The second photo is their version of garlic bread. Our waitress never checked on us. We had to flag her down for everything from beverage refills to napkins. After we were done eating, they never came to clear our dishes. On the plus side, the prices were decent, the portions are large and there is street parking.

Bought voucher after talking to Nick (the owner) at a food festival in Kirkcudbright 2018. Never thought there would be anything like that locally (even though I live 40 plus miles away) Didn't use it till now. Never been to a cookery school before, never eaten Thai food let alone cooked it! It was excellent, Nick talked all the time while he prepared and cooked the food. Taught us how to do things correctly, to taste the food before and after cooking, gave us lots of tips etc. We were then given the food to taste and eat, it was excellent. There were questions and answers during the whole day. After a break for lunch, it was our turn to make the same meal, to take home hopefully! Nick was with us all the time checking we did it correctly, in a nice friendly way. With all the tips and advice we all managed it, even me!! I had a great day that went so quickly and enjoyed it so much, I bought another voucher and am looking forward to learning more, this time maybe Indian cooking!! Elsie S.

We happened on the cafe while walking around Kirkcudbright, what an amazing piece of luck for us! We had two of the most delicious sandwiches you could possibly wish for. The bread had been baked that morning, the fillings were almost too much for the bread. The grilled veg and hummus was warm and mouthwatering and the citrus and prawn had to be eaten as an open sandwich as once again, the helping was very generous. They were both accompanied by home made coleslaw and a delicious salad. I’m a tea drinker and very often disappointed by some brews I have bought but once again they came up trumps. It was just as you would make at home, two good cup fulls from the pot and they were very happy to top up with hot water when asked. We also split a chocolate drop scone between us. This arrived on warm plates with a container of butter (not cold portions!) All I can say is Mmmmmmm, wonderful! The staff were so friendly and surroundings cosy. I’m even considering going on one of their cookery lessons as they certainly know what they are doing in the culinary stakes. Top marks to all.

We booked to go on a Friday evening and was told to look at the menu on facebook before we arrived as it was a fixed option of veg or meat courses. They allow dogs in which was great and we got there early around 6:30/7. We were shown a table and that was it ! we waited for 20min and watched a girl rush in and out of the kitchen and cleaning cutlery. Just as were about ask if they were going to take our orders two meat dishes arrived ! We said we had not ordered and that we were going to order one of each as my wife dislikes one of the ingrediants and was greeted with a blind stare and one of the meals removed ! some mins later after shuffling through paperwork and talking to the kitchen they returned and said there would be a delay as they freshly cook my wifes option..... I was left with my plate on the table ! I ate mine while my wife looked on and then 15mins later hers appeared and i did the same while she ate. ! The deserts arrived at the same time but during the first 3/4 of an hour we were they we were not even offered any drinks and it was then we were told they didnt have a licence ! After our meal the chef and i think owner did come out and say sorry and offered a discount and the food really was excellent. We were on our way to catch the ferry at Cairnryan and had a couple of hours to spare and decided to veer off our route to have a coffee. We're so glad we did because we discovered the Station House!! It was a beautiful hot summer Sunday morning and we sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine. We had delicious coffee and the most amazing raspberry and white chocolate scone I think I've ever tasted. Even the toilet is worth paying a visit to, with its sliding door and decor. Just loved this little cafe and so glad we discovered it.

This place serves exceptional food and drink. The raspberry and white chocolate scone and rose lemonade we tried yesterday were amazing! Only downside is the small size of the place.

Popped to this cafe for a celebration breakfast Friday morning, food was faultless, beautiful in presentation and delicious to taste, quality ingredients all round. So much so we decided to call back this evening for the set menu supper. Once again it did not disappoint. Scallops followed by sea bass were scummy, but my absolute favourite was the lemon posset served with melt in the mouth shortbreads - would go as far as saying the best posset I’ve ever tasted and that’s saying something!

We had lunch in the sun outside this restaurant and the dogs got treats! Prawn sandwiches were beautiful. Lovely bread and fantastic honey and mustard dresssing on the salad. The owner gave us a tour of the cook school facilities which look excellent.

Stumbled across this wonderful cafe in mid afternoon and had the most delicious home made ice cream. Coffee and cinnamon was a flavour I had never heard of but I'll back back to try it again. The coffee was also excellent.

I recently visited for a great lunch, the food is all fresh, local produce and you can taste the difference. The staff are friendly and the atmospehere is warm, casual and stylish. The new Cookery School looks absolutely fantastic and offers classes for adults and kids. I look forward to visiting soon.

A cute cafe in the former train station buildings. Great food. The soup of the day was a delicious pumpkin and sweet potato with a bit of a kick to it and came with a choice of white or wholemeal bread. Carrot cake was delicious. One of the better coffees we’ve had so far in Scotland.

Grand opening of the Cookery School over last weekend went well with 4 demos in the demonstration room that seats 40. Watched a cook off between Nick the patron and Chris Walker of the Selkirk Arms, with a dead heat on the adult votes.

I came in with a group of people with special needs and mobility issues. This café is in a great location as we could park our mobility vehicle right outside and they have a wheelchair access toilet. Not only were the staff welcoming and accommodating, they were so friendly that they took the time to talk to us and look after our every need. We enjoyed meeting the chef and talking to him about the lovely cakes we were having. We also met the owner and we all told him that we had a great time and enjoyed ourselves so much that we would be back. I would choose this café again for its accessibility, great cakes and coffee, and above all it's friendly and accommodating staff.

Wish we had come here at the beginning of our stay in the area. Would have loved to join a class. Glad that at least were able to try some light options for a late lunch. The side salads were great. Had an egg mayo open sandwich. Which came with a delicious and well presented side salad and a slaw in an interesting platter. Husband had a simple salad with a fresh roll and home made butter. Sis had a yogurt, granola with a small berry compot. Again all served on a pretty platter.

Plenty roadside parking available outside the cafe with seating also available outside which was in use by hardier souls than us on the changeable weather day. we visited. The inside gave the impression of recently reburished but with delightful wooden polished tables not too tightly put together and adding to the ambiance. The menu was a mixture of all day dishes and imaginative specials. Everything appeared to be cooked fresh although there was also a fine selection of home baked cakes and scones which we also sampled. The staff were helpful and cheerful as they dealt with lunch requests and drop in coffee and cake elevenses through lunch hour all were served in the order they arrived with equal cheerfulness. An unexpected enjoyable experience.

Was in this morning with my better half, I had the French toast with sausage and bacon with the brown sauce, along with a mocha and I could not fault a thing. Sausage and the bacon were perfectly cooked and my mocha was amazing. I would definitely call in again.

I came in today to order a takeaway sausage roll, which I asked for the sausages to be well cooked because that’s just how I prefer to eat them, I do not see a problem with wanting to eat well cooked minced pork. However, it would seem that the chef did have a problem with such a request, and I feel if he’s going to comment on what a “strange & weird” request it is, and if I’m sure I know what I’m ordering & if he’s going to talk about customers, make sure they can’t hear? I felt very uncomfortable. Also, when I received it and got back to work, I found it was barely cooked, the “fresh baked bread” was under baked and doughy (Paul Hollywood would not approve, no handshake for you) the ketchup which I usually really like was far too sweet and sickly. To add insult to injury, I had a 2 minute walk back to work and my sandwich was cold and I ended up having to microwave it warm again. Also as I stood waiting for my takeaway, I could see right into the kitchen and a member of staff was eating themselves, whilst preparing other food, and there was quite a few dirty coffee cups on a food prep table. Not exactly what you want to see after ordering food.

I never thought I would ever go for a cookery lesson, let alone enjoy it, but it was fantastic. It was on Indian cooking, and apart from learning and making several amazing dishes, I learned how to bone a chicken, how to mix spices, what knives were used for what etc.

I attended a pork cookery class, Pork Dishes of the World, at the Station House in early February. The proprietor, Nick, welcomed us with a delicious light breakfast and an introduction to the day. We then heard about pig rearing from a local, specialist producer whose pork we were to be using in our dishes.

Visited the Frothy this morning for the first & very last time as the cafe is closing. Whilst the cafe was comfortable the coffee wasn’t the best ever tasted and we were stunned at the price! Compared to other coffee houses close by it was surprising; could this be a reason they are not finding it profitable?

Went for breakfast & the place was pretty quiet. Disappointed with portion size. Ordered 2 x breakfast & 2 x cup of teas which came to £25.75. Gave feedback to member of staff & they were not interested. Won’t be back.

I go here regularly for a carvery as it is one of the best I have been to. I am a very fussy eater and to find a carvery that serves chicken as an option is surprising difficult. The three meats to choose from are usually chicken, beef and gammon/ham. The veg/side options usually include cauliflower cheese, broccoli, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, cocktail sausages and stuffing, but the roast tatties are my favourite part of the meal! You are limited to going up to fill your plate only once but I usually leave feeling very full. Sometimes I have soup as a starter as well depending on what kind it is. I highly recommend giving the carvery a go for anyone who is a fan of a good roast!

This cafe served the worst scone I have ever had / didn't have. (and that's saying something as I'm in my 70s and have had a few in my time. You could build a house with a few of them. Inedible expensive rubbish. It came in a paper bag, no plate and a wooden disposable knife which struggled to cut it. The coffee was served in a paper cup. But was drinkable. Cost over £13 for two coffees and two inedible scones. I am disgusted and will definitely won't be back
