Very friendly staff, food excellent

Went for dinner at Star restaurant and have to say it was such a pleasant surprise. Service excellent and food just as good. I had Lasagne and it was delicious. Service was friendly and efficient, loved it and will definitely be back.

Great staff and service . Very comfortable rooms, vey clean ans specious , highly recomended and good value for money for being at the central location. Parking available outside good wi-fi signal and food is a pub traditional food

We had a very unfortunate experience here, greeted in an aggressive manner by a woman who refused us entry to the lounge. We were told we should go to the Star bar down the lane. The lounge was empty, fortunately didn't go to the Star bar we have since been informed that its rough and cold. Won't be back. There is a lovely Dog friendly pub on the opposite side of the road we will spend our money where we are welcome.

Didn't stay, just called in for lunch. It was really cosy with a friendly atmosphere. The staff were lovely and the food was great, will definitely eat here again.

Came into the restaurant for something to eat while spending a day in Moffat. Food is reasonably priced, but the quality of food could be better. Lentil soup was severely bland it was like drinking hot water with a slight taste of actual lentil. It was as if the chef was topping up the soup with hot water instead of making more? Fries tasted of old oil, as if the oil in the fryer had not been changed in a while. Service was decent, but I think the chef/cook could improve.

Amazing place to stay, highly recommended.

This hotel is very clean, quiet and comfortable and the staff really go the extra mile to look after the guests.

Dad and I had venison pie, which we really enjoyed. Mum had a plate full of scampi, chips, peas and a bit of salad. The pie was very hot, so just a little tricky tipping it onto our plates, but we managed it. I’d rather it to be very hot rather than Luke warm! We thoroughly enjoyed our food and are coming again at the weekend. We are here on holiday and would recommend to others.

This place is amazing! Family party of eight this included three kids. Staff could not be friendlier and accommodating. One of the children had an accident dropping food they were straight over offering help and gave a replacement. All our food was delicious and generous proportions! We are about an hours drive away and definitely want to visit again!!!

We always book in here for a meal when we stay at the campsite .Never had a bad meal here and the Sunday roast is great value .Always specials on with friendly attentive staff and great value .Will be back next visit !

Had a great stay here, really friendly staff. Room was lovely, dinner was lovely. Breakfast was nice good choice but all our sausages were burnt.. other than that great stay all round. Will definitely return

Good food Good service Good value

Dropped in for a meal after a day out in the hills. We both ate gammon steaks. And not your usual horseshoe type was a cured pork chop. Thought it would be dry but by god it wasn't. Beautiful bit of meat. Ample portion of chips too and a wee ramekin of beans. Top grub and a quality pint too.(Guest ale)

This is a review for the restaurant. We arrived looking for something to eat just after 5pm. Just as well we did as this place was booked out for the evening. It was really busy for an ordinary Monday. The staff were very welcoming and the food was delicious. It was so good we came back the following evening. Once again we arrived just after 5pm and again, it was booked out for the evening. This is highly recommended and obviously has a known standard. We were fortunate to get a table twice and probably because there was just two of us. We did notice they were turning people away.

Can't comment on the rooms as I didn't stay there. Excellent service, amazing food. Group of 4, everyone thoroughly enjoyed what we had. There was a wait for the food but it was fresh, beautiful and hot when we got it. Worth the wait for sure. I had the Venison pie and it was perfect. A fair price for quality food and drink. A must to try.

Most of the pubs in Moffat are really friendly, not this place. The barman was a right misery and the locals were not that happy either. Perhaps it was a Monday night ? Or a Brummie accent ?

Excellent service and the venison pie was full of tender meat. Lasagne and curry were also excellent. Good service and Aspall cider was reasonably priced. Thought the soft drinks were a bit pricey. Overall a good experience.

Good service from the staff but the meals were a bit of a let down. The venison pie did have plenty of thick chunks of venison but also had something that resembled fat, yet venison isn’t a fatty meat. The only other thing I could think it might be was an undissolved stock pot that had cooked. Some of it solid and some slimy. Not pleasant. The battered chicken breast was quite dry and not sure what was wrong with chicken burger but the M-in-law said she wouldn’t have it again. Chicken pie and mash was lovely. The chips that came with the meals were good too.

Booked a meal with the hotel and arrived early. Seated immediately and the food was good. Service was very good and well worth a visit.

Staff friendly and willing to help with choice of food or drinks. Downstairs restaurant area bright and clean. Quick, efficient service, attentive and pleasant. Husband had prawn cocktail, classic and tasty. I had one of the specials as my main course, Apricot Chicken, husband had steak pie. Both were well cooked, the steak pie, beautiful steak in gravy, vegetable and chip complimenting. The Apricot Chicken was very good, sauce was amazing with the chicken, juicy and flavoursome. Desserts were amazing. Light and perfect to end the meal. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, relaxed atmosphere with hospitable staff. Dog made welcome. Will be back.

Delicious Sunday roast beef dinner. Beef melted, everything was cooked just right. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious.

Awful food . Staff service was average . Roast dinner was a poor excuse for food , one over cooked roast potato and beef that was so overcooked it was like leather . Would not recommend and certainly won’t return . Did advise the staff the staff but quite uninterested. I asked for no red cabbage and the veg was not sustituted so if I didn’t have my husbands peas the veg was hideous . Hidden in that pot of cheese sauce was a floret of cauliflower the size of a teaspoon

Proper good Boozer. 1 Cask Ale pump. Plenty of lager & cider taps. Around 9 TV sports screens. Liked it.

Booked a table for my son and l. We arrived 50 mins early so thought we would grab a drink first but we were given our table on arrival. Menus were fantastic with a separate menu with today’s specials - also a board showing all the extra items available. I chose the macaroni cheese and my son chose the lasagne - both were delicious 😋 all homemade and one of the best Mac & Cheese l have had in a long time. staff were lovely - very welcoming and friendly and l will definitely be back next time we are in Moffat.

Stayed one night room v.clean with everything needed .star bar at the rear relaxing and 6 TV screens .upstairs bar and restaurant also comfortable and relaxing home made pies are superb and the sticky toffee pudding awesome with great service thanks will definitely be back if in the area !

An excellent find just 2 miles off the A74(M) in Moffat. A warm welcome at the World’s Narrowest Hotel. The food was hot, fresh and homemade. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

The back bar in the Star Hotel is a cracking little pub. Given the lack of space in the famous hotel as a whole (it’s the narrowest hotel in the world) the bar is surprisingly roomy and is decorated in traditional pub style. It clearly sees itself as a bit of a sports bar these days and there are several screens on the walls. The service is good and there’s a good range of beers (including one hand-pulled real ale). This is a really good bar and it’s worth mentioning that the food looks good too.

Superb food. We were staying in Moffat and I did some browsing on where to eat. Most places had pictures of plates with a bit of food arranged in the middle. This place at least looked like proper food. I wasn't wrong. An excellent portion of really good steak and ale pie with ample chips and good vegetables. Such a shame that there is nowhere nearly half as good where I live in the Peak District. Highly recommended and will definitely return if I am passing again. Do book a table in advance if you want to eat in the bar rather than the upstairs restaurant.

We managed to get a table upstairs , 5 pm & already busy. The menu had a good choice & we chose haggis neeps & tatties , gammon steak with pineapple & fried egg, & a child’s portion of Mac n cheese. The gammon steak was absolutely amazing! The service was really good by 2 young ones , most attentive & we were fell fed & back on the road for the last part of the journey !

Great traditional pub grub. The food surpassed any expectations in this very traditional looking pub. Service was great with welcoming friendly staff.

Stopped for lunch and dined in the bar. Traditionally decorated, but looking tired, perhaps taking some of the tat off the walls might help? Staff seemed rushed off their feet dealing with diners and people checking into the hotel and as a result one or two servers weren't at their best, with one lady not keen on placing plates down, but rather dropping them on the table. Food was fine, very standard fare. It was fine, but I regret not going elsewhere.

after squeezing through the doorway entrance smokers and opening the door into the bar we were confronted with a jam packed bar with people standing around drinking . table occupancy were well over the covid rules.we had no option to walk out as we value our lives more .hope the management takes note.

Had an evening meal on our overnight stop in Moffat. Popular hotel, but we managed to get a table. At the time we were under Covid restriction so no alcohol.My wife had a Caesar salad and I had the chilli, both were most enjoyable.Good, polite service. Certainly recommend the Star.

We visited for dinner this evening.For starters we had pate and prawn cocktail- both were very good.Our mains were Steak pie , chips and veg which I would rate as distinctly average.My husband has salmon - he ordered chips but was served new potatoes- this wasn’t really an issue as they were very busy . The girl who served us was lovely, very friendly and chatty- our visit was made much better by her attitude.All in all we would say that the meal was average- staff were working hard in difficult circumstances due to covid-19 restrictions.If you want a quiet romantic mealWe would say this isn’t the place for you . Families though would fit in well
