Went for a Mother's Day lunch after my mum had a nice meal there at somepoint before. Unfortunately this lunch was marred by the excessively long time we had to wait for our food to come out after ordering. We had to wait 45 minutes before anyone even bothered to speak to us about the delay. Apparently the special (the venison) they were advertising, they had no idea how to cook. Once the meal came it was passable at best. Venison was very tough. I wouldn't recommend.
Food was pricey and coffee mugs were tiny. Baking used to be good but this time it was below expectation. Was looking forward to it but not worth it to be honest..
Stayed over to break up a journey up to Glasgow and back south of the border. It's a lovely little hotel, clean and with friendly staff. The twin room was huge and the bed comfortable, with a more than adequate bathroom.
While the hotel was quiet as it was a Sundaym the bar is nice and welcoming with an excellent range of drinks.
The breakfast was good and cooked to order, if I was to say one thing I think the breakfast would benefit from locally sources sausages.
All in all a great place and one I'll return to for similar trips in the future.
When visiting family in Dumfries, we always come here for more than one meal. On a rare occasion where there is an issue, you only have to say and it's sorted with politeness, friendliness and no fuss. That is rare as the food is great. Decent portion size, home cooked, well cooked and fresh. The service is fabulous too, again polite and friendly.
Stayed at Dalbeattie for a couple of days and decided to treat ourselves to a Chinese Takeaway from Sea Horse. The service was very prompt and the food was absolutely excellent and portions huge. (And so well priced as well!) I genuinely do not understand some of the poor reviews. This was the BEST chinese takeaway food we have had in a long time. 😋😋😋😋😋😋
Great place for a good quality meal that doesn't break the bank.
We have been a few times to the mariners and always come away very impressed.
Really friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble.
The quality of the produce used is excellent (I am quite fussy about meat in particular)
I recently had a very impressive breakfast which was fantastic, Enormous!
The chips also deserve a mention, home made chips made to order. Perfection.
If you're in the area and looking for good quality food, give this place a try.
We had the hotel breakfast as we were actually on our way to Cairnryan for the ferry. The breakfast was typical Scottish food served and cooked just fine. The hotel experience was very nice with all staff most helpful. One thing to note is that there is no taxi service on Sunday morning before 8:00 a.m. so if you have an early ferry there is no way to get there without a car. Later in the morning there is a bus service to the port area. The port area is about 15 minutes away by bus.
First visit and last visit.
Such a shame as no other chippy in area.
Worst fish and chips ever.
Fish old and dried up, inedible and was placed in nearby bin.
Stayed here on tues 28th May great expierance
We phoned late in the afternoon to ask if they had
A room available for that evening, thankfully, they did
We were well looked after by the gentleman on reception
who really was excellent, and
Really helpfull our room was spotless and very quiet no outside noise but the real
Highlight of our stay was the breakfast whilst it was a buffet all the produce was of a high quality and piping hot
Nothing was dried out
Full marks to the breakfast team probably the best buffet breakfast we have had
For many a long time
On checking out there was a discrepancy with our bill someone had put drinks on our room number however yet again, the lady on reception dealt with the issue
Without any fuss
In conclusion we really enjoyed our visit and will stay there again
Well done team
We arrived early afternoon, grandkids in tow. My friend talked to the person at the visitor centre and was put off visiting the roundhouse due to our grandkids being with us (6 & 11). This was certainly the impression she got.
We decided to explore the church ruins and the graveyard instead, from which you can see the roof of the elusive roundhouse.
Very interesting graveyard with some very old graves.
