We stopped for a toilet break and we were ready for a cuppa and a cake... The tables were sticky, flies everywhere, toilets were dirty and smelly and the service was very unfriendly. We braved to have a tea and it tasted terrible. The whole pace needs a good clean and some lessons on customer service.

Looks a nice little place from outside. Food was good. Service functional, a welcoming smile would be nice, to make the customer feel valued and welcome. Owners sit outside and belch and shout but apart from that it was an OK kind of place. An interesting experience, welcome to Scotland.

Prawn salad was over & above what I expected .. if I lived locally I’d visit everyday! Highly recommend you make this a stopping off point on your trip to the lighthouse, or if you’re just in the vicinity. We’ll be back to this part of the world & will make a point of calling in for lunch again.

We came here based on the good reviews. Pretty surprised at just how dirty this place is! To be fair the fish was fresh and nicely cooked but difficult to see beyond the unhygienic environment and slightly begrudging service. We were really looking forward to our lunch based on the great reviews and so very disappointed in what we found.

Visited Friday night (open everyday for breakfast and lunch but only Friday and Saturday evening) and had the best meal of our holiday. Quirky decor and absolutely EVERYTHING made from scratch. Beautiful scallops with roe, fresh handcut chips and a salad with loads of fresh fruit which really complimented the dish. Prices are almost too cheap but the owners catch their own fish and seafood and this is obviously why the prices are so low. We were made super welcome and the doggies were allowed inside too which was a huge bonus. Please visit this gem, its outstanding and can't wait to return next year. Its unlicensed so we took our own prosecco and wasn't even charged corkage. Thanks so much Marriners

Compared with many other reviews of this Coffee Shop we must have been unlucky. Although it is many months since visiting, our visit does stick in our memory. We were looking for somewhere for a lunchtime snack and this Coffee Shop appeared to be the only option. The staff were outside and there were no other customers. The inside of the cafe was very basic. One of our party required dairy free items. Coffee with dairy free milk was available, but dairy free food snacks were very limited, and the assessment of what was dairy free was unfortunately not very convincing. Nevertheless we purchased some snacks and sat inside, whilst the staff continued their conversation outside. Overall an experience that is remembered for the wrong reasons.

A very unassuming cafe with a nautical theme. Quite a lot of clutter but even in the off season a nice degree of atmosphere. We have visited twice. First for tea and home made soup which was tasty and filling and then again for a proper lunch. Langoustine and wild boar sausage. Both dishes nicely prepared and presented. See photos. Worth a visit.

We were recommended this cafe for a "seafood special" by friends who live in the area. Was a bit nervous at first, as it does look a bit rough from the outside (there is actually a motorbike inside the cafe!), but Sandra and her children gave us a very warm welcome. We had pre-ordered the seafood special, and special it was: mussels, grilled sea bass, a lobster each, scallops, scampi -- it was all absolutely delicious, but there was so much food we couldn't finish it! Great value though, and can't recommend it enough. It's unlicensed, so BYOB(s), but this means you can get a decent wine at a sensible (non-restaurant markup!) price. They also do a steak night (as with the fish night, you've got to book in advance for that) which we'll definitely try next time we're in the area. We also popped in for a big breakfast fry up, which was nice, as was the coffee. (but the seafood special was simply amazing!!) One thing to watch our for is they only take cash -- there is a post office where you can withdraw cash for free just around the corner though!

Prawns were devine(fried tiger prawns in a delicious light batter) but the chips weren’t cooked through.... needed another couple of minutes in the fryer- left them. We came here for my birthday dinner this evening and were all extremely impressed with the food that we ate. It's recommended that you book dinner in advance, else the coffee shop shuts at 5pm. For a 2-course meal and two 3-course meals the price was £51 which we thought was excellent (this doesn't include alcohol as it's BYO). The lobster bisque starter was delicious and not too heavy and the scallop starter was great. The scallops as a main were beautifully cooked and the hand-cut chips were outstanding, really crispy (one party described them as the best they'd tasted). Another of our party had the fresh crab salad and said it was the best crab they'd tasted and that it was so fresh they could taste the sea. Two of us went on to have (home-made) lemon meringue pie, which was faultless. What a fantastic meal.

What can I say? First impressions as we walked in were that the tables weren’t clean (there were lots of unwiped crumbs and debris on the tablecloths) and the furniture was very shabby. We decided to risk it, on the basis that all those bikers can’t be wrong! The food was OK. My husband ordered omelette and chips, and he said that the omelette was nice. It is a very interesting and quirky place, and I guess it’s worth visiting it just for that! There are speedway programmes hanging from the ceiling, and all sorts of interesting things everywhere (all a bit dusty). One (five star) review says: 'If you are looking for posh, don’t bother’ and I would agree with that statement, except that if I gave five stars it would be for the quirkiness of the establishment, nothing else. It is really very hard to understand how it got all those rave reviews, which give the impression that this place is something that it is not (but if it was a bit cleaner, then it could be).

Was encouraged to go by the rave reviews on here, so popped in with the intention of having lunch. Were we even at the same place?!While we were deliberating whether to actually bother sitting down outside we were approached and asked rather abruptly what we wanted by quite an 'unkempt' tattooed lady. Without actually being seated or being offered a menu we decided to get two soft drinks. We were unimpressed by the dirty, unemptied ash trays on the tables, the very shabby furniture, dead hanging baskets, general scruffiness and lack of cleanliness of the place. We decided if the general appearance of the public area was anything to go by, it was probably not a good idea to have any food. Shame, could be so much better.

Quirky cafe with a personality of its own - vinyl records on wall, drum kit and skeleton to name just a few curios on show. My wife and myself had visited the Mariners in the past but only for breakfast, but looking at some recent Facebook listings from customers showing some fabulous meals I decided to see if they could do my wife's Marion's birthday dinner.I booked with the owner Sandra saying we would like a seafood platter for two and we would like to eat at 8pm on Monday 13/3/17.Having the memory of a chicken we turned up at 7pm and not 8 as arranged, once I realised my mistake I apologised and said we could come back later. But Sandra would not hear of it saying it's a good thing fish doesn't take long to cook!We had a wee glass of our bring your own bottle bubbly and our meal was presented as we were enjoying our drink.Well, we could not believe our eyes when it started coming out of the kitchen.A massive platter of lobster, moules mariniere , scallops, peppered mackerel, a dressed crab, scampi, haddock goujons, Cod in parsley and horseradish sauce, sea bass, langoustines in garlic butter, fresh salad and fruit mix and hand cut chunky chips. The service was fabulous as was the food, I have never tasted fresher seafood in my life, ( this means a lot as I am the son of a fishmonger) The next time we go we will perhaps take a couple of friends with us as the portion could easily have fed four hungry people. Thanks again Sandra for a truly memorable birthday for marion and a superb meal for us both.

Myself and my friend tony went on a motorcycle run from Edinburgh to my static caravan in maryport, as we were only staying for the one day I decided to get a breakfast in to save all the effort of cooking.I had noticed the mariners on a few occasions when going to my caravan, so decided to give it a wee try. The exterior looks like an old bikers cafe with a couple of machines parked outside with loads of seating to relax in the morning sunshine. The interior had lots of musical artefacts all around, with old lp records posters and the like Lots of tables inside too.The menu was comprehensive and I took a mental note for the future that we must eat here more often.I ordered two full all day breakfasts but in reality one would have done the pair of us, it was huge, great quality too, sausage both lorne and link bacon black pudding haggis eggs toast tomato and baked beans with the choice of tea or coffee included in the price. The only downside was as I was on my motorbike the breakfast had to go in my panniers and the beans escaped from the containers and ended up in the plastic carrier bag.Totally delicious breakfast with the only cleaning up was a bean soiled carrier bag and plastic containers.Keep up the good work mariners We will be back

We have just had a beautiful supper at the Mariners. A perfectly cooked rare tuna steak, all sorts of yummy fruits & salads & veg, onion rings to die for. The chef has a very light touch. I was only sorry not to fit in the lemon meringue pie, it looked so appetising.

My wife and I have just experienced the best mull of Galloway experience in the Mariners Friday and Saturday steak night. I chose the 16oz hanger steak which turned out to be the best flavoured steak I have ever had. I started with tiger prawns and what a feast it was, it was a shame to leave so much as there was so much food to eat for a small price of £20 (£5 extra for the 16oz steak)It won't be long before we are back for round two, I don't know how Sandra does it for the price. There was a very varied choice of starters : battered tiger prawns& chilli dip; prawn cocktail; smoked salmon quiche : lentil & smoked venison soup , and game pate. Mains : 8oz fillet steak ; 8/16 oz Hangar steak ;T/bone ; sirloin, ribeye , venison and tuna steak....lots of sauces to accompany .....and gammon too. Desserts : lemon meringue : coffee & walnut cake, sticky ginger pudding , strawberry and blueberry cheesecake ,red velvet cake and ice creams ....so much to eat and so reasonable ......no processed food...just hot fresh and plenty of it !What an asset to the villagers and tourists in drum moreWe will return

In the midst of kitchen chaos at our house I put in an "emergency" call to Sandra at the Mariners for fish and handcut chunky chips so my 80 year old mum wouldn't have to wait until at least midnight to eat dinner ! :) "No bother" says Sandra followed by "When would you like them?" They duly arrived (delivered) and were absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful fresh fish in a homemade crispy batter and chips just as mum likes them :) Thank you so much. P.s. my kitchen is still in chaos!!!

the coffee was not good and the lobster we bought was not fresh at all - it appeared to have been frozen at some stage. The dressed crab was excellent however.

Fantastic food and welcome. Food simple and well prepared using local ingredients. Slightly quirky interior but nice to sit outside in the sun too.

We had a long drive to England to look forward to, so arranged after a cracking meal the night before to call in for breakfast. It was a beauty the full works, a plate full,l and I mean full, of freshly cooked food, at a good price, kept us going for the rest of the day. If you are passing this little gem is worth a visit.

This cafe is a little gem. The seafood is fabulous. I've been a few times now and I've never been let down by the food I don't think a top restaurant could beat the seafood platter( you've got to order this in advance), and the afternoon tea was great with a selection of sandwiches which included crab and prawn, a variety of scones and cakes as well as home made chocolates. The extensive menu looks to have something for everyone, and even offers the option of fresh or frozen chips, which is great for someone like me who hates frozen chips. I found the prices very reasonable. We have a couple of small dogs, who were made very welcome at an outside table and provided with water and biscuits. Will definitely be back

If you are looking for posh, don't bother, but if you are looking for great food, beautifully presented with nice friendly people this is the place to eat in Drummore.Sea food is brilliant at great prices and the baking is done in their own kitchen. There are outside tables which catch the sun most of the day and there is free wifi. After you have eaten your fill, and made friends with the locals, across the road, you will find a great little park, that will allow the children to let off lots of steam!! If you need breakfast , lunch, tea or dinner, or just a sandwich, there is plenty on offer.Bikers, fishermen, walkers and holiday makers, all are welcome.Hopefully it will not be long before we are back.

The Mariners Coffee Shop in Drummore is just a wee treasure! It sits almost halfway down (or up) Mill Street and seems to be the hub of the village! And once you have eaten there you can see why. It's not your traditional coffee shop at all! I have to say I've been in a few times now, started off with breakfast, what a feast - fresh local eggs and local produce and great value! Another time I went in for lunch and ordered a tiger prawn salad with chips and couldn't believe my eyes when out came a work of art on a plate! And it was delicious! And to crown it all we discovered that the owner Sandra will happily stay open if you would like to book in for an evening meal - and OMG you will thank yourself for making this choice!! Hubby and a friend had the seafood platter - see the picture - it speaks for itself and that was only half of what was included! Homemade cakes and sweeties are available too and much better than shop bought! Sandra also does cream teas at the weekends and although I haven't had one yet I can guess they'll be just as great as everything else. With friendly hosts and great service added into the mix this wee gem is far from average and I guarantee that unless you're a complete misery and moan at everything in life then you will return to eat here anytime you are in the area! It would be rude not to!

Visited with a group of friends for dinner- pre-booked to be sure open in evening. Delighted to bring our own wines and beers, with no corkage!Menu looks small, but lots of seasonal specials and Sandra will cook you just what you want. The seafood platter is staggeringly good, and the best value you will find anywhere. And so fresh - literally landed, to kitchen, then your plates. Lobster, crab, scallops, sea bass......all excellent. Cannot recommend Mariners cafe enough

Mariners seems to be widely promoted as something of a refined bistro and perhaps this coloured our judgement regarding food quality. Let me say here and now that the lady who served us was friendly and accommodating and the place itself is full of character, especially if you are a speedway fan. We sat outside at tables that had a bit of a forlorn feel. We had only called in for a bite of late lunch as the café at the Lighthouse was closed and Drummore was the first available port of call. The food was quite mundane, flash fried frozen fries and a slightly soggy Scotch pie smothered in beans. Perhaps if we'd called in the evening and ordered from the appetising sounding menu, we'd have been more impressed? ..... but you can only judge what is put in front of you!

Visited the Frothy this morning for the first & very last time as the cafe is closing. Whilst the cafe was comfortable the coffee wasn’t the best ever tasted and we were stunned at the price! Compared to other coffee houses close by it was surprising; could this be a reason they are not finding it profitable?

This cafe served the worst scone I have ever had / didn't have. (and that's saying something as I'm in my 70s and have had a few in my time. You could build a house with a few of them. Inedible expensive rubbish. It came in a paper bag, no plate and a wooden disposable knife which struggled to cut it. The coffee was served in a paper cup. But was drinkable. Cost over £13 for two coffees and two inedible scones. I am disgusted and will definitely won't be back

A lovely warm welcome from the Lady serving us and so far the best breakfast I have ever had in Scotland (and I've had a few). Cafe is spotlessly clean and prices are fair, well worth a visit in my honest opinion.

Went for breakfast & the place was pretty quiet. Disappointed with portion size. Ordered 2 x breakfast & 2 x cup of teas which came to £25.75. Gave feedback to member of staff & they were not interested. Won’t be back.
