Great place, with friendly staff that serves up excellent food. Special mention to the bar manager, Kenny, always up for a good bit of banter.

The food was ok i will say nothing special the roast dinner felt like it was missing alot the potatoes had no fluff and no carrots the food wasnt too bad priced it was about what i would expect but the room was far to cold to fully relax they had some toys for the kids to play with while waiting for food which was a good idea

We were there on Saturday for dinner to celebrate our son's 18th. Cannot fault anything. Excellent customer service, a good menu with plenty to choose from and the food was beautiful and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back when we're in the area.

This is quite a small restaurant and pub, so if you're eating it is advisable to book ahead. The food is very good indeed - we had beef stroganoff, sea bass, and chicken wrapped in pancake, followed by cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and Eton mess. All delicious. Everything was served up reasonably quickly and the waitress was very friendly and polite. The only minor downside was no decaf coffee. They do ask that if possible you pay in cash due to the high rates the banks change for credit cards, though they do take card payments. Highly recommended.

Stayed in Newton Stewart for one night, nothing else seemed open so went to the Cree Inn. We loved our visit - the service was super friendly, the menu had plenty of choice and the food was really nice! Would recommend if you’re staying in Newton Stewart.

This place disappointed me I had beef dinner meat was plenty but it was chewy to much gristle, fried roast potatoes, veg ok but not alot mash was mash frozen Yorkshire pudding for the price I expected more ,not sure rest of food would be like but first and last time I will eat there , I Made a issue then was ask if I wanted any think else I said no as didn't want to wait,just ate up and paid ,but the manager didn't even speak to me just sent wee lass to take payment, that tells me I'm not the first to complain ,nicer placer to eat in newton

Typical Scottish bar, good food, and service was excellent.

Very disappointing. Food was poor. Vegetables over cooked and limp. Steak pie was tasty but again not anything special. Room was very cold and we we're asked to sit at the door as the card club were coming in and they would be wanting our table.

We came to this pub as a last minute decision and luckily was dog friendly for our pup to come. There was a lot of young people as had to sit in the bar where pool table was so it was getting busy through the night and louder However, we did not expect how amazing the food would be! My dad can be very difficult to please as he hates cold/warm food. The food that came out was boiling hot everytime and he was very happy about that. The staff were attentive and friendly too. Didn’t expect such great food to come out in a quiet small pub but we were really surprised and pleased. Would definitely come back again if we were in the area again! Garlic mushroom starter was to die for and the steak and ale pie!

The food was surprisingly good and very hot as it was fresh from the stove, only the vegetables were a bit dry.

No room at the inn…as they say. On 2 nights in a row we popped in for dinner. On the first night there were 2 tables full and the rest were empty. We asked for a table to be told none available until 8.30pm as the tables were fully booked- this was at 8.10pm so when were the guests arriving for the empty tables considering the other tables were only on their starters? Today we went back and told yes and shown a table so we took our jackets off and settled down only to be told sorry we don’t have any tables available. Poor service from staff who don’t appear to know what they are doing. Will not be trying again.

Good food, great service. Our only gripe is with steamed vegetables which were barely cooked and the parsnips hard as rock. Other than that, the food is fantastic.

Our whole group really enjoyed dinner here. The food was superb and excellent service too. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Popped in while we were in the town for some dinner, really lovely food , everyone was so so friendly and service was just amazing. Really decently priced for food that tasted really fresh. They do accept card, however we really wish we brought cash as I know card fees are awful for smaller businesses at the moment and no way to leave a tip on card.

We ate at the Cree Inn last night upon the recommendation of a local and what delicious food. The Cree Inn is not plush, but it Is clean and comfortable with very friendly staff and good service. We had the steak pie, beef stroganoff and the child's pasta and chips. The food was well cooked, tasty and plentiful. £40.25 inclusive of drinks represents good value. We can highly recommend it for good food, value and service.

Fantastic food, well priced, knowledge staff and dog friendly! Found this restaurant on our way to Cairnryan and didn't expect much from the outside but very welcoming inside.

Possibly the cheapest cocktails in BRITAIN and absolutely delicious with it. The toffee apple was unbelievable as was the Xmas martini..

You do not need to eat anywhere else when you visit Newton Stewart and surrounding area. From the very warm, friendly and sincere welcome right until you, sadly, have to depart, leaving an extremely well deserved (large) tip. Our waiter, Stuart, and his delightful colleagues, quite simply, could not have been more attentive yet never once intruded on your evening. Their responses throughout our meal were jovial, professional, ultra efficient and obliging. The entire team, along with the very good value, excellently prepared menu, really made it an evening to savour and remember with fondness. Well done to one and all. You truly deserve to succeed and prosper. Don't change a thing, especially Stuart, you were the jewel in the crown. Thank you all.

Food was great and bar staff very friendly

We had a really excellent meal last night at the Cree Inn, to celebrate my son's 15th birthday. The staff were attentive and really friendly, the dining area was cosy (if a little cool) and comfortable, and the food was excellent. This is not 'pub grub', it was excellent quality, beautifully cooked and delicious. There were 6 of us eating, we all had starters and mains, and 3 had desserts. With drinks included the bill was around £170, which these days offers really fair value, and for the quality it was excellent. Compliments to the chef, and all of the staff.

Friendly, attentive staff. Roast Beef dinner was delicious as was homemade cheesecake! Thoroughly recommend for a relaxing meal out with a good selection of drinks and food menu to choose from.Reasonable prices.

I could have done without the foul-mouthed lout stood at the bar using profanities while my kids and I came in for some food. Staff never said a word despite me moaning about him. I guess they don't mind, or he fills their tills often enough that they allow him to behave that way. Very off-putting, it's a shame.

It's a pub, so expect pub food, but it seemed very well prepared and the service was excellent. The cheesecake in particular was very well presented and very tasty.

We ate in the bar due to having dogs with us. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating or helpful and the food was excellent. Could do with enabling someone else to take payments though, I had to wait quite a while for a gaggle of teen-agers who made it to the bar just before me... We thought the bill was good value too, though I guess that's in part because we're used to Edinburgh prices All round, excellent though.

What a hidden gem this restaurant is. Went for dinner, the service was warm & welcoming, great prices on drinks, appetizers were amazing & plentiful, main courses were delicious. Had steak pie with homemade crust, gravy fabulous, chips were huge and oh so good, also had fish & chips, haddock so fresh it flaked apart. Ice cream to finish as we were so full. Food is superbly cooked, prices are very reasonable and will be going back every chance we get. 10**** for excellence.

Didnt try any food but the locals and staff are really nice

We visited this place many years ago & I've no idea why we've never returned! However this time we called in and had a really lovely meal. We were served by a very friendly, & efficient, young man and everything was great. The car park is a bit of a tight fit but I'm not sure if they can expand it. I'm sure we'll be back when we are next on holiday in the area.

We popped in here for a drink whilst staying at near by conifer lodges for a family break. We were very lucky to have a scorching day and sit in the beer garden. We were served some refreshing drinks from a lovely gentleman at the bar. Very good customer service with pleasant staff. Would definitely come back.

We booked a table in the bar for Easter Sunday whilst visiting the area. Our dog was made to feel very welcome and the staff were very attentive. We had two courses each from the Easter set menu, priced very reasonably and although my starter was excellent (brie wedges) my main course (sea bass) was a bit dry - the dog enjoyed it though! 😂 My husband said his meal was OK as well. The cocktail menu is brilliant and so cheap. Many delicious and freshly made cocktails, some priced under £5 and some just a bit more. I wish I'd found this place earlier. I had 4 cocktails, 2 glass of wine, my husband had 3 pints and both of us had 2 courses and our total bill was just over £72 - would definitely go back!

Started going here when I was wee with my mum & dad, love it and have lots of comforting memories of the place. Good food at good prices in a family and dog friendly setting :)

A great place for family food with a great menu suitable for all. Fish is really tasty, chips are massive like mum makes. Service was excellent and prices fair. Leave a tipbecause it is 100% worth it and then some.

Popped in for dinner when passing by. We had nice garlic mushrooms and soup for Starters then a very nice Double Beefburgers and Chips and a Veggie Fajita and Chips 👍😋 Great value aswell for this day and age!

Had some great food here tonight. The barman who served up was really attentive and so friendly. We also spoke to the chef who looked absolutely immaculate. Prices are very fair and the surroundings were fresh, spacious and clean.

Visited the Cree Inn one year ago at same time of year with my partner. We had an amazing experience. Waiter and chef were so warm and welcoming and the food was delicious, especially the homemade cheesecake. We ended up staying after dinner and having more drinks in the bar because it was so nice. However we returned this year and were so disappointed. Was unsure of serving times so called the restaurant during the day and was advised stop serving at 8.30pm. We arrived at 8pm (having worked in the catering industry prev I know this isn't an ideal time however we were on holiday and time got away - it shouldn't have effected service). We were served by a young lad who had no customer service skills and looked like he would rather be anywhere else. We were the only two people in the full restaurant. He then advised us about all the menu options that were not available, which left little to choose from. I advised I would probably just have a starter and desert, while my partner finally decided on a starter and one of the burgers with all the extras. Waiter then came back and said no burgers available. At that point fed up with the negative atmosphere and limited food choice, we decided to just order two starters and then head somewhere else. We got two drinks and two desserts costing only £22 whereas had the service been the same as before and food items actually on the food menu that were advertised we would have easily spent upwards of a £100. When we come back next year we will not return.

Took a chance and booked it as we were staying locally. Food was excellent especially the fish and chips and steak. Great value for money. Staff very friendly and looked after us. Well worth a visit to support this local business.

Had an evening meal while staying in the local area. Food good in general, chicken tia cakes could of done to have been bigger as barely bite size but were tasty. Prawn cocktail good. Fish and chips were delicious and a big sized piece of fish with delicious batter. The creamy chicken pasta was very disappointing as it was pasta with chicken & veg mixed through it, no creamy sauce just boiled pasta. Staff friendly.

Walked in said hello to the guy and woman behind the bar, both dashed through the back totally ignoring us (family of 4 in an empty bar not hard to miss) eventually the guy came back we asked if a table for 4 was available. Looked at us like we had horns, I had just walked past the restaurant window and seen 2 tables in and no reserved signs. We ended up going round to the cree house hotel which was much more pleasant.

Yeah it's OK, basic pub grub, bar area is a little grubby, staff are nice and beer is good. Nice outdoor dining area if you're here in summer.

Cant recommend this place enough, found this on our first night of a 5 night stay in Newton Stewart, ended up going back every night for dinner, the food is excellent the staff were great, even the owner took the time to sit in the beer garden with us for a chat, will be back

Stopped in to the bar where the staff made us and our dog feel very welcome. The food was excellent and cooked fresh to order, the portions were a very good size and absolutely delicious. Would recommend this bar to anyone visiting Newton Stewart.

Worst choice of beers I have seen for 20 years in the bar. Whole place reeked of the 1950s. No smiles from anyone. If this is the top ranked pub in the town, oh dear !

Visited here yesterday with family and after seeing and reading other reviews we were left overall disappointed. Our waitress seemed really pleasant and helpful until we asked for parts of the meal that were missing along with some condiments. The service then turned to things being banged or dropped onto the table. Couldn't try the cocktails as they have a new person working behind the bar and they can't make cocktails yet. At the very end after deserts we were not asked if we would like anything else but just simply asked if we would like the bill. We decided as a group that we wouldn't rush back here. Oh , missed out that we did ask if we could get a bowl for the dog to get a drink and this never arrived.

Myself and 7 other family members came here for dinner tonight as we are on holiday from Glasgow and staying locally. The food was absolutely delicious. We all went for a variety of starters, mains and deserts and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed each plateful. Portions were excellent. Special mention for the chips which are “out of this world” never ate a chip like it. Our waitress was extremely polite and nothing was too much trouble for her. Very pleasant and friendly. Never had a takeaway from here and was pleasantly surprised. Lovely hot food, ready on time and very tasty. We had Katsu chicken, fish and chips, chicken pasta and breast of chicken. Staff cheery and helpful.

Great food. Went after our 5 mile walk around Glentrool. Lovely roast! Great service. Dogs allowed in the bar area. Lovely man gave the dogs water and a biscuit.

We visited The Cree Inn after doing a lot of walking in the morning. We sat outside with our 4 leg companion and had a lovely meal. The food is delicious and the girl who was serving as well as bartender and chef were all very friendly and professional. Definitely recommend.

Very good food at reasonable prices but lacking in any sort of ambiance. We were staying in Wigtown and unfortunately all the places to eat were closed so we drove into Newton Stewart where we struggled to find anywhere that was either open or not...

If you are visiting Newton Stewart look no further than the Cree Inn for a quality evening meal. The menu is extensive, the quality of cuisine beyond reproach and the portion sizes suitable for even the largest appetite. Add to that, the service was friendly...
