The best restaurants in Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh and Lothian

Microwaved dry scrambled eggs, couldn’t eat them. Blasting eggs in a microwave is not a culinary skill you should be paying for! Lady very nice and offered me an alternative fried egg which looked like a poached egg, coffee was nice & sourdough good quality but I won’t be back for microwaved eggs!

We ate here after a show at the Playhouse on a recommendation from a family member that lives in Edinburgh. The restaurant is spacious and light and the service is superb. Our waiter Gabriella was so patient with us (5 chatty females who hadn't seen one and other for a while) The menu had lots to choose from and on the whole the food was good, although the calamari wasn't great and although we ordered the tortilla medium it was a wee bit dry. The pork cheeks though were outstanding as was the paella. All of the portions were a really good size and great value for money, as was the wine. This restaurant could really cash in on its locality to the theatre but it absolutely doesn't. It also doesn't include the service charge as standard which is another absolute bonus in my eyes and the service was outstanding! This is an absolute gem of a restaurant in the current climate of excessive overcharging by most other restaurants. A definite worthwhile visit ✨️

We went with my husband expecting to be a relaxing experience as we have a young family and we rarely go out. Although we had booked in advance, they gave us the worst possible table. There was a draft from the fire exit behind us and I had to have my jacket on while I was there. A member of staff was kind enough to bring a heater but it didn't help much. Staff were walking almost next to the table touching me as they were passing by. We arrived expecting to have something from the Set Menu only to find out that it's only available on specific days during the week (that's not mentioned on their website and they didn't mention it when we called them to book a table). The worst part though is that the food itself took almost 3hrs for the 5-course menu, hence there was approx. 30mins gap or more between each course which took away from the experience itself. Three hours would have been ok for a 7-course meal but it's too long for the 5-course meal. The food was ok, we've been to other fine restaurants in Edinburgh and this was very overrated for a meal that cost over £100 per person. We then saw in the reviews we could have the same meal as lunch for £50pp. The best of all was asparagus, the worst the fish and the dessert. I felt there was no respect for the clients. If they didn't have enough staff in the kitchen, they could have told us and we would have booked on a different date. The waitresses were very polite.

Mi esposa y yo disfrutamos de mariscos frescos y pasta en este auténtico restaurante italiano. Excelente servicio y ambiente cómodo, la calidad de la comida era de un alto nivel y un gran menú, disfrutamos de una comida de 3 platos y estábamos muy satisfechos. Gracias!

Incredible meal at Rollo. The food was v tasty, fresh, and imaginative. There was lots of atmosphere. The service led by Veronica was impeccable!

Matto have nailed the pizza restaurant, I went into the morningside restaurant last night after cycling from Aviemore to Edinburgh to refuel. Far too many people jump on the Neapolitan pizza train offering the same bland menu, margarita, pepperoni etc, Matto certainly doesn’t fall into this category with their interesting & unique pizzas, having fun with the ingredients, it’s worked a real treat. Chilled atmosphere and quick, friendly staff, what more can you ask for?

Reservamos este restaurante después de haber visitado antes con un amigo y quería ver si era tan bueno como la primera visita. Nos dieron una cálida bienvenida y nos llevaron a nuestra mesa por el camarero, siento no haber pillado su nombre. Pedido de bebidas tomado rápidamente para permitirnos seleccionar del menú a nuestro antojo. El pan y el aceite salieron con las bebidas que siempre pienso que es un toque encantador. Cuando salió la red la presentación era realmente bueno y generoso tamaños de porciones. Mi marido tenía lasaña, que dijo que era mejor que cualquiera que tenía en Italia hace 2 años! Los ñoquis en pesto estaban deliciosos y la foccacia de ajo era increíble, tan ligero. Disfrutamos mucho de nuestra visita, bromas del camarero era brillante, la comida era deliciosa y el ambiente era fantástico. El restaurante es bastante pequeño, pero se siente muy acogedor. Si de vuelta en Leith visitando de nuevo sin duda volvería.

Increíble lugar bastante acogedor! Pasé a tomar un café para esconderme de la lluvia y terminé tomando un poco de brunch / almuerzo. El especial de haventee con halloumi y avo es definitivamente una idea que me llevaré a casa conmigo! Increíble café y una encantadora parada de sensación hogareña!

Acabo de tener un fantástico desayuno aquí. Mucha elección, todo sabe increíble. Gran servicio. Los propietarios son muy acogedores y hay un ambiente agradable: locales y habituales que entran, asientos acogedores. ¡Buenos precios también!

First visit here a few weeks ago and it’s as lovely inside as the restaurant is from the outside. The staff were so friendly, the food was delicious and they do a real good Aperol spritz! I particularly loved how every table was spaced out so whilst the place was full and buzzing, you weren’t sat on top of each other. I’d definitely recommend and will definitely be back ✨

Walked in for quick lunch. Food is packed with flavor!! I’ll definitely be coming back!
