La Sal in Edinburgh, City of

Stopped by for dinner three days ago. The staff were friendly and engaging, and our waiter recommended the gambas, so we ordered that along with a slice of Basque burnt cheesecake. The cheesecake was excellent and addictive, though the berries were a bit too sugary—maybe a chocolate alternative would work better. The gambas was really good, with fresh-tasting prawns and just the right amount of spice. Cosy ambience and great service overall. A solid spot for dinner!

Came to Edinburgh for the weekend, and while looking for somewhere to stop and eat, came across La Sal (partner is Spanish so knew he would want to try) Pleasantly surprised that the staff themselves were actually Spanish, which adds to the charm! Food was absolutely spot on (approved by partner 😂) Cannot fault the service either, friendly and attentative throughout the meal. Pork cheeks was amazing and a must try! Will definitely be calling in here again, next time we are up this way .

The food here is absolutely brilliant. I booked here just for convenience before the theatre and wasn't sure what to expect, but I will be recommending it to anyone and everyone going forward. The atmosphere could be cosier with some warmer lighting, but I cannot fault the food at all - just absolutely delicious.

The food here was absolutely delicious! Every dish we had (prawns, chorizo, whitebait, padron peppers and ox cheek) were all cooked perfectly and we would have happily had each one as a main. This was also the first time I have had churros that I would have again! The service was a little slow and one of our dishes was brought out later than the others, but the staff were very friendly welcoming.

Had the most amazing tapas dinner here. Sebastian and Tiago were absolutely incredible, took care of us, were constantly on top of things. Food was delicious, so compliments to the chef, atmosfere was really nice. So absolutely go and check it out

Ordered some tapas, it was below average, my partner is convinced it was partially microwaved. The lady who served us didn't seem very interested, I would ask her a question whether they had a particular drink and she would just say 'no' and walk away not even interested whether i maybe had an alternative i wanted to ask about or order 😂 It felt like hard work. Not going back 🤣

Good place to eat some tapas or Spanish food. Beer, mahou, San Miguel and Estrella. The ham croquettes were exquisite, the sausages were really Iberian, the bravas were not frozen, but delicious. The waiter was super attentive and very friendly, Fast service. Adjusted price compared to other places in Scotland. Highly recommended!👍🏼

The portions are ridiculous, the food is not good and there is little Spanish. We ordered the bravas which were very spicy and were potatoes with tomato, the eggplant cake was worth nothing, the croquettes were passable but for what they were worth they were not worth it, we ordered a cheese board and there were literally 6 pieces of cheese cut in half How many grapes and that's it, the bread with tomato didn't have enough tomato for the 4 halves of bread they put in, with that I say it all. The restaurant is run by local people from Edinburgh and it shows because there is nothing Spanish about it, the intention. Very expensive and not worth it at all. The only good thing was the two waiters who served us. Save your eyesight.

Because I didn't make a reservation in advance, I couldn't eat any of the Scottish food properly. Instead, I ate food from various countries, but I ended up eating this Spanish restaurant because it was close to my accommodation. I can see why it has good reviews on Google. I really enjoyed it. They give an additional tax of 12.5% ​​when coming from the UK. I felt sad for the first time There was a review saying that the dessert was Hwaryongjeongjeong. I ordered a pudding, an Americano, and a bonbon. Even the pudding is perfect👍

The food here is great. A really good mix of vegeterian options. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. It has a nice vibe too. The service could be better though. Once seated, two different waiters came to us three times over the space of 10 minutes to ask if we were ready to order. Even though it was quite obvious we were still deciding what we wanted, and we had to keep telling them we weren't ready. Later on in the evening, the same woman kept coming to our table as we were finishing our dishes to take stuff from our table. There were two occasions where she came and we said we hadn't finished. Yet both times she took a dish anyway which we were still eating. This was really surprising especially after saying we weren't done and she just grabbed it quickly and left both times before we could say anything. So overall, our experience was effected by just too much of a sense of rush from the staff. They just need to chill a bit more and let customers take their time Would go back but hope this doesn't happen again next time

We dined here as a family of 6 for a birthday last night. The service was warm and friendly andthe food was exceptional. We ordered alot of different tapas dishes and the seafood paella to share and it was all fantastic. The fried cod and the pork cheeks were my two favourites. All 6 of us were very impressed and would definitely return on future visits to Edinburgh

Such lovely people, was a total surprise that they came with a lighted candle on a double dessert plate and sang happy birthday to my 96 yo mother. They also tried to accommodate the problem I have with bright/flashing light. Good place, and love the food

Lovely pre concert meal. Food was so tasty. Slightly over ordered 6 tapas for two of us as the portions were much bigger than expected from other tapas establishments. 4/5 would have been more than enough. Reasonable pricing too. Highly recommend

Everything is professional. The food is better than any other restaurant in Edinburgh. This is a place that does Spanish food right. The owner is very skilled in running the restaurant, the employees are friendly, and the service is fast. It's a perfect place with a reasonable price.

The food was wonderful and the waiter was heavenly, he treated us wonderfully, the paella was very good and the cheek delicious, you can tell that they have Spanish cooks who love them

We booked a table for six last minute and the owner kindly made space for us. When we arrived they even extended our table so we had more space, which was great. We ordered a large Carne Piella, Tapas: Calamares, braised pork cheeks, patatas bravas and two octopus. A bottle of Tempranillo and two glasses of Rioja Well, the food was absolutely delicious and couldn't fault it in any way. The service was also impeccable and probably the best I've had at any restaurant in as long as I can remember. Will definitely be recommending this amazing place to all and any of my friends who are thinking of visiting Edinburgh. Thank you very much to all the staff at La Sal 👍🏻

After a few days in the United Kingdom, we greatly enjoyed the Spanish food, potato omelette included.

Tired of eating fast food, we found this restaurant next to the hotel and it was a great experience. We were even able to get rid of eating a potato omelette.

It is an absolutely recommended restaurant. The treatment is excellent and they will also assist you in Spanish if you prefer. Everything we ordered was delicious.

Food is on point. Feels like Santiago di compostellas little restaurant. Portions are pretty large for tapas. Everything was cooked just right. Food is clearly the thing they care about. A gem.

Lovely food, the octopus was particularly delicious. Service was mostly great albeit did have to ask for the bill twice despite it not being particularly busy.

Absolutely loved this place. We showed up as a family of 5, with no reservations. They kindly were able to accommodate us. The service was wonderful and the food was delicious, with a lot of variety for everyone in the family. Our kids - 6 and 10 - said that this was “the best food they had ever had”. Hoping to come back here next time we are in Edinburgh.

Delicious and had a relaxed atmosphere

Fantastic place to get authentic Spanish tapas. The restaurant is well set out with plenty of space between the tables. Although we had booked for a specific time, the server gave us our table earlier than booked. The menu wasn't the largest tapas menu we have had (compared to other larger tapas restaurants we had visited in Edinburgh), but there was still plenty to choose from. We had bread with olive oil and a vinegaret along with grated tomatoes as a starter. Our mains were meatballs, black pudding, patatas bravas, croquettes, chorizo, and potatoes, and to follow, we had churros with chocolate. All the food that was served was really tasty and all were finished off, clean plates all round. The churros were the best I've had. They were delicious. The server was polite, prompt, and well presented. He recommended a very nice drink for us to try, which was delicious. It was called Pacharáw Navarro by Zoco. It has a nice delicate aniseed taste to it, served with a dash of lemonade and ice. The toilets, downstairs, were clean and tidy.

Having lived in Spain for most of my life. I can honestly say the food here is as close as you can get, from what I have tried so far, to Spanish tapas. Their choice in black pudding from Burgos was fab to see! I believe it's the best black pudding in the world! Chistorras, Albóndigas & Patatas Alioli and Bravas were also very good. Overall the food and service was good. Was also friendly and it felt like a Spanish place. Looking forward to coming back here again! Muchas gracias a todos! La comida está buenísima! The most delicious (and affordable?!) paella in this city! The wait staff are so lovely and they have such a big wine selection. This is the kind of food you end up dreaming about - trust me, I've been there.

An excellent Spanish restaurant specialising in tasty and authentic paella and tapas at extremely good value. We visited on two successive nights so good was our first meal here. Appears to be family run with very pleasant staff. Good wine pairings available at very reasonable prices. Portions large so 5 tapas for two people is quite sufficient.

Fantastic food - best tapas and paella I have ever had. The aubergine dish is especially good. Dishes reasonably priced with good portions. Gluten free clearly indicated on menu and lots of choice.

I had always walked past here but had never gone in. We went on Friday night and it was a nice level of busy. There was 4 of us and we ordered around 12 tapas as in a lot of other places we’d get three each however our server recommended we should get 8-10 for four people. I think it would be helpful to have this on the menu as a guide as a lot of other places do this. We still ordered the 12 as we wanted to try lots of the dishes. There was a good mix of meat, fish and vegetable dishes. My favourites were the ham croquettes, the spanish tortilla and the patatas aioli. However we also had the chicken thigh, calamari, black pudding, patatas bravas, padron peppers amongst a few other dishes. The food was really good and quite reasonable as tapas can be expensive. I have given it a four as I have had tapas in other places that I have enjoyed more but it was a lovely meal out.

Small restaurant and good food. It could be more familiar and a little more refined.

We had reasonable good tapas, however the pulpo/octopus was very tough and it definitely should not have been. There was too many potatoes served with the tapas, most of it superfluous and not eaten. The salad decorating the tapas was wilted, and it didn't look at all inviting. The place felt rather soulless and dull.

My wife & I had a fantastic meal at La Sal on Hogmanay, (we were.lucky to get a table early evening, restaurant was clearly very popular and busy for the rest of the evening) The service was first class, recommendations from the staff very helpful and most importantly the food was first class. Great Tapas, opposite the playhouse,so can be very busy. Staff are friendly and attentive, the food is excellent, would definitely recommend the grilled goats cheese salad. We ordered too much this is not a problem we were offered take away. Very reasonable prices, would definitely go back.

The food was delicious, and the sizes of the tapas are very generous. We ordered 3 tapas for two, and ended up taking almost half the food home. 1 tapa per person would be the ideal portion size if you're not extremely hungry.

Authentic and delicious food I have had a mix of tapas and shared the fresh paella - worth the advertised wait!), fresh and bright setting, with warm and attentive service from a family that clearly love what they do. I have been a dozen and no dish has disappointed - I have had a lot of fun working through the menu! (The fried cheese with tomato marmalade is a must).

This is our favourite Spanish restaurant in Edinburgh. Decent portions, home food tastes and super friendly staff. The Spanish wine selection and sangria was amazing too!

A fab restaurant near the Playhouse but also near the city centre. Food was excellent, big portions so you won’t need as many plates as other tapas restaurants (which is a shame because all the courses we had were excellent!).

The staff was friendly and atmosphere simple but quite nice. The paella was made with frozen fish then plated and frozen again then cooked from frozen directly on the paella plate therefore very pool quality.

Family run. To hear Spanish spoken amongst customer and staff is just so inviting and authentic. The menu is enticing and the food, delectable. Service is on point, very attentive staff. Shall definitely return here on a future visit to Edinburgh! Can imagine they have a good variety of quality wine to offer too! Excellent choice for tapas and atmosphere.

We dined here before an evening show at the fringe. We had heard good things. The service and staff were really good. Although we did notice that some staff were super friendly and others were not as mush. The menu is quite small but still good choices. We went for a few smaller dishes. We thought the potatoes were nice but the garlic sauce on top was overpowering and, actually, too garlicky. The other dishes were not bad but nothing was very tasty. The value was reasonable. And the staff were on spot on.
