Very very beautiful place, love the little room at the back. Very chill. I don't drink and there's little choice for me but it's understandable that it is mostly a wine bar.

The food is outstanding, every dish was absolutely delicious. Wines were beautifully paired and very knowledgeable staff guide you through the menu.

Been twice for lunch, both times outstanding. Lovely warm service, enticing menu, clever cooking, delicious food, reasonable prices. It’s a gem.

This is one of those rare occasions where you can stand behind a five star review fully and wholeheartedly. Everything had a deliberate consideration towards quality and comfort, across the board. The staff were lovely, the ambience perfect, the wine selection (most importantly) was excellent and interesting, and whilst a minor point the bread served was perhaps the best I've ever had. I arrived early in the day and there was ample space, but I would book to avoid disappointment if you want to enjoy Spry later in the day. Thanks to the team for a genuinely lovely experience.

Very good food, generally good [but consistent] wines, but prices seem a bit too high for the portions. The staff are all lovely, and as most dishes seem to be made in the tiny bar kitchen, the service is certainly good. The dishes we tried were all lovely and paired well with the drinks we ordered, but the size is less than half I'd expect to receive in a decent wine bar...

Very much enjoyed the tasting menu recently. Catered amazingly for dietary requirements (2x pescatarian and 1x vegetarian). Every course was delicious, and made even more special by the seasonality of the dishes and knowledge of the serving staff. Excellent range of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Would thoroughly recommend, and will be visiting again.

Better than what one expects from a wine bar! Great wine choices. Amazing service. Chill ambiance with space to walk around. The highlight is the food menu! Perfect place. Cannot recommend it enough!

A short Walk from John Lewis and St James shopping mall down Leith walk. Spry offers a minimalist setting with white walls, black-and-white artwork, and shelves of bottles on display. Seating options include modern Windsor-style wooden chairs and a mix of low ankle-height tables, small round tables, and higher bar seating. The lighting is subdued, with spotlights highlighting walls rather than tables, complemented by four globe pendant lights. The open-plan bar doubles as a kitchen, allowing diners to watch the two chefs at work. Food: The starters stood out with exceptional flavors and presentation: • Chicory Salad: Delicious, with an intense walnut flavor, though the raspberry was less prominent. • Beetroot Tartare with Smoked Eel: A well-balanced dish. • Cured Sea Trout: Outstanding, with a beautifully light aerated tartare sauce atop pickled gherkins. • Cured Halibut: While the dish was small, the Arbroath smokie cream paired with crispy potato strands was excellent. The mains were a mixed bag: • North Sea Crab with Jerusalem Artichoke and Leeks: Beautifully balanced and flavorful. • Braised Beef with Bread Pudding: The meat was decent, but the pudding was dry, and the overall dish lacked vibrancy. • Celeriac Lasagna with Cumin: The cumin was overpowering, detracting from the dish. Drinks: The cocktails were well-crafted but very small for the price: • Olive Oil Martini: Tasty but minuscule. • Negroni Bianca and Americano: Both enjoyable but portion sizes left something to be desired. Service: Long waits between courses were frustrating, especially for mains. The restaurant’s approach of serving all starters at once could be reconsidered for a more relaxed and staggered experience. Value for Money: While the food was undeniably delicious, portion sizes (for both food and cocktails) were underwhelming for the high price point. Seating was also uncomfortable, detracting from the overall experience. Final Thoughts: Spry delivers some exquisite dishes and creative cocktails, but the small portions, slow service, and uncomfortable seating make it poor value for money. Improvements in portion sizes, pacing of service, and comfort would elevate the experience.

I truly cannot rave about this place enough. It does not seem like a wine bar would have food that creates a core memory, but WOW, Josh truly makes magic. Each dish was well thought out and representative of Scotland, and Josh’s creativity. His food gives Michelin starred restaurants a run for their money. Ewan the bartender was kind and friendly, and gave some solid recommendations for activities and other bars/restaurants in the city. 10/10 recommend.

Absolutely wonderful evening and delicious wine!!

This is place is super chill and cool. Me and my wife sat at the bar and had a couple of lovely glasses of wine whilst watching the chef cook up small plates. Nice vibe, dimly lit, relaxing music and all round good times. Next time will definitely be trying the food. The staff were super helpful and friendly.

We popped in for a drink and ended up having the tasting menu with wines. There are no pictures as we were too busy enjoying ourselves, but the photographs in other reviews do absolute justice! I was looking for a wine experience when booked a table at Spry. However, in my opinion it felt lacky. Food was nice, wines were good, however it felt as if the staff didn’t know or didn’t care much about wines. They can tell you about the different options in the wine list but that’s about it. For me, as a Spaniard who knows a little bit about wine was hoping to have more of a bodega experience. Meaning, to be able to discuss the different wines with the bar staff. This was not the case, my friend and I were left neglected at the back of the bar. Also at 8pm were told the kitchen would be closing at 8:30. No problem, I told the waitress I would definitely get something else. However, good 10-15 minutes after that I was still waiting to order. Needless to say the place was not busy at all.

I loved Spry concept, a minimalist wine bar with a great list of wines and lovely little plates of delightful food. I was impressed with how these young and able people managed to cook everything using only a 2 ring hob (!) Highly recommend 👌

Lovely place, great feel to it, and amazing staff! However have to be honest and rate it down due to two factors: 1. For what it is, the place is really overpriced, loved the experience still, but not sure it justifies the cost tbh 2. While the food tasted great, all my party member including myself mentioned they had a really bad stomach ache after, some lasted to the next day Though I wish I could rate higher as the satff was some of the nicest and friendliest I habe ever dealt with, all the love to them ❤️

Wow, what a place. Staff who don't claim to be a Sommelier but are, food to die for and a reputation that is well deserved. Add an ability to buy from the wine list at good prices. Oh and back to the food. Just amazing! Don't read the reviews, just go!

I went here with my boyfriend for my birthday surprise and it was amazing. We had the tasting menu with the matching wines and every single course was delicious. Fun and efficient service and a relaxing vibey atmosphere. Will definitely be returning!

Not a place where you would feel welcome with a kid. We called up and asked if it I was okay to bring a kid along, the stuff was so welcoming and reassuring on the phone. And when we turned up, the experience exceeded our expectations. So glad to have a family friendly wine bar like this in the area.

Wine selection was pretty good, small snacks were perfection and ambiance is unbeatable. Loved our little nook by the window. Tried the sourdough, orange wine, and monkfish, everything was delicious.

Spry reminded me very much of pintxos bars in Spain. The canapé style food included some interesting combinations but was let down by the available wine selection. They also need an extractor fan over the hotplates when frying.

Food and wine was delicious. Disappointed with the service though. We were told to move from the table we booked because it had been promised to someone else. We were still waiting for food we'd ordered at that point, so we just asked for the bill and left. Won't be rushing back any time soon.

My friend recommended this we cute place and I loved it! Loads of variety of unique wines that you can't see in another places. Food was very nice, small plates to share were delicious and presentation very good. Staff very friendly and helpful with the choice of the wine. Our waitress was very attentive all the time. The only bad thing I could say and it wasn't a problem it was the food service was a wee bit slow but the place was very busy then we could understand.

Me and my gals went for a bottle of orange wine, shared creamy gnocchi, roasted cabbage with hummus(?), and this cheese and cracker dish- wigmore cheese with some kind of jam was really tasty. The vibe was so nice, staff was very friendly, it was a perfect night out with the girls at Spry! Would go there again.

Liberal + student-y clientele. Lovely ambience. I really enjoyed the minimalistic decor. The food was decent. Really interesting wine. The service was really disappointing. Staff would forget basics (e.g., clearing up all your plates but forgetting to clear away your cutlery or clear the table) and were inattentive. The food took too long to arrive. I think that the staff need greater training and some senior oversight.

First visited at the end of 2019 and have been coming back ever since. Great staff who are terribly attentive. What a beautiful selection of wines, and the price range is great. It allows the more adventurous to try some particularly unusual ones that catch your attention. Great to sit at the bar with a bottle, grab some food to pick away at and enjoy the atmosphere. One of our favorite places in edinburgh by far.! Do make sure and book, tables are sought after. This is must visit..!!

This is one of the very best tasting menus in Edinburgh - it's such great value and the experience is amazing. We were lucky enough to have braised beef with the most delicious mushrooms I've had in my life! All the courses were really delicate with fantastic pairings. It was such a special experience - the staff were so lovely, and we were served by the chef. I'm a really big fan of tasting menus but they've become so expensive in Edinburgh - and sometimes a little fussy. I think this one is amazing because the food is so simple; delicious; and the chef is a firm believer in sourcing hyper local produce. It's also super down to earth - with a focus on nice food and presentation, but none of the fussiness of Michelin star restaurants. The bar staff (sommeliers?) are also so passionate about the wine and speak really engagingly about the producers/grapes/flavours. A total hidden gem for fine dining in Edinburgh. And super laid back.

This is a new one on us but a really good choice. Food was interesting full of flavour and very tasty. Non alcoholic beer was super good and if I am honest the service was second to none. A very relaxed, Sunday afternoon was had by myself and our friends. Lovely 😍

Elegant wine bar offering a fair selection of wines as well as great food. It is expensive but great value for money for a fine-dining experience. I loved the modern aesthetic and cool atmosphere. Staff were very attentive and nice! Would highly recommend coming here for a drink and light food, or on a date.

We had an absolutely wonderful time here. Every dish was phenomenal and so well thought out. The food was paced very well so we never felt too full but we were satisfied. We didn’t feel rushed at all. The atmosphere was so relaxed. Staff were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The selection of wine was so interesting and broad, with options for every price point and the staff recommended pairings for the dishes we had. We were absolutely blown away and enjoyed every moment.

It’s been a while since I wrote a review and I feel a bit bad that I feel almost compelled to write this review given our experience. We were unpleasantly surprised with our experience this evening given at the tables versus the bar. The high tables for 4 is extremely cramped and the regular tables are more like a couch and 2 chair with side tables. Definitely not what I expected. Portion sizes are extremely tiny and we left the place hungry. Our last two dishes, salami and cheese, took ages to arrive - at this point we just cancelled our order and asked for the cheque. Understand they were short staffed in the kitchen but combined with the fact that the food was underwhelming, it left a pretty poor impression. Grossly overpriced and mediocre food at best. The wait staff was friendly though :)

Fantastic selection of natural wines and small dishes. Knowledgeable staff that is fun to talk to. As we came quite early not all dishes were available, which didn't have any impact on how much we enjoyed ourselves here. If time would have allowed we would have come back to try the whole menu.

Cool vibe and interesting wines. I tried the Czech orange wine which had a super complex flavour. Good music playing and friendly, helpful staff. Definitely will come back to try the food next!

Had a fabulous dinner tonight, the owner is passionate, « aux petite soins » everything is done with care. Decoration perfect, even if I do not drink wine I had a lovely time. It is a refined place.

Nicely decorated, friendly staff, good wine selection and well prepared small dishes - but the smallest of small dishes I've ever encountered, and as a result bad value for money. We left hungry.

Sat in lounge for an hour and got a glass of wine but still no dentist. Tooth is beginning to hurt. Hope to hear soon. Ouchy! Should up at 2:30, tooth still hurty. Lot of wine about the place, not very profesh. Staff seemed a little wasted — actually they could just be chillax like my buddy Alec. He needs teeth!

Simply amazing!! Delicious food paired with great wines (highly recommend the lobster dish & the Pinot gris from Alsace, a bit cloudy and sour). The service was also great, they were very knowledgeable on their wines and the atmosphere is so nice. Highly recommend!

Second time visiting Spry, it's becoming a go to in Edinburgh. Wine list is outstanding, and the food list is great. One of the few wine bars to cater for vegetarians too - always a decent amount of offerings. Beautiful shop, lovely staff and all round banging service. Can't wait to return.

Cost wine bar, good for catching up with small group of friends

This is a beautiful, intimate wine bar with a minimalist vibe, a great atmosphere and a fantastically large range of wines, served either by the glass or bottle. They also serve some tasty small plates, which are well worth trying. Staff are friendly and uniformly trendy in a very consistent way. It’s like they have a casting department rather than a HR officer, ha! The only issue with Spry (in my opinion) is this - if you book (as is sensible because it’s popular) you are required to leave credit card details with a £40 fine if you don’t turn up. £40 is a little steep, when it’s not a restaurant, in my opinion but that’s not the issue I have. My issue is that after booking, and leaving card details, you are taken to two bar stools upon which you are left for the remainder of the evening. They do not allow you to graduate to a table, it appears, unless you are lucky enough to be placed on one of the few tables on arrival. It just seems to me that having the strict booking rules with a £40 fee for non-attendance is a bit much when all you get is two wooden, quite uncomfortable, bar stools. I think people expect a little more than that, maybe even a chair or stool with a back (!), when the reservation system is like that. Anyway, great place, otherwise!

Had a beautiful evening meal, we did the tasting with the accompanying wines. The staff were knowledgeable and just really nice. The food was interesting as well as delicious and the wines were a good balance of challenging and classic. We liked it so much we went to their coffee shop for breakfast the next morning, it was also delicious. If we lived in Edinburgh we'd be there every weekend. A lovely spot.

Outstanding service, great atmosphere and superb wine selection makes this little place one of our best experiences in Edinburgh. They serve delicious wines ranging from Slovenian orange wines to sparkling wines from England. And on top of that top notch food, so there is no need to hesitate.

Fantastic service, however let down by the overpriced food and drink. We had the set menu (5 very small portions and, aside from a course with 4 langoustine tails, all vegetarian) with paired wines (all less than 100ml) which came to 170 for 2 plus tip. Prices on the website need updating as it was £20 more expensive than stated.

Don't usually write reviews but had to share about this amazing place. Wines were sometimes unusual but great. Food was excellent. Small plates well put together, the cicely ice cream was very special. Atmosphere was beautifully done, all round a top class dining out experience
