Two guys "serving". First one has a five minute conversation with a friend at the till. The second one makes himself a coffee and wanders off down the counter drinking it. Needless to say I walked next door to Pret. Cafe Nero...more like Cafe Zero. Unprofessional, indifferent and lazy.
Village Hotel, 140 Crewe Rd S, Edinburgh EH4 2NY, United Kingdom, Scotland
Food here is horrid. Ordered the fish and chips along with the king of protein (shrimp noodle bowl). There isn't a hint of salt or flavor in the food. At least the fries were okay. Don't get the loaded fries, just a sad slop. They also charge for foundation drinks refill. Wild. Don't eat here unless you're really desperate.

We come here fairly regularly, think it's pretty good, certainly better than a few of these reviews say. Coffee is better and far cheaper than Starbucks opposite, food is generous, baklava is one of the best I've had outside the middle east and equal to any I've had in Edinburgh. Yes the service isn't always the friendliest, but we're there for the food/convenience/coffee & baklava all of which are excellent.
If you want to spend minimum 20 quid at the bar on card and get ripped off another 8 quid on your card for a 40 quid dance then this is your place. Ripoff.
I decided to have dinner at the hotel because I arrived tired and it was a pleasant surprise! I was very well attended to and the food was excellent, at a very good price! I had a starter of breaded mushrooms that were perfectly cooked and a main course of a steak cooked perfectly with peas and fries also perfectly cooked. There are good options of beer, draft beer and wine.
Excellent service and cuisine!
This is the 3rd year we have come to The Witchery for our valentines meal, and no doubt would come more often if we didn't live so far away. The atmosphere and setting are incredible in the secret garden, so romantic. We enjoyed a delicious bottle of wine with our meal from a huge selection, our choice supported by the really helpful waiter that served us all evening. We enjoyed delicious starter's that were beautifully presented and our main courses of steak and red deer that were of the highest quality and literally melted in the mouth. Freshly prepared desert of Tiramisu and the cheese and biscuits followed to finish off what was an amazing meal. The staff couldn't be more helpful, smart or polite, even offering to arrange a taxi if needed. We have already booked for next year and would definitely recommend this venue for style and quality of food and service.
Unfortunately they take cash only, and don’t tell you this when ordering. It’s not even that they just don’t accept contactless payment - they won’t even accept chip & pin payment. Very inconvenient and customers are given no notice of this even when they call to make an order for collection.
Food was as expected, service was slow but got there. I had to clear a table before sitting, but the reason for the poor review was the constant security alarm going off for the supermarket door.
Great place to dine for those with plenty of time and hearing difficulties.
