We were booked for Christmas meal in a local restaurant so popped into the Playfair for a bottle of sparkling wine as price is so reasonable. Very good service. Busy do such a good festive atmosphere. Would recommend.

A very central venue with prices to match. Interior a bit shabby in places with it not having a fit-out for a good number of years. Disappointingly what I wanted for breakfast was unavailable so chose the next-best thing. Value and taste-wise it was rather meh. Perhaps I was just visiting on an off day as I've visited before and been satisfied. When compared to surrounding eateries it's decent value-for-money but don't expect it to be as cheap as many other Wetherspoons establishments and during the evening this place gets VERY busy.

We'd just been up on Arthur's Seat, well, halfway up was the truth of the matter. I don't do hills and the climb nearly killed me. So, a coffee and a sandwich was required with some urgency. We walked over to The Playfair, ordered coffee, a wrap and rested up while we waited. The food soon arrived, delivered by a friendly member of staff. The wrap was tasty enough and the coffee was up to Wetherspoon's usual standards. We nibbled our slightly stodgy chips, ate the chicken wraps and finished our brews. It's a 'Spoons, it was OK, nothing spectacular but just filled a gap.

Fish and chips had to send back chips were cold along with the mushy peas fish wasn't to bad,but in fairness we were given a new meal much better,also changed the wife's katsina curry as they delivered the wrong one

Had a late lunch & a catch-up with my friend on Sunday. After doing some shopping. It's a busy place with lots of staff on. Food was amazing as usual fresh & hot well presented. Oh & g&ts to wash the meal down. Price wise, very reasonable. Would recommend to everyone.

Only good thing was the pleasant girl who served me and our drinks had to clean the table ourselves before sitting at it not alone noticed others doing the same i know it was a Saturday afternoon but with its location should realise more staff needed,disappointing.

Went for a breakfast before seeing family off as they went back home up north. I have been here plenty of times and always have great service and tasty food. Myself mum and 2 sisters had a great breakfast...non rushed and very relaxed. I never knew that I could get such awesome Eggs Benedict from here! Family are vegetarians and we're very happy with their meals made even easier with the app to place orders. Happy friendly staff and great atmosphere. Thank you very much.

We used to come here fairly regularly for fish Friday as good, reasonable and enjoyable! Never my favourite place but decided after about 3 yrs to visit again last week on the Wednesday for a fish tea! I had the small fish (husband normal fish) and both were 10/10! The small fish like a half fish, thick and delicious, so much so, went back tonight for a repeat performance! Wish we hadn't bothered, my small fish was an insult, not a half fish, not a fish to be recognised at all, just a shape on the plate of miniscule proportion! Said to the girl at the time 'is this the small fish, there's nothing there'? She muffled a response so just accepted! There was nothing there and can only describe it as a scrap of fish left over and dished out! I said to her when collecting the plates, 'that small fish was an insult, too small amd nothing there '! She said it was weighed out but we said 'well that wasn't'! NOT going back!

We visited this pub twice on a recent trip to Edinburgh because it was very close to our hotel. Also next door to the theatre which means it’s gets very busy early evening & is hard to find a seat. Seemed to be short of staff so we had to clean our own table.

Shocking service ! Given incorrect drink, and the duty manager was so unprofessional, wouldn’t change it . When our vodkas come to the table, I seen they put that green lime cordial into my glass. I strongly dislike it the taste and gives me stomach pains. When I asked for his name so I can raise a complaint, he took my drink off me and placed it behind the bar. My partner and I were then told to “get out we were not welcome .” My partner is a General Manager in a central restaurant, so tried to reason with this Team member. I’ve served in the Royal Air Force for years and this Customer Service and way he treats a customer, i couldn’t believe it . Our very first drinks well. We ended up at another Wetherspoons afterwards, the Caley Picture house and received excellent service from that restaurant. Shows you, one place can really let a company down . I’d also like a refund for my incorrect drinks we never got to enjoy.

It's a wetherspoons pub, but the cleanest one I've been in! I had haddock and chips and the fish was as good as in any chip shop I've tasted - well done. There were two homeless people having breakfast on second visit, well done for now discriminating against them. I would like to make a suggestion, maybe have a board up for those of us more fortunate to donate at least a coffee to them. I have to share the below photo of the measly Michelin I got on my breakfast though. I did make us lol!

Fine perfectly fine but the bar was so cold our food got cold quickly and we couldn’t stay too long due to lack of any heating. It was much warmer in the toilets than the bar

Visiting Edinburgh for the day. I ordered on the app, had to go up to the bar 30 minutes later as my food had not arrived. It was packed so queued for ages. They said they would look into it. Got back to my table it had already been taken, no others available. In the end I left with NO food and NO refund.

came here for drinks and lunch and had 2 different times where 2 dofferent members of staff came over and id’d us. one time is fair enough but another was just getting ridiculous and an inconvenience. the lady was non consenting filming us and didn’t even inform us that she was which i find is an invasion of my privacy and what if i didn’t want filmed? situation not handed well, not happy.

Recent met friends here whilst in the City. The Bar staff are watching you stood at the bar whilst pouring drinks but ignore you to serve people who have just walked up to the bar. The place is filthy - we had one drink and left. Staff not good and the place needs a good deep clean!

Disgusting on every level. Food disgusting, staff’s attitude disgusting, no customer service - feet stuck to the floor & the toilets were like the scene from trainspotting. Will never set foot in one ever again.

We ordered 4 meals this was repeated back to us and we paid. Two meals arrived and we waited for the others to arrive after 10 mins we chased up and were told we only ordered two. We then went back to the original staff member who said they would sort it and get our meals but instead did nothing after a further 10 mins. We spoke to a manager and then had to again wait for a period of time for them to get back to us to find they still had not placed an ordered but just wanted further payment before they placed it. We just decided to leave. This is the worst customer service we have ever experienced.

Yes, this is Weatherspoons so the expectation is reasonably average. We came in for breakfast and free hot drink refills, the food was as expected - average but filling. However, the order was incorrect when it arrived, the coffee machine area was giving off a strange smell and the gents toilets were unclean. Overall if you paid a little more and went to an independent you would be more satisfied.

Avoid this restaurant at ALL costs. Unfriendly staff and Very rude!! My daughter and I were off to the playhouse for her birthday treat and wanted some lunch before the show started. We managed to find a table in the busy restaurant and ordered the food (pizza and small scampi and 2 diet cokes) on the QR code app. I wasn't sure if the order had gone through as it hadn't appeared on my banking app so I decided to leave my daughter (who's 23) at the table and go to the bar to check. Whilst I was in the queue I saw a member of staff, a tall thin man come over to the table my daughter was at with 2 diet cokes. I headed back to the table and as I got there I heard him asking my daughter for ID. I couldn't believe he was asking her. They were only diet cokes and we were having food (which hadn't arrived) he then started to say we were being rude to him and we weren't allowed to be served anymore. We were in shock!! I couldn't understand what we had done wrong. I had to go and find him and asked if I could have a refund then. He told me I could have the food when it was ready but I wasn't allowed anything else. I told him I didn't want anything else!! We felt some uncomfortable there that we just had drank our diet cokes and left. I couldn't even be bothered to ask for a refund. We have never been treated like that anywhere, ever!! It was my daughters birthday treat to the threatre and I told her not to let it spoil her day or her weekend. Shambles of a place.

This place is kind of s sad dump. It provides no service to speak of and doesn't train its employee to even take an order. We arrived on a Thursday evening- it wasn't very busy. No table service- you have to use the QR code (very poor interface with the menu, so we gave up on that) or order at the bar. So I went to order at the bar - couple pizzas, a beer, an Aperol Spritz and a lemonade. The young man taking my order couldn't find the veggie pizza on his computer. ("Um, so is that a margherita pizza?") He couldn't find the beer. ("Um, is that one of the ones on these taps?"). And he insisted they didn't have an Aperol spritz, even though it is listed along with other spritzes on the menu. I pointed out that it's on the menu and the Aperol was right there behind the bar, so clearly they do offer it. Now, all this time, a woman who appeared to be experienced and possibly a manager was watching this young man flailing. After taking my order (which took a ridiculous amount of time), he wandered around behind the counter trying to figure out how to make an Aperol spritz - by the way, possibly the easiest drink to make - it's Aperol, Prosecco and sparkling water, usually with an orange slice. I watched as he measured Aperol into the glass, added water and ice, and placed it on the counter for me to take. My husband saw that and asked, "where's the Prosecco?" The young man explained that it was Aperol and tap water. I asked him to please find someone who knows how to make the drink. And I said, "by the way, it's sparkling water not tap water". At this point, I had been at the bar, trying to order and pick up our drinks, for nearly 15 minutes. Although I was frustrated, I felt sorry for the young man and was trying to be as nice as possible while also trying to get a very simple order. I was also very puzzled about why the obviously more experienced people working behind the bar seemed to be deliberately ignoring his distress. He wandered away again and the woman who appeared to be a manager finally called me over to a different register - not to apologize for the ridiculous waste of my time, but to tell me she was canceling my order because I had suggested to the young man that he find someone who knew how to make the drink. She decided that I was the one who had misused the employee, although he had tried to pass off a drink that wasn't what I had ordered. She claimed the young man was in training, but there was zero actual training taking place. I pointed out that I had been polite, never raised my voice, etc. while, meanwhile, she had failed to do anything to help him - to train him. Pathetic.

The worst breakfast I've ever had, dry over cooked eggs, missing the hash browns, burnt toast and an off mushroom and everything was cold... if it wasn't for the coffee which comes out a machine it would have been no stars Yes it might be cheap but that shouldn't mean no standards, diabolical

Was here in May and commented on how filthy the bathrooms were. Repeat visit this week and a HUGE difference. My husband also said the gents loos were clean and well maintained. Good service and friendly staff. Convenient for a pre/post movie drink.

A pretty standard Wetherspoons. Visited for a late lunch and found the staff friendly and was served quite quick too. The restaurant/bar area was clean, but what let it down was the area to the loos, don't think they have ever seen a hoover ! The food was okay for the price, however we are slowly going off many of our favourite meals in Wetherspoons - honestly think they must have changed supplier for their meats, probably to save money ( but I would rather pay a bit extra )

Went here for lunch today, we sat outside as we had our dog with us (we have eaten at other Wetherspoons with our dog before). We ordered our food at the bar and the waiter served us our food at the table before we were told that there are no dogs allowed outside - company policy. We were confused as we have previously been to other Wetherspoons with the dog and she was not only allowed to stay but was given a fuss and a bowl of water from them! We asked if we could tie her up outside the premises and continue our meal but we were not allowed to do that either. The waiter cleared our food off the table and we had to leave. We were offered a refund but in future it would be great if there was any signage regarding having dogs outside, this would've saved us 20 mins of time and saved the food going to waste.

Whose bright idea was it to put prices up for the Fringe and Festival? As a senior citizen who uses The Playfair about once a week for lunch before going to the Vue cinema, it is a complete rip off. We locals on limited budgets do NOT like being taken advantage of by having to pay an extra £2.00 for a small fish and chips and a fresh orange. You should be ashamed of yourselves

Late brunch with sister after a funeral of a dear friend. Popped in for something to eat & a glassof of white vino. Meal was amazing fresh & hot well presented. I had the boneless chicken basket. Reasonably priced as well. So worth a visit if passing by.

Ran in to shelter from the rain with my kids and didnt realise id not be allowed one cider. Was made to feel quite unwelcome. Bottles werent that cold and i could tell they were really hesitant about serving subsequent drinks despite ordering food. Nevermind.

It's just like every other Wetherspoons, in a good way. Cheap, quick service, you know what you're going to get, good range of beers etc... The only drawback is because it's so popular it can be difficult getting a table.

After my recent experience with an overbearing manager at The Playfair - Wetherspoons I will not be returning. On 12/05/21 I chose The Playfair to have breakfast whilst finishing off some work on my laptop. As Wetherspoons have implemented a new Covid system, whereby you must check-in via a QR code. I made the point to tell my waiter that my phone is a bit outdated and I wouldn't be able to use a QR code, however I asked if I could check my details in in writing. My waiter agreed and wrote my details down. Great. Only problem, the menu had the same issue as it used a QR code.... I waited at my table for a while to explain my problem to the waiter and order my food, yet no one came. I got tired of waiting and went to the bar to order my food. As I approached the bar I spoke to my original waiter and asked if I could order from my table, whilst in mid-conversation a loud voice booms at me from my side - "You have to check in! Have you checked in?" Slightly caught off guard I turned to the female manager that spooked me and I explained my problem with the QR code and that I had checked in with the waiter, and that I would like to order from my table. "You don't have a mask we're not going to serve you" was what I was followed up with. In my hunger and impatience for my food it slipped my mind to put on a mask and I apologised for this and instinctively lifted my jumper over my mouth and nose. At the same time, I did make sure to keep a 2 meter distance from everyone (3 staff members and 1 other table), as we have been programmed to do over these past events. The overbearing manager insisted they weren't going to serve me as my face covering doesn't count as a face covering. Although, the Wetherspoons policy politely asks that a 'face covering' be worn and I'd like to draw attention to the Scottish government's website:'What a face covering is'"A face covering can be a covering of any type, except a face shield, that covers the mouth and nose."I explained this and that I would be at my table in the corner to order my food. Again, I was bluntly and really quite rudely denied and told to leave, leaving me hurt and unwanted. Not only that it gave me the impression that this manager wished to assert authority and control in a situation that did not require it. This type of behaviour is deeply concerning. During this pandemic, if anything it has shone a light on the sensible, kind people that understand we're together in this, but has also shown the darker side of people, the side of a person who feels this is an opportunity to dominate and abuse their positions either out of complete ignorance (this can be changed) or more worryingly out of stupidity. I feel most people can relate to this and have experienced similar instances, although not necessarily just at The Playfair.... More authority is being imposed and I don't believe we need this kind of authority in our lives, especially when we're just trying to enjoy our breakfast.

Stopped off at the Omni centre while out shopping. Went into the Playfair for some lunch . Very efficient waiter took our contact details and showed us to a table with Social distancing in place . We ordered the pizza and burger meal deal which included a soft drink , both enjoyed and total bill only came to £13 , great value and relaxing surroundings
