Avoid at all costs, complete rip off! Food quality awful! Fish and chips £16.95, chips were like the saver oven chips you can buy from asda.

Dined in today and got some lovely fish and chips! Yaman served us and he was absolutely brilliant and super friendly to us. Thank you!

It is a fine canteen within the Edinburgh zoo. Order online and relatively quick delivery on the table.

Waited 10 minutes to be seated and the place was empty. Saw the reviews online and the chips look good but when I ordered the food the Chips came and they are not home-made chips like a proper chippy tartar sauce is nice curry sauce was okay It’s a bit watering chips quite well done my daughter wouldn’t eat them. Wouldn’t come back again.

They really need to look at the QR code ordering system it’s poor

Avoid at all costs!! Overpriced, terrible slow service, tasteless food presented poorly!! We waited almost an hour for our food to arrive after ordering at our table via qr code. Two friends joined us after ordering so I added their order to ours and it arrived ten mins before our original order. I had chicken burger, looked like it had been reheated several times, bun was ice cold and whole fish was tasteless. Friend had fish and chips which looked like a fish finger in the middle of the huge empty plate it arrived on. Not one member of staff came to check everything was ok or clear the table. Don’t ruin your trip to what is a fantastic zoo by eating here!!

Me and my family came here on Sunday and we waited over 45 minutes for our food and we only got our food then because we asked where is our food. Since Sunday my son has been vomiting and the hospital said they think he has food poisoning so that must have happened from their kids chicken burger which didn’t look good! The prices in there are absolutely shocking! You are already spending £110 to get there as a family and then a £50-£60 food bill just for a quick lunch… don’t go there !

The service was good food tasty HOWEVER for £14 odd is not worth it for half a fish and a handful if chips sorry but either make the price more reasonable or serve a proper full fish you get more at a actual chopshop

Went in with large group and staff kindly put two tables together and ordered separately as couples. Good atmosphere and family friendly, no problem accommodating our group of 12. Bit pricey expected for captive audience inside zoo. Nees to pay up front and order from app only. As food started to arrive to table portions looked good and everything fresh. When ours arrived pizza and gluten free fish and chips, the pizza only filled 2/3 of plate diameter and had 5 slices of pepperoni. Others at our table who ordered separately had pizza's that filled the plate, and with pizza the larger diameter are getting 50% more pizza. I took pizza up and asked for another pizza as this one has not been stretched out enough, not enough topping. She said that you can get another but will probably come out the same way. Confused, I asked her to clarify why that would happen if it was done correctly, as 2 other people had pizza's that were normal size and the person looked away while I was talking and walked away. As with family i didn't want to pursue it further and went back to my family. Looking at other pizza's coming out from the pass, they were all over the place in size and toppings. You are forced to pay before food is there on app and felt extremely uncomfortable trying to sort this with the reaction I got. For the price of the food, it's not worth it if portioning is all over place and staff can't remedy it with at least an explanation. It would help if they didn't pre-stretch dough which then shrinks, specified size in menu and were consistent with toppings and sizes.

I recently visited the Edinburgh zoo and the Gannet restaurant. I have coeliac disease and need to eat a strict gluten free diet. The menu quoted “GF” but on further investigation to my horror they stated GF meant “gluten reduced on request”. As a coeliac reduced gluten is totally useless and using the term GF in this instance is misleading and dangerous. You may be able to use the term no ‘gluten produces use in this dish.’ I am of course a member of ‘Coeliac UK’ and will be informing them of this situation.

The hot chocolate and mocha were very tasty but the cullen skink was not creamy and the potatoes were almost raw. The sauces for the fries should also be offered in a small version as we didn't even need half of it. Mayonnaise would also have been nice

An advertisement on the wall alleges that ' we work with Scottish producers to source the highest quality fish ', if Scottish fish suppliers tasted these products they would sue, worst fish I've ever had, awful, overpriced and cold, very disappointed and definitely won't return, I recommend you bring a picnic to the zoo to avoid disappointment

Family friendly with lots of GF options!

Lovely, just a bit overpriced, especially for children. You order at the table, and they bring it to you, Was very quiet.

Considering how long you queue, you would expect your food to be hot when it arrives. After starting at a very limited menu trying to decide what to have, you order the food via an app. When it eventually arrived, the chips were cold. Not cool or luke warm..... cold. The fish wasn't much better. I think the safest option on the whole menu is the soup but after paying over the odds for sub standard food, I think next time, a picnic is the way forward. Such a shame because you know everyone out the front are working hard. In sure the kitchen are too, just really below par. Won't stop us coming to the zoo though.

Staff seemed rude and almost like they didn’t want to be there, did not feel welcomed by the entrance girl as she just seemed so miserable. Hot chocolate was nice but overall the fish and chips was a disappointment as the battery didn’t have any crunch to it and £16 for such a small portion is a joke! I’m only on holiday but won’t be returning to this establishment!

The fish and chips weren't that great at all, was almost like frozen fish with a soggy batter. I do not recommend their fish and chips.

Couple of items unavailable so went with the chicken burger which was dry with a soggy bun. Extremely overpriced for a lunch menu, £14.50 for chips and burger is not ok and kids soup at £7.50 is wild, even for Edinburgh.

You do need a smart phone to order food , but the food was delicious and service was fast and friendly.

Reasonable choice for adults & children. Food could've been hotter & was quite dry obviously just been warmed up! Quite expensive for what it was.

Not good for gluten free. They offer 'gluten reduced' which doesn't help if you have an allergy, intolerance or coeliac. Menu is very unclear and conflicts with what the waitresses say. Very long wait for food.

Wasn't a pleasant experience. Ordered food and half the food came. Asked 3 times for the rest of the food. An hour and hour later it arrived. Would not return here.

The online ordering is stupid and more pointless than the most pointless thing ever. The fish was pretty good like it slapped but the pizza... what the warp? That pizza was literally cardboard. Minging!! And the prices were way too high like those were higher than a skyscraper and the food wasn't worth the price at all (especially that cardboard pizza) The overall vibe was good but it would have been better with free water because we were all dehydrated. Overall not great to be honest I hope you scrap thr online ordering and add sauce into the pizza.

Really nice to experience the gannet fish bar. My kids had a lovely time and the customer service here was very impressive.

Clean and tidy on first impression. Good menu choices which are ordered via QR code. Prices reasonable. Quality and size of portions were very good. There were three of us dining and all had different things. All plates were well presented and they arrived in a timely manner. Toilets were clean and tidy too.

Sit down and take away (pre-order, which is useful). The service was good, the food good and the price was reasonable to reasonably expensive eg a burger and chips circa £16.00

Unfortunately this was not a great experience, our order was messed up 3 times, service was extremely slow, we were in for lunch for about 2.5 hours, only one drink came, half our order was missing, then dessert they didn't have what we ordered, was a bit of a sham tbh. Not worth it when you pay alot of money.

Here you can see some plates, with food left on them. Rather than posting a plate before it gets eaten, I feel that showing what it ends up like truly reflects the food. In this instance, it was mediocre at best. First, the prices: this place is costly for what is really a lunchtime meal while at the zoo. A children's portion chicken goujons, chips and beans cost £8.50 as did most kids meals with adult meals being £14-£17 each. The family meal deal basically adds in some drinks which are mixer draught and therefore not particularly costly to have provided, but a saving for the customer at the end regardless. The aforementioned kids meal looked like it was put in the fryer first and left till all other food had been made, resulting in overcooked batter & chips. The vegan haggis was lovely though and credit is given here to the company it is purchased from whilst the fish is mixed. Ultimately, it wasn't bad food but nothing that would have me coming back the next time I'm at Edinburgh zoo - maybe try a panini at the café next time.

Great food, albeit expensive, however the experience was ruined by slow, really disinterested service. They use technology to speed up the ordering process but food sits on the hot plate waiting to be taken to tables for ages. No shortage of staff just a lack of communication it seems.

Waited 45 mins for a chip bun, when it arrived the sachets of butter had turned into oil. Sorry not impressed. we were not warned of a delay in food and it didn't look over busy. We had a family with toddlers next to us who'd waited a similar time children were hungry and fed up. This is not acceptable for a family place

The meal was good and the ambience excellent but service wasn't great.

Had a loverly fish and chip lunch just a shame that they had to spoil it and put the tartar sauce in the box with the fish and chips that I don't like it you need to invest in some packet sauces like you'd get at morrisons for dinners as we're eating in but outside and also the children had sausage chips and beans but in the photo the beans are in a pot and they waisted half of it as they don't like them but I'm just advising the issues but other than that it was good

Food very nice and good quality. Cullen Skink was lovely. Unfortunately the toilets were very unclean. We came back later for a drink and scone. We ordered on the app a scone and a callipo. No scones so was offered a different cake. No callipos so was given a cornetto. Website could have been updated a bit more regularly. However Lovely service and friendly quick attentive staff.

Very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. Very fresh and delicious. The service was good. A small mistake was made by the cooks with our order but it was rectified quickly and the waitress was really apologetic about the issue.

We went there when they just opened so it was quiet and they haven't opened the kitchen yet. Drinks were goid, staff was helpful.

Visited Edinburgh Zoo and decided to have a couple of coffees before our long day. Ordered the 2 coffees and waited close to half hour for them to arrive and only after we asked if they had received our order through QR Code ordering. One coffee arrived with more coffee on saucer than in cup! Didnt expect 5star service but to push a button on a coffee machine and deliver our order in a decent time isnt much to ask. Will bring a flask next time!

The service is good and the restaurant has always been quiet when we’re there. You’re able to order your food through the app and the food comes out really fast. It’s quite expensive for what it is but is tasty food.

Really impressed. Came here as the other restaurant was full, glad we did as the food was lush. We had fish and chips and the fish was really tasty. It tasted really fresh and the batter was nice and crispy. The chips were nice too. Coffee was fine. The café was really clean and the service was quick. Highly recommended

The food was really delicious, decent portion and the quality of the food was impressive. The seating allocation and food ordering felt a bit impersonal and rushed. You are taken to a seating area and then given a menu with a bar code to order your own food online. This may be an issue for some visitors and may put them off from using the restaurant, as some prefer to speak to people to know what they are ordering or ask for specifications on there food. The food and drinks arrived quickly and we're fresh and hot. We initially thought it was overpriced, looking at the menu, but the food exceeded our expectation and we felt it was worth the cost. Would certainly recommend, it added to the joy of the whole visit.

Busy Sunday afternoon at the Zoo, but we were seated quickly, and once we ordered our food and drinks on the App, we were eating within 10 - 15 minutes. Food was pretty decent and was hot on arrival. Curry sauce is lovely, so I would go back even if it was just for that!

Expensive for some budget kibbeling. Didn't have green tea thought this was the uk??? Lol

They don't have allergy specific foods or a kitchen equipped to deal with allergies unfortunately. Lovely place though, food was good and staff were very welcoming and friendly

Food was good but we were there for an hour before our food and drinks were served. The service was very friendly, attentive and apologetic for the delay. The restaurant has crayons and pictures for kids but it wasn't enough to keep then entertained for the full hour before the food arrived. I would go back, but only if the wait was significantly shorter and on a sunny day I'd probably opt to take a picnic / eat outside instead.

Very expensive Nearly 70pounds for three fish and chips and a salad 🥗

My daughter was given gluten here in spite of me notifying them she had coeliac disease and checking the details of their gluten free options and the allergen folder for any issues. Definitely do not go here if you have a gluten allergy. Food was also overpriced and mediocre.

Great place to visit when at the zoo

Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience at the Gannet Fish Bar. The buttermilk chicken burger lacked flavor, and the fish and chips were underwhelming. Additionally, the draft soda was flat and lacked carbonation, which detracted from the dining experience. While I was hoping for a more enjoyable meal, I can attest that the fries were plentiful. Despite my negative experience, I hope that the restaurant will take steps to improve the quality of their dishes and drinks.

Overall it is a nice fish restaurant but nothing outstanding. The fish was cooked well, bit the batter could have been seasoned a bit more. The chips were cut thick and fried well. The staff is friendly. The main idea is that you order and pay by scanning a QR code, although it seems that they are able to accommodate service without using the QR code.

I visited today, and was disappointed, fish was tough, and chips tasted like they had been reheated, so for the £15ish price tag was not worth it one bit. Only plus was the actual Zoo.

Food is shockingly bad for the price and the service is terrible, didn't even realise they forgot things from our order, TWICE! Not worth the money or time. Chips undercooked and fish was a bit too feel sick after.

First time visiting and was really happy with experience. It was not busy at the time. The place looks new, so decor is modern. You order food from app which is fine for me, others maybe prefer waiter. Food and drinks came quickly and portions were good size for the price. As it's the zoo it is kid and baby friendly

Ordered 2 fish and chips and 2 drinks. Drinks arrived quickly, food order took 40min. Several tables arriving after us received food (including fish and chips) before we did. When asking, we were served within 5 minutes. Loads of discussion happening at the kitchen bay, so probably confusion? Sadly fish and chips were both rather soft with no crispness found. Food was expensive (£13.75 per portion and no peas) but hopefully it helped the zoo in the end. Next time we’ll go somewhere else.

Excellent fish and chip for a restaurant on site at the zoo. I usually find theres nothing decent to eat at things like this but this was really worthwhile.

I'm leaving a review mainly to note that this restaurant at Edinburgh Zoo has gluten-free fish and chips! Their menu outside doesn't specify that, so it was a pleasant surprise when ordering. I have a food intolerance rather than coeliac, so did not inquire about separate fryers and can't speak to cross-contamination risk. The food is a bit expensive and not exceptional for what it is, but for a hot lunch at the zoo after trekking up and down the hill, it's great, and the staff are lovely.

Was in here with the wife, we ordered a take out, all we ordered was 2 x chips, 2x buttered rolls (that are not buttered) and 2x Fanta. Order placed at 12.39, order handed to us at 13.21, a 42 minute wait. That is far from acceptable. Vanessa your manager, her terrible customer service and excuses held no weight with me. Shocking display from this place, would not recommend and will not be back. Disgusting performance from so called professionals.

I visited here recently with my husband and granddaughter. Very lovely interior of the restaurant, found the QR code system a bit confusing but had a very lovely waitress named Talia who was very attentive and helped explain how to use it and was helpful with my granddaughter when she was getting a bit restless and provided us with colouring in pictures and crayons. The Cullen skink was very good and I asked her to pass on my appreciation to the chef. A little bit expensive but I would recommend if visiting the zoo

You place your order with a QR code and pay online which I found to be slow. Prices are expensive. Things like bread bun or cheese with your chips are £1.50 extra each. £2 for a can, high priced for what you get. The fish was well prepared, fresh, perfectly cooked with a very good quality crunchy batter. Tartar sauce was lovely.

I'm a member of the Zoo so I go a lot and this restaurant is probably the best there has been at the zoo in terms of the actual physical place. Warm and clean and modern. There has never been a very good restaurant here, but it is a Zoo after all. You order via QR code and pay online. Which honestly is a bit of chore when your toddler is going nuts and wants your phone when he sees you on it. I love tech, but not when it makes things less easy for me. "Fish and chips and a kids fish and chips please" is a heck of a lot easier than navigating your order and paying on a website. The food was ok. The piece of fish with your fish and chips is laughably small given they charge £12 for adult fish and chips. Also things like peas or chippy sauce are extra. You literally get a piece of fish, chips and tartare sauce. £2 for a can of soft drink. So yeah, really expensive for what you get. It was cooked well I suppose. All in all if you must eat at the Zoo (which you might do as it's a trek up to Corstorphine for other restaurants) then this is fine.

Orders are placed via an app which was a little slow and clunky for me when I was ordering. There is a limited menu however there is another restaurant and cafe on site. The prices are also a little high. The chips are ok. I ordered chips and cheese and the cheese comes in a small bowl on the side not melted into the chips. The chips also cool very quickly. The hot drinks we ordered took quite a while to arrive and we were half way through our food before they did and the restaurant wasn't busy.

Can not recomend enough simply stunning food me and my partner came in for lunch staff prompt and attentive the food was fantastic fish & chips amazing also the salmon fish cakes & the portions are very genrous £30 for two meals and 2 drinks but well worth it !!!!

Friendly environment and experience from the staff. Great customer service. Haddock and chips was beautifully battered and the chips were cooked nicely and not soggy
