We arrived Saturday evening, It's a lovely bar, full of character and cosy spots.
What was odd though and off-putting was that when we arrived there were only one of two other people and the staff had X factor playing on all TV's with sound on.
The only people we saw watching it was the staff behind the bar and it was really distracting and ruined the atmosphere. It was odd and a real shame as we would have stayed there longer. But again lovely bar, with lovely character and drinks.
We stayed for three nights at the Pennyghael Inn while we explored the Isle of Mull and visited Iona.
It was promoted as being open for food all day, but we discovered on arrival that breakfast had to be pre-ordered and was just tea and toast. There was no restaurant service before 5pm and no one available at the inn during the day. Our room was only serviced one day which was also disappointing
We were recommended to go to Simpson’s by the wonderful staff at Peterhead Prison Museum, who told us they make the best soup there. Cold, hungry and excited at this prospect, we headed to the tearoom. Sadly the soup was off the menu for me, as it was ham & lentil and I’m vegetarian. Disappointing. My cousin enjoyed the soup. Instead, I ordered a cheese and pineapple toastie. I was asked if I wanted the crisps, salad and coleslaw. I politely declined the coleslaw but relished the prospect of the crisps and salad. The toastie was delicious. Imagine my surprise when my salad consisted of a very few bits of chopped iceberg lettuce, ONE slice of cucumber and HALF a cherry tomato! Not only that - just THREE crisps were placed on my plate. I’ve always wondered what happened to that other half a cherry tomato …….
Superb afternoon tea
Had a lovely walk around the stunning garden and we enjoyed our delicious sandwiches and selections of sweet delicatessen. Our granddaughter enjoyed her selection of vegan sandwiches and sweets .
Great to see this traditional village pub come back to life. Quiz in the bar last night which looked like great fun, often has live music, lovely food at really reasonable prices. Will be going back again.
My husband and I stopped by here for lunch. The train ticket we had purchased had taken us to Tweedbank, but we quickly reboarded after realizing there were many more options to be had in Galashiels. Dave's was one of the places that popped up after a Google query. Despite having just made it past the lunch rush, the person at the counter was very cordial. We told he that we were celebrating our first anniversary/latermoon and gave us a baked treat and a recommendation for a nearby park whereby to enjoy it. I'd highly recommend Dave's if you are looking for a tasty yet affordable lunch spot.
We were hiking the Great Glen Way and stayed here for one night. The staff (especially Steve, a South African) were lovely and attentive. The food was very good, and the included breakfast was lovely. Unfortunately, the beds were the most uncomfortable thing I have ever experienced! Literally you could feel coils through the mattress! The room was very dated and needed updating, and the shower was particularly lame. As others have noted, the website seemed very deceiving compared to reality.
I have no idea how this place is able to operate, nor how it has positive reviews. The air is overpoweringly musty and the place has the dank atmosphere of a funeral home. I couldn't drink my tea as there was a reek of mold on the teacup I was given. The scones were awful, hidden by a thick layer of jam and cream that only served to make them somehow worse. Avoid like the plague - this place isn't quaint, it's just awful.
Lovely quaint coffee shop in the heart of Dunoon with a cracking breakfast. Service was friendly and fast. Lots on the menu, including some tasty looking homemade cakes!
Excellent service. Ordered 2 chicken mystique baguettes with salad and they were ready for me to pick up. Delicious. We order this every time we meet for coffee.
Came here for Mothers Day with the Wife and Kids and wow! Proper pub grub done so well!! Even though it was Mothers Day they had a full menu with specials including lamb chops with roast trimmings that were cooked to perfection! If you want exceptional food at realistic prices then look no further!
